MAILER-DAEMON shows as sender of spam

Upon checking my mail queue in Server Admin, I see about 100 messages per day that seem to be sent from my Mailer daemon to spam addresses.
Are these bounces from my mail server, or is my mail server spamming these addresses? And is there a need to stop them from going out other than manually deleting them every day?
When I click on such a particular message this is what shows up in "Message Details" window:
Message ID: 1451D4365D29
Date: Wed Jan 17 10:33:03
Size: 6086
Sender: MAILER-DAEMON
Recipient(s) & Status:
[email protected]:
connect to cashcrazymails.com[63.251.92.195]: read timeout
Thanks!
  Mac OS X (10.4.7)

These are bounces to senders of messages that have been rejected by spamassassin as spam. Because the senders address has been spoofed, your server is not finding an MX record for the domain or some other reason for postfix to queue them up for later attempt.
Your server will stop trying after 5 days and discard them. This is set by the default postfix option (in main.cf)...
bouncequeuelifetime = 5d
You can reduce this if you want but it otherwise doesn't put a lot of work on the server.

  • Mail Activity shows multiple sends for 1 send

Just a curious little bug. When I send one email, the Mail Activity panel at lower left shows anywhere from 2 to 6 emails being sent. It should show 1. Has anyone else seen this?

Try not to worry to much about that. Remember, depending on the type of network connection you have, the email client, and the size of the file, the email will not always be sent in one heap.. instead the mail program and the email host and he various servers it may go through to get the infomation to where it needs to it will chunk the infomation into multiple packets, and it will go through multiple servers before it gets to its destination. I would sugest syncronyzing your accuonts, and f you need to rebuild your inbox. But try not to worry about that to much that it shows seveal times in your activity monitor.

  • Mail-daemon error for MMS I haven't send !!!

    Hi !
Since this morning I received 2 return email (MMS) from different mail-daemon telling me that the email adress **** where "I" sent before doesn't exist anymore etc etc...
The thing is that I have no idea to who those email are and I didn't send any email(MMS)!

Anyone with the same strange behavior ?

This mail has originated outside your organization, either from an external partner or the Global Internet.
Keep this in mind if you answer this message.
it is not going to my address book because a lot of these people are not in there.  it is going to people that i emailed from years ago....and it IS connected to either my me.com email or a cox.net email - these are both connected. i'll try the password change on both of these mail accounts and see if that works.  a lot of these people are getting three and four emails every day....

  • I had an imap account in my iPad and my iPhone 4. They worked just fine till about Christmas. They act like they are checking the mail and it shows there is mail to come in, but it just goes back to saying checking mail.  Can't send mail either.

    Update to above question:
    Hello All,
To anyone with the same problem described above, on THEIR iPad (if it is running iOS 7.0.2):
Go to Settings; Mail, Contacts, Calendars; DELETE your *******@btinternet.com e-mail account, that you originally set up either using 'Other', or the 'BT' option which I am sure was in the list previous to the iOS 7 update.
Then ADD a NEW account choosing YAHOO from the list of options. DO NOT USE 'OTHER'.
Enter the correct details just as you (almost certainly) had already done in your previous attempts using 'other'.
When you see the 'verifying......' and 'the blue ticks' you should be able to exit settings and open your mail app and then receive all your 'old' e-mails again, AND be able to SEND as well.
All my 'old' e-mails, were NOT found in the 'old e-mail' folder though. THEY are still in my inbox.
So this fix worked for me.
After I deleted my account from 'OTHER' and put it in Yahoo, I like other people also ended up with more folders.
I hope this works for you on YOUR Apple devices.

  • I frequently get a MAILER-DAEMON when sending from my AOL to a Monzila user. This doesn't happen when sendin to anyone else

Sometimes when sending mail from my AOL e-mail, it will go thru to Monzila users but many times they don't. I frequently get a MAILER-DAEMON. Why?

Thunderbird is email client software. Mailer-Daemon messages come from email provider's server. Email client software cannot create such a message.

  • HT3228 My mail icon shows how many I have, but there isn't any list on the left side.  I will read your answers on another computer.   I can send OK.

My mail icon shows how many I have, but the screen is blank with no emails listed on the left side.  They used to be there.  I can send OK.
Any suggestions?  I will read replies on another computer until this is resolved.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

  • Whenever I send a single person text it shows as coming from my e-mail but when I send a group message it comes from my phone. How do I change it so it always comes from my phone number not e-mail.

Whenever I send a text to a person it shows as coming from from e-mail but when I send a group text it shows as coming from my phone? How can I change it so that all texts come from phone?

The fact that the problem only occurs when iphones are texting you leads me to think that iMessage may be the culprit. The fact that it is only iphones using SPRINT however is weird. Try turning imessage off on both yours and your sons phones to see if the problem persists. If it does, it may be a carrier problem.

  • My e-mail account is sending out spam mails; how can i delete the virus?

My e.mail account is sending out spam mails; I have got a spam virus probably during download of my e.mails over the i phone. How can i detect and delete the virus?

You do not have a virus on your Mac or iPhone.
An AOL account is accessed as an IMAP account with the Mail app or email client on your Mac, and with the iPhone's Mail app. The sent spam messages being available in the account's Sent mailbox means your AOL account has been compromised.
Change the password for your AOL email account.

If you have a backup, you can restore the e-mails. Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Library/Mail/V2.

  • Internal user sending e-mail with MailChimp identified as Suspected SPAM

Just wondering what people do when they have e-mails detected as SPAM or Suspected SPAM from spam houses like Mail Chimp.  Is it effective to just report the false positive to [email protected]?
I started down the path of adding the sender to a policy that isn't scanned for SPAM, but they use a different sender address for every e-mail.  I think looked at adding their hosts to a different policy but they have a lot and I would like to still scan their e-mail in general.
    Appreciate any input,
    Jason

    Hi Jason,
in general, it's good idea to submit false positives to [email protected] In case your settings are to send suspected Spam and positive Spam into the Spam quarantine, you can enable the checkbox in the quarantine settings to submit messages automatically to Cisco once released. I would recommended to deliver suspected Spam messages in general to users and only send Spam messages into the quarantine. Suspected Spam is merely a grey zone which means that the messages flagged at that are mostly not Spam but share some common similarities with typical Spam messages.
If the Safelist/Blocklist feature is enabled users can add senders in the safelist to ensure mails are delivered to the inboxes. Otherwise you could add the domain name with a leading dot ".example.com" into the Withelist sendergroup or any other sendergroup that still does Anti-Spam scanning, but with throttling policy applied.
    I hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Enrico
