Mail zapped all .Mac e-mails !

Help !
My wife is switching from one .Mac account to our family pack .Mac account (I upgraded my account). I changed the settings of her .Mac account in Mail (username, etc.), and when I closed the Preference panel, all previous e-mails were just GONE and nowhere to be found.
Then I realized the logic behind it (IMAP vs. POP), but I cannot find those e-mails.
Any chance to get them back ?

You'll have to provide more information about what exactly is it that you did in order for anyone here to be able to help you. Knowing that you "realized the logic behind it (IMAP vs. POP)" is clearly not enough.

  • Mac mail received all my old mails

mac mail received all my old mails from outlook server, but i only want to receive the recent 50 mails just like the mail app in my iphone, and i don't want to waste the storage of my macbook.
    how can i do that.
    thanks

Though the original question is old, people are still viewing it when they need help with the problem.
    I found this possible solution:
Apple Mail - Removing Messages from the Server
To have your Apple Mail remove messages from the server when you check mail (using POP), you will follow these steps:
After opening the Apple Mail program, click on "Mail" from the menu at the top.
    Click on "Preferences"
Click on "Accounts" (the @ symbol)
If you have more than one mail account, select the one you want to work with
    Click "Advanced"
Make sure the box next to "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message" is checked.
You can also remove messages currently saved on the server by clicking the "Remove now" button.
Click "Save" when you close the Preference pane
Using "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message" will make sure your messages are always downloaded to your Mac, and prevent your mailbox quota from being exceeded.

  • How do I duplicate the folders in Mail on my Mac to Mail in iCloud?

I have set up a series of folders in Mail on my Mac where I file all of my emails.
During the day I often access Mail on a PC via iCloud and there are no folders set up on my iCloud version.
Is it possible to duplicate my folder set up from Mail on my Mac to Mail on iCloud and to have changes made on one (e.g. messages deleted, new folders raised etc.) reflected on the other?

You should create your mail folders on the iCloud server (under ICLOUD in Mail), not locally on your Mac (under ON MY MAC) for them to show up on other devices and at iCloud.com.
Anything stored locally on your Mac only exists on that specific Mac so leave all your mail on the server and organise it there.

  • Problems Migrating from Entourage 2004 to All-Mac Apps (Mail, Address Bk)

    Greetings All,
Background: After careful consideration, I've moved from a Treo 650 and Entourage 2004 scenario to the new iPhone and all-Mac Apps platform.
It hasn't gone easily: lots of missing, critical data (below).
I don't understand why thousands of business people aren't posting about this: my data is invaluable, and compromised by chunks of it missing.
I have now spent about 15 hours researching this, and posted in several Google Groups. It's rather tedious, and I have lots of friendly people answering rather than people with answers. I like friendly people, but seriously, I'd rather have a hostile person who knows how to do this at this point.
I have read in several places of the scripts of a Paul Berkowitz called "Export-Import Entourage 1310," but the documentation provided doesn't make clear these issues are addressed.
I have written (five times) Mark/Space regarding their Missing Sync for the iPhone, but they have reading-comprehension issues, and I'm still not clear if they can get the notes from either my old Treo 650 via it into my iPhone.
    Here is what is missing:
    a) Can Paul's scripts (or anyone's!) re-export/merge Contacts such
that categorized/grouped are preserved? This is of great importance.
    b) Will it export Entourage's notes, and will they be
correctly titled, and in a useful place on the iPhone? (I have about
    400 notes), again categorized?
    c) Any way to export my Entourage filters/rules to Apple's Mail?
    d) Any way to export the large *mailing lists* (groups) I had in
    Entourage to Apple's Mail?
Thank you in advance for your informed answers, and I must say that this has been as annoying as Apple thinking we can't figure that when AT&T raised the rates, the savings on the new phone was wiped out.
Think Better, Apple. If you're trying to get us to use your platform, document how to make the switch.
    Thanks,
    km

Hey Kevin, sorry for the deafening silence. I can trade you two possible solutions for your secret elegant solution, how about that?
It turns out I have done the exact same thing you've done: I'm going from Entourage 2004/Treo 680 to Apple apps/Toodledo/iPhone. (Getting rid of Entourage altogether has more to do with the difficulty of using Entourage for my small business on the Mac than the iPhone switch.)
So, there are 2 Applescripts available that deal with moving contact groups and categories to the Mac Address Book.
The first is a script from Paul Berkowitz called Sync-Entourage Address Book. This script was developed before Microsoft turned on Sync Services within Entourage, and was intended to fill that gap. It purportedly can copy over contacts, categories and groups from Entourage to Address Book. It has special features for handling both categories and groups simultaneously. The latest version available is from Feb. 2006, and purports to work with Panther and Tiger, but there's no info on whether it works with Leopard. Also, there's no telling whether it will work simultaneously with Apple sync services. (I would guess not.) Berkowitz is not answering emails or responding in Microsoft forums anymore; according to one of the other Entourage MVPs, he is too busy with his day job, so this is apparently all the information there is. If you want to take a chance, the script is here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/WebObjects/FileSharing.woa/69/wo/1XKAw6Pv2qUMw3xZ.1/0.2. 1.2.26.31.97.9.35.0.1.1.1?user=berkowit28&fpath=Sync%20Entourage-Address%20Book& templatefn=FileSharing.html
There is another (free!) Applescript from a guy named Jon Nathan called Sync Entourage & AB Groups, that syncs Groups only. It is designed to work with Apple Sync Services, and Nathan has written me that it is up-to-date and does work with Leopard. He also wrote me that you can get an idea of how long it will take in this fashion:
"If you open the script in the Script Editor, switch to the "Event Log" tab
at the bottom of the script window, then run the script from here by
clicking the "Run" button, you can watch in real time as it processes your
contacts and you can get a sense of how long it will take to process your
contacts. This will take some time with that many contacts & groups so it's
probably best to run it while you can do something else like eat lunch."
    Nathan's script is available here:
    http://www.jonn8.com/html/SyncEntourageABGroups.html
So, some answers to your questions about note exporting from Entourage:
For tasks and notes, I decided to use two iPhone apps from a company called Appigo: Todo and Notebook. Both apps store tasks and notes locally on the iPhone, interact with each other, and can sync to a Web service called Toodledo. Toodledo can import CSV files to their (under-featured, hopefully to be improved) Web notebook, and from there, you can bring them into Notebook on the iPhone. (Notebook works great on the iPhone and you will be loving it a lot more that the Memo app on your Palm, trust me.) In Toodledo, Todo and Notebook, you use folders in place of the categories you had in Entourage, for both tasks and notes.
Unfortunately, I had a very frustrating time getting my 300+ notes out of Entourage using Berkowitz's import-export scripts, but I did figure it out, and can save you some time if your interested. (You will need TextWrangler in addition to the Berkowitz scripts.)
As far as tasks go, I only have about 30, so it was no big deal to enter them by hand in Toodledo and bring them onto the iPhone with Todo. (FYI, Toodledo's basic Web service is free, you pay an annual subscription fee if you want your stuff encrypted on their servers.)
The Toodledo developer has an active forum, and the Appigo guys have Google Groups for both apps. Both Appigo and Toodledo respond directly and quickly to feature requests, questions, etc.
So how's that? What you got for me?

  • E-mail addresses (not.mac) through Mail?

I have never figured out how to set up different a new Account. If you deselect .mac and then choose POP (?) or the other ones, it asks for an e-mail address. I thought Mail set you up with an e-mail address. Let's say my wife and I quit AOL . I know I have a .mac address on Mail, but could I get a new e-mail address for my wife through Mail. Thanks

    Hello Dean.
The Mail.app or any email client such as the Mail.app does not automatically set you up with an email account or address.
The Mail.app is an email client only allowing for creating and accessing an email account that you obtain elsewhere such as from your ISP used for connecting to the internet or from an email account provider only such as a .Mac account provided by Apple.
You can access an AOL email account with the Mail.app by creating the account as an IMAP type account.
If you quit AOL and sign up with a different internet service provider, the new ISP will provide you an email account and the required settings for creating and accessing the account with the Mail.app.

  • E-mail looses all images if mail server doesn't accept outgoing email...

I open some web page in Safari, press Command+i, new email message is created and all web page content is inserted in the email message, including all images. Nice! I enter email address and send email.
If for some reason outgling mailserver doesn't accept my outgoing email, the same email is shown again to let me choose another outgoing mail server.
BUT - at this time all images in the email body are gone! Instead of the images I see blue rectangles with the white question marks on them. And if I proceed and send such email via another email server, recipients get email from me without pictures embedded in the email.
Can Apple fix this bug? It's really annoying, because quite often outgoing mail server of my ISP is not accepting my outgoing emails and I cannot resend email through another mail server, because images are already lost - I have to delete email, switch back to Safari, again Command+i, again enter email address and then change email account and then try to send again...

Posting this here is a good idea if you’re looking for possible solutions/workarounds, but if all you want is to let Apple know so that it’s fixed, you’d better do it in one of the following places:

  • Outgoing mail blocked with Mac's Mail Client

    Hi,
I work at a small law firm and we are having some trouble with our email...
We have email accounts set up for all our staff through our website on our Mac Server. The problem we are having is that when someone is outside the office they cannot email anyone inside the office... the email only works internally... yet, from inside the office some computers can email outside servers (such as gmail and yahoo)... All the computers have external IP addresses (no DHCP) and only the ones that start with 66.something can email outside servers... the ones that start with 209.something can't.
I've searched through the forums with no luck... any suggestions on how to allow anyone to email anyone?
    Thanks,
    Chris

You need to enable authentication and have your outside users authenticate.

  • ALL of my mail inbox is gone since recent mail update by Mac, gone where??

Since Mac recently changed the mail application ALL of the mail which was in my inbox has gone and I cannot find it. I kept stuff in there which I really need, does anyone know how I might get it back???
    aliasK

If this happened as a result of something you did using the .Mac web interface or as a result of the changes introduced there, then this is definitely a .Mac Email On The Web issue.
If that’s the case, the fact that your mail has disappeared from Mail as well would just be a consequence of the problem that neither you nor we can do anything about, unless you have a backup copy of the contents of the ~/Library/Mail/ folder, in which case, depending on what the account settings are, it might be possible to recover your mail.
You may want to report the problem to .Mac email support. IMO, if it’s their fault (which I don’t know), then they would be obliged to restore your mail from any backups of the server contents they might have (if any).
If, on the other hand, this happened as a result of something you did in Mac OS X Mail, then the discussion would belong to this forum, and you should provide information as to the circumstances under which it happened if you want to make any sense out of it.

  • Question: all Mac mail gets forwarded to Yahoo

I hope someone can help me with my new MAIL problem.  Ever since YAHOO updated their mail site, ALL of my mail is being forwarded to my Yahoo address. I still receive everything through MacMail....but then it also appears in my Yahoo account.
My cable carrier is Charter and I do not have forwarding set in any of my Mail preferences. I just had a thirty minute session with Charter's MailSpecialist troubleshooter and she confirmed that 'mail forwarding' is not enabled in any of my accounts: She says it's a MAC problem.
I also contacted Yahoo and they say, also, that it is a MAC problem...
Here are the addresses I have set up in MacMail:
    charter.net POP  (two addresses)
    MobileMe IMAP
    mail.com  IMAP
    anyone have any ideas?
    thanks

Seems the problem has been solved at the senders end after my heart rending plea. Mail now being received. Thanks to anyone about to respond

How do I clean up mail in my icloud?  I have already deleted old mail (from all my e-mail accounts) on all devices, and emptied the junk & deleted files, but it still shows that I am at max on my icloud. What do I do to free up space? (photos & apps do not take up that much room).  When I go to manage storage on any device & it will display how much room each program or app is using, it still shows that my e-mail is taking up the most room.  Is there a way to actually log on to the icloud server to manage what it stored there?  If so, how do I do it?  Also, on a related subject,  why does my mail not sync accross all devices?   ie. when I delete an email on one device, why do I still see it on all my other devices?  How can I change this?
I have an iphone5, ipad2, ipod 4th gen, ipod 3rd gen, all running on my same apple id - but I have a PC not a Mac home computer - is this part of the problem?  Looking to upgrade to a Mac sometime this year...
    Thank-you for the help!

I do have the Time Capsule and spoke to Apple Care here in Sydney about it yesterday.  They told me my mail is not backed up there unless I create a special folder. I just tried ringing them again but Apple Care is closed today...
Mail is backed up automatically. If you make backups automatically, open Mail application and then, open the Time Machine app (in /Applications/Utilities). You will access to the Time Machine interface, and you will be able to see all your mails of all the backups you have, and you will be able to restore them. It means that your mails are backed up onto the Time Capsule

  • 10.6.8 update ate all my sent mail!

Never happened in all my years on Mac: The update to 10.6.8 disappeared the contents of all Sent Mail Messages folders. Why and how would it do such a thing?
All POP mail accounts, three GMail and one Comcast. Wondering if making IMAP accounts will bring them back ... but really, Apple, ***? I prepare for updates, keep a clean, updated machine—MacBook Pro 17"—repair permissions after updates ...
    Thanks for any clues/advice,
    Connie

Same problem as humorzo.  My inbox consists of 10 different email accounts, including MobileMe, Gmail, other IMAP and POP based accounts.  NEVER had any issues with Mail or OS upgrades until 10.6.8.  Literally did two hours of email composing and sending off, only to realize that NOT one left the building and there is NO record in the DRAFT, OUTBOX or SENT Mail folders of any of the emails I sent.  As humorzo very aptly states - 10.6.8 with Mail ATE all my sent mail.
I tried rebuilding mail boxes.  It has now otoally screwed up my SENT MAIL - more missing than before rebuilding, dates screwed up.
NOT Happy - deleted mail prefs file (after copying original to a safe spot).  That didn't help - so reinstated original mail prefs file.
Checked DIsk Utility.  Drive is fine - repaired disk permissions.  All to no avail.
Apple - you have a problem here - please work this out ASAP.

  • How do I change the folder in which Mail saves sent e-mails (On my Mac)?

If I send an e-mail from my iPad, te e-mail is saved in "sent items". However, if I send an e-mail from my Mac, with mail, the e-mail is saved in another folder: "Sent Messages".
I know I can easily change the folder in which the iPad saves sent e-mails, but I would like to change this setting on my Mac, so that the Mac saves sent e-mails exactely where the iPad saves snet e-mails.
Is it possible to change this setting on the Mac?

    Bryan.O wrote:

    There might. (Stress, might.)
    Quit Mail.
    Make a backup of <~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist>.
Open it with a suitable text editor (eg, TextWrangler), or plist editor (eg, Xcode, Pref Setter).
Look for the key "SentMessagesMailboxName". Replace the string "Sent Messages" with what you want.
Repeat for every such key. Save.
Launch Mail. Test. If anything goes wrong, replace com.apple.mail.plist with the backup.
Warning: I have not tested this myself, so I don't know if it works and/or if it causes any problems.
