Mail Yosemite: icon "send"missing when reply to an e-mail

Dear all,
I upgraded my macbook air to yosemite a few days ago. Everything went smoothly, but I have a problem with Mail.
Every time I click on the icon to reply (or reply all), a new window opens and I can write my answer BUT at the top of the window, all the icons are missing (see the image in attachment).
Then, the only way I have to send the e-mail is to save the reply as a draft and then re-open the draft. Only at this point the icons appear again!
Could someone help me? Has anybody had the same problem?
Cheers.

sorry i should have been more clear - this is an issue on my i-phone not my MAc Book

The error means that your antivirus or firewall is blocking the update process.

"apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com" is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the "Incoming Mail Server" field.
I can not even find the Incoming Mail Server.

  • When I send forward or reply to an e-mail with graphics the graphics do not get sent.

when I receive an e-mail that has photo's or graphics of any type, and forward them to some one the graphics or photo's to not get sent.

It should not be variable it should work or not work under specific conditions:
    1. If on 3G/Edge - you will need to use the ATT/Carrier SMTP server. This is because many ISPs (the one that you have your email with) do NOT allow access to their outgoing (SMTP server) from outside their network. If you are not going over your home network (wifi) you are outside.
    2. If on WiFi, then the ATT SMTP server will not work - you have to be going over 3G or Edge.
This is why you can have multiple SMTP servers listed, but it is not a perfect solution. If the iPhone tries the ISP SMTP server first over 3G - you get the error.
Some ISPs let you "login" to the SMTP server, and then you can send email using it, even when outside (3G/Edge).
The easiest thing for me is to just use the AT&T smtp server over 3G. I only switch to wifi rarely, and not for email. If I happen to have wifi on and I want to send email, i turn wifi off.
Ideally some more detailed config options would be nice where you could specify if your ISP SMTP server was usable over 3G/edge at all.

  • Curve 8530 is sending gibberish when replying to messages

My 8530 just started sending gibberish when I reply to my business e-mails.  This started the week before last and is random with some reply clear and others in gibberish.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

OK...then more details please. Especially -- since you said "work", is this BES? If so, you need to work with your BES admins.
If this is not BES, then I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.
If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.
But if the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then you may need to consider more drastic actions -- WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, and the "Bare Bones" OS Reload Process. To prepare, you should be sure that you have a full backup to your PC...please review the Backup link in my auto-sig on this post for instructions.

  • My mail.app icons are missing

The icons (send, get mail, etc) at the top of my mail.app are missing.
If I click on the "search field", they will show up for a brief period, but then disappear again.

From the "View" menu > "Show Toolbar".
If you have selected more icons for your tollbar, than the toolbar can hold, click the ">>" to reveal the missing icons.
Or enlage the Mail window to make the toolbar longer.
Or customize it, to remove other icons.
Or set the toolbar to show only the icons and no text, to save space.

  • Apple Mail won't send invitations when initially closed

I just started using iCal to send invitations for appointments through Apple Mail. When Apple Mail is opened already when I create the appointment and click Send in iCal, it works fine. The mail is sent and delivered to the appropriate address.
But if Apple Mail is closed initially, the application starts and the invitation is queued up in the Outbox but is never sent. I can manually open up each invitation in Mail and send them individually, but why is the behavior different? Whether Mail is opened or closed when I send an invitation, it ought to deliver the invitation automatically. By not being sent, I may not realize the invitation hasn't been delivered, making the process very error-prone. Is there a way to guarantee the invitation actually gets sent without having to check the Outbox every time?
Is this an iCal bug or an Apple Mail bug? I saw no settings in Apple Mail for sending messages at shutdown or any other setting like this. Instead, these invitations may end up being buried in my Outbox for a very long time before I notice and by then, it may be too late.

The most recent OS is currently OS 10.8.3.  Your system profile confirms you are still using Mac OS X (10.7.5).  If this is incorrect, please correct your profile so that you will get the correct troubleshooting suggestions/solutions.
Also, post in the OS/Mail forum of whichever OS is currently installed on your MBP.  It's where the OS/Mail expert helpers hang out at.

  • Mail crashes whenever I try to reply or create new mail

For the past 24 hours, whenever I try to reply to an e-mail, or create a new one, mail suddenly crashed. It is very reliable in this way; there are no exceptions. The the newest update/change to my configuration was the update of the 10.4.4 system stuff from Apple, followed a few days later by an update for the 15 in G4 Powerbook battery management.
Also, though not related to mail, the Software Update function does not work - "Can't connect to Update Server", and Safari will not load any pages - "CAn't connect to server...". However, Network Diagnostics says that I am connected to the internet, as does Firefox - it loads pages just fine! All other computers in our home network, including my G5 Tower, are performing and access the internet just fine.

OK. Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Do you have any Mail plug-ins or system utilities that could interfere with Mail? In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
    /Library/StartupItems/
    /Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/Mail/Bundles/
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • Mail: Delete message on server when I delete it in Mail

    Dear all,
I just recently switched from Windows to Mac and especially from MS Outlook to Mail. In Outlook I can tell it to only delete a message on the server when I delete it in Outlook. This is very helpful, so that when I use WebMail I do not see all the junk mail messages and other emails I deleted. Now in Mail I do not seem to be able to do this. Any ideas ?
    Thanks,

Go to Preferences, Accounts. Select the account you wish to configure. Click the Advanced Pane. Make sure the checkbox is checked for 'Remove copy from server after retrieving a message'. In the drop down just below that, choose 'When moved from Inbox'. This will let you retrieve a copy of the messages to your Mac, leaving a copy on the server. As long as you leave the message in your Inbox, the copy will stay on the server. If you then delete your local copy, or move it out of the Inbox, the next time you retrieve new messages from the server, the messages you have moved will be deleted from the server. The key is that there has to be at least one new message to retrieve. This works for me most of the time, since by the time I process the messages I already have, and then check for new messages, there usually are new messages. If you have a mail account that is not that active, or you just want to remove the most recent messages from the server, use the Get Info method above.

  • Mail notifications only coming through when I mannually press on mail or swipe notification screen - any advice?

Hi, I have an iphone 4s and would like mail, texts and facebook notifications to pop up as banners as and when they come through. Mail only seems to push through when I manually go into mail and press on it although notifications are there if I down swipe the notifications bar. All of my notification settings are on and set to banners so I am not sure where the problem lies. Thanks for your help.

Are they maybe coming through as banners and you just dont happen to be looking at the phone when they come through? Because banner notifications will come through as a banner and then disappear after a few seconds. But they will stay on the "slide down" notification screen.

  • I have no SEND button when I write an e-mail. I am receiving e-mails but cannot reply

Everything was fine this morning. I received and replied to e-mails. Then all of a sudden I went to write an e-mail. Wrote the e-mail but did not have a Send button, nor the toolbar that it was on. In fact the whole layout of "Write" looked different. I am still receiving e-mails but cannot reply to them. Why?

Many thanks - I now have a Send button and used it to send a reply to you.

  • Mail defaulting to wrong account when replying

I have my wife and my accounts both in Mail. Sometimes, when I do a reply, it defaults as coming from my wife's account instead of mine (even though the message was to me), which is super annoying.
    The details are this:
    - message comes addressed to both my wife and I (and several other people);
    - message is manually moved from my account folder to a folder I made for that topic;
    - maybe a few weeks later, I select that message and click "reply all";
    - I type up my reply and hit "send", expecting the Mail program to default to either:
       a) the account the message was originally sent to;
       b) the first account in the accounts list under Preferences;
Either one would be my account, not my wife's.
The problem is people reply (not "reply all") to my message and it goes to my wife's account, not mine, and I don't see it.
How do I get Mail to default to use my account as the sender?
    Thanks!

These are possible causes for an e-mail to end up in the wrong place:
    -additional shortnames in WGM
    -forward set in WGM
-a .forward file in the user's mail directory
    -an alias in /etc/postfix/aliases
    -an alias in /etc/postfix/virtual
    -a sieve script
    -a bcc
    -a catchall account
-an autoforward by the original recipient
    Hope I didn't miss any.
You should check all these possibilities. If you still need help, post relevant log entries and the unmodified output of postconf -n

  • Windows Phone and Windows 8 Mail App not sending email from Reply/Forward

I have recently upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1. After a successful upgrade I configured the Windows 8 Mail app to also sync with Exchange (2010 in house server). On my Windows Phone (Nokia Lumia 800) I have the same account configured.
This resulted in the problem that the Mail App and the phone do not want to send any emails that have been created by reply or forward.
The phone gives the following error:
"We weren't able to send this message, so we've put it in your Drafts folder. Before you try sending it again, you can check to see if the address is correct and that no attachments are too large."
The Mail App give the following error:
"There's a problem with sending messages from [email protected] at the moment. Check with your provider for more info."
If I create a new email there is no problem.
I have searched all over the internet for a solution to this problem, but could not find somebody with exactly the same problem.

I have exactly the same problem, but unfortunately no solution either... I'll be watching this thread, or post a solution if I find one...

  • No Send buttons when replying to messages.

    Hey Mac Users,
When I try to reply to an email and click on "reply" the window that comes up has the adress lines, subject and body, but no buttons across the top for Send, Chat, Attach, Address, etc. To actually Send, I have to close, Save as Draft, then go into Drafts folder. After I double click on the message, then Send button shows up.
Did I accidently turn off some feature?
    Feeling really dumb...
Any help would be much appreciated.
I am also digging around on this site a bit more and apologize in advance if I have posted in the wrong place.
    Thanks!

  • Mail Dock icon only shows when Inbox has new mail, not other folders.

    Hi
I've got Rules set up for Mail to move new mail to various folders on receipt, depending on the nature of the emails.
However the Mail icon in the Dock only indicates when new messages are in the Inbox, not other new emails which might be in other folders waiting to be read.
Is there some way to fix this so that it notifies me of all new emails?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Richard

    Are you running leopard?
Under preferences on my mail (version 3.1.1 i think) then the 'general' tab there is an option "dock unread count" which you can set to inbox/none or all mailboxes.
I don't remember this being an option under Tiger but it may be worth looking for if you're not on Leopard.
    Hope this helps
