Main computer losses internet sometimes.

My internet on my main computer (connected to modem) losses internet sometimes when it shouldn't. (Internet connection is fine) I'm wondering if it's a faulty router because the computer connected to the modem and the router shouldn't loss internet ever unless it's an ISP problem, which it isn't. I am wondering if this is a problem with my settings or something or if it's the actual router wich is faulty. Help please?

If you have a version 5 or 6 read throught the other posts on here.  You are not alone.... Many others are having the same issue.  The router gets overloaded and decides to shutdown.  Only way to get back on right away is to unplug it to clear the nvram.  Plug it back in and you are good to go until its overloaded again.  Very common problem these days.
Also, you can enter http://192.168.1.1 ... It does work.  Click on that link and it will take you to your router login.

    Try the iPad forum, then:

You'll need to include full details, including the model of iPad, the version of iOS, the exact nature and symptoms of the problem, and what if anything you've tried for correcting the problem.

  • Set up network and internet, main computer cannot 'see' base station

OK, I am too stupid. My network was fine in the old place, after moving houses I reconnected the old way but it wouldn't work. I connected, i Mac, a powerbook and ipod touch. This is what I did:
connected dsl modem to wan port on AE station
connected lan between iMac and AE station.
Resulted in all devices connecting to my network, no devise, not even the i Mac, connects to the internet, saying PPPoE host could not be found. ipod touch say safari could not find the server, but I think it basically means the same.
Next, I tried to re-configure the AE station but the administration program on the iMac does not list my AE station, though my powerbook does. Reconfigured via powerbook but with the same result.
Is there anyone who can make sense of what I wrote above? Advise would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, my ISP requires PPPoE and the AE was configured this way originally. I am not sure if I disabled PPPoE on all my other devices. Checked system preferences on the iMac (that is the main computer) but when I open the 'network' pane it says 'your configuration was changed by another program' (sorry this is translated as I am running the OS in German) and won't accept any input, not even quitting the system preferences.
One more new thing, I tried to access the AE by putting the address and password in. iMac seem to find the AE but comes back with the message 'error occurred when reading the configuration'.

  • TS3276 I am connected to internet...all other devices receive emails except my main computer.  Any ideas why?

I am connected to internet...all other devices receive emails (ipad, iphone).  However, my main computer will not receive emails anymore.  Why?

    Ok.  So this is interesting.
Previously, I had checked my storage with Yahoo Mail Plus and I had tons of available space.
Similar to this post, I sent an email to Yahoo Mail customer service outlining my problem.  Did not receive a response.
Despite my Yahoo Mail Plus account showing plenty of available space, I decided to clean-up (delete emails and delete the resulting Trash) the various folders in the Yahoo Mail Plus account.
While deleting emails from the Sent folder and Spam folder in Yahoo Mail Plus, my Mac Mail started uploading my inbox from Yahoo Mail Plus.
I don't know if someone at Yahoo Mail "fixed something" in response to my customer service email or whether Yahoo Mail wasn't allowing Mac Mail to upload my Inbox due to some "folder sublimit" issue that wasn't readily apparent (which was "resolved" when I started cleaning up the Yahoo Mail folders).
I know it wasn't the overall storage that shows on your Yahoo Mail account because I checked that as one of the first things.
Anyway, I'm back up and running.  Thanks for responding and working with me to try to figure this out.

  • Main computer is it necessary

we have just one telephone socket in the house, so for the last few weeks ive had 20 meters of cable running through the house, every time i want to go online. i bought a wireless g router (wrt54gr)and a couple of net cards to get rid of those annoying cables and hook up anouther computer. i thought that if i plug the router into the modem (next to the phone socket) then it could transmit to the computers in the house, but the intructions tell me that i need to set up through a main computer witch seems to defeat the object. is there a way round this help wanted by someone very new to this. thanks up front

The instructions shows that it required one main computer for set up ....that is true but ..... later on you can disconnect that computer & leave the router connected to modem only ....
So the connection would be Modem connected to internet port of the router ..... from either 1-4 port  another cable connected to back of computer .....
Try to configure it & let me know ....

  • Wireless contection working but connection on main computer not working

I was using my main computer last night and walked away from it for about 15 minutes.  When I came back it said there wasn't a connection to the internet and couldn't find one.  I restarted the router and computer but it did not help.  The connection does however work on my internet.  Any suggestions?

You said wireless is working, right? Use that, if it is on a different computer download it there, put it on a flash drive, install on the one that won't communicate. But first...
    Lets go back to basics.
On the "main" (wired?) computer, can you communicate from the PC to the router? Open your browser, type in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and hit enter.
Do you see the router login screen? If so, you are talking to the router, and the problem is inside the router or beyond it (which is unlikely since you said the wireless works).
No? Then you aren't even talking to the router, try a Network Connection repair on the PC and see if that fixes it. And check to make sure the ethernet cable between your computer and the router is still correctly plugged in, and try moving it to a different port on the router.
Hope this helps. If not, please tell us more about your entire configuration (PCs, other things like TV STBs, brand of router, any customization you may have done on the router, etc). It is hard for anyone to help in an information vacuum.

  • MBA instead of MBP for main computer?

Hi, I'm currently trying to decide between the 13in. MBA and MBP. I'll be a junior in college and have finally decided to update my aging five year old Dell (the screen is coming off, it's gotten so bad). I was considering the 13 MBP two years ago, but they were still using Dual Core 2 processors. I'll be carrying my computer around campus, on flights home, and going abroad with my new computer, so its kind of annoying the 13 in MBP is still using the same chassis from four years ago.
I'm comparing the 13 in MBA with 256 SSD, i7, 8GB RAM (for about $1600) to the 13 in MBP base model for $1099 (assuming 500 GB HD and i5 are fine for my needs). I'll be using it as my main computer for all the usual tasks (word, PP, internet, videos) as well as some Photoshop work. Do you think the MBA can handle my needs? I use my computer pretty much all day, every day. I greatly prefer the MBA form factor, display, and SSD, but when talking to someone at Apple, he said that I would notice a significant performance lack on the MBA compared to the MBP, which is concerns me, especially for the extra $500 or so. I know the battery life estimate is the same, but is that true in actuality?
At this point, with everything moving the direction of the air, does it make sense to still get a Pro for the performance? Also, my budget is relatively flexible after waiting for so long...would it be a decent investment to go for the SSD in a MBP instead?
    Thanks!

    Limnos,
I think that comparing durability between the two is a near "push", in gambling terms. Yes, the MBP is more "sturdy" in construction, but extra mass is also a detriment. Extra mass can result in greater force when jostled or dropped. I've owned Air's and Pros. I would feel less nervous if something were to be dropped on the Pro, but less so if my Air were to be dropped. Mind you, my machines have always sported aftermarket hard shells, and transported in a reasonably well padded stiff case (I'm using a Level 8 case now).
Overall, I suppose I would have to give the Pro a slight overall edge in overall resistance to damage, but it is entirely manageable. Probably the biggest worry is the lack of any extra glass layer protection on the MBA screen, as the the 13" Pro has.

  • WRT54GS2 1.0- Main PC has internet cannot display page

We have the router connections correct and my laptop is working great but the main desktop computer says the internet is connect (except sent in the internet properties is showing only like 185 to 2,000 and received is saying under 100) and the internet websites are saying this page cannot be displayed.

What is the ip address you are getting on the main computer...?
Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt...A black box will appear(Command Prompt)...In the Command Prompt window type ipconfig and press 'Enter'...Look for Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection IP Address , Subnet Mask and Default Gateway...
IP Address should be 192.168.1.x, Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1 (assuming your router is 192.168.1.1)...If you get the above mentioned IP Address, Subnet and Gateway Address then you should ping the Gateway, type ping 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...If it gives you request timed out then disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer...

  • Prioritizing traffic from "main" computer on LAN

    My Current Setup
internet router (dhcp server) main computer
    ●──────────────────●────────────(eth1)─●
    │ │(eth0)
    │ │
    │ switch │
    └─────●─────────────┘

    └─● [other computers]
My main computer is connected to the router via a switch on eth0 and directly via a usb cable on eth1. Other computers on the LAN connect to the router via the switch.
    The Problem
I need to shape traffic in such a way that priority is given to uploads from the main computer when other computers are uploading.* I do not always have the option of throttling the upload on the other systems and I do not want to impose any arbitrary limits on them. I simple want to make sure that all the necessary bandwidth is given to the main computer and whatever is leftover can be used for the other computers.
NOTE: I cannot shape traffic via the router. My ISP uses crippling firmware and I cannot bypass it.
    The Plan
The main computer is not always on so I can't configure it to be an integral part of the network. I don't mind having to disconnect and reconnect a cable though so I suspect that I can disconnect the switch from the router and thus shape traffic from the other computers by passing it through the main computer:
internet router (dhcp server) main computer
    ●──────────────────●────────────(eth1)─●
    │(eth0)

    switch │
    ●─────────────┘

    └─● [other computers]
This is where I need some help. I've looked through a lot of documentation but I'm still not sure how to set this up. I think I need to use proxy ARP (with iproute2) but I'm hoping that someone else can confirm this before I explore it further. I'm afraid that I'll waste time only to find that it was a false start and that I need to do it differently.
Can anyone with network configuration experience confirm that proxy ARP is the way to go? If not, what do you suggest?
I would also appreciate any links to relevant tutorials|guides|documentation. I wouldn't mind some simple examples either but I'm not asking anyone to do this for me. I just need to know that I'm on the right path.
    Thanks.
*I'm only concerned about upload bandwidth right now because I'm on ADSL and download bandwidth is usually not an issue. I also expect that any solution for upload shaping will work for download shaping as well.

God no.... Proxy ARP is the most god awful creation ever created. The person who thought that was a good idea should be taken out the back and shot.
You want to create a bridge with eth0 and eth1 = br0 so they both act on the same Layer 2 (ie, your Main computer becomes a 2-port switch). This should get you going, you'll just have to hack out / modify the firewall parts to do the traffic prioritisation stuff:

I have  WRT54G Wireless Router on my main computer (VISTA) and I am trying to set up A Linksys Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter (WUSB54G) on my other computer (XP). It is all setup, however I am getting the message "You are connected to the access point, but the Internet cannot be found."   To further complicate the issue, when I check the IPCONFIG on the XP computer, I get back some weird IP address that is outside my router's network, even though I'm using DHCP.
I know the router is working - my laptop associates through the wireless network with no problem, and I can access the network printer that is also wired to the router.  The problem seems to be in the configuration of the old XP computer with the new WUSB54G adapter.

    Try following settings ....
Uninstall the drivers for the Adapter from start >> All programs ....
    >> Insert the Setup CD in the cd drive>> Click on Exit when the
Linksys welcome screen appears>>Click on start. Unplug & replug adapter ...>> There should be a "" Found New Hardware Wizard ""
that pops up on your screen>> Click on “Install software
automatically “, and then click on next. Once the installation is
complete>> Right click on the wireless network connection icon in the
system tray besides the clock >>Click on view wireless networks and
then connect to your network name.

    Hi-
If you've gone through all that was previously suggested, and go beyond that, and reinstall the OS to rule out problems there, I think that you are realizing that the internet, and it's content, have outpaced your old reliable.
Without faster hardware, and if all software is working properly, any add-ons (if there were any) wouldn't do you any good.
Might watch eBay, or the like, for a used processor upgrade. That might be a good option to breathe some new life into your machine.
Or, it might be time to consider a faster machine......

  • How can I use home sharing? (main computer)

Well, I have a Windows PC and almost on my music is in Home Sharing with my sister (her computer is the main computer, I'm pretty sure) . When her computer is closed, the home sharing disapeers.
Is there anything I can do so that I can always have home sharing or move the music to my music folder? Something like that?
    Any help will be appreciated!
    Thank you!

First, make sure you've got the home share set up on both computers, as per the following document:
iTunes: Setting up Home Sharing on your computer
Have both computers running and have iTunes open on both computers.
Now, in the iTunes on the computer you want to transfer music to, select the library that you want to transfer music from, as per the following screenshot:
Once the other library loads, go down to the bottom of the screen and in "Show:" select "Items not in my library":
If you want to import all of the songs you can now see, head up to the iTunes menu bar and go "Edit > Select all". Then head down to the bottom of the screen again and click the "Import" button in the bottom-right-hand corner.

Sorry but your iPhoto library is not on an iPad or iPod - you may have photos there (most likely low resolution copies) but not an iPhoto library - dying computers (along with software and human errors) are why you always must have a backup - now is the time to load it
