Maill.app + 'ö'-character within a domain name

Hello other users,
I've registered a new Domain which is includung an umlaut character (in this case: 'ö'). I can create an e-mail account in my provider's members area. But if i try to use this e-mail account in latest Mail.app software, it can't connect to the mailserver. Do I have to take notice of something I didn't care about?
Can i solve the Problem withg using the ACE string? But I even didn't solve it this way.
May someone help me, please?
Special thanks to all of you, who can help me with my problem.
Greetings,
hansonis

Hansonis,
Welcome to the Discussions.
Since domain names did not originally allow such characters, I have not read anything about their use, and Mail. I will try to do some research, and perhaps alert a friend in Germany, who might know more about this. For some background I have read, see:
http://www.verisign.com/information-services/naming-services/internationalized-d omain-names/page_002201.html
which does not list Apple's Mail program as IDN enabled. See also:
http://www.idnnow.com/index.jsp
and
http://www.norid.no/regelverk/forslag/idn-2003/2003-02-18.en.html
Maybe I will find something else.

  • App cannot perform domain name resolution

I have an app that connects to a remote server and pulls files via FTP. The code was just modified to connect to the server using a domain name rather than the direct IP. Unfortunately it doesn't work anymore. I get

For some reason the domain name is not get resolved... or something along those lines. I am able to perform a manual nslookup on that server. How does an app go about resolving domain names? What other environment related variables can possibly cause this problem?
    Thanks

nslookup succeeds, but do other commands (like 'getent hosts xxx' or 'ping xxx')?
If your /etc/nsswitch.conf is misconfigured, then the system will not use DNS, but 'nslookup' could still succeed.

  • Question about Mail app and domain name please help

    Hi,
I wasn't sure where to post this question so figured this would be the best area. I have a website which uses bluehost as it's web hoster. My email is set up through them, such as [email protected]
In my Mail app, I have the POP thing set up so when ever someone emails me it goes right to the Mail app. It works great for my personal computer, but when I go to work and go on other computers is where the problem is.
When I am on a random computer at work, I have to sign onto my webhosting site and then use squirrel mail. It is quite a hastle and is not the best. I would love to use gmail, but still keep my domain name I have.
One co-worker mentioned just forwarding all my [email protected] emails to my new gmail email. There are issue's with doing this because if I'm at work and email someone with gmail it will use that email address. Also, I want to be able to read all my sent messages from any computer including the sent messages that were within my Mail app. Is this possible?
Besides forwarding is there a better solution? It is sort of hard to explain. Basically I want my [email protected] address to be run through gmail, be able to access on any computer, have it be the only address in my mail app, and most importantly have the sent messages from mail app to be able to be read on all computers.
I think gmail lets you make a domain name email, without gmail being included at the end. But I already have the email address made...am I able to just swap it? And keep all my mail inbox info?
What's the best sollution for my problem?
    Thanks

You would need to login to your web mail account to reply so that the email came from "[email protected]"
I try to get a gmail address that is close to the domain name like - [email protected] - so that I don't have to bother opening web mail as it is a pain.
I forward to Gmail and then Mac Mail because their spam blocker is the best.
A lot of web mail addresses bounce mail because the capacity is limited and the owners don't go into their control panel to launch their web mail and clear out the old stuff. Lawyers, in particular, are famous for this. For this reason I don't set web mail to keep a copy of the forwarded mail. If my web mail gets full of spam and they start bouncing then its not my problem!

  • Domain name within iweb & hosting

*I recently purchased a domain name for a site that I will be working on.*
*There are two things that I would like to do:*
*1. Host the web site on my mac which is running OS X 10.5.6*
*2. Use iWeb '09 to develop the site*
*I would like to know how to go about hosting the site off my mac without having to run OS X 10.5 server.*
    and
*How to set my registered domain (.com) address within iweb so when I publish the site it will only contain the domain name of the site in the URL field.*

  • Domain name setup with iWeb 09, MobileMe & Google Apps.

I purchased a domain (http://tinyurl.com/5v3m3bs) via google, I am hosting the site on my MobileMe (http://tinyurl.com/5vt9qr8) space & am using iWeb09 to edit the website but for the life of me I cannot mask forward using Google Apps from my domain to my MobileMe site.  I have read several articles related to this and seems very confusing.
Can someone please guide me step-by-step to achieve this?
    Regards

To set up web forwarding with masking, all you need do is log into your account at your domain name registrar's and then go to the web forwarding section.  Once in web forwarding enable masking and then forward your domain name to web.me.com/username/sitename and that is all you need do.
Do remember though that if you have already entered your domain name into your MobileMe account under the personal domain name settings and have set up CNAME forwarding, then you cannot have masked web forwarding as well.
You need to do one or the other, but NOT both.  Decide what you want and what is more important to you and set this up - if you want masking then just follow the steps above and mask and forward your domain name to web.me.com/username/sitename - you need to be more specific with this.

  • Is the Oracle apps R12 can be installed with domain name like xyz .co.nz

    Dear all,
    I am installing R12 on Linux AS-4
I need to know the Oracle apps can be installed with domain name like <xyz>.co.nz on Linux AS-4 environment.
if so please discuss anything other than normal procedure I have to take care?
Till now I have installed much with Domain name as <xyz>.com
    Thanks and regards
    Vasu

If your domain name has two characters, then you may run into the Microsoft IE 6 bug "Internet Explorer Does Not Set a Cookie for Two-Letter Domains" described in Microsoft article Q310676. The fix for this issue is described in the Microsoft article.
Internet Explorer does not set a cookie for two-letter domains
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310676
Apart from the above, you should not have any issue.

  • Domain Name Purchase for SharePoint Apps

I am having some difficulty wrapping my head around this and are hoping someone can help me with this.
I am setting up a development environment (1 wfe and 2 db servers mirrored) and some articles are telling me to purchase a domain name for the app store, and some articles are saying that you can use a sub-domain (although less secure). I am interested in
knowing what the majority of people are doing when setting up the app store in a development environment.
If anyone has any experience with this, I would be grateful to hear from you.
    Regards
    Kim

If you are developing internally then you don't need to buy a domain name, you can just direct traffic to your App domain using DNS.
It's very odd to have a mirrored SQL environment for development, unless you need to test failover it's probably unrequired.

  • Accessing WAN domain name within my LAN

Hmmm, I'm not sure if that Subject was very helpful.
I have a home LAN with several computers, including a laptop that goes with me to work. My desktop hosts a number of services (IMAP, SSH, HTTP, etc). I use dyndns.org to point to my home LAN, and my router uses port forwarding to point those services to the desktop.
When I'm in my LAN, I reach my desktop by using its local IP address (i.e., 192.168....); when I'm outside my LAN, I reach the desktop using the domain name.
Since I use my laptop at home and on the road, I need to do annoying things like change Mail.app's server settings everytime I change location.
Surely there's a better way. Any suggestions?

I didn't catch what OS the desktop system is running, but configuring bind/named is pretty well documented and not a major task. In my opinion, you're just front-loading all the work at one time rather than messing around with changing your mail application settings.
If you decided to go that route later, search for "caching name server" and set that up. Then simply add a zone file for the domain you're looking to override on the local network and you're pretty much done.
I don't know how you retrieve your mail, but if IMAP is an option, you might want to consider using separate mail programs and use IMAP as the method in which you retrieve mail. IMAP assures the clients will be in sync, and you simply configure Mail for one location and another mail client, like Thunderbird or Entourage, for another location. Kludgy, inelegant, but it works because I've used that solution myself. If IMAP isn't available, you can probably get by with POP3 and tell the mail clients to leave the mail on the server. Mail and Thunderbird do a fair job of keeping things sync'd, although IMAP is much more preferable.

Have you checked your web cache log files for errors? Also check the %ORACLE_HOME%\opmn\log directory as there are many log files which can be helpful resolving your issue.

  • How to Get Host Name Domain Name : Port No. for App Server From Forms

    Forms 10g r2
I am looking to run various forms and reports from within a form. I am using web_show_document. I am passing the URL which includes "http://{host name . domain name : port number}/forms/frmservlet?config=schema1_schema2 form=ab0001 p_param1=151 p_param2=1409 p_x=X". My schema1_schema2 config section in formsweb.cfg contains user name, password, connection information.
All works well when the actual host_name.domain_name:port_no are hard-coded within a string that is used for the URL with web_show_document, but I need to be able to distribute the form without hard-coding the host_name, domain_name, and port_no.
I have looked in forms help for application properties, system variables, and within this forum for the built-in or system variable that returns this information, but have not found it.
Can someone please tell me how I can get this information (host_name, domain_name, and port_number for the application server on which the form is currently running) so that I can build this working URL dynamically?
I appologize if I have overlooked it within this forum.
    Thanks greatly,
    James

    Thanks, Rosario.
As it turns out, I don't need the IAS Host_Name, Domain_name, and Port_No. Instead, I can do what I described by stripping off precisely THAT information leaving a URL that looks like:
    v_url := "/forms/frmservlet?config=schema1_schema2 form=ab0001 p_param1=151 p_param2=1409 p_x=X";
    WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT(v_url,'_blank');
The original IAS Host_Name, Domain_Name, and Port_No. are assumed and the named config -- schema1_schema2 is still properly referenced so as to use the username/password and connect string to the 2nd schema. This is done by use of the relative path.

  • Domain name to access within the LAN

    Friends !
Let me know how can I create a domain name (like : www.myapp.com) so that it can be accessed from within the LAN.

Sorry - forgot the "LAN" part. You need to set up a DNS server or something. But this is completely unrelated to Java.

  • Domain name deletion within Business Catalyst

I am trying to add a domain name to a website created with Muse and hosted through Business Catalyst, but I am receiving this error meassage 'Domain already exists. Please delete all records associated with the domain before re-adding it'. Anbody know how to do this please? The domain I need to use was used in a previous website which had a single, monthly Business Catalyst hosting subscription, and I now need to add this domain name to the website I am hosting through the included sites provided with the Creative Cloud monthy subscription.

Move from the Creative Cloud to the Business Catalyst forum. They will be able to help you here.

  • IronPort WSA with Authentication unable to access 2 character domain names with 2 character TLDNs

I've discovered an issue requiring user authentication and some of the short url sites likes e2.ma will not load in Internet Explorer explicitly configured to go through an IronPort WSA. In testing with bogus domains (a.to, aa.to) it seems the issue is if the domain name is 1-2 characters and the top level domain name is also 2 characters long. Longer domains (aaa.to) work and return an IronPort error for DNS_FAIL. Does anyone know of a workaround to not have to allow all these as unauthenticated destinations?

Support pointed me towards that KB article as well, but it is for IE 5 (and fixed in IE 6), but IE 8+ uses a TLD list from Microsoft (visible by using res://urlmon.dll/ietldlist.xml) and I don't control the external website. I'm going to try using an IP address surrogate instead of session cookies for these domains and see if that resolves this.
