Mail Won't Send with New WiFi

Just switched internet providers. Internet and incoming mail work fine, but outgoing messages won't send. My outgoing mail server is my sever at work. How do I get my messages to send?

You should post this to the Mail forum under Mac OSX 10.6.
There are literally dozens of things that need to be done to fix this, up to and including your new internet provider blocks SMTP mail servers.

I can receive all e-mails from my office server (microsoft exchange), but I can only send e-mails when wifi is turned off. The error message says that the connection to the cwmx.com server failed. Can you help? Thanks.

Does your office email account have an authenticated SMTP server?
If not, you will have problems sending messages with this account when not connected to your company's network. Internet Service Providers impose restrictions on using an SMTP server that is outside of their network on Port 25 which is the default port for SMTP servers. Most ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server that is outside of their network on Port 25 but some block its use regardless. These restrictions are in place as part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain but as with just about anything else, it is usually the few that take advantage of a situation for not above board deeds that spoil it for everyone else that need to use it for legitimate reasons.
You can try using 587 for the SMTP server port but having an authenticated SMTP server is the ticket. I access a .Mac account and a business POP account with my iPhone. Both have authenticated SMTP servers and I haven't had any trouble sending messages with either account regardless how or where I'm connected - via various Wi-Fi networks or EDGE.

  • Yahoo mail won't send when using wifi; works otherwise?

iPhone 5s with latest OS updates.
    Steps to reproduce problem:
    1. Set up Yahoo mail in iPhone mail client
    2. Connect to local wifi using Centurylink in my case but it happens on other networks also.
    3. Send an email.
Email seems to get stuck going out and won't leave. The app sort of hangs and if you're lucky, you'll see the email in the outbox unsent. Sometimes you won't find it. It's never in the sent folder either.
However, if you turn off wifi, it sends fine.
What's going on here? Is it Yahoo or iPhone?

My week-old 3GS is doing a very similar thing with my Yahoo, if not the exact same thing. I'll start a new thread in case it's different.

  • Mail won't send with my user account

My main user account recently started having the problem of not sending email (I can, however, receive). When logged as Admin, I can send. Can this be resolved by purging or deleting a preference file?
(We have tried Disk Utility, setting up new user accounts in Mail.app, etc., to no avail).
    Suggestions appreciated!

Hi and welcome to the Forums.
If you have not already been through it, please review the Wi-Fi Checklist thread which is "stickied" to the top of this board.  Hopefully something there will resolve your connection issue.

  • TS3276 Mac Mail won't send emails with signatures

My Mac Mail won't send emails with signatures. I get the "whoosh" sound and they show in sent mail, but the recipient doesn't receive them until I take off the signature and resend the email. Without a signature, it is received. It never used to be a problem, but started this past month. Please advise!

Did Earthlink have you try using their authenticated SMTP server?
If not, try changing Earthlink's SMTP server settings to the following:
    SMTP Server: smtpauth.earthlink.net
Server Port: 25 or 587. Assuming Earthlink is your ISP, 25 should work.
Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Off or not selected.
Authentication Type: MD5 Challenge-Response. Not sure if this authentication type is available with 10.2 and if not, select Password.
User Name: Your entire Earthlink email address.
Password: The password for your Earthlink email account - the same password used to check the incoming mail server for new messages.

  • Apple Mail won't send invitations when initially closed

I just started using iCal to send invitations for appointments through Apple Mail. When Apple Mail is opened already when I create the appointment and click Send in iCal, it works fine. The mail is sent and delivered to the appropriate address.
But if Apple Mail is closed initially, the application starts and the invitation is queued up in the Outbox but is never sent. I can manually open up each invitation in Mail and send them individually, but why is the behavior different? Whether Mail is opened or closed when I send an invitation, it ought to deliver the invitation automatically. By not being sent, I may not realize the invitation hasn't been delivered, making the process very error-prone. Is there a way to guarantee the invitation actually gets sent without having to check the Outbox every time?
Is this an iCal bug or an Apple Mail bug? I saw no settings in Apple Mail for sending messages at shutdown or any other setting like this. Instead, these invitations may end up being buried in my Outbox for a very long time before I notice and by then, it may be too late.

The most recent OS is currently OS 10.8.3.  Your system profile confirms you are still using Mac OS X (10.7.5).  If this is incorrect, please correct your profile so that you will get the correct troubleshooting suggestions/solutions.
Also, post in the OS/Mail forum of whichever OS is currently installed on your MBP.  It's where the OS/Mail expert helpers hang out at.

Mail won't send but Connection Doctor says smtp account OK.
I can receive mail but can't send it from Mail 3.5. Same problem on a wired G5 and on a wi-fi MacBook (using the same account), so not hardware related. Worked fine 'till today - I didn't change anything in between times. Incoming mail no problem. Tried mail rebuild, keychain first aid, deleting the account, repair disk permission - doesn't help.
Mail's connection doctor says "smpt.xxxxxx - connection to server succeeded, no login required."
    Anybody any ideas? Thanks, N

Been having the same problem for a few weeks now. This has been working just fine, and all of a sudden - nothing. The update to 10.5.6 didn't do anything to fix this either.
I've spent numerous hours on the phone with the Apple support. Seeing as the two other accounts that I have configured work with no problem, they say that this is a problem with the provider which is also the ISP. I then called the support line for the ISP and informed them of this and they say that it's a problem with the software.
Interestingly, if I send a message to somone with the same ISP, the message will go. But I can't send a message outside of the provider. Does anyone else have this problem?
Also, from another forum, they suggested rebuilding the LaunchServices database. The Apple support didn't see what that would do. But I tried it anyway and the problem still exists.
Another intesting thing is certificates. It's only happened twice, but I've received the message saying that Mail can't verify the certificate XXXXX which validates the identity of the smtp. Anyone else get this? I thought perhaps I could delete the certificate and it would magically reappear. But when I go into KeyChain, the certificate is listed only under System Root and I can't delete it.
    ideas?

  • My mail won't send...

    Hi,
My mail won't send on my laptop.  There is spinning next to "Send" but the message remains in the outbox.
I deleted and readded all email accounts.  This did not solve the problem.
I started a chat with Apple Express support and they said that Lion doesn't support Apple mail so they couldn't help.
    I can send via webmail.
    I can receive mail.
One error message I receive after it has tried to send the message for awhile is:
Connections to the server “mail.smtp.me” on the default ports timed out.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent.
My password and username are correct; however, the following error message appears in the Connection Doctor window:
Trying to log in to this SMTP account failed.  Verify that the username and password are correct.
Does anyone have a real fix for this issue-it doesn't happen all the time, but has been happening every day for the past week and I need a reliable program to send mail.
    Thanks.
    lsb

    Becky,
Check your smtp server and check if your password is added. After ungrading Mail might have lost the password.

  • Mail won't send to Yahoo Japan

When I try to email my boyfriends PC, Apple mail will not send the message. It tells me to ensure I have entered the address in correctly, which it is, but it will never send the email.
His PC address ends with @yahoo.ne.jp
but I can email his phone address, which is @d8.dion.ne.jp
Anyone know why Apple mail won't send to yahoo?

For some reason, Mail prevents sending to multiple
addresses (if they're in a group) if you've indicated
in "preferences" (under "composing") that you do not
want addressees' names to be shown in the "to" field.
The only way to send to a group is to allow the names
    to be shown.
I, and others, have mentioned this ever since Mail
arrived. Apple has not yet fixed the
    bug.
This royally bites! I had this same problem before, and was told that by upgrading to Mail 2, (Tiger), it would fix this!
I sure as heck don't want all the names listed, that is very unprofessional.
Will it work if the addresses are "shown", but are in the BCC window?
