Mailto Contact Form

I have simple contact form on my HTML website that i would like to convert to Flash. I tried a couple of ways to code my button (i look up tutorials online) but nothing is working. Like its not recognizing my variables...
This is the code im using:
on (release) {
getURL("mailto:[email protected]?subject=Comments" + "&body=" + body + "&firstName" + firstname + "&lastName=" + lastName + "&age=" + age + "&email=" + email + "&how=" + how + "&comments=" + comments);
It keeps giving me an undefined error. Is this duable or do i absolutely have to have a php script and code my button with php?
Thanks!

So i finally found my problem. Since i was following a tutorial i found online, i started on the wrong path from the beginning. So, first off, make sure to use Text Input from the Components panel and NOT drawn text boxes that you set to Text Input
Then your action code should look like something like this:
submitBTN.onRelease = function() {
getURL("mailto:[email protected]?subject=Comments" + "&body=" + "First Name: " + firstName.text + "%0ALast Name: " + lastName.text + "%0AAge: " + age.text + "%0AEmail: " + email.text + "%0AHow: " + how.text + "%0AComments: " + comments.text, "", "POST");
The %0A adds a break between each answer so that it doesnt all show up on one line in the email.
The 'firstName', 'lastName', etc is the instance names you give to your Input boxes.
The '.text' represent what kind of component you are using!
Hopefully this will help others who are/were as confused as i was!!!

  • DW CS5, Sending contact form results to email with page redirection using php script

    I am currently building a site from scratch with Dreamweaver, with the intent of replacing my current website layout that was designed using Intuit's website builder. My dreamweaver site is not online, but i have setup a local test server on my computer, using XAMPP, and i have an apache server with a MySQL database and a mercury mailserver running. I mention that in case it makes a difference in your answers. If necessary, I can include those settings, but that may be asking too much.
    I have an html contact form for users to schedule service appointments. I need the resulting actioned php file to do the following after submit is clicked: verify certain fields have been entered; prevent spammers or verify human visitors; send the form results to a (hidden from public view of any kind) email address; redirect user to a confirmation page, or an error page.
    I found the following code but being less than a newbie im not sure what needs to be changed, or if its even the right script i should be using:
    5 <?php
    6 $email = $_POST['email'];
    7 $mailto = '[email protected]';
    8 $mailsubj = 'You Have a Service Request';
    9 $url = '/MyLandingPage.html';
    10 $req = '0';
    11 $mailbody = "Results from form:\r\n";
    12 $space = ' ';
    13 $line = '
    14 ';
    15 foreach ($_POST as $key => $value)
    16 {
    17 if ($req == '1')
    18 {
    19 if ($value == '')
    20 {echo "$key is empty";die;}
    21 }
    22 $j = strlen($key);
    23 if ($j >= 20)
    24 {echo "Name of form element $key cannot be longer than 20 characters";die;}
    25 $j = 20 - $j;
    26 for ($i = 1; $i <= $j; $i++)
    27 {$space .= ' ';}
    28 $value = str_replace('\r\n', "$line", $value);
    29 $conc = "{$key}:$space{$value}$line";
    30 $text .= $conc;
    31 $space = ' ';
    32 }
    33 mail($emailadd, $subject, $text, 'From: '.$emailadd.'');
    34 echo '<META HTTP-EQUIV=Refresh CONTENT="0; URL='.$url.'">';
    35 ?>
    Can anyone please illuminate me on what I need?
    Thank You in advance

    You are doing this with your local testing server, is it set up to email?

  • Contact form without PHP Help!

    I'm trying to create a contact form to send an email to me
    when they click on the submit button. I'm using the "getUrl and
    Mailto). It works when I set the variables manually, but I can't
    get it to store the value of the user input fields to use in my
    message body.
    This has got to be a simple matter of syntax or placement of
    the var function. Please forgive me for being such a newbee!
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    I don't think you're going to have any luck processing a contact form without the support of some server-side scripting that is capable of interacting with the server.

  • Site messed up after adding Contact form.

    The site is online in its current state: http://www.wientjesvoegwerk.nl/index.html
    The site uses (X)HTML, JAVA, PHP and Spry tabbed panels with a CSS layout.
    The current state has:
    <?php include("mail.php"); ?>
    Before the Doctype, etc.
    <?php $xajax->printJavascript('xajax/'); ?>
    In the header.
    But adding:
    <?php echo '<div id="contact_result">'.$form.'</div>'; ?>
    to the div where i want to put the mailing form results in problems...
    If i add that last line my footer will go up to the header. and i dont know why...
    The new code from the form that messes up the site is marked in red.
    The HTML:
    <?php include("mail.php"); ?>

    THE BIG PROBLEMS:
    1. Adding the form to a div (into content div of Spry tabbed panels) results in wrong apearance.
         Footer is put to top.
    2. Adding the form to a div results in broken functions.
         Buttons in the Spry tabs dont work anymore.
    3. Java is messed up.
         in top screen you read:  printJavascript('xajax/'); ?>
         in lower screen in content div:  test2 test3 (text from the 2nd and 3rd Content area of Spry, just so its filled with something) and  '.$form.'  '; ?>
    SOLUTIONS ASKED:
    1. Please help me with the contact form so it will work on my page and no error remains. Im not that good in Java...
    2. Please help me solving the problem with the footer. I dont have any clue anymore why this happens. And why no problems occur without the mail form.
    3. Can anyone tell me why the buttons also lose function? It looks like a similar problem as the footer.
    In short: HELP!

    Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I must honestly say im a hobby programmer that has the capability to learn fast.
    A few weeks ago i only knew html, actionscript, etc. I never worked with xhtml, javascript, css, etc. untill now.
    But with some help i managed to resolve ALL problems so far, exept 2...
    My site has no errors anymore all files are validated 100%!
    The only 2 problems now are;
         1.     The use of <li> for Spry tabs. They make the buttons have a dot in front of them. I hope this can be changed into something that removes the
                 list dots/numbers.
    So from this:
    button
    to this:
    button
         2.     I like to use this email form from: http://www.webbyzone.com/2010/01/10/make-xajax-phpmailer-contact-forms-work/
    The code is embedded in my site but doesnt work at all. Please take a look at it...

  • Spry Contact Form doesn't show all the information on email

    Hi there,
    So I have created a contact form with the spry text fields.
    The text fields are:
    Name
    Email
    Message
    Onced tested the email shows:
    Name     : [email protected]
    Email     :  (blank)
    Message: (blank)
    So The two issues is that is shows the email shows under name and the email and message sections dont show any infomation at all.
    Link is here
    Thanks in advance
    Ash

    The best way is to have no separate action page and lump the whole lot into one document.
    The following is an example of this
    <?php
    if(isset($_POST['Email'])) {
        // EDIT THE 2 LINES BELOW AS REQUIRED
        $email_to = "[email protected]";
        $email_subject = "Your email subject line";
        function died($error) {
            // your error code can go here
            echo "We are very sorry, but there were error(s) found with the form you submitted. ";
            echo "These errors appear below.<br /><br />";
            echo $error."<br /><br />";
            echo "Please go back and fix these errors.<br /><br />";
            die();

  • Flash / PHP Contact Form

    Hello,
    I am setting up a flash site (well trying too)  and decided to get a Flash  template of Template Monster so I could work on it, I have the site up  and all but the contact form is not working properly. The problem is the Actionscript dosen't  seem to work with the contact.php file that came in the template pack and  when I contacted them it was of no help, I was just refered me to their help  pages which showed I just had to insert my email address after rec="??????" and it would work. The actionscript is;
    rec="[email protected]";
    serv="php";
    var fields_descriptions= Array ("",
    Array("t1", "your_name", "Your Name:"),
    Array("t2", "your_address", "Your Address:"),
    Array("t3", "phone", "Telephone:"),
    Array("t4", "message", "Message:"),
    Array("t5", "your_email", "E-mail:"),
    Array("t6", "field_3", "Address:"),
    Array("t7", "field_4", "fax:")
    function reset_txt(name,name2,value) {
    path=eval(_target);
    path[name2]=value;
    this[name].onSetFocus=function() {
    path=eval(_target);
    if(path[name2]==value) { path[name2]="";}
    this[name].onKillFocus=function() {
    path=eval(_target);
    if(path[name2]=="") { path[name2]=value;}
    for (i=1; i<=fields_descriptions.length; i++) {
    reset_txt("t"+i, fields_descriptions[i][1], fields_descriptions[i][2]);
    And the contact.php file has the following script;
    <?php
    $your_name = $_GET['your_name'];
    $your_address = $_GET['your_address'];
    $phone = $_GET['phone'];
    $your_email = $_GET['your_email'];
    $message = $_GET['message'];
    $headers .= 'Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1';
    $content = "<html><head><title>Contact letter</title></head><body><br>";
    $content .= "Company: <b>" . $your_company . "</b><br>";
    $content .= "Name: <b>" . $your_name . "</b><br>";
    $content .= "Phone: <b>" . $your_phone . "</b><br>";
    $content .= "E-mail: <b>" . $your_email . "</b><br><hr><br>";
    $content .= $your_message;
    $content .= "<br></body></html>";
    mail("[email protected]","New enquiry from website",$content,$headers);
    ?>
    <html>
    <body bgcolor="#282E2C">
    <div align="center" style="margin-top:80px;color:#FFFFFF;font-size:16px;font-family:Tahom a;font-weight:bold">
    Your message was sent to <br> East Coast Computer Services <br>We will be in contact with you soon. Thank you.
    </div>
    </body>
    </html>
    I do get email from the form in Outlook but the problem is it has no content just blank fields, see below:
    From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]
    Sent: 24 March 2011 23:10
    To: [email protected]
    Subject: New enquiry from website
    Company:
    Name:
    Phone:
    E-mail:
    I  haven't got a breeze about Flash or PHP, I just know a small bit from  using Dreamweaver. Would you know what is preventing the form from  working, I know it something to do with Arrays but what do I change in the PHP file so I start to receive information in the contact form? Thank you in advance.
    Kevin

    kglad,
    The actionscript calls the PHP form but dosen't post any information, it loads in the browser and I get the email but nothing in it?
    I'm just looking for the correct Actionscript to paste into flash and hopefully get it working. Thanks for the help.

    greetings everyone -
    thank  you for your quick replys - i reviewed and did some digging .....
    to answer some of your Qs:
    J Carp:  thanx for noting the blank between""   i found a contact.php file and added "[email protected]" between the "" so it would point to the PHP script that processes the form.
    M summers: the forms code is in php for the contact forms subscription.  index html for the main page and contact.php for form part
    Nancy O - not sure i understand this fully "
    "mailto: links only work on devices that have dedicated e-mail software installed on them.  If the end user doesn't have e-mail software, the mailto link does nothing.".... "
    Best practice is to use a form-to-email processing script that hides your address from robots and has spam prevention built in.
    Contact your web host.  Many hosts provide scripts on their servers which you can activate through your Admin Panel or by referencing the script in your form's action attribute.
         <form action="path-on-server/form-to-email-script.php">"
    BUT it helped me to see that i had to dig and look for other files that needed editing. thanx
    i have done testing from different browsers on different computers for the contact form send/submit page and it is working so far.
    thank you all for this information - it all has helped. i will be reviewing the email "mailto" href link now to see if that works....

    Most of the time McAfee SiteAdvisor gets it right but it's not perfect. It's possible there is something suspicious on your site but if you think everything is ok request a review:

  • Creating Contact Forms

    Hi
    The server I use uses cgi-bin scripts.....basically I just
    want to create a simple contact form using DW....i thought it was
    fairly simple but i cant seem to find a good tutorial on this.
    I dont want the mailto: solution, that seems a crappy way to
    do it.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Ask your host what they provide for processing forms.

  • Contact form for iweb?

    Im just starting to play with the new iweb 08. The contact links are just simple mailto links. Is there a way to add a contact form? Mailto links tend to attract a lot of spam.
    Thanks

    I have used some of the forms from Form Logix...
    http://www.formlogix.com/CreateWebForms.aspx
    They have a wide variety and are very easy to use. The downside is that you are required to have their logo on them - to offset the cost of the free email service I guess.
    This method of getting form information is a lot quicker than setting up your own form mail on a server. You can direct the replies to any email account on your Mac.

  • Contact form check boxes will not work on a Tablet

    Hi there,
    I created a website (Desktop) and a mobile version (Phone).  I did not create one for a tablet but have relied on the Desktop version if someone views it on a Tablet.
    Here's the thing, I created a contact form with checkboxes.  It works great on a desktop (because people check the boxes with their mouse), however, it doesn't work on a Tablet, when you try and check the boxes with your finger.
    Help!

    Please share the site URL.

  • Changed Outlook Contact Form back to IPM.Contact - now I can't save contact in Public Folder

    I recently changed the Contact form that we were using back to the default IPM.Contact. I did this so that it  would be consistent for only a few of us had a custom contact template to use and it made it difficult to share contact information. After
    changing the contact default back to IPM.Contact and changing all the contacts to reflect the default Message class, no can add a contact to the Public Folder contact file. I have tried several different setting for the permsion. Publishing Author, Publish
    Editor, Owner, it still gives the error
    The item cannot be saved to this folder. The folder was deleted, or you do not have permission. Do you want to save a copy of it in the degfualt folder for the item.
    When I changed the form back to IPM.Contact  i ran the omglass.exe to change it on all the contacts in the public folder.
    Please advise for no contacts can now be added to our company contact list

    Hi,
    Please right-click this public folder, click Properties. In the General tab, make sure the field of "When posting to this folder, use" is set to IPM.Contact.
    Please restart Outlook with Outlook /checkclient switch(Start > Run > type Outlook /checkclient and enter) to have a try. If it fails, please create a new Outlook profile to have a try:

  • Contact form-checkbox PHP coding doesnt work

    I am a beginner to web page design so i would be grateful if you can explain to me what PHP coding i would need for 'Checkbox' and where to place it in the PHP coding below. I can submit the form to my email with all the headings and the filled in forms with checkbox Yes or No.
    Only problem i have is that part of the check box info appear right at the top of the email message rather than the 'Name', 'Tel', 'Email' etc..Another half of the checkbox appear where it suppose to be wih double heading as shown below. I would also like to remove the <br> from the email message. Can you also tell me how to change the colour for heading so its clear.
    I have marked the checkbox code in BLUE for both HTML and PHP coding below. Sorry for the long coding. Look forward to hearing from someone. Much appreciated.

    Dear David
    Thank you so much for the clear explanation. I have been using Lynda.com Dreamweaver CS5 tutorial. I found the coding for checkbox through search and added to the coding from Lynda.com tutorial.
    I made few changes to the coding by removing:
    $msg = "$rearExt<br>\r\n$sideExt<br>\r\n$twoStoreyRear<br>\r\n
              $twoStoreySide<br>\r\n$loft<br>\r\n$newBuild<br>\r\n$flat<br>\r\n$other\r\n";
    as the email message shows the results from the checkbox twice.
    I also removed the <br> from:
    $body = "Name: $name<br>\r\n
              Email: $email<br>\r\n
              Contact No: $contact_number<br>\r\n
             Other: $other\r\n
              Message:\r\n
                $message";
    I have add the result and the PHP coding you have helped to fixed for anyone needing a working PHP code containing Text Fields, Drop Down List, Checkbox and Text Area. Many thanks for all your help. If you have a coding to change the heading text colour I very much appericate it.

    Making the HTML form is easy but the form processing script which collects data & sends it to your email is not quite so simple.   Start with your web host.  Ask them if they have form-to-email processing scripts you can use.  If they don't, find out which scripts your hosting plan supports (php, asp, asp.net, perl, coldfusion, etc...)

  • Contact Form (php)  - how to prevent new window...

    My contact form works just fine, however, I currently have
    the target set to "_blank" which is not what I want.
    Rather than opening the .php file open in a new window, I
    just want to go to a new frame (labeled "success" or "error")
    within my flash file (which currently works fine)
    So, my question is how do I send the form information to my
    php file WITHOUT having to open a new window outside of my flash
    file since I'm sending the user to new frame instead.
    FYI: I've already tried removing "_blank" but it still opens
    the php file in a new browser window.
    My code below:
    on (release){
    var my_lv:LoadVars = new LoadVars();
    my_lv.fullName = fullName_txt.text;
    my_lv.email = email_txt.text;
    my_lv.emailMessage = emailMessage_txt.text;
    if(fullName_txt.text != "" && email_txt.text != ""
    && emailMessage_txt.text != "") {
    my_lv.send("contact.php","_blank","POST");
    gotoAndStop("success");
    else {
    gotoAndStop("error");
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Yvonne

    Thanks for your help, Zupko.
    I tried your suggestion but I'm still experiencing the same
    problem. A new window still opens. Perhaps I'm doing something
    wrong?
    My code with your suggestion below:
    on (release){
    var my_lv:LoadVars = new LoadVars();
    my_lv.fullName = fullName_txt.text;
    my_lv.email = email_txt.text;
    my_lv.emailMessage = emailMessage_txt.text;
    if(fullName_txt.text != "" && email_txt.text != ""
    && emailMessage_txt.text != "") {
    loadVariables("contact.php","POST");
    gotoAndStop("success");
    else {
    gotoAndStop("error");
    Your help is very much appreciated!
