Mail won't send but Connection Doctor says smtp account OK.

Mail won't send but Connection Doctor says smtp account OK.
I can receive mail but can't send it from Mail 3.5. Same problem on a wired G5 and on a wi-fi MacBook (using the same account), so not hardware related. Worked fine 'till today - I didn't change anything in between times. Incoming mail no problem. Tried mail rebuild, keychain first aid, deleting the account, repair disk permission - doesn't help.
Mail's connection doctor says "smpt.xxxxxx - connection to server succeeded, no login required."
Anybody any ideas? Thanks, N

Been having the same problem for a few weeks now. This has been working just fine, and all of a sudden - nothing. The update to 10.5.6 didn't do anything to fix this either.
I've spent numerous hours on the phone with the Apple support. Seeing as the two other accounts that I have configured work with no problem, they say that this is a problem with the provider which is also the ISP. I then called the support line for the ISP and informed them of this and they say that it's a problem with the software.
Interestingly, if I send a message to somone with the same ISP, the message will go. But I can't send a message outside of the provider. Does anyone else have this problem?
Also, from another forum, they suggested rebuilding the LaunchServices database. The Apple support didn't see what that would do. But I tried it anyway and the problem still exists.
Another intesting thing is certificates. It's only happened twice, but I've received the message saying that Mail can't verify the certificate XXXXX which validates the identity of the smtp. Anyone else get this? I thought perhaps I could delete the certificate and it would magically reappear. But when I go into KeyChain, the certificate is listed only under System Root and I can't delete it.
ideas?

Mail won't send without Connection Doctor having to be launched. After running Connection Doctor, it will send, so settings all must be ok. But 15 minutes later, I need to "check again" to send mail. I read previous posts on this from a few years ago, but my laptop is running Lion.

Try just watching the "Activity" window to learn what is happening to your mail - I have found it to be most enlightening.

  • Can't send mail but connection doctor says server is ok

I changed my MS Exchange username from [email protected] to [email protected] but my email address remains [email protected] So I changed my account settings (I have the exchange account set up as IMAP. I can receive messages but I cannot send. I have checked the settings a thousand times, they are correct. The funny thing is the connection doctor says my outgoing mail server connection is good "Connection and login to server succeeded", but when I try to send send a mail I get "Unable to send mail, check x y z" I don't remember the error exactly because now the send button is just grayed out when I try to send from that account.

I installed Eudora and imported my mail settings from Apple Mail. I did NO entry of the server settings, it came directly from Apple Mail. I can send from Eudora but I cannot send from Apple Mail. Go figure.

  • Email intermittently says it can't connect to the server but connection doctor says I'm connected

I have both my Yahoo and work email accounts on  my MacBook Pro. Intermittently, my work email refuses to send, giving me the error message that it can't connect to the server. Connection doctor says work email is connected to the internet, and some emails will go while others won't. Have checked server settings agains my Iphone, and they are identical. No problem emailing from the phone. Help?

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Quit and relaunch Mail, and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Mail won't send, but only from my apartment/airport

It seems as if it has been for the last two weeks or so that anytime I attempt to send emails through Mail, that they won't send. But if I go to the coffee shop, or a friends apartment it sends with no issue.
Is it a possibility I accidentally messed up some security/privacy setting in either Mail or with my Airport?
macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

not sure if this is the answer but I had a similar problem recently - my ISP changed required settings so my outbound mail had to be something like "SMTP.isp.com" instead of "smtp.gmail.com"
It was a change they made over a weekend so I didn't know about it -- so my first suggestion would be to check with your ISP.
    Hope this helps.

  • E-mail won't send, but can't find it

I replied to an e-mail and when I did so, I must have touched the original sender's email address, because when I tried to send it, I got the message:
    Cannot send mail
The sender address "[email protected]" was rejected by the server.
Of course it was, because I'm the sender, not that address that the dialogue box is saying.
The problem is, I can't find that message so I can delete it. As a result, every time the iPhone checks mail, I get the above message.
I thought it would be in the iPhone "outbox," but I don't see an Outbox in the list of mailboxes--I only see an inbox, drafts (which is empty), sent, trash, deleted messages, and "saved forever" (a mailbox I created on the Mac.
Anyone have any ideas where this email is, and I how I can get rid of it?
    Thanks.

  • Mail won't send emailwhile connected to Ethernet, only over wifi

    Here it goes.
I have an iMac 21.5-inch, Mid 2011, with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4. The issue I have is that when I try to send an email, using Mail, from my company's account it will not do so while the computer is connected to Ethernet.
If I go to network settings and disable that option, connecting trough Wi-Fi, it sends the emails like a charm.
Has anyone experienced something like this?

If you're on the company network, you should ask the network administrator for help.

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.

Can you enlighten me what can I do I need to use my e-mail program urgently !!!
    Thanks for your help

I'm not sure what "IPS wireless" is, but unless you have an Apple Wi-Fi base station (such as a Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme, or AirPort Express), AirPort Utility won't see anything.
You might try defining a new SMTP server to see if that will work any better.

  • Mail won't send mail when in wireless mode but works fine when wired

Ok, this happens all the time. I have several pop email accounts, all of which work fine when I am hooked in to an ethernet cable, but Apple Mail won't send any of my outgoing mail form any of my accounts when i'm am working wirelessly.
I always get a message like:
Cannot send message using server smtp.name.net
I try to switch servers and I cycle through all of them, getting them same message, followed by things like:
The server response was: 5.1.2 Bad or missing RCPT domain k39sm5757680wah
    Any advice.

Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
You may use “network locations” to more easily switch between network settings if necessary, as described here:
Using network locations in Mac OS X

  • My mail won't send...

    Hi,
My mail won't send on my laptop.  There is spinning next to "Send" but the message remains in the outbox.
I deleted and readded all email accounts.  This did not solve the problem.
I started a chat with Apple Express support and they said that Lion doesn't support Apple mail so they couldn't help.
    I can send via webmail.
    I can receive mail.
One error message I receive after it has tried to send the message for awhile is:
Connections to the server “mail.smtp.me” on the default ports timed out.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent.
My password and username are correct; however, the following error message appears in the Connection Doctor window:
Trying to log in to this SMTP account failed.  Verify that the username and password are correct.
Does anyone have a real fix for this issue-it doesn't happen all the time, but has been happening every day for the past week and I need a reliable program to send mail.
    Thanks.
    lsb

    Becky,
Check your smtp server and check if your password is added. After ungrading Mail might have lost the password.
