Main account missing dock, but new account works
Here's the situation...
I restarted my computer today (with no updates being installed or any real changes) because I noticed that it was a little slow.
However, when it finally rebooted, everything was impossibly slow (30-60 seconds for any action to register) and my dock was missing. On top of that, my wallpaper would occasionally flash to black and then back to the image. I've read through a ton of posts about this and apparently I'm not the only one.
I've tried killing the Dock process, deleting my preference files, and even completely reinstalling the OS. No change. My dock isn't hidden or anything like that...it's definitely something much worse. I'm on Yosemite and have been since it came out with no issues.
However, I decided to try to see what would happen with a new account. I created a new admin account and it works perfectly fine. The dock is there, it runs fast, no wallpaper issues. What possibly could be the problem with my original account. I'd be fine to start with this new account if there was a simple way to port everything over from the old account, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
Ideas on what might be causing this problem?

Problem description:
My main account no longer shows the dock and the wallpaper regularly flashes to black. Everything is very slow to respond (45-60 seconds per action). This happens in safe mode and normal. I’ve done everything I can think of including reinstalling Yosemite.
If I create a new admin account, the new account seems to function fine in both safe and normal mode, but clearly there’s a larger problem.

Safari hangs/will not open in main account; works ok in guest account
Ever since I downloaded the software update for OS X 10.5.4, Safari hangs and will not open a browser window. However, I created a guest account and Safari opens just fine in that account.

Old ipod dock bepps when ipod docked but new universal dosent...
This other day i tried my ipod on my friends 40GB 4th Gen iPod (not color display) and my 30GB iPod Video fit so i put it in and when i put in in it did like to little beep/chirp sounds like that mean that the ipod is well connected.... but i just bought a brand new Apple iPod Universal dock and when i dock my ipod it just dosent make any noise, but the dock works fine..
xmartinxThe new iPods don't make any beeps and whistles when you connect them to anything. You just gotta look at the screen.

I don't have Lion OS but have switched to icloud to keep my MAIL account working. However, now I find I'm missing SENT files for anything before July 2012. I logged onto iCloud thinking they might be online but they're not there either? Help!

IMovie 6 SLOW in main account, normal in new account, What next?
I had this problem creep up and don't know what to do with it: iMovie6HD is intolerably slow in my main account, and this just showed up with no warning. I have a large wedding project started and need to get it done. I did the usual maintenance, .plst delete, Disk repairs, reinstalled iMovie 6.0.4, even reinstalled 10.4 and applied all updates. HD where the project is stored is internal, normal Mac format with 57G space on it. It still is terribly slow. A simple dissolve transition will take about 1-1.5 minutes to render. Deletions of transfers about a minute each. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening.
If I open the project in a new account, it renders just fine and everything seems normal, but I don't have full access to everything in iDVD that is available in my main account. Not to mention that I really don't want to have to leave my account every time I want to work on a video project from here on out. If I try to start a new project in my main account, it behaves in the same manner as the existing one...SLOW!
Is there something missing to fix this after a full install of the OS? I did an archive and install, and apparently something came over with it.
Hopefully, someone has a fix to this frustrating problem.

MarkI don't know the answer to your problem. You appear to have a conflict somewhere in your main account that isn't in your secondary account. You might want to check the Activity Monitor app in Utilities to see what programs are running at the same time you are running iMovie in your main account, and compare that with what is running when you launch iMovie in your secondary account. If you have other activity intensive programs running, that could slow down your iMovie app. You could try quitting or disabling them and then see if iMovie functions properly.
Also, how many versions of iMovie are you running in your main account? If you are using iMovie 6.0.4, then you must have iMovie '08 as well. Are there any other versions that may be causing a conflict?

It's real easy to create a new one and, in fact, it's too easy. I say that because multiple IDs are a PIA. The problem is that anything obtained from the iTunes Store is PERMANENTLY associated with the ID that was used to obtain the item(s). iTunes items can not be transferred from one ID to another and IDs can not be merged.
The problem arises when you want to update an app. If you're doing it from iTunes on your computer, you must log out and back in to get to the correct ID. Then you update and log out/in again to get back to where you started. It's slightly easier if you update from the iPad/iPod device as there is no need to log out/in BUT you still need the correct password for the appropriate ID. Of course, with a disabled ID, the problem is much worse!
A replacement Apple ID makes sense ONLY if you wish to start out absolutely brand new with zero iTunes Store purchases.
If you're really butting your head aginst a wall and you're reasonably close to an Apple Store, my suggestion is that you make an appointment with the resident "Genius" and get his/her help.
One last thought... If your brother actually got a human on the phone to dispute the charges, go there and explain the problem. Of course, if Apple did not accept his explanation of what occurred, that could be the whole issue. Apple believes that money is owed on the account! -
HELP! I cannot sign in with new password on Imac but the password works on Ipad and iphone through icloud.... Just started eysterday after the status problem listed on the i cloud page.
I am having the same problem, starting today (12/15). Here's a more complete description of my problem.
About two weeks ago, I changed the email address associated with my Apple ID. The old address had been taken over by spammers, so it had to go. I followed the procedure in Manage My Apple ID, and everything seemed fine until today.
I am running Yosemite, 10.10.1 on an elderly Macbook Pro (2009)
I got a message saying I couldn't access iCloud and needed to log in in System Preferences. I tried logging in with my then correct password. After 3 tries I was locked out and told to use iForgot to reset my password. I used my recovery key and reset my password "successfully". My new password allows me to log into iCloud.com, iTunes on my Mac and on my iPhone 6, I am able to use my iCloud keychain on both devices, and I can log into Manage My Apple ID with the new password. I was also able to use the new password to log into iCloud on my iPhone. Access to iCloud drive from Pages appears to be working on my iPhone, but not on my Mac. I was also able to sign into the App Store on the Mac.
However, in System Preferences, I cannot log into iCloud and I cannot log into my iCloud mail account (both appear to use the same login). I get a message saying I have been blocked for security reasons and I need to reset my password. This is exactly the state I was in when I went and changed my password so it appears that the change didn't get communicated to system preferences. Without iCloud access, my apps that use iCloud for storage and/or syncing with iPhone apps are of limited usefulness. This may be key to the problem or at least a clue: System Preferences still thinks my Apple ID uses the old email address not the one it was changed to. The only way I know to change the address is through Manage My Apple ID
I tried rebooting by doing a full shutdown and restart, but it did not help. I also tried cursing at my Macbook but that did not help either.
I can use iCloud.com for mail and Documents since it recognizes my password. But this is at best a temporary work around. I'm off to check other sources for help. I'll report back when I know more. -
I'm now having trouble getting mac mail to work on my mac. The mobile me account works great on iphone and ipad but it won't connect to my mail account. Password is correct. What else can I do? Using OS10.68

The Apple IDs from @mac.com and @me.com (Older MobileMe and more recent iCloud Names) are also Valid AIM Screen names.
Any other sort of Apple ID is not a Valid AIM Name.
A Google ID that is associated with Google Mail Account (And has "Talk" enable on your Google Settings) can be used in iChat as Jabber Name/ID. (Google Run Jabber server).
Jabber and AIM are different IM Services and it is not easy or straight forward to add Buddies from one Service to the Buddy List of another. (As A Starting point consider it "impossible")
iChat 4 and 5 have links to the registration page of @Mac.com here with a "Get an iChat Account" button in the add (Account) screen (You select @mac.com or MobileMe and then press the Button - Choosing AIM and then pressing the button used to lead to the AIM registration page but AIM moved their page).
Apple IDs can be any valid email (or an @mac.com or iCloud registration)
Therefore you could make a Google ID into an Apple ID.
However this will not be a valid AIM Screen Name the way @mac.com or MobileMe/iCloud ones are.

Firefox will not start on limited accounts. It reports firefox already running. This happens even if no other users are logged on. Administrator accounts have no problems accessing firefox
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

My ipod touch used to sync on my old Hp laptop but now it's not even recognized as a device but will still charge on my new asus windows laptop. opening a new file in photoshop cc and the file name is displayed but no white working canvas. you can see it as a layer in the layers panel and if i draw on the grey area i can see int on the layer but not on the main screen.

First off, your installation disc is in all likelihood faulty.

when starting up Thunderbird, it's very slow. Running version 24.6.0 on Windows 8.1. Computer is a ASUS laptop. Have two email accounts. One account works fine but the other one is very slow at beginning. Clicking or deleting emails I get no response until after about 30 seconds. At times I also receive the following error message "chrome://messenger/content/mailWindow.js:179'. Clicking on stop script doesn't help. After about 4 minutes, get normal response times. This is after I have clicked or deleted emails aout five times.
About 5 minutes is how long it takes anti virus programs to scan the Thunderbird profile folder. Perhaps you need to exclude the profile folders from "on access" scanning and leave it to full scans to look at that part of the disk.

II have 2 yahoo mail accounts on my Mac. The primary account works fine but the second account loses connection. When I put in the password I get a message that it is not the correct password. The only way round it appears to be to go into Yahoo on Safari, log out then log bck in again. If I then go back into Mail and right click on the account I cn then get mail for this account without having to enter a password. The problem only started when I installed Lion, but is still the same in Mountain Lion.
