'mailto' links no longer open a new message

Hi,
Since I upgraded to Lion I no longer get a new message with a pre-filled address when I click a mailto link on a webpage.  Is there a way to get this functionality back?  Also, when I click the Mail icon in the dock I no longer get taken to my inbox.  I have to either remember to open it via the icon on the right side of the dashed line on the dock, or, after clicking the Mail icon, go to the Window item in the menubar.  Weird.
Mike

I don't know when this problem was introduced but when I click a mailto link in firefox it opens a new copy of evolution rather than opening a new mail message.
It use to work fine but doesn't now. As I don't use the functionality much I don't know if this is a recent thing or has only just started happening.
    Versions are:
    firefox 1.5.0.7
    evolution 2.6.3
    Any ideas?

  • File/send link will not open Outlook New Message, but tries to open a whole new browser window in Outlook

When firefox updated to 3.5, on my xp desktop, the send link option under File, and the send link extension both stopped working completely. I used tools/options/applications/browse to try to direct it to Outlook and now it is attempting to open a whole new session of Outlook in browser mode, rather a new message with the link in it that I wish to send. It is also giving me an error message that the "default mail client is not properly installed. (Send Link in Internet Explorer works just fine."
    == This happened ==

Some [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/236694 report being able to fix this by running Detect and Repair on MS Office]. Perhaps changing the default in XP's "Set Program Access and Defaults" to something else, then back to Outlook will help.

  • Clicking on a link no longer opens a new tab with Firefox 17.0.1 update of today

New tab on clicking link opened earlier today but not since Firefox updated itself to 17.0.1. When I click on a link, the page just jumps, but the new tab doesn't open. It will open if I right click the link, which I shouldn't have to do. How can I (or can I) unflub this bug? Thanks

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

  • Mailto: links no longer opening email address

    hi there,
something seems to have happened and i'm trying to troubleshoot whether this is a flash problem, a browser configuration problem, or what... but the simple "mailto:" function for email addresses that i used to use all of the time, no longer works. here's a sample page: http://www.veronicamarch.com/ if you click on "contact" and then click one of the mail addresses, nothing happens. i'm using adobe flash CS6, and the actionscript code that i have in on a button symbol is as follows:
    on (release) {
      getURL("mailto:[email protected]");
very simple. it used to work ALL. THE. TIME. not sure what the problem is now, any insight? much appreciated.
    thanks,
    denise

thanks for checking! after numerous tests, i've realized that it must be because i have gmail set as my default email client. so... although gmail recognizes html text links, flash not so much. at least i can stop driving myself crazy with the flash file!

I assume you have tried toggling the setting in Firefox between Outlook and, say, Gmail:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Applications
In the search box, type or paste '''mailto''' and pause for the list to filter.
Change the setting and OK to save it, then return to the dialog, change back, and OK again.
You also might want to toggle the setting at the OS level between Microsoft Outlook and the native Windows Mail client in a similar fashion. In Windows XP you could use IE's Options dialog, Programs tab, for this, but I'm not sure in Windows 7.
Since one possibility is a problem in your Firefox settings (including the possibility of interfering add-ons), and another is a problem at the Windows level (e.g., Registry settings), it would be useful to try to identify which one it is. One quick way to distinguish is to create a new Firefox profile. It will start up with all factory settings. You can switch back to your existing profile after testing.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
After closing Firefox, start up again in the Profile Manager as described in this article: [http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles Managing profiles].
With the new profile, can Firefox successfully create a message in Outlook?

  • Safari 6.0 crash when right clicking a link and choosing open in new tab

Hi all,  just a general question.  I admit i did not search the forums yet.  Hopefully this little annoyance can be resolved.
When using safari on say CNN.COM i'll right click on a link and choose Open in new tab.  safari randomly disappears.  no crash warnings,  just gone.  I can open it right up and be fine sometimes all day.   This has happened to me about 5x since ML was released (i wiped my laptop the day it came out)
This has happened on a couple of different website at different times of the day.  only safari was running. No other apple apps have this issue.
I have a MacBook Pro from earily '08 type 4,1
i have only apple software on this machine
i do have adobe flash installed v11.3 updated today.
    i do have lastpass enabled
    i do have ad-block disabled
While i'm waiting for help from you guys i'll disable all addon's and try to remove adobe to see if that is the issue.  Is there any other steps i can try like delete .plist file or maybe even trying a new user profile.  I am a IT professional and am not afraid to get my hands dirty trying to get this resovlved.
    Thanks in advance.
P.S. i'll search the forums too and if i see a similar post i'll remove this one.
    Bill Siegfried.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
    Step 1
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Mailto links as cc instead of new mail

    Explanation:
I have an Email A which contains email-addresses (not in CC of mail A, but in the body of A)
I need to write an email B to all of those, or some of those mail addresses. But if I click them, a new mail is being opened for every single mail address.
For now, I need to copy&paste it from the new mail into the "cc mail", which is stupid. So I need a solution, that puts mail addresses in CC rather then a new mail.
    Any Ideas?

re ;if I click them, a new mail is being opened for every single mail address.
Yes thats is correct because you invoked a 'mailto' link to open a new message to send to a specific email address which auto uses TO to send to the one selected email address.
If you added those emaill addresses to your address book then you could use the Contacts sidebar to select your contacts and then use the 'Addto Cc' button option. Those contacts would then be available to quickly use on another occasion.
right click on email address and select 'Add to address book'.
By default this will add them to the 'Personal Address book'.
If you use the addon MoreFunctionsForAddressBook, this will also allow you to choose which address book, otherwise you would need to manually move the contact via Address Book.

You should now have a mailto: option in the Applications panel.

  • Is there a way to 'Force all Links to be opened in New Tabs ' like Maxthon browser?

Is there a way to get Firefox to 'Force all Links to be opened in New Tabs, like Maxthon browser does ? I really like this Maxthon feature but hate Maxthon as it has always has and continues to lock up all the time (what a pain!!)
Hoping Firefox can do this. By the way I know if you right click a link and ask for it to open in a new tab it will. I want it to be automatic.
    Thank you

    Question already asked and answered.
I gave an AppleScript and an other helper described a scheme relying upon standard features.

  • Click web link doesn't open a new tab

Before whenever I click on a web link, FF always open a new tab for me. I just recent rebuilt my PC and upgraded FF to 13.0. Now no matter what I change in Options, it only opens the link on my current web page. I know I can do Right-Click but I am just used to this. I found others were having the same issue but they were on much lower version of FF and I don't have any mentioned Add-on installed.

I don't think there is a setting to open all links in a new tab. You can set all links that would normally open in a new window to open in a new tab instead. And like you said you can right-click and select open in a new tab. Also if you click a link to another website from an App Tab it will open in a new tab.
I did find [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=open%2Blinks%2Bin%2Ba%2Bnew%2Btab&platform=windows&appver=13.0&page= these add-ons] that might help.

  • Entourage open from dock opens a new message screen. If I open it from the application window it open to my inbox as normal. Just since upgrading to Mavericks.

Since upgrading to Mavericks, when I open Entourage from the dock it opens the program and opens a new message window. Very annoying. If I open it from the application folder it opens to my inbox like it always has. Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Dave

the problem has been solved for me following the process :
    1 -close entourage
    2 - start and follow the complete reconstruction of the entourage database ;
3 - in the "entourage" menu, disable "office reminds" or "office recall" (i don't know the exact name because my entourage is in french)
For me it has worked. when i click on the dock entourage shortcut it opens without showing the new message windows at start.

  • I can't open a new tab unless I right click a link and hit "open in new tab"?

I can't open a new tab unless I right click a link and hit "open in new tab."
I click ctrl+t, click the new tab button, right click the tab bar and hit "new tab", and even click "File" and hit "New Tab", but it still won't open a tab!
This has been going on for a week!
I know it may not seem like too much of a problem since I can still open a tab, but it's terribly inconvenient that I can only open one by clicking a link.

The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

Why does right clinking on link and selecting open in new tab does not work?
It opens up a blank page. The only way to make the link work is to click on the navigation bar in the new tab and press enter to reload the link.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?<br/> ''A troubleshooting mode.''<br />
1.You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut. <br />
