Mail won't stay on just returns to dashboard

Hi when I go to mail it won't stay on with in seconds it goes back to home page?
Can anyone help?

Have you tried closing the app completely ? From the home screen double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • IPad Mail Won't Stay Open

My mail on iPad wil not stay open. Can anyone help? I have had the iPad since April 28. It was working ok. Today this problem started. I want to erase messages but it will not stay open long enough for me to do this

Thank you everybody! But I have solved the problem on both iPad and iPhone by deleting the email account and then setting it up again. I had it on to display 200 emails and once it reached that I could not erase as mail would not stay open. Does anyone think that this is a glitch in the iPad??
Once I deleted the account it got rid of all the emails and I am starting fresh again. Of corse all the emails are still on my computer!
    Thanks for your replies!

  • Mail won't list alias in return address

When I use Mail to start an email, it won't list my alias as a return address. I use both addresses for specific purposes. How do I remedy this?
    Thanks.

    Hello:
I (and probably most people) am confused.  Mail is an application.  Safari is a browser.  If you are connecting to some ISP mail application with Safari, the answer is with that provider.

  • Mail won't stay in dock

Every since installing Leopard and updating, Mail icon keeps leaving the Dock. I've created new User, done archive and reinstall, varified/repaired permissions, clicked on "leave in dock", etc. and yet every time I close Mail after using it, the Icon just disappears from Dock--thoughts? Thanks!! LT

What happens if you open your Applications folder and drag the Mail icon from there onto the Dock?
If that doesn't help, then the next thing I suggest is to locate the Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist from your Home folder, drag it onto the desktop, and then log out/log in (or enter killall Dock in Terminal). Then customize your Dock to desired. You can throw away the copy on the desktop if you find that the Dock works better this way.

  • Mail won't stay in folders in Mavericks. It bounces back to the inbox.

This happens intermittently. I will drag mail to a folder from the inbox after reading it, and a few minutes later, the mail will be back in my inbox. It doesn't happen with all messages, but it will happen over and over with the same emails. It never happened before installing Mavericks. Any help would be amazing, as this is seriously cranking my Inbox Zero obsession!

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Mail won't stay open on my Macbook Air

Hi I am having an issue with mail on my Macbook Air i have Yosemite. It opens then immediately the view window closes but the mail menu stays in top grey panel any one know how to fix this please.

Try logging out and back in or restarting your Mac.
If that doesn't do it, try looking for out-dated add-ons, as shown here -> iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins

  • Mail won't stay open

In the last 24 hours Mail has started crashing the moment I open it on my IPhone. The mail screen pops up for a second, and then closes again. I've updated my software, but it had no affect.
Anyone know how to fix this?

Try pressing the home and sleep button at the same time for about 10 seconds until the apple logo appears. This will give your phone a 'kick', you won't loose any data and it normally sorts the bugs out.

  • Mail won't stay open on iphone!

Nothing has changed, I've just suddenly can't keep my iphone mail open, can't read, send, I open it and it suddenly it goes back to the home page.

Ok so I got mine to work. I went to iTunes and downloaded the new operating system which was available for my 3gs as an update... (and it's really cool by the way).
It updated my carrier settings as well and the entire process took about twenty minutes, half of which was spent transferring my purchases and apps to itunes to make sure I didn't lose them.
So DON'T restore, simply download the new operating system and hopefully you will be good to go.
    Hope that Helps.

  • Mail won't stay on server

I have a cox email account. We access it via our 2 macbooks and now, my iphone. The macbooks have always beens set to "remove the mail from the server after a week". But since I got my iphone - the mail is being deleted every day. Please note that when I first got my iphone - it was downloading messages frrom the cox server (100 at a time). Since I had months of mail saved on the server, I went into the internet settings and chose to "delete all mail now" from all my folders. Thats when the problem started. I have re-set the email accounts in account preferences , and created a new email account for my self as well. I called cox, but they couldn't help. The mail just deletes from the server every day -- or it might even be as frequently as every time it downloads a batch to the server.

on the iPhone, open prefs, general, mail,
selecy account on list with double tap
    click on advanced button
what is your setting for deleted messages?
mine is set to remove after 1 day, but you can set it to never delete, 1 day, 1 week or 1 month
    hope this helps

  • Mail won't send.  Just sits in outbox

Mail does not send.  Messages sit in outbox.  Account settings have not been altered.  I don't get any error messages when I hit send button.

What email provider are you using? It appears your outgoing mail server is incorrect. One possible solution is to delete the account and add it again.

  • Sent Mail won't stay on IMAP server

I have Apple Mail set up as the default client for my IMAP account. All incoming email remains on the server, but sent mail goes directly to the local folders on my Macs but does not remain on the server. Email sent from Thunderbird remains on the server, which suggests that it is an Apple Mail issue.
Can someone offer a suggestion about how this might be addressed?
    Thanks much in advance.

When you have more than one account, there is a small black triangle beside the Sent Icon -- click it, and the separate Sent mailbox for each account will be revealed. Then employ the Use This Mailbox For command.

  • Mail won't run - can I rebuild without running Mail?

I was installing the latest update to Mail Tags in Mail and it crashed in the process of the update. Now mail won't run - it just hangs. I reinstalled Mail and it's still doing the same thing so it must be the mail data file (right?). Can I rebuild the data file without running mail? What to do?

Ok, I should have tried the easy solutions first. I deleted the preferences com.apple.mail.plist in my user's Library folder and that solved the problem. Of course your Library folder is hidden in Lion so you must reveal the folder first which can be done like this: hit command+shift+G from the finder and type ~/library/ You will ge temporary access to the Library folder.
    Problem solved for me.

  • Mail Icon won't stay in the position in the dock where I put it

I have a very strange happening on my iMac (OSX 10.5.5). The mail icon in my dock won't stay in the position where I put it. After a few seconds, it moves to the last position in the dock (before the dashed line). If my dock is at the bottom of screen, the mail icon moves to right just before the dashed line. If my dock is on the right side of screen, the mail icon moves to the bottom just before the dashed line. Each time I move the mail icon to another position in the dock, it moves back to the last position. Can anyone help me figure this out - so that I can put the mail icon where I want it to appear? Thank you. Dale

first a question for you. are you using Mobileme? I've seen a number of posts with the same problem by people using Mobileme (which i don't have). haven't seen a resolution to this but you might want to check in the mobileme forum. If you are not using mobileme try resetting Dock preferences. delete the file homedirectory/library/preferences/com.apple.dock.plist and restart Dock by running the following terminal command
    killall Dock
This will reset your Dock to the default and hopefully fix the issue.

  • Downloaded new ios7 and new itunes 11.1 and now iphone 4 won't finish syncing - just stays on last step and never finishes or cancels on its own. Tried reinstalling itunes with no success.

Downloaded new ios7 and new itunes 11.1 and now iphone 4 won't finish syncing - just stays on last step and never finishes or cancels on its own. Tried reinstalling itunes with no success.

I have the same problem.. latest version of iTunes (11.1.5) and latest version of ios (7.1) but it gets stuck at "waiting for changes to be applied" and I can't cancel the sync manually. It doesn't cancel on it's own either (at least not the 8 hours over night that it was syncing) and if I unmount the phone then the phone keeps the sync going (the little spinning arrows in the upper left corner) and doesn't recognize that it's been disconnected..
I've tried restoring the phone (with little success, managed to get one more song on there) and syncing over wi-fi but nothing seems to work. Any thoughts, anyone?
