Mailbox Archive File Size vs. Actual Mailbox File Size

Why would a Mailbox Archive File be 3GB if Mailbox File itself is 5.35GB? Are they compressed?
I don't have confidence in the archive file enough to delete the mailbox file yet. (Trying to free up some HD space).
Can one just save the mailbox file and later return it to Apple mail?
Really what is the advantage of the mailbox archive?

Areas of continuos tone can be simplified - therefore reduced - more than areas with lots of detail. For example, if you had a picture of a wall-any single color, light or dark- the compression algorithm could look at the whole wall and define it as a big rectangle and use just a few bytes of information.
In contrast, if you had a scene with many details, it would be necessary to use a finer calculation and representation to avoid losing those details in the compressed image.
DPI= dots per inch and is only really relevant for printing. ie, a 1200x1800 image file printed at 300 dots per inch would be printed as a 4"x6" picture.
If you were to print the same file at 600 dpi, it would be 2"x3" picture.
DPI matters because a picture printed at 600 dpi will normally appear sharper and clearer than one printed at 300 dpi. Most people will recommend that you print at at least 150 dpi in order to get a decent printed picture. This means that you should think about whether you plan to print, and if so, how big you want to print before you take the picture to make sure it will have enough information to fill out the desired picture size at the desired dpi.
Screen dpi (or more accurately, ppi (pixels per inch)) can vary depending on the size and selected resolution of the screen.
So, it is incorrect to say "1600x1200dpi"- the image size is 1600x1200 pixels (about 1.92 MegaPixels), not 1600x1200 dots per inch.

What I have:
* I have problem with installation of the Mac OS X Panther v10.3 on iMac.
* I have 3 original CDs (black with silver X).
What I did:
* I made new 1 partition and formated disk as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) over the Disk Utility in the first CD as normal without additional options (if I tried to format disk with zero all data and 8 way random write format after 3 days computer freeze)
* I verified disk over this utility - that was ok - HFS volume verifed.
* Then I restarted the computer and ran installation from this first CD
What happened:
* installation did not finish, because there were some problems during installation process.
* i tried to customize installation just for essential work (without other languages support, printers etc), but it was still the same problem

It seems like a problem with reading some data from the CD, but during the installation checking of disk was ok.. maybe it can be problem with the cd-rom..? Or problem with data on cd-rom - I mean bad archive file..? But it is original CD.. What do you think??

How many messages are in an archive file?

Hi,
Is there a way to tell how many messages are written to each archive file? It looks like the default file size is 200M.

If you really want,you can cancel this job in sm37.
But i would say that you can let it run. as long as it does not affects the performance of PI system you should be ok.
a better approach would have been to increase the retention period in sxmb_adm,then go to SE38 and execute the program RSXMB_SHOW_REORG_STATUS, this will tell you how many messages will be archived/deleted once the job run.
You can set the retention period so that it takes around 50-60K messages, then let the report run ,should finish in 3-4 hours max (thats what i used to do), then go back to sxmb_adm and reduce the retention period.execute the report again and see how many messages it will archive now.
Keep on doing this until you archive/delete all the messages.

File Adapter Archive File Name Pattern

Here is my question.
I have BPEL process that reads a file, process it and archives it.
The process is working fine, but the archived file has timestamp attached to the file extension. since my file already has timestamp in its name, is there any way that we can configure file adapter not to add that timestamp to archived file?.

The timestamp added to the archive filename is the time that the file was processed by bpel. i think this is good information that you can keep just in case you need to resubmit the same file for processing later. or if the file is actually processed in a different date than than on your filename's. just a thought.

How to import Apple Mail archive files in Outlook 2013?

I need to import Apple Mail archived files in Outlook 2013 on Windows, but every time I open the import wizard and reach the file selection step, I cannot select the archived file. It doesn't even show in the dialog box.
I don't know what the issue is. Is it the file size issue as the archive file is large (about 7 GB) or there is any other fault?

If both system are using the IMAP mail provider all you have to do is setup the connection to the mail server and all the emails and folders will be copied down to the windows computer. That is what IMAP is for. The mail stays on the server, and can be store
on the local computer also, and when you connect to the server with another device, computer, phone or pad, all the mail with folders gets copied to the other device.
But I think some of your mail was gotten using POP so it is not longer on the server.
Or you have emails in local folder only and they would be on the server. But you can create folder on the server in one mail program, or on the mail web interface and then copy those emails into those folder on the server byt copying them in one of the email
programs. Then when you log on with the other device all of them will be downloaded to the other device.

Archive files for database are generating very quickly

I could see that the archive files for my database are generating very quickly (i.e for every 2 minutes) which fast and filling up my archive file location mount point. How to troubleshoot the issue?

Archive log generation is the result of DML activity against your database. Your redo log file size seems to be very small. Increase redolog file size by at least 10 times of the current size to make a log switch happen approximately after 20 minutes.

Archive File --File Adapter

Hi All,
I am using file adapter to Archive File. In Processing mode i have set as Archive and also selected the Add Time stamp checkbox.
Now the file is being archived with timestamp being added.
EX :
20061204-143518-299abc.txt
I want to send the file name in a mail.
how do i get the file name.

You can access the file name in the mapping if you are SP14 and above.
In the sender File adapter, select File name and then in the mapping use the following code to get the file name,

PP_ORDER - Duplicate entries in archive file

Hello Experts,
I am using the archiving object PP_ORDER in SARA. However, after executing 'write' , when I check in txn AS_AFB, under PP_ORDER, I can see that multiple archive files are created under the same run.
Eg: 000182-001PP_ORDER , 000182-002PP_ORDER, 000182-003PP_ORDER etc.
Now, the problem is , in the files 000182-001PP_ORDER and 000182-002PP_ORDER, I could see that similar entries exist.
What causes such an inconsistancy? Why is the same entry being written to multiple archive files in the same run?
In the customizing settings for the object PP_ORDER, I have maintained the maximum size in MB to be 40 MB -> this is why multiple files are created in the same run.
Can any of you please throw some light on this at the earliest?

Archive File Browser using transaction AS_AFB.
The Archive File Browser is used to display the content of archive files. Note that this is purely a technical display.There is no business formatting.
Please note Info structures SAP_PP_ORDER001 and SAP_PR_ORDER001 delivered by SAP do not support duplicate index entries.
If you want to have multiple entries in the index, you must change the 'File in index' indicator from D to K in the field catalog of the info structure (Transaction SARI -> Customizing -> Environment -> Field catalogs). The name of the archive file then also belongs to the key and you can generate index entries for the same order in different archive files. You have to create an info structure with this field catalog to activate this change. That is, you must delete the old info structure and recreate and activate it using the modified field catalog. Remember that the system deletes the complete index table when you do this. You must rebuild the index table for the modified info structure by re-indexing the old archives.
You must use Note 387505 to use the archive information system with archiving object PR_ORDER.

Java Archive files (.jar)

Situation: How do we get around having the same class in multiple jar files? Currently I have two projects sharing the same class. We are attempting to move the class in question to another archive file, but the problem we run into at deploy time is ClassNotFoundException. The only way we got around this problem is to deploy the classes into its on directory and deploy the EJB afterwards. Is there any other solution other than our alternative?

There's two ways:
1) put it in the parent ClassLoader (e.g. the JVM).
Downside, you make a change, you have to completely
recycle the server (which means an "outage" for
however long that takes). You can also have a class in
that common.jar that does some very
unpredictable things that might compromise the JVM
and/or ClassLoader (such as a "memory leak") which can
compromise the server's operation. Of course, this can
happen in a child ClassLoader, but it usually won't
take the whole thing down with it.
2) You build and "distribute" the common.jar
(as a binary) across your deployable units (EAR, WAR).
This is pretty much the same concept of providing an
EJB-client JAR file for accessing EJBs from a
different JVM or ClassLoader.
As far as I know, these are the only two ways of doing
it - unless you write your own custom ClassLoader
class. Then, of course, you're messing around in the
vendor's ClassLoader area and, if it's proprietary,
you really have no idea what they're actually doing in
there and it could really bite you hard (see #1) if
you make even the smallest mistake.Thanks for the answer. It seems like its just a matter of coordinating independent development teams. We need to come up with some standards, more of a project management thing, yuk.

Archiving File Not created

Hai Gurus,
here i doing an archiving task,i havecreated the variant and assigned four weks to archive,after 40 min later i found the job is finished and when i started deleting ,the archived file file NOT created.So i cross checked in spool request and it shown as the "WAITING",the Statistics screen as NO data found.
I have my job log as the arching is been created with "1" archiving object, but actually it has to show me the file name:"archive_bw_000025236.....".So what can be the reason and where can be the file be gone or saved?what is the procedure to find the Archived file,i mean in which table i can see
please let me know

Hi Suri,
When you archive any data( in your case- 4 weeks data), the system will confirm if this data is business complete. If YES, then it will archive your stipulated data and only then you may be able to see the Log of the archived data.
if there is no data ( business complete)to be archived, then NO archive file will be created.
You can see the Archive file name in the Job Log of that particular archiving run.
By the way, which data/object are u archiving ? may be i can help you.

Missing archive file v13 download

I am getting a "missing archive file v13 elements" download and have wasted all afternoon trying to find help info on adobe web site

I've been looking all night for the solution to this problem. I've also been looking for an actual link to Live chat with Adobe but I think that supposed option is BS. It seems they want the general public to do their customer service for them. Awful customer service.

Don't worry, the switch file doesn't occur when file is 100% full, but before to avoid some contention. Fursthermore, this is not a copy from redolog file, but a copy from the data which are into the redolog file, that's why you can have difference between archive and redo size.

Does anyone know a way to build a query on archive files, archived in BI using the SAP ADK standard tools?
We don't want to load back the data that we archived with transaction SARA.
So is there a way of using archive files as DataSources to build VirtualCubes on?

Importing Archive File into Outlook 2013

We got a couple of new PCs for some users and one of them had an Archive folder in Outlook 2010. I still have the archive.pst file from the old PC and I'm trying to import it into Outlook 2013 but it's not working. It seems pretty straight forward but
after I choose the archive.pst file, it doesn't actually add anything. Am I missing a step?

Please do the following steps to copy your archive.pst file to Outlook 2013 and open it:
1. Open Outlook 2010 in your old PC.
2. Click File > Open > Open Outlook Date File.
3. Copy the location of the Archive file from the opening windows(example: C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\Outlook Files).
4. Close Outlook 2010, and paste the copied location in Windows Explorer and Enter it.
5. Copy the Archive file. (To double check the file is copied completely, we can paste it in the local old machine and open it to have a test.)
6. Paste the copied Archive file in new PC.
7. Open Outlook 2013 in new PC.
8. Click File > Open&Export > Open Outlook Data File, expand the location of your pasted Archive file and open it.
Then check whether there are any messages in the opened archive folder.

Managing assets in Creative Cloud - deleting archived files

I have used up nearly all of my 20GB of Creative Cloud storage. However, when looking in Finder, I notice that I really only have about 6GB in the folder. Turns out, CC archives files, which is great in the event that I lose a file on a hard drive or a file get corrupted. I'd be able to restore from the archive. However, all those archive files take up a lot of space. I found out how to delete the archive files using the web based Manage Assets. However, it won't let me SHIFT select. I have to actually click each one, one at a time. I have over 3500 archive files. That will take me 20-30 minutes to do this.
Is there a better way to delete the archive files, other than DELETE ALL ARCHIVES?
