Main audio output issue

Hey,
I'm sure this is very basic but please bear with me I have just jumped ship! I have lost my main audio output. When I click the keypad mute button the speaker sign is darkened and there is a little circle with a cross through it. I have obviously checked preferences and tried tweaking the volume controls etc to no avail. Further point I'm running an external audio interface via firewire if that could be a factor in this.
Many thanks

Hi.
I bought my Mac Pro just recently (like 3 weeks ago) and I have stumbled upon this problem too.
The problem began just a few days ago, maybe since I installed Mac software updates and ran Boot camp and installed XP. But I don't find any reason to suspect it has something to do with it since no one else who has that same problem has mentioned anything about boot camp.
I suspect it might be some sort of dysfunctional software update... don't think it's hardware related since it's new and it worked just fine in the first weeks... Has anyone have this problem after an update? Or does anyone have an idea of what the solution might be?
Thanks in advance

  • OS X 10.8.5 mac mini hdmi audio output issue

I am running a 2012 Mac Mini with OS X 10.8.5 and my Mac is set for audio and video output via HDMI to my AV receiver / TV. I have recently noticed that HDMI audio output ceases to function once the computer goes to sleep. A full computer restart is required to resolve the issue which is an inconvenience to say the least.
Or is anyone aware of a simple fix?
All my software is up to date, the HDMI lead and connection works fine for video and audio works fine after a restart so it must surely be a software error. Worked fine until the latest OS X update...
    Grateful for any help!

  • HP DM1Z Netbook audio output issues.

    I never really used this netbook for anything with audio, so this could be a pre existing problem, but since I have started frequently watching movies I encounter a strange and extremely annoying problem. The input indication will rapidly switch, every 2 or 3 seconds between the two states below;
The result? Audio output switches between the headphones and the laptop speakers, and in a shared house with uni students the noise is unacceptable.
I don't even know how this is supposed to work, the DM1Z only has one 3.5mm jack! I've tried updating drivers, using older versions too. No matter what, it will eventually start screwing up. I might boot and it will do it right away, or in couple hours time; completely random.
This is driving me up the wall, I'm especially frustrated at why the control panel says there are two inputs which seems to me to be a design fault and not a simple error.

    Hey,
What BIOS version are you using? Press FN+ESC for System Information (Ex. F.12)
What version of IDT HD Sound are you using? Press the ? at the top right then check version (Ex: 1.0.6302.0)
I also find it a little odd that your showing the recording tab but the issue is with playback.

  • Audio output issue using Airplay Mirroring over Apple TV

I'm using the newest version of Apple TV to mirror my display from my MAC using the newest macbook pro with mountain lion 10.8.
The problem i'm having is whenever i try to change audio output in airplay mirroring mode the mirroring shuts off. I can't change outputs!! It's like it's forcing the macbook to use the apple tv hdmi port for audio. I NEED to use my USB DAC which i have connected to my MPB.
Grateful for any ideas, i did not expect the software to act as crappy as this. Using different audio sources successfully is something i took for granted.

Well, since I can't imagine this being a feature of Airplay I assume we're either hitting the limitations of the technology, or it's a bug. Knowing Apple I suspect it's a limitation of Airplay, perhaps because audio and video are sent out as an integrated stream?
I agree, this does suck, since all I have to use as audio is the tiny 1 watt speaker on my Epson projector! I can't even use audio out from the Apple TV, since all it has is that useless optical port. Very frustrating indeed.

  • Soundbooth Mac Audio Output Issue

I have a mac pro (purchased 2008) with the default sound card.
No matter what I do in the Audio section of the System preferences I cant get the sound to come out of the line out jack of my soundcard. I have tried adjusting the ouput settings in both Soundbooth's audio settings and in the system settings to no avail.
iTunes etc. output the sound fine, so I know that the line out port is working.
Also, if I set Soundbooth to use the headphones out socket, I can hear sound fine. It's just the line out that is a problem.
    Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I've been having the exact same problem as you (on a Mac Pro too), but think I may have found the solution. Try this:
Go to Preferences/Audio Hardware and change your Default Device to 'Built-in Line Output'. This also works for Premiere.
    Hope that helps!

  • Audio output issue in Adobe Acrobat

We have embedded .mp3 file in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro trial version. We tested in various versions of Adobe Reader in Windows and Mac. The audio is playing fine. But as per our client the audio does not work for her. She is using Windows 8. We could not check in Windows 8 as we don't have the OS. Please suggest a solution so that the audio works in all platforms.

  • Audio Output Issue

    Hello,
When headphones are plugged in and no audio file is played, you can hear a crackling, squeezing(?) sound, which also interferes, while you type in something, or use the TouchPad.
Is it bad isolation or just bad drivers?

    hey bzad,
are you able to play audio files without the headphones?
and which laptop are you using ?

No.  I doubt it's a hardware problem either.  It's a matter of getting the right sound drivers loaded for your card.  Don't give up on Arch yet.  These are the experiences you embrace with Arch.  Not run away from! :-)
You said you were new to Arch so stick to the Beginner's Guide starting out https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners'_Guide .  Make sure you read every single sentence related to "sound".
The Wiki is an awesome resource.  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Main_Page It's power is in the search box so do some generic searches there and it will take you to whole articles related to your problem.
For sound problems, be sure you check out:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sound
    and
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ALSA
    at the very least.
In fact there's a whole page devoted to your sound card:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Realtek_ALC892
It mentions installing some packages from the AUR.
For AUR, you really want to install "yaourt".
    Read about that here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Yaourt
Once you have that installed then you use it just like pacman with all the same switches.    So to install the "alsa-driver.hda-intel.hda-codec-realtek-git" package from the AUR as the Realtec_ALC892 wiki page suggests, you'd issue "yaourt -S alsa-driver.hda-intel.hda-codec-realtek-git" from the command line running as your regular user.
Don't give up.  It's time to dig!
Hopefully this will get you a little further down the street.

  • PS4 Optical output issue

Can anyone tell me if there is a known issue with the PS4 Optical port. A few weeks back while using my Astro A40 with the PS4, i reaslize that i was not geting 5.1 dolby from mixed amp anymore. I checked the optical cable to see if it is working, replaced the optical cable, restart the PS4 several times, Blow out the optical port, but i could not get any sound out the port. So i am left with only using the USB port for sound. Also i tried the same headset on my PS3 and the optical port work fine. So is it some that can me fixed or i will have to buy a new PS4 eventually. So that i can  use my Astro correctly.

Check to see the optical cable is pushed in correctly.  A common error with all opticals is that people are scared to push it in hard enough.  It should 'click' into place. Also check your settings again so that the main audio output is via optical and is also set to....i think its dts Dolby but i cant remember off the top of my head.  I say that because, i normally use rest mode on the ps4 when i switch off, but yesterday i had to switch it right off and disconnect everything so that i could install a new tv in the house.  When i switched it all back on the setting had changed for some inexplicable reason. Good luck with your issue.

  • Processing system audio output

I need to figure out a way to equalize the output signal from the system's main audio output. I need to equalize the speakers hooked up to my soundcard, and I want the equalization to happen to everything going out of the sound card.

  • Issue with HDMI audio output

    Hello everyone,
this is my first post in Arch Linux forum. I am a Newbie but have always managed to work things around with ArchWiki documentation, but I am having an issue I could not solve for some time now.
My HDMI audio output was working fine, but stoped working about a month ago, maybe due to some update. I use the open source ATI driver (xf86-video-ati package), and enabled the kernel parameter radeon.audio=1, like it is documented.
My graphics card is a Radeon HD 3650. I checked for the compatibility of the driver (http://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature/#De … ting_names) and it seems to be ok.
Do you have any suggestion to help me?
    Thank you in advance

  • How to disable audio output in while in sleep mode? (annoying issue)

I have a my workstation set up in my bedroom and when I am not using it I put it to sleep (or wait for it to go to sleep deu to inactivity).  The problem is that when its asleep the audio output is still active.  So when I get emails and such the speakers still emit the notification/alert sounds even though my computer is in sleep mode.  This is really annoying since I work with offshore teams and they send me email in the late night and early morning (when I am sleeping).  I can't seem to find a setting to change that. Any ideas?
My set up is as follows:
    17 macbook pro (early 2011)
    OSX 10.9.4
Connected to a 27" thunderbolt display
    Thanks!

Thanks KiltedTim.  I am starting to agree with you.  Do you know what I can log for in the logs that will give me an idea?
Esquared - Thanks for the link. The only thing I see in the logs is when I woke up my computer this morning.  But all morning (before I woke my computer) I was hearing a bunch of alerts/notification. Here's a look at the log query I did.

  • Asrock ION330/Nvidia HDMI - No audio output

Machine was running archlinux and not been upgraded in over 6mths but HDMI audio worked fine. Decided to do a scratch build since all the changes in that time and have a nice clean system.
If it helps, this is what I install. Ssed this exact same install process for another Asrock ION330 and Acer Revo3610 (both same hardware) but neither use HDMI at all. Both VGA with either optical or analog audio. Both work with no additional config.

FWIW, I even tried changing the HDMI cable, turning the amp on before or after the PC etc. No change.

Default install, clean boot and I get this error but the info above indicates there is a sound device. Confused!

  • Disfunctional audio output

    so im using a 20 inch imac, 2.66ghz, 2gb running 10.5.8
there is no audio output from my imac. the volume control at the top right of the screen is fine but then the dropdown volume control is at full volume and grayed out. in system prefs the audio output is on digital out (the only option) and then underneath it says the audio device has no output controls. when i plug in headphones or speakers/into my soundboard, all i get is a buzz/hum.
i have tried resseting my ram
anything i could do to resolve the issue?

Not sure it can be fixed without replacing the logic board. That is the main system board, also known as a motherboard in other types of computers.
But in any event you should take it in to Apple and have them look at it and give you an estimate on fixing it.

My audio stops outputting after a few songs in a playlist - itunes says its still playing, stopping and starting track recommences audio output.  Mac book Pro Lion 16gb ram.  Can be any song, any time, same song will play if I select it again.  Bit of a bummer itunes is the main thing I use (macbook pro jukebox).

Most likely culprit is your Lacie drives which are notorious for flaky power supplies which cause just the sort of erratic behaviour that you describe. Have had similar issues myself. Lacie has been good about replacing my power converter-- twice. If you have seven of them, good luck finding the bad one or more. Like I said, the behaviour is erratic. Sometimes it'll work sometimes not. I can't comment on Samsung drives because I've never used them and have never heard anything about them. Same with Softraid. Why not just use Disk Utility. Sounds like you're ready for an external hardware raid. This will be much faster, much more reliable, and may even be cheaper than seven firewire drives. Check out G Tech, and Maxx Digital for starters.
    Best of luck
