Mailbox Folders

how do I create folders on my iPad 2 in the mail application..to file the received mail.  The folders I created for Yahoo (web based mail) are all there but I can't figure out how to make any new ones...thanks for any help you can give me.

At the moment you can't do it directly in the Mail app, you need to create them on your email client like you did with the other folders, and they should also then appear in the Mail app.
With iOS 5 in the Autumn you should be able to do it directly in the Mail app - from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#more :
Even add and delete mailbox folders on the fly.

It might be that you selected "Delete sent mail after a mont (or a week, or whatever)" in Mail Preferences. iCloud account is IMAP, so it won't keep mail in your HD. I have that problem.

  • Archiving mailbox folders to an external HDD - How?

I have a Mac Bool Pro and I have a large number of mailbox folders that I do not use very much. I would like to offload these folders to a large external HDD and remove them from the internal HDD of the Macbook pro...how do I do this ?
I also then want to be able to access the archived material from the external HDD simply if I need these at a later date ....any ideas ?
Thanks to anyone that can hel me

Well, strictly speaking, you can do this. Two ways. One is tricky:
How are you at editing SQL databases?
    This user found a way:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3216539?tstart=30
But tread very carefully - get it wrong and you'll hose everything. Make a back up first.
    The other is expensive:
Purchase Aperture, and if you have the latest versions of both these apps, then you can open the Library with Aperture, and use the relocate Masters command.
Or, in the end, make a managed Library. A Referenced Library is more work for zero gain.

  • Mailbox folders are missing, like priority, follow up, etc.  How do I get them back?

All of my personal mailbox folders are missing like follow up, priorities, reservations, online receipts, etc.  How do I get them back?  I did soft reset but it did not resolve the problem.  I recently updated the software but that was about a week ago.   This just happened a day ago.  Any help would be so appreciated.
    THanks!
    Lori

I think that Dominic is giving a suggestion for the mail application on a Mac computer, not an iPad.
If you had additional mailboxes on the iPad, that means that your email account is IMAP and the mailboxes should sync across devices. Are the mailboxes/folders still in existence when you log into your email account in a web browser? If they era still there, then they should sync to the iPad and yo all of your other devices.
Try closing mail completely and reset your iPad. Then see if they reappear.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

    Yes you can

  • Lost all my mailbox and smart mailbox folders when I had to reinstall Mail

My messages were garbled...a message from one person today was attached to a message from a completely different person sent weeks ago. Called Apple and we removed Mail and plist from the Finder Library. Now my new messages are fine. But I've lost all my Mailbox folders where I organized messages. Can't find the messages on the dotmac server either. Where are those messages? I need to find them.

Mailboxes and messages are located in ~/Library/Mail Check that folder to see if any folders are named for your accounts (e.g., [email protected]). Look in these folders if they contain any messages.
Alternatively, you can do a Spotlight search for a specific message that you know you had. In the Search results, right-click to Show in Finder. This may lead you to where all your other messages are.
Other than re-importing messages from within Mail.app, I don't know how you can restore everything including folder structures, etc. Perhaps someone else in this forum can give pointers. Re smart mailboxes, you can just recreate them once everything is back in.

  • How do I archive or 'export' mailbox folders to DOCUMENTS?

How do I archive or 'export' mailbox folders to DOCUMENTS?

    Hey there BethWB,
It sounds like you are wanting to export your Emails as files, rather than archiving your entire mailbox in one file. You can do that in a few ways, and this article will help you do that in Mavericks:
Mail (Mavericks): Save messages as files or PDFs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14913
To save messages as files to use in other apps, select one or more messages or conversations, then choose File > Save As.Rich Text Format retains formatting, but Plain Text does not. Raw Message Source saves messages in mbox format, which can be imported into Mail and most other email apps. With Raw Message Source, the header is visible and an encoded version of attachments is retained.
To save messages as PDF documents, select one or more messages, then choose File > Export as PDF.
To save a single message in mbox format, drag the message onto your desktop. To reopen the message in Mail, double-click the file.
If you ARE wanting to archive the entire mailbox to one file, this will help you do that:
    Mail (Mavericks): Archive messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14894
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Smart Mailbox folders

    Hi
I have created several new smart mailbox folders to file my incoming emails but they are purple with a cog in the middle rather than blue. These purple folders will not allow me to drag emails into. Is there a simple process to make them receptive?
    Thanks

    boxhead wrote:
The purple folders are Smart Mailbox folders, whose content is dependent on the conditions you set up for each of them.
    That isn't quite correct, actually.
In Leopard there are *"Smart Mailboxes"* and also *"Smart Mailbox Folders"*. Both look like purple folders with cogs.
+Smart Mailbox+ contents depend on criteria set for them.
+Smart Mailbox Folders+ are only useful for organizing +Smart Mailboxes+.
Of course, email can't be put into either one.

  • Smart Mailbox Folders dissappeared

I have Lion 10.7.4 on 2010 MBP.  I use the mail program on the Mac.  I have 20 Smart Mailboxes set up and each is working fine.  Yeterday I set 5 Smart Mailbox Folders and placed each Samrt Mailbox in the appropriate Smart Mailbox Folder.  At the end of the day i turned the MBP off.  This morning when I opened mail all my Smart Mailbox Folders were gone.  My Smart Mailboxes are still there.  Anyone else have this problem.  I am having alot of issues with Lion also.  Thanks

  • Transferring mailbox folders to new computer.

Aloha!  I recently purchased a iMac and would like to transfer all my stored email messages that are in mailbox folders created under "On My Mac" in Apple mail.  What is the easiest way to do this?
    Thanks!

You can also use programs such as Senuti or Podworks which will help you transfer all the content of the iPod to the Mac.
To prevent a sync when plugging in the iPod/iPhone - hold down the 'option' and the 'command' keys when plugging in the iPod/iPhone - key the keys down until the iPod/iPhone is listed under the Devices list in iTunes - this will prevent a sync from taking place and you will be able to change your settings.

  • Can't create New Smart Mailbox Folders

I can't create New Smart Mailbox Folders. If I go to (menu bar) Mailbox the 'New Smart Mailbox Folder' item is greyed out.
Any ideas on what the problem is, or what I could try?
I already have quite a few Smart Mailbox Folders in Mail, but if I remember correctly I created all these in Tiger & haven't made any since using Leopard (clean install).

I found the answer and it is really stupid. To ungrey the "New Smart Mailbox Folder" menu option you need to unselect any folders or mailboxes. The quickest way to do this is just click just below them, on the blue-grey bar.

  • Smart mailbox folders missing

That says it all. I created several smart mailboxes and then created several smart mailbox folders. When I close mail  and re-open, one smart mailbox folder remains and the others are gone, along with some but not all of my smart mailboxes. Any one got any ideas?

Came here looking for help with almost exactly the same problem. Made a couple of Smart Mailbox Folders yesterday (for the first time under Lion), and suddenly at some point today they're gone. Although I don't appear to have lost the 2 or 3 actual Smart Mailboxes they contained.
Thought maybe I'd imagined creating them for a moment, but took Mail into Time Machine, and there they were on all backups back to yesterday afternoon. TM will only restore actual messages I think ... so recreated the folders, but as you found, on quitting Mail and reopening, there they weren't - gone! Again!
And now, couple of hours later, I try again, just for the **** of it, and at the moment the one folder I've made appears to be staying put. Not aware of any particular difference in machine context, though clearly there must be something.
Some curiosities ... think I noticed they'd gone shortly after having a perplexing few minutes where I'd lost the Icons for my USB TM drive and a mounted DVD off the desktop, though they still displayed as mounted in Finder sidebar - nothing to do with Finder prefs, I checked and Finder was still set to display icons mounted disks; and at the same time, two particular documents (out of around 30 items) on the desktop that keep sporadically losing their positions repeated their offense. May have nothing to do with the Mail folder problem, but these are the first two head scratching moments I've had in my first 3 weeks of 10.7.3.
If anyone can shed any light on this, that'd be great.
Just getting to grips with a brand new Macbook Air, my first Intel Mac so I've leapfrogged Snow Leopard, but never had this problem with the few uses I made of Smart Mailbox Folders under Leopard.
    Andy.

  • HT5627 Does Mail (Mavericks) have any limitations for size, numer of mailboxes, folders, messages, etc.?

Does Mail (Mavericks) have any limitations for size, numer of mailboxes, folders, messages, etc. ?

Ah, so you're not considering running OS X Server here, you're running OS X client and asking about the mail client — looks like both the Apple bot that suggested that support article and I were confused.
Mavericks Mail.app does have a few flakies that I've noticed but does work.  If Mail.app gets confused, restart it and see if it's less confused.  If the accounts get confused and start tossing the password prompt, remove and re-add the accounts.  When re-adding the accounts, don't use the Internet Accounts path, use the Mail > Preferences path.
Do make a backup or two before the Mavericks upgrade, and most definitely configure and use Time Machine or some other backup tools after the upgrade.
If you do decide to go to server (which is where I'd thought this question was originally headed), then you can download everything to your own local server — that'll take some add-on software to pull the mail from your ISP, or a set of mail-forwarding rules to push the mail, and some command-line tweaks to relay the mail out (as you're probably on a DHCP dynamic residential IP address), but that'll work, too.
