Mail won't show messages from my .Mac account

I have set up 5 accounts in Mail. Two of these accounts are .Mac mail accounts and the other 3 are verizon accounts. When I receive an email in any account, the Mail icon bounces on my desktop and makes its alert sound. I can check the 5 inboxes and retrieve messages from the verizon accounts, but not the .Mac accounts. The .Mac inboxes will tell me how many messages I have in those accounts, but I cannot read them in Mail. I have to do go Mac.com to read these messages! The Mac accounts are enabled. All of the accounts were set up before the new Mail came out and Mail worked fine until then, but I have not been able to read my messages in Mail from the .Mac accounts since the new version of Mail. Is this a common problem and is there something I can do to fix my inability to read these messages in Mail?

Let’s check whether the rules could have a bearing on this:
1. Quit Mail.
2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/.
3. Locate MessageRules.plist and move it to the Desktop. If there is a file called MessageRules.plist.backup, move it to the Desktop too. You may also see MessageSorting.plist files there; this is where Mail 1.x stored the rules, and they are no longer used by Mail 2.x, so just move them to the Trash if you see them.
4. Open Mail. As a result of removing the rules file, the junk filter will be disabled now. You may want to either tell Mail to go offline immediately after opening it, or shut down the Internet connection before opening Mail, to prevent it from downloading anything until the junk mail filter has been enabled again.
5. Go to Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail, enable junk filtering, and configure it however you wish.
6. Go online again if you went offline in step 4.
If the problem persists after doing this, then you know the rules have no bearing on it, and you may move the files on the Desktop back to the ~/Library/Mail/ folder, overwriting any files Mail may have created anew there (quit Mail first).
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Junk Mail folder refusing to show messages from a particular account

So, I have a weird problem with Leopard Mail (3.2) - when I click on the junk mail folder, 99% of the time it won't show messages from my Yahoo POP account. The only way I can get messages from this account to show is by expanding the junk mail folder, clicking on a different sub-account, then clicking on my Yahoo account. This will show the messages in its junk folder, and if I click on the combined junk folder they will show up inside it. This will work until I click away from junk - say, to my inbox - at which point the procedure will need to be repeated if I wish to see my Yahoo junk mail.
I've only noticed it very recently, but I'm not sure how long it's been going on. Unbelievably annoying. I deleted the junk folder, no luck. I toggled the account off/on - this seemed to work for a day, but the behaviour's back and I can't make this work again. I rebuilt the mailbox... Even deleted and added the account again, but it still did the same thing.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it just a bug in Leopard Mail? Something specifically with POP accounts, perhaps? (My 5 IMAP accounts seem fine). If anyone has any further suggestions I'd be really, really grateful.

Ok, so, something in way of an update: Normal behaviour appears to be restored after Mail detects a piece of junk mail and puts it in the junk folder for this account (manual marking of junk doesn't do the trick). Then it works ok until I quit Mail.

  • Mail won't retrieve messages from my primary Comcast account

Apple Mail, Version 2.1 (752/752.2), downloads emails from my yahoo.com and gmail.com accounts, but it has suddenly stopped downloading emails from my primary Comcast account to my G5 iMac. I get no error messages.
Trying to retrieve email in Apple Mail can sometimes cause the Comcast email server to classify all unread messages as read. If Mail is set to "remove copy from server right away after retrieving a message," then all of my new messages are deleted from the Comcast server before I ever see them, even though they have not been retrieved.
Curiously, the only emails that Mail can access from my primary Comcast account are those that have been automatically forwarded from my secondary Comcast accounts. (Just out of curiosity, I tried manually forwarding a message from my primary account to my primary account; it could not be retrieved by Mail.)
My wife and daughter, on the same hard-wired ethernet LAN, have no problem accessing their primary Comcast email accounts with Mail on their Macs (MacBook and G4 iMac). Our settings for Comcast accounts seem to be identical on all three computers.
Perhaps coincidentally, I also have Comcast Digital Voice VoIP telephone service, and this email problem started while Comcast was troubleshooting problems with my voicemail. I use separate cable modems for phone (Arris TM402P) and Internet (Motorola SB5100).
I've tried: 1) rebuilding all of the mailboxes in my Mail Inbox; 2) deleting all of my emails on the Comcast server and emptying the trash; 3) setting the outgoing SMTP mail server on all of my email accounts to Comcast; 4) repairing permissions and running maintenance scripts; 5) shutting down the computer overnight; 6) Comcast support -- they try, but then give up and say that they don't support Apple Mail.
    I'd appreciate any assistance.
    iMac G5 1.9GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1 GB RAM

This problem was apparently caused by one of two things: 1) trying to use Mail with an AIM.com IMAP account; or 2) corruption somewhere in my Rules and Mailboxes.
I had to rebuild my POP accounts from the ground up. First, I backed up Mail preferences and messages. After quitting Mail and deleting the preference file com.apple.mail.plist and the Mail folder from Users/Home/Library, I launched Mail and created new accounts and new rules.
Prior to this issue, I had been using Apple Mail for three years to retrieve POP mail from Comcast and other accounts. This was my first experience with IMAP.

I have an Exchange account set up and use MS Outlook at work.  I do receive my email via push on my Iphone 4s.  However, when I delete a message from my MS Outlook at work, it won't delete from my Iphone UNLESS I open up Mail.  Anyone else have this issue?
I did change the setting of pushing my delete items folder in the mail settings on my Iphone.  Still did nothing.

  • Mail won't retrieve messages from ISP

Please tell me this is my ISP's problem, not my iMac's! I have 2 email accounts, one with my ISP and another with a spam-filtering service. As of yesterday, Mail no longer retrieves messages sent to my ISP email address, although it does retrieve from the other account. I know I have messages, because I can log in to webmail and read them there--but what a pain. My ISP, a small local outfit, seems overwhelmed, and I can't get through to support--so I'm guessing this is their problem.
If not, any suggestions! Many thanks!

Anything in the Deleted Messages box?
First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    I'd get EasyFind...

  • Mail 8.2 Sending Messages from Wrong Email Account

This has been happening more often than not lately on the Mail 8.2 app. It's driving me crazy, and really messing up my business since I have a professional email (using Outlook) and a personal email (Gmail).
Both email accounts are setup on my Mac Mail. What has been happening is that when I write an email with my professional email (Outlook) and hit send everything seems fine and it will send (like it should!). It shows up in my sent messages in the Mac Mail app under my Outlook account and everything, great!... Oh, but the thing is, it doesn't really send from my Outlook account.
When I log into my Outlook account on my web browser, the email is not shown to have been sent. But, When I log into my Gmail account on the web... What?! There is the message in my Gmail sent folder! How??? It has my signature from my Outlook account and everything. To add to the strangeness, when I look at my Mail app on my iPhone, it says that the email was sent from my Gmail, and not my Outlook...
So, Mail on my Mac says sent from intended email account (Outlook), but in reality it somehow gets magically sent from my personal Gmail account... and shows up on the webpages and my iPhone as sent form Gmail... This doesn't happen every time. Just when Mail feels like it I guess, HA!
This is frustrating. Since it doesn't happen all the time, I never know if people are getting my emails, but I finally got the fluke to happen with a friend. Voila, in fact when this happens even though it's being sent in Mail though my Outlook account, my friend receives the email from my Gmail account with my Outlook signature...
What is going on? Is anyone else having this issue?
I need my personal and professional messages synced to my iPhone and Mac, or I would just say good riddance to the Mac Mail app.
I will just have to start sending my professional messages form the Outlook webpage until this is fixed. This is really unprofessional Apple. I never had this issue prior to Yosemite.
Hope this made since, it's the best I can make of it.
    Thanks!

From the Mail menu bar, select
              Mail ▹ Preferences...
The Mail preference dialog opens. Select the Composing tab from the row of icons at the top. From the menu labeled
              Send new messages from:
    choose
              Account of selected mailbox
Note that this setting may have no effect if you start a new message while a VIP or smart mailbox is selected in the mailbox list. Those are saved searches, not actual mailboxes.
If the problem remains, select the Accounts tab in the preference dialog, then select the affected account in the list on the left.
In the Account Information pane, select the correct server in the menu labeled
              Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
If there's only one server in the menu, select
              Edit SMTP Server List...
and add a new server with the correct settings. If you're not sure how to do that, try the Mail Settings Lookup.
Another possibility is that the wrong card in your address book is selected as yours. Select your card in the Contacts application. Then select

I deleted a Zimbra email account from Mail (Mail>preferences>followed steps for deleting the account), but Mail continues to download new messages from Zimbra. I ran mail connection doctor and the deleted account still appears with a green status indicator. This is the only evidence of the old account with the exception of the emails arriving in my Mail inbox. I would like to completely eliminate Mail's connection to the Zimbra account.
    Mail version 7.3
    OS X 10.9.5

Went to Preferences, clicked on the account in the left side menu, clicked the minus sign. Before deleting the account the computer toggled me to another window for managing Internet Accounts. I clicked the minus sign again for that same email account and the account no longer appears in my email account list.
Based on other posts about deleting an email account, I was expecting to see this prompt: "The account's setup information, mailboxes, messages, notes and to do's will be deleted permanently from your computer"
However, that prompt didn't appear. Instead I was directed to the Internet Accounts preferences pane as described above. While in Mail, if I go to preferences, the deleted account is not there and I do not have the option to send emails via the deleted account. The only functionality still enabled is the receipt of new messages.

I accidentally deleted documents from Pages on my iphone - and now they won't show up on my mac anymore either.  I must have saved them just on icloud and not on my mac, too.  is there anyway to recover these documents?

On a mac, when you save docs to icloud, a local copy is also saved.  It's saved at:
    ~/Library/Mobile Documents
Note that Library in the user's home folder is now hidden, so you'll have to set Finder to view hidden files.
The Mobile Documents folder has subfolder where copies of the doc/data files are stored.
If the file(s) are no longer there, then use your Time Machine backups to get copies back to the mac.

  • Mac Mail won't remove copy from server

My mail remains in the ISP's Inbox despite the proper setting in my Mac Mail program to remove copy from server immediately after downloading. Even after I close my mail program, the old mail will not be deleted. I must go to my Inbox via the Net and delete the mail with a global tag/delete.
This problem began 5 to 7 months ago. Before that the auto deletion worked fine, and it worked fine in older versions of OS X. Is this an ISP compatibility? A bug in the current Mac Mail release? A bug in Tiger?
I asked my ISP and his first reply said this is one of many bugs in Mac Mail and I should switch to Thunderbird. I'll look at that but I prefer to use Apple software.
After 4 years I know how seldom Apple debugs Mail and Safari. Does anyone know if an update of Mail is on Apple's schedule?
iMac and others   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Try changing the setting to After one day or When moved
from Inbox (and leave it at that), to see whether it’s just the Right > away setting that doesn’t work or that Mail fails to remove messages > from that server no matter what the settings.
    I'll do that.
BTW, have you actually tried using another mail
    client such as Thunderbird
to check whether the same happens there as well?
My ISP, who hosts a university and has a higher percentage of Mac users than most, recommended Thunderbird so I presume it does well here at Ntelos.net

  • "Mail" won't show my Yahoo mails...

    Hello,
I'm using three boxes, all Yahoo. Had a minor problem with one of them and the Yahoo people told me they had switched the account to another server to solve the problem (which was actually solved).
But since then, "Mail" won't show the incoming mail. The activity indicator shows "x" mails having been collected but they don't show either on he screen or next to the account name...
One exception: as I tried to cancel then re-create the faulty account, it does collect messages the first time it opens...but then afterwards nothing shows although mails are showed to have been collected.
The other two boxes I use with Yahoo are collected without any problem.
    Yahoo can't or won't help...
Anybody with an idea ??? Could the problem be linked with changing the server ? But then how is it hat mails are shown to have been collected by he activity counter even if they don't appear on he screen or next to he account name ?
Many thanks and greetings from southern France.

no one knew why i couldn't get my messages from the pop server at att/yahoo into my mail on my mac. there were no answered questions to the support topic why can i see mail activity....messages on the server, but not coming into the mail box? sending is fine, but for some reason, it suddenly stopped 3 days ago and for 3 days i searched for a fix. the only way i found this was a mail access error on the web mail thru att.yahoo where my messages showed up (they were also showing up on the i phone, not the mac)...had to verify the email....and while waiting, i found the att yahoo help page that cleared the whole problem
not removing files and putting them back in while opening and shutting mac....all the ports and ssls were checked and correct
apparently you have to clean your cache
    totally all att's fault
Web Mail - How do I clear my browser's cache?
It's true, a clogged cache can slow down and even stop your browser. Who wants that? Not us. Let's get to work clearing your cache. Which browser are you using? Instructions are included below for each of these:
Firefox 2.x for Windows or Mac
    1. For Windows or Mac, click Tools and select Clear Private Data.
    2. In the window that opens, select whichever items you'd like to clear. When you're done, click Clear Private Data Now.
    Safari 3 for Mac
    1. In the Safari menu, click Empty Cache. That's it!
    2. To also clear the History, click the History menu and click Clear History (at the bottom).
