Mail won't set up properly in Lion

I have a network solutions account and I am unable to set it up in Mail. When I click "Get Mail", it shows the status bar receiving messages, but then nothing ever appears. Any thoughts?

the difference between POP and IMAP. --i just went thru & am still going thru finding a successful solution to get mail on each mac.  first had my imac g4 working fine -mostly--with pop accounts.  when i added the macpro and also a netbook advised that i would need to transfer to imap--as that is set up for handling more than one computer.
OK  so now i got the router connected, but mails not working, told by cable comp. the modem is not upto date, so i need to eliminate the one i purchased, & lease theirs;  still not working,  I find lots frustrating!
imap does keep all the mail on the server which i was told the pop account does not & i figure is a good thing. specially as i can't consistenly get it. [when u are in ur mail parogram  click the window box and check activity, it seems to constantly be doing something.  most times my mail will not let my mac shut down.]
recently a window appears that said the router does not suport lion! hair pulling!
& hooked up a reliable terabyte hard drive to timemachine this mess, and apparently killed some part of it,  said i had file vault on one of the accounts,  which i do not,
this did start with an answer but now it is many questions & a recommendation--do not get lion!  make sure next big cat is a real supreme beast!  watch the responses & be sure it doesn't leave messes around & wait till the first upgrade & definitely learn what is & is not compatible!

993 is the wrong port, choose 'Use Default Ports" as shown below

  • When I tap my mail, I don't see anything even though all my mail accounts are set up properly, My mail is blank how can I re set it?

After I shut down my mail yesterday, when I tap back on, it is completely blank, nothing.  I have check all my e mail accounts and they are all up and running properly, they are installed properly in settings and my wifi is working fine. But there is nothing in my mail.  I have updated my I pad on I tunes but that did nothing.  Anyone have any idea what I could do?   My carrier is Bell 3G, but that appears to work too.   Safari works fine.

Have you tried deleting the accounts and re-creating them?

  • Mail won't set up IMAP account

    Hello,
When setting up my Gmail account, I don't have the option to set it up manually as an IMAP account. After I enter my name, email and password in the first dialogue box, I click "continue" and it automatically sets it up as a POP account. I understand there's supposed to be a "automatically set up this account" checkbox but I'm not seeing one (there's only a "continue" button). I've already enabled IMAP on my Gmail account settings. I also trashed the Mail prefs file (com.apple.mail) and restarted my computer. No success.
I'd very much appreciate any advice, tips, etc.. Thanks very much in advance.
    - Candice

    Candice,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
In my experience you should have the opportunity to change the POP type setting to IMAP, but haven't tried the Gmail lately. However, if you hold down the Option key while clicking on the + sign to add an account, you will go into manual mode.

My mail account is set up properly, I can connect to the Internet, but I cannot get mail from the Mail app on my iPad.

    Hello echo1946
Start with the first article to troubleshoot the issue of not getting mail on your iPad. When you get online using safari, check to see if you can log into webmail. Also keep in mind, depending on the account that mail sometimes might not come in if it is a POP account as it may have already been download elsewhere.

  • Some ,mail messages won't load after migrating to Lion

I've migrated Mail from Snow Leopard to Lion on a new computer but from time to time some messages won't load. It's a real pain because I only dicover it when I go to read a message I want to read. Anyone have any ideas?

Mail, the application, should not cannot contain any message data assets. The Mail application must sit in the Applications folder, and be usable to every User Account on the Mac, and not just yours (understand you might be the only user, but making a point).
Mail, the folder of data for just your emails, should properly be at Home/Library/Mail.
Let me ask again -- in the Applications folder is there an Icon for Mail, and is it the Icon of a postage stamp, or is it perhaps the Icon of a folder?
However, let me note, that now that I have booted back into Snow Leopard, and used Get Info on the Mail Icon in the Applications folder, it is reported to be 77.5 MB! Looking at it from other boot volume (Leopard) does not see all the elements of its "package" apparently. My apologies.
Now it is time for a different test -- Create a New User Account, and as that New User launch Mail and try setting up one new email account - if POP select to leave messages on the server. See the following if not familiar with adding a new user account:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
The reason for doing this is to test the Mail app itself, and not to permanently switch to a new user account. Tell me if the behavior continues in that New User Account with Mail?

  • How do I keep my email password from remaining in Preferences? I want to enter it every time I get my mail. I upgraded to OS M Lion but it won't let me delete it from preferences. It's worked prior to using M. Lion. Any suggestions? Thanks!! Jen

How do I keep my email password from remaining in Preferences? I want to enter it every time I get my mail. I upgraded to OS M Lion but it won't let me delete it from preferences (the password from Account Info). Once you enter the password, it keeps it permanently. i do not want that.  It's worked prior to using M. Lion. Any suggestions? Also, The other pressing issue i have is, I DO NOT want ANY mail showing in my inboxes when Mail starts UNTIL i enter that password for each account. Instead of creating different user accounts for the MacBook, it's just easier this way. Or is it? If this is a permanent thing, then I may switch back to Lion. I guess I shoud've waited until the kinks were out before installing (**** Mac-head!)
Thank you all kindly for any suggestions & your time
    Regards,
    JC

I DO NOT want ANY mail showing in my inboxes when Mail starts UNTIL i enter that password for each account.
That is simply not possible with Mail, and never has been.  Anyone who uses your account can see all messages stored in Mail.  The only true solution is to not let other people use your account.  Let other people use the guest account, or if you share the machine with someone else, set up a separate user account for that person.  This will also solve the problem of remembering the password.  It will become a non-issue for Mail to remember your password if nobody else has access to your account.

  • Just set up icloud and now mail won't...

I just set up icloud on my mac and now my mail won't recognize my password. Formerly, on mobileme i had the main computer which was pre-intel so now I'm switching to my intel mac. Everything is fine on cloud, all the data is there, but on my computers (intel computer and also pre-intel) when I try to check my mail it keeps saying that it doesn't recognize the password. I get mail fine on my iphone, and when I log into icloud but not on my computers (pre-intel or intel).

It's because you are using Leopard.  You will need to either upgrade your Mac to Snow Leopard then Lion or manually set up mail on your Mac in Mac Mail.  http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmail.html is a link to a tutorial online on how to set up your mail manually on your Mac.  MobileMe is offering a free upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard.  The link is me.com/snow-leopard.  You can redeem a free disc to get your Mac to Snow Leopard, you will have to pay for the upgrade to Lion yourself though.

I have an old 1st gen express. Airport utilities 6.3 won't set it up. How do I set it up in Mountain lion?

I have an old 1st gen express
Please check on the side of the Express and locate the Model No.
A 1st Gen AirPort Express is Model No A1264.
AirPort Utility 6.3 will definitely set up a 1st Gen AirPort Express.
    Is this what you have?

  • TS3276 I just downloaded the OS X Lion mountain and Mail won't open.  I get an error message everytime I try to open the app.How can I fix that?

I just downloaded the OS X Lion mountain and Mail won't open.  I get an error message everytime I try to open the app.How can I fix that?

I-Photo won't open even though I have upgraded to OS X Yosemite and downloaded the I-Photo upgrader.
But have you run the the iPhoto Library upgrader? It is installed in Applications > Utilities. Launch it and direct it to your iPhoto library.
Which version of iPhoto did you upgrade from?
The upgrader is only necessary, if you have been  running iPhoto7.1.2 or earlier.

  • Mail won't launch since Lion upgrade

I've just upgraded to Lion and now Mail won't launch.  It appears in the title bar but doesn't launch, it also won't quit.  Any ideas?  I'm worried about losing all my mail.

I had the same problem, and tried recommendations that were posted on other threads. It finally occurred to me that I should try signing out and back in on the Mobile Me system preference and it worked. Hope this helps...

  • Lion mail won't send

My lion mail won't send. It just spins it's little spinner to infinitum. What can I do? (lion upgrade on imac).

Select Window ▹ Connection Doctor from the Mail menu bar. You should see a green dot next to each of the mail servers you've defined. Is that what you see? If not, click the Show Details button. A drawer opens at the bottom of the window. If there's text in that drawer, please post it. If not, click Check Again and post the text that appears. Edit out any personal information before posting.

  • Mail won't open (Lion ate my mail redux)

Read through lengthy thread on the subject of lost mail with Lion upgrade, but didn't see a solution that would work since they all seemed to suggest removing envelope (or other) files. I just upgraded to Lion a short while ago and all seems okay, save that Mail won't open—it starts to optimize the database, then quits a fw moments later. When I go into the Library/Mail folder all I find is another folder called Account Types which is empty.
I hope someone can offer a suggestion. THANKS
Below is the console readout for the issue. I wonder, in reading the line "initialized before the Library was ready!" means that it is still in a [hidden] process of optimizing the Mail database. Should I just hang tight for now?

Launch Activity Monitor (in /Applications/Utilities folder), find the Mail process, and force quit it from there. If this is NOT an admin-privileged account, then log out, log back in to an admin-privileged account, run Disk Utility Verify Disk. IF problems are reported, reboot from installer DVD and run Disk Utility Repair Disk from the installer DVD. Launch it from Utilities menubar item once the menubar is visible. If you are now running booted off the installer DVD, when repair disk is complete reboot normally and log back in to admin account and download 10.6.2 combo update from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL959 and reapply it. Then run software update from the  menubar item. Let us know if that works or not.

  • Safari stops working.  Mail won't work with Safari running.  Now iTunes can't find my phone.  If I restart and do one thing at a time it helps but still not reliable.  All software on my iMac is up to date.

I have a new iMac and iPhone 4.0.  All software is up to date and I have installed the free beta version of Mountain Lion which let me use iChat on my computer.  Safari intermittently stops working.  Mail won't access my mailboxes if Safari is running.  Now iTunes won't find my iPhone when it's locked and in a dock charging.  If I restart I can do 1 thing at a time, but I can't have Safari running and use Mail.  I've emptied my cache, checked my passwords.  It's none of that.  By process of elimination, there is some kind of conflict between using multiple applications on the Internet at the same time.  Sometimes after I've gone to several Internet sites Safari will stop working properly even though all other applications have been "quit".

Oops. You installed the beta Mountain Lion on your main hard disk? Usually most people install it on a secondary or external hard drive. Your situation should actually be posted on the Developer web site for Moutnain Lion and not here. All I can suggest here is to run repair permissions and restart. Sorry.

  • Cannot get apple mail and gmail to sync properly

I use apple mail for my gmail account. the messages dont seem to sync properly - eg i try to empty the trash and they pop back in there. i changed the settings to what google say to use but now it is downloading 13000 messages. I loged onto my online account to try and delete them from there but i cant find them
    What can i do?

Not exactly sure why you cannot find them on the gmail server when logged directly into gmail unless it is due to the fact you set up the gmail preferences to make gmail act as a mail server which I think you have to do to use a mail client.
At any rate, check Mail.app's preferences, accounts, click the account in question, then the Advanced tab.  If you check the checkbox "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message" then the mail won't be saved on gmail's pop server.
