Mail won't send and mail disappears

When I receive emails they sometimes disappear before I can open them. Not all of them, just some. This happens most obviously when I use my iPhone to access mail. Now, sometimes when I write an email it disappears when I hit "send". When they disappear they're gone. Not in the trash, not in the junk. What's going on?

Rudegar
I probably phrased my question wrong.....I just meant I use imap verses pop.
When I go into SMTP settings, it has "optional" password, which is supposed to solve the issue
with not being able to send emails, but no matter how many times I enter it and save the settings, it's gone when I go back in (because the emails still won't send).
And other ideas?

  • Mail won't send, and Outbox doesn't appear

About three days ago my mail stopped sending. When I compose mail everything goes as usual and no alert box pops up when I hit send. However, my mail isn't sending and the outbox isn't showing up to tell me the mail is still pending. I haven't found this problem on any other discussion forums. Is it a .me issue? If I use spotlight it will find unsent messages and says they are in the outbox, but there is no outbox in Mail. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Problem fixed itself inexplicably. Go figure.

Hi there I updated my iPhone 4 to new platform iOS 7 and can't sent emails I get error message cant connect to server . I deleted all email accounts and re added them the same thing is happening I am receiving emails but can't send them. I tried to upload to Instagram and although I am logged in I can't upload anything I am getting upload failed.  I have deleted app and re installed this also to no joy. Please help iOS 7 is a pain.

Oddly, the test email sent from my Gmail account on my iPad has just appeared (after a five minute or so delay).
The email however, is still not inside the sent folder - there's still no record of it having been sent.
Problem persists in full for iCloud - nothing sending from iPad and being received by the recipient.

  • Phone won't send texts

For some reason, my phone will periodically not send text messages, and the problem won't correct itself until I either reboot it, or I turn on airplane mode, then turn it off. I receive a message that the text message won't send, and it gives me an option to retry. After several retry attempts, I give up and reboot or cycle airplane mode. I've seen some notes across the web about it maybe being a SIM card issue, or potentially a firmware issue. I'm hesitant to restoring the phone to factory, as there are a number of files, apps, and settings I'd have to restore. Any thoughts from the community?

Have you tried to power off, pull the SIM card then re-seat the sim card?

  • My iPhone 5c won't send iMessages, snapchats, email from the Mail app, and it won't load YouTube. Other internet apps like Pandora and Instagram work fine though. Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

A couple days ago I first noticed the problem when snapchats would appear on my lock screen but when I opened the app I kept getting the error message that the app was not able to refresh my story. Then the next day I was no longer able to send iMessages, they wouldn't go through and would only reach the second party when I sent them as text messages. Also, YouTube won't load and Mail won't send or receive email. I've already tried restarting my phone but there was no change. At first I thought my network connection was the problem but Instagram, Safari, Vine and Pandora all work perfectly. Any suggestions?

Try this procedure to be sure of a proper restart.
Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)
I would also try: Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

  • Email seems to be sent, but it doesn't arrive. No 'unable to send' message, sent items and draft folders are empty. The mail disappears.

Email seems to be sent, but it doesn't arrive. No 'unable to send' message, sent items and draft folders are empty. The mail disappears. I tried to fully turn off the iPad and have it restart. But it doesn't go off. I keep seeing the small white 'turning wheel' untill the battery is gone. After that, it works again (and so does the e-mail). This happens about every week. What can I do?

*there's no reason to be paranoid*
    Says Mulder .
Anyway, as I mentioned, I don't use any sync-able email, just a very plain-jane POP email provider. iSync reports no devices and has nothing in its log, which matches my never having installed anything in need of syncing.
The thing is, if Mail says its sending something when nothing was ever sent, that's a largish bug whether it is actually sending something or isn't, and there isn't really enough info here to know which of those are the case. Maybe Mail just displays "Sending" because an attempt to do something reasonable is timing out, maybe it does an innocuous and normal POP thing using very confusing nomenclature, or maybe it's really trying to send something which has a wrong flag or something. There isn't really enough info to know what is going on, so I was hoping someone could identify the symptoms.

  • I'm using ipad2 with ios5. My outbox won't send mail. I guess i need an outgoing server and can't find it anywhere.

I'm using ipad2 with ios5. My outbox won't send mail. I guess i need an outgoing server and can't find it anywhere. Any suggestions on how to get it to send. I have tried everything, rebooting, ensuring passwords are correct, etc.

My problem is i don't have an outgoing server spot on my menu.  These are my selections. After getting to the menu that where i enter my password for hotmail, i have the following menu choices:  Email, then server (bay-m.hotmail.com, then domain (empty), then username, then password, thendescription, then Use SSL, then S/MIME
I don't see or can find an outgoing server choice. My daughter has an ipad2 using Ios4 and she has all the choices that are illustrated on. All the help sites. I only have the ones listed above.

  • I'm unable to send and receive email through Apple Mail 4.  I've checked my settings on Preferences, and my password to Gmail is up to date for syncing with IMAP, but it still won't connect.  Suggestions?

I'm unable to send and receive email through Apple Mail 4.  I've checked my settings on Preferences, and my password to Gmail is up to date for syncing with IMAP, but it still won't connect.  Suggestions?

I think it's trying to open it in a gMail eMail & is losing your gMail password that it needs log into gMail, but not 100% positive.
Have you tried Right clicking or Control+click on the eMail link & choose Copy? Works on some, not others.

Who is your eMail provider, the part after the @ sign?
In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the message?
Then click the Show Details button & Check again.

  • I recently updated to Mavericks and now all my e-mail accounts won't send

I recently updated to Mavericks and now all my e-mail accounts won't send. They all receive ok but when I send I get a message "sender address rejected by server" and " Authentification required" The passwords are still intact

Check the Mail settings for your account, especially the SMTP (outgoing) address, type of authentication, and entry of the proper email username and password. You can do this when you select the account then under the outgoing mail server use the dropdown menu to select the Edit option. Select your outgoing configuration in the list. Check the settings below, then click on the Advanced tab and check those settings.
If all is OK, then I suggest your reinstall Mavericks:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it isthree times faster than wireless.
