Mailing Lists question under Nescape Messaging Server 4.15(p7)

IMS 5.2 mailing lists can have the atribute "inetMailGroupStatus". I'm using NMS 4.15(p7) and that option is not available. I'd like to know how to disable a mailing list.

Simpily removing the list from LDAP should do the trick.

Sending mail to all users in Messaging Server 5.2

Hi,
I'm trying to send mail to all the users in my mail server, but haven't been able to do it. I'm using a command called deliver which is found in /opt/iplanet/server5/bin/msg/store/bin . I've tried sending messages to all users but have been successful in sending only to one user. Got any ideas??

If you're familir with ldapmodify, you can locate the user's pab in the directory server, and remove what you find there, but, honestly, I'd talk to the user first.. . .. .
A user can work around removal of such, very easily. Any mail client, and a copy/paste will do it.

When i send a mail to the user of messaging server, it returns saying unknown user.

I am trying to add a mail user to iplanet messaging server 5.1, I am able to configure that user from my mail client (outlook) but when i send mail to that user, it returns saying unknown user. I can see that user in LDAP data base/

This could be symptomatic of the iMS 5.1 server not yet having done a full synch to its alias database of the LDAP server. This is done every 24 hours (default) at 2 or 3 am. You can synch manually by running the "imsimta dirsync -F" command.

Previously closed mail listed as new unread messages

In the past few months, my Mail program is acting strangely. Every once and a while, I will have a significant number of new messages listed in my Inbox. When I check out the latter, I find that many are old messages that have been read, dealt with and closed. Many of these messages have been filed in folders. Has anyone else faced this issue and how can one resolve or fix it. Thank you!

Yes this has been reported. I see it myself. 10.9.4 Mail is much better in this regard. Smart folders seem to update a bit slowly.
If you are not fully updated, first download and run the combo updater.

Options that might help...
If you have a large Inbox, I would archive messages older than 30 days. Search is so good in Mail you don't have to have messages in one folder to find.
Selecting Rebuild for the folder(s). It's the last item under Mailbox in the Menu bar.
Reindex Mail
With Mail quit....
Go to the User's Library folder. This folder is hidden by default. To unhide: Select the Finder in the Dock. Under Go in the Menu bar > hold down the Option key and you’ll see the Library.
• Go to Containers. Drag the com.apple.mail folder to the Trash.
• Go to Mail folder.
Select the V2 > MailData folder.
Delete any files in MailData with envelope in the name. (should be 3)
• Go to Preferences. If you find any com.apple.mail.plist files, delete these.
Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar
Log in
Open Mail.
Mail will reindex your files.

My apple mail is giving me a message "server timed out"

I recieved a message that my apple mail on port 110 timed out what does this mean and how do I troubleshoot?

Groups-Enable Group Mailing List

I just upgraded from Mac OS X 10.6.8 Server to Mac OS X 10.8.3 Server. I had an Employee Mailing List working under Mac OS X 10.6.8, but can't seem to get the new Group Mailing List to work that was created in Groups in Mac OS X 10.8.3.
When trying to send an email to the group "[email protected]" I get the message "Cannot send message using the server". I gave the group access to Mail but it still doesn't work.
Any ideas?

Yes, it works, but the Mail Overview still return Mailing Lists Stopped, and I don't know why...
This is the procedure:
- on server open terminal
- then use these commands
1) sudo touch /etc/postfix/aliases
2) sudo newaliases
3) sudo postfix reload
that's all!

Emails from another list are automatically deferred from Mailing list

I have several mailing lists setup on on a server. Most emails go through the listhost without any problems. Posts should be configured to automatically go through for all posters.
Some of these mailing lists are part of other mailing lists. If one sends an email to a mailing list, of which the server's mailing list is a member, the email will be deferred. The reason cited for deferring the email is "message has implicit destination." I have tried adding the original posters to automatically post all messages from this poster but that does not fix the problem.
I would prefer not to have any delays or waits for approval of such messages. How does one change this setting?

Check the city LOV with hardcoded value first.
Ex : select city_name from cities where country_name = 'India';
Go with below query
select city_name from cities where country_name = ':P_COUNTRY';
Also select refersh on other parameter selection in the parameter.

Messaging Server (sharing folder) searching LDAP is not indexed, why?

There's an feature of "sharing a mail folder"
in JMS (Java Messaging Server), whereby
a user could share a folder with another user.
But when a user (uid) is entered into
the "Admission List" box, and the Add button
is pressed, it failed with some error messages
Invalid user and Admin Limit exceeded.
I've asked in the JMS forum and Shane said

The "Administrative limit exceeded" error agrees with the Notes=U and etime=12 in the LDAP access log file. The problem is that the search is not indexed and therefore taking long enough to run foul of the timelimit. You will need to consult with Directory Server experts to determine why this search is not indexed and resolve that.

Go to XI server system and open the Config Tool. There, for each installed instance, a message port and message server host is mentioned. Click on any instance and u will find the required info under tab "Message Server & Bootstrapu201D.

JES2005 Q1 Administration server can't find messaging server.

When I launch the console, I can see the messaging server, but can't open it.
When I check the administration server log files, I got a
"admin40_task_access_eval(): unable to find registered server (msg-config) " error message.
Where's the administration server searching for that msg-config ?
Waht do I have to do so that I can administrate the messaging server using that administration server ?

Migrating from Netscape Messaging Server 4.15 Plug-in to iPlanet Messaging Server 5.1 Channel

Hi, there.
I wrote a custom plug-in for Netscape Messaging Server 4.15. The client for
whom I did this is now upgrading to iPlanet Messaging Server 5.1 and has
requested that I update the custom plug-in accordingly. Unfortunately, as
specified in the iPlanet migration documents, you have to re-code the
plug-in as a channel to get it to work under iPlanet Messaging Server...
I've scoured the documentation about how to go about doing this, but I don't
know how to get started as I don't know anything about writing a channel.
The plug-in processes incoming messages to see if they were sent from a
specific domain. It then adds an arbitrary signature to each appropriate
MIME part in the message before letting the messaging server relay it.
1. Can anyone direct me to some explicit directions about how to write a
channel for iPlanet Messaging Server? The documentation for Netscape
Messaging Server was extremely helpful; I haven't found anything equivalent
for iPlanet channels.
2. Channels run as daemons? Do you have to start them when the machine
boots, or are they started for you by the MTA as a result of the channel
configuration file?
3. Do channels listen with sockets on a particular port for communication?
Do I have to parse incoming data and encode outgoing data as if it was an
SMTP communication?
4. Can an SMTP channel co-exist with other SMTP channels on the same
machine? Do the channels have to listen on unique ports? (Sorry, my socket
programming is a little rusty.)

Also, if you set the smtp log level to debug do you see it initializing the plugin at startup time and also entering the plugin during the smtp-accepts?

Can't access MacSpeech iListen mailing list

I'm using Mail 2.0.5 on Mac OS X 10.4.3 using an Al PB 15" 1.67Ghz, 1GB RAM. When I try to post a message (to the list or to the owner of the mailing list), I get:
"This message was created automatically by mail delivery software (Exim).
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

SMTP error from remote mailer after RCPT TO::

However, using EarthLink Webmail in Safari, the messages I compose go through. But I can't receive messages either through Apple Mail or EarthLink Webmail (my <[email protected]> address is the one subscribed).
I thought that I might have been accidentally unsubscribed from the mailing list, but I am still on the list.
I've already contacted MacSpeech and they have confirmed the problem is not on their end. That's why I'm here...I'm not sure where to start.

I've been on their support site and they're looking into why I can't get on the lists...
I'll update when I get a response.

Messaging Server 4.15 & firewall problems.

I have Messaging Server 4.15 behind a firewall & external mail server in DMZ. My customers strongly don't want to show their internal information in
the mail headers (hosts names, iPlanet Messaging Server name...)
1. Can I change mail server info & can I remove some information (iPlanet Messaging Server version, user host name & ip) from the mail headers?
2. As far as Messaging Server 4.15 is behind a firewall, some mail servers, which check sender's domain name, can't receive my customers mails (they
can't find iPlanet Messaging Server name because it is behind a firewall). How can I solve this problem? Will the change of mail server info in mail headers help me?

Removing such information is generally frowned upon by the community. By altering such information you could prevent mail from being delivered successfully.
As for point 2 even if your hosts are behind a firewall there should be public DNS records for them. It usually can be something generic like h-10.0.0.1.domain.com so that no real information is given away but other hosts on the internet can determine who you are.
