Mailboxes & Messages

I have a 8310 Blackberry Curve.  I have had my Microsoft Exchange email set up for awhile with all the messages going to the 'Message' icon.  I just set up my Yahoo email account and the Yahoo mail icon appeared.  However, my Yahoo mail also goes into the Message icon inbox.  Thus combining my work and personal email into one.  Is there a way to set it up so that only my work email goes into Messages and the Yahoo mail goes into the Yahoo icon?
Appreciate any help you can provide.
Kasandra

I'm not familiar with Exchange, but I do have two personal email accounts plus a Blackberry one. There are separate folders/icons for all three of them plus a folder/icon for MESSAGES where all of them appear. I can hide the message one and only view the three separate folders or vice versa. If this isn't helpful, hang on for someone else to help you here

First thing is to forget all the complex configs and just try to schedule the report to run once now, no alerts, no notifications, no nothing.
    Does that work?
Then you can build up the schedule, to see where the problem is coming from.

  • Importing mailboxes & messages: OS 10.2.8 to 10.4.8

I've installed Tiger on my G4, with erase and install. I tried to import my old mailboxes & (archived on an external drive and a CD, from the 10.2.8 system) using the Mail import command in Tiger. In the archive Mail folder, each mail box shows there are mbox files. The import seems to work, until the last step. The old mail boxes show up in the new Mail app, under "import." However, there are no messages in the old, imported folders. Also when I quit Mail, and launch it again, all the old, imported mail boxes are gone. I've tried to do this from the archive copy on the external drive, the CD and a DVD. Nothing worked. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    You’ve omitted two important details:
    1. Which import option did you choose? It should be either Mail for Mac OS X or Other.
    2. What did you select to be imported? The right choice here would depend on the import option chosen, but I believe choosing the entire ~/Library/Mail/ folder would be wrong in both cases.
Try choosing Mail for Mac OS X as the data format, and select ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/ first, then repeat with each of the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/ account folders.

  • How to reset junk mailbox message count?

Apologies if this is resolved elsewhere, but I can't find it. For the past several months I have received several "ghost" spams per day. (There is nothing in the sender, message header, or body.) The mail filter does not catch them. I wrote a rule (based on a suggestion in this forum) where if "from" does not contain "@" it is sent to junk. It seems to work fine. Since about then - and I'm not sure if the events are simultaneous - my junk mailbox won't reset its count of messages. I have erased all messages in it and SOME are erased, with the count being reduced by 3-4. The total shown next to the mailbox icon continues to grow, however. It is now around 50. There appear to be no messages in the mailbox. This began before I upgraded to Tiger and has continued since then. Mail seems to work fine, but it is very irritating. Thanks for your help.

    Hello Michael.
Assuming this junk mailbox is for a POP type account, quit Mail first and using the Finder go to Home > Library > Mail > this account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) > Junk.mbox.
Delete the Junk.mbox folder and empty the Trash.
When re-launching Mail, a new Junk.mbox will be created automatically by Mail within the account named folder when receiving the next message that is automatically or manually marked as junk.

  • Archiving Smart Mailbox Messages

Is there a way to archive only the messages in a Smart Mailbox (alternatively, archive only selected messages).
    Thank you

Why do I need to post a comment or a follow-up before I can mark a question as answered? That's silly.

  • Smart Mailbox Message Counter

Is it possible to have a Smart mailbox in the Mailbox pane on the left side of the Mail window show the number of messages in the Smart Mailbox and not just the number of unread messages? What would be most desirable is a indication like "3/7" where the 3 indicates 3 unread messages and 7 indicates the number of all message read and unread.
    Thank you in advance.
    Jeff Cameron

I guess there is no answer. I will post this as an enhancement request with Apple.

  • Strange Mailbox messages

This is my second day with a 4s. I just finished deleting all the email, however, still in my mailbox is the following :
    (No Sender)
    (No Subject)
    This message has no content.
They are all dated 12/31/69. I am unable to highlight them or delete them. What the heck are they?

Other things to try, before removing the account and re-adding it. .
    1. remove the store.idx file from the user's directory, and then run reconstruct -r user/userid.
If the store.idx file does not get re-created, then you have not run reconstruct correctly, and that's also the reason that reconstruct -r -f didn't work for you.
    2. Open up a tech support ticket, and be ready to send us the user's mailbox, so we can see what the problem is.
    3. Open up a tech support ticket, and request the "checker" utility, which allows looking into the index files, among others.

  • Imported mailbox messages are empty

    Hi all~
So I got my computer to let me import mailboxes (with help from a nice guy at the genius bar) but now the actual messages (which is the information I need) are empty. Any ideas?
    Noreen

    Hi Cliff,
I haven't tried this on 10.6.x yet, so not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems in 10.4.x/10.5.x...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup

  • How to see users mailbox messages

I need to see messages in the users mailbox in order to delete or block some of them. There are some command to do this? because I dont want to go directory by directory in the store to see the messages.
For example in a messaging system with just sendmail I can see inside all mailboxes as root.

Sendmail doesn't truly have a "mail store", only mailbox files. You can edit those, true.
Messaging Server has a much more sophisticated "mail store". While you can also examine the files there, as text files, that's kind of un-handy.
Messaging Server does, however, provide the "proxyauth" extension to IMAP and HTTP mail access. Easiest for an admin to use is the HTTP version.
First, look at output from running
    configutil -o store.admins
this gives you the "proxyauthuser". You assigned that and the password on installation, unless you've changed it.
Second, make sure that proxyauth is turned on in webmail with
    configutil -o service.http.allowadminproxy
If it comes back, "no", "0" or "off", you will need to turn it on:
    configutil -o service.http.allowadminproxy -v yes
    and restart the http process:
    stop-msg http; start-msg http
Now, you can construct a browser url like this:
    http://dp-design.com/login.msc?user=proxuauthuser&password=password&fmt-out=text/html&proxyauth=user_to_be_checked

  • Mail Locked Mailbox Messages

I recently had a problem with sending outgoing mail, so my ISP advised me to back up my mailboxes, then delete my mail accounts and then re-add them. I did this. Then when things were working again, I wanted to get access to the messages in my inbox, so I copied my old inbox into the appropriate folder. The problem is, now, whenever I open the Mail program, it gives me this message:
The mailbox “~/Library/Mail/[email protected]@mail.iinet.com/INBOX.mbox” is currently locked by “Donna Kossy” on host “Donna-Kossys-Computer.local.”. If you open a mailbox that already is in use, you may damage its contents.
I went and checked to see if this file is locked and it is NOT. I also checked every copy of INBOX.mbox on my computer and none of them are locked.
What could be causing this? It's driving me crazy!
(BTW, I have two different accounts on my Mail program, each with the same servers, but with different names. Don't know if this has anything to do with the problem.)
    I'm using Mail version 1.2.
    Thanks much,
    Donna

    Donna,
I am getting the same only worse. I cannot now open my mail at all because every time I get the 'The mailbox...is currently locked...If you open a mailbox that is already in use, you may damage its contents" message the screen freezes and I have to reboot. Force Quit doesn't work.
I am afraid I am going to have to abandon this machine - and it is less than three years old. It freezes in all applications.

  • What is Behavior for Smart Mailbox message retention/deletion?

When (how long) do Smart Mailboxes delete their mail? Mine seem to last only a day or a week. It's impossible to tell. I don't see anywhere that I can set the preference.
    Thanks

Smart Mailboxes don't do anything to messages except list them. The messages must reside somewhere else. If the message is deleted from wherever it lives, or if it no longer satisfies the search criteria that define the Smart Mailbox, it will no longer appear. For example, suppose the Smart Mailbox specifies "unread" messages. Once the message has been read, it will not appear in that Smart Mailbox the next time it is opened.

  • Filing or Saving mailbox messages

Can a new folder/file (such as "save" or "important") be set up as a mailbox sub-account?  There doesn't appear to be any edit function for this.

If you have an IMAP account, then you can set this up on your mail server and it will appar on the iphone.
If you have a POP account, then you cannot.

  • ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException on reading mailbox message

I have a java process which reads a IMAP mail box folder with READ WRITE mode. While trying to save one of the message in the INBOX, into the data base, I came across the following error:
java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: message number (21) out of bounds (20)
          at com.sun.mail.imap.MessageCache.getMessage(MessageCache.java:132)
          at com.sun.mail.imap.MessageCache.getMessageBySeqnum(MessageCache.java:162)
          at com.sun.mail.imap.IMAPFolder.getMessageBySeqNumber(IMAPFolder.java:2809)
It happened once. So, on trying to read the same message again, I didn't face the issue. It happened only once.
Kindly, give some suggestions or thought, to understand what would have happened behind the scene.

Googling with the following phrase seems to suggest likely cause (certainly same as I guessed originally.)
    java IMAP ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException

  • Order of messages in mailboxes

The list of messges in a mailbox (Mavericks) always defaults to oldest at the top. Although I select newest first, this preference doesn't carry over to subsequent mailbox openings. Is there a way I can make Mail automatically list mailbox messages with newest at the top by default?

Jack:  How did you select or "choose the newest at the top?"
If I select the top bar, and click okn Date Received, and click the little triangle over to the right of that bar, it will save mail with the newest at the top.

  • Mailbox Behaviors - Deleting Messages

This is a simple question. And I'm fairly confident that I already have the answer, but I just wanted some clarification.
Do the options in the Mailbox Behaviors section of the Accounts tab refer to messages (and attachments) stored locally on my hard drive or on the email server? I have two POP accounts that are both set up in the Advanced section of the Accounts tab to not remove copies of messages from the email server. If the the options in the Mailbox Behaviors section do also apply to my messages stored on my email servers, then do those "delete messages after..." options override the option to not remove copies from the server? For my IMAP account, I have selected all options to store copies of messages on the email server and opted to download copies of all received messages and attachments for offline viewing. Again, do the Mailbox Behaviors options to delete old messages apply only to those stored locally on my internal hard drive or do they apply to the server or both?
I realize it sounds like I'm just splitting hairs, but I want to make sure that I'm deleting copies of messages from my hard drive but not from the vast reaches of my email server account storage spaces.

The options available under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for a POP type account are for the account's Sent, Trash and Junk mailboxes/messages which are stored locally on the hard drive. You can't store Sent, Trash or Junk messages on the server for a POP type account with any email client such as the Mail.app.
The options available under the Advanced tab for the account preferences for "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message:" refer to incoming messages or the incoming mail server for the account only.
The options available under the Mailbox Behaviors tab and the Advanced tab for a POP type account are not related and have no effect on the other.
If you have chosen to store deleted messages on the server for an IMAP type account, the options for "Permanently erase deleted messages when" apply to the server. If deleted messages are stored locally on the hard drive, the options do not apply to the server since messages marked for deletion are stored on the hard drive.
