Mail7.1 Group preferences don't work

I have the preference to show all addreeses in a group UNCHECKED but when I send an email to a group all addresses are shown.
How can I stop this?
Bill

Personally, I havene't played with that setting, but I don't think just because it shows the names to you means it shows the names to them. It puts some type of mask on the outgoing addresses. But, I haven't tried it in Mavericks to see what happens. You trying it yourself is the only way I think you will be comfortable.
However, Bcc is Blind Carbon Copy. It sends the message to each recipient "in the blind." As opposed to some trickery Mail is doing with the group thing, Bcc is the email standard for hiding recipients from the others.
Here is what Mail Help says:
Hide recipients’ addresses
Hide the email addresses of your recipients so they don’t see each other’s addresses.
Enter your recipients’ email addresses in the Bcc field (leave the To field blank).
For a group address, choose Mail > Preferences, click Composing, then deselect “When sending to a group, show all member addresses.”Recipients see “Undisclosed-recipients” in the To field.

  • After this week Mac OsX update combined 10.7.3. System Preferences don't work

All items in system preferences don't get saved/applied. By now the dock doesn't appear on my screen, dashboard and spaces tabs don't work, desktop and screen saver don't save changes or apply so desktop is grey. Trackpad functions don't work.
Any idea on how to fix this?  Thanks.

Few have solved this problem by repairing disk
or reinstalling Lion using Recovery HD.
    Tough but.

  • System preferences don't work

I upgraded to Mavericks and I 'm having few problems, sigh
I have since MLion  5  different desktop screens
I assigned different applications to each screen:
Safari opens in the second screen, Mail in the first and so on.
When I restart my prefs are gone. All apps open in the first screen or on the desktop where I am in that moment.
Another even more annoying bug is that
if I lock the screen saver in System Prefs , Security Privacy, General, it locks
but then if I uncheck the radio button “Require password”
it keeps asking for the password every time the computer sleeps.
I already tried to reset the PRAM, throw away those  preferences
    com.apple.finder.plist,
    com.apple.systempreferences and
    com.apple.screensaver.
and restart.  They were the most recent ones in my user prefs folder, presumably the one changed
    Nothing changed.
Of course I repaired the permissions, restart and repaired my permissions from the recovery disk
If I restart with password required
it will stay like that till I restart
and if it's not required it will not be possible to change my preference when I would like.
It looks like my system preferences don't accept changes as they did before upgrading to Mavericks.
Some do but some, like the one I mentioned above, don't
I'm guessing there is something broken somewhere  that does not let me keep my prefs the way I want
    Any suggestion?

    Do you use Mission Control?
I think this the new version of altered desktops.
    About require "password"
In the settings you can change settings without unlocking (this might be a bug) try to unlock first and then make your changes.
    Good luck

  • I have a Mac Pro using Lion, with a SSD for system.  Restored drive from backup.  Now logon password doesn't work.  Account password still works.  Changing password in user group preferences no longer works to change logon password.

I have a Mac Pro using Lion, with SSD for system drive.  Drive stopped booting, but otherwise appeared healthy.  Restored from system backup.  Now drive seems to work properly, BUT my logon password no longer works.  Password OK for account; can access system preferences, and change user password there BUT logon still refuses to accept password.  No luck changing password for that account after adding new administrator account and logging on from that account.  Suggestions?  Thanks.

If you redirect Accounts to another location (not on the Boot Drive) you need to direct them back there again after a restore.
    SystemPreferences > Accounts/User&Groups > ...
... Unlock the lock, then hold down Control as you click on an Account to get access to the Advanced Options pane.

  • Sound Preferences don't work

I recently had my hard drive replaced by Apple Care due to a crash. I received my MAC and it's running MAC OS 10.4.9.
All of my sound alerts are not happening. I tried resetting my sound preferences and it doesn't work. I ran Disk Utility and repaired permissions.
Does anyone know of any other things I should try to fix this?
    Thank you.

  • Desktop and Screensaver preferences don't work;

Desktop and Screensaver Preferences worked perfectly until the latest update, 10. 5. 7 were installed.
I tried every suggestion and approach to solve this problem, nothing worked. So I reinstalled 10 .5
and it works perfectly again. What changes were made in the 10.5.7 combo that would cause this problem? J. Weigel

They work fine on my computers also.
If it occurs again, see if it also happens in a newly created User Account. If it doesn't, there is probably a corrupt preference file. If that's the case, return to your usual User account and remove all the .plist files with screensaver or desktop in them from the folder
    Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences
including any .plist files in the ByHost folder in that Preferences folder.
If it does occur in another Users Account, you will probably need to do an Archive & Install from the install disk.

"Doesn't work" is not exactly descriptive.
    Please do the following:
    1. Read the FAQ and learn how to posting listings using the tags
    2. Post the input
    3. Post the output you are getting
    4. Post the output you would like to have
If you can put together 2-4 as DDL for a table with some INSERT and SELECT statements that would be best as we could then test a solution before posting it.

  • Desktop/Screen Saver System Preferences don't work

Recently, I have gone to System Preferences- Desktop/Screen Saver, in an attempt to change my desktop picture. The preference window opens, but clicking on either the Desktop or Screen Saver button produces no results. Nothing happens. I'm getting rather tired of the desktop picture, so any advice would be appreciated!
    Thank you.
    Cameron MacDonald

Hi Cameron I'm not going to be much help because I too have exactly the same problem with my machine - I have tried re-installing Leopard and that makes not one scrap of difference - I have cleared out all the rubbish on the machine - no difference - sent umpteen "reports" to Apple expecting some sort of response - after all the OS is the best thing since sliced bread so they can't have many reports to deal with - perhaps its us causing the problem.

  • Safari Preferences set in WGM don't work.

One feature which always worked well in 10.4 server was the Internet tab in Groups/Preferences. I used to be able to set the Safari home page for all our users. I have never had much luck with using plist Safari prefs. I tried again, using the prefs from the server itself. When I opened up Safari on a 10.4 client, the Home button was messed up and didn't work and the home page was not set. I suspect that this may have something to do with the different versions of Safari. Has anyone got this feature working? At the moment all users get the Live Apple home page, which is a blocked site on our WLAN. Very messy . . .

Apple Safari 5.1 and Adobe Reader/Acrobat Advisory
Check with Adobe. Perhaps they can offer a solution. I responded to your post before.
Just in case, have you tried a different browser?

  • Managed preferences: computer prefs work; user prefs don't work on Lion clients.

OK, so I'm running into a similar problem as before, but in reverse. On Snow Leopard clients, all of my MCX preferences work perfectly (computer and user). On Lion clients however, only computer/group preferences show up. User/group preferences are nowhere to be seen.
Server: OSX 10.6.8, OD (no AD)
    Snow Leopard and Lion clients.
    All clients bonded with server.
    Most other services work.
    Stuff I've tried:
Clearing/flushing MCX caches, unbonding/rebonding clients, restarting clients.
    Deleting/recreating users and groups.
    Restarting server.
Turning off all computer/group MCX preferences (so that only user preferences remained). No difference--accounts became unmanaged.
    Goals:
Set Group sharepoint to automount for all users.
Set a Yearbook sharebpoint to automount for members of Yearbook group.
Set various preferences to Always Managed for students.

    Lots of discoveries.
    The problem isn't MCX preferences.
It was a combination of two things.
The preferences hierarchy was cancelling out some of the things I wanted to do.
The Lion clients weren't reacting nicely to my custom Group folder. I was following Wazza's Server Notes on creating a universal Group folder to share between user groups. The Snow Leopard clients were fine with this; the Lions weren.
Solution: It's a little bit of a hack, but I added my Groups folder to the Login as a simple AFP URL instead of ticking the "Add Group Share Point" box, and I did it from the computer groups instead of the user groups.
Bonus: Other MCX user settings are working now, and I'm a happy camper.
