Main iCloud account is completely inaccessible

It is not possible for me to access my main iCloud account. It is linked to an apple ID which I created a long time ago. Here's the catch, the ID uses a misspelled email address (it uses .edi instead of .edu) so there is no way that I can access the email address or delete the iCloud account. Any password I enter is incorrect, I can't change which account is set as the main one, and I obviously can't go into the email because it simply doesn't exist. I have another apple ID which I have created more recently but I can't change it to the main iCloud account because the other one is not currently deleteable because of the aforementioned issues. Any have some ideas?

If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact AppleCare(or Apple ID Support), upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.

  • How do I change the main iCloud account on my iPad?

I need to change the main iCloud account on my iPad. I'm merging family MobileMe accounts' contacts, and need to set up multiple devices with the main iCloud family account so we will all share photos, contacts, calendars, etc, but have separate email via personal subaccounts. Trouble is I entered a sub account as the main account on one of the iPads and I can't find a way to change it.

I have the same question for a slightly different reason.
I just got an iPhone6 and set it up from an iPhone4 backup. I never really used that phone for iCloud, When iCloud first launched, I used an old earthlink email but I've since updated to a gmail address on my account.and use iCloud a lot on my iPad and laptop. But the new phone wants me to log in under the old earthlink account. I don't have that password and attempts to reset it have not worked. How can I switch the log in address so I can use the correct working address?

  • How do I delete the iCloud assigned to my iPhone that is not my main iCloud account and shares the same email address!? No Password.

I have my main iCloud account for iTunes and Mail etc.
On my iPhone I seem to have initiated a secondary iCloud account with a different AppleID, yet receive emails to the other/same email account as the primary iCloud account on my Mac.
I have gone through every password ever used and simply cannot access the account. Also I have requested the password reset verification via email, that gets sent, but never arrives.
I can access both email accounts without a problem.
If anyone has an idea what to do it would be magnificent.
...security questions cannot be answered since I took an alternative birthdate for security and have forgotten it. #seemedlikeagoodideaatthetime

How do I change the main iCloud account on my iPhone?

I activated an iPad for a work associate; somehow, MY Apple ID account is assigned to his iPad's iCloud backup.  His iPad is using up all MY iCloud space... he IS set up in App Store with his own Apple ID.
On my own iPad (just to check out what settings/options were), i went to "Settings/iCloud: and tapped "Delete Acct".  BUT, then I got a message that all Photo Stream and documents stored in iCloud would be deleted from this iPad...   so, two questions...
is there ANY way for him to retrieve the documents he saved in MY iCloud account (there's 9.1g worth of HIS backup in my account!! ... i purchased extra space before i realized it was being eaten up by him and not mine).
Because he'd be logging  back in under his OWN ID which had never backed up his device before......so, he'll  lose everything, right?
Really need someone who KNOWS apple iOS/Cloud workings to answer this one please ... much (at least some, lol) of his data is work-related.... at 9gig, can't be all work!! must be a lot of movies, photo's and music i'd guess.  as this is a WORK-issued device, so be it if he has to re-load all that................

  • Changing main iCloud account

When switching phones I noticed my old one was set up with the family's iCloud account however, they want me to make my own- save my photos on the old one so I can transfer it to the new one. It refuses to let me sign into my new iCloud account unless I delete the family one which I can't because they still need to use it.

    You can't merge iCloud accounts.
You could move all your calendars contacts etc over from the account you don't want to the one you do, it's not simple but about all I can suggest.

  • How to share safari iCloud tabs using a secondary iCloud account?

I have 4 iOS devices in the family: an iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, ipad 2 and an ipad 3, all with the latest iOS software.
Each  pair has its own separate primary icloud account. So, one phone shares a primary icloud account with one ipad, the other iPhone  shares with the second ipad. That allows us to keep most things separated as necessary. However,. the are just 2 things I wanted to across across ALL 4 devices: Shared Safari Tabs, and Find iPhone. I wanted to be able to see what safari tabs are currently open on ALL these devices, FROM any device of these devices.  I also wanted to be able to see the location of ALL 4 devices from any of these devices.  To do this, I set us a second shared iCloud account on all 4 devices.
The new shared safari tabs feature works great with your main iCloud account on all devices you want to share this with....HOWEVER, it WILL NOT WORK AT ALL if you are trying to share tabs with a secondary iCloud account.
I set up a secondary shared family iCloud account on all 4 of our iOS devices by going to Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars/Add Account... and selected iCloud as the account type, and created a new family account. After creating it, I was offered options to share various things with that account. I turned OFF every share option except Safari and Find iphone.
Turning ON the Safari sharing option generated a box telling me that Safari sharing will be turned OFF for main iCloud account, (which is fine), and asking if I want to save my current Safari data and roll it into the new iCloud account or delete it (I've tried it both ways). I then repeated this process on all 4 of our family iOS devices. The result is that Safari iCloud sharing actually stops working all together. The new "cloud" symbol that was at the top of the browser window on my iPads , next to the bookmarks button, has now disappeared. On my iPhones, the menu option for sharing safari tabs has disappeared. So, enabling Safari sharing in a secondary iCloud account DOES disable sharing in the primary account, but DOES NOT REALLY enable it in the secondary account, even though it SAYS it is enabled.
Apple's phone support is worthless on this issue. multiple calls to senior advisors, 3 times being told my issue was being referred to "engineering"....never a single followup call or email back EVER, after weeks. i am really tired of so-called senior advisors even telling me "Oh, you can't have more that one icloud account in a device", which is NOT true, see above for how I have added one.
What is really odd is that the one other thing i wanted to share across all 4 devices does work: the Find Iphone app. Again,, turning this on in the secondary iCloud account settings causes a warning that Find iPhone will be turned off for the primary iCloud account on that device, which is fine for me. I did it on all 4 devices, and now from any of them I can log into Find iPhone and see the location of all 4 devices, even though they use different primary iCloud accounts. Sharing this feature still works with the secondary account.
So why won't the Safari data share properly with the secondary account? if this feature isn't supported with a secondary account, why is it there as on option in the first place? What purpose does Safari sharing serve with a secondary account? NONE that I can find, aside from DISABLING sharing completely for the primary iCloud account.
If anyone has an idea of how to make this work, or what purpose the Safari sharing serves in a secondary icloud account, I'd love to know. Better yet,  explain it to Apple because they are clueless.........

Sigh...it's gotten even worse with iOS7.
While iOS7 may be a big leap forwards in most respects, the "Find my iPhone" feature has taken a big step in reverse. This useful feature is NO LONGER AVAILABLE for use with secondary iCloud accounts, ONLY your PRIMARY account.
This may not be a huge concern for most users, because many (including most first-tier tech reps at Apple I've spoken to) seem to believe that you can only have one iCloud account on a device. NOT TRUE. While you can only have one PRIMARY account, you can add multiple additional iCloud EMAIL accounts (go to Settings/Mail, Contacts & Calendars/Add Account/iCloud). In the last iOS, once you created a new, secondary iCloud email address, you could activate many iCloud features for use with the new account, including Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Reminders, Notes, Safari Data (which never actually worked), and Find My iPhone. Under iOS7, however, Find My iPhone is no longer available. Instead, a small paragraph below the new iCloud email account setup screen says "Only your main account can use Bookmarks, Photo Stream, Documents & Data, Backup, and Find My iPhone."
Consider two cases where this is a huge problem.
    1) We have a large number of company iOS devices that we need to keep track of.
    2) Personally, I have an iPhone and iPad, and so does my wife. So do our kids!
In both the above cases, we created a secondary iCloud account, we'll call it "[email protected]", and added it as a secondary iCloud email address on ALL our iOS devices. In the setup screen we disabled everything EXCEPT "Find My iPhone". This account has a unique password, making it possible to see the location of ANY OR ALL the devices using the Find My iPhone App, WITHOUT having to share email, contacts, calendars, etc. among all these devices.
In our company, I can tract the location of any iOS device I gave to an employee, but his personal PRIMARY iCloud account is used to keep his mail, contacts, calendars, etc. secure. He shares this data between his iPhone and iPad, but NOT with everyone else. In my family, we all have our own primary iCloud accounts. I share mine between my iPhone and iPad; my wife and kids do the same. This allows us to keep our calendars, contacts, emails, etc. separated. But we all used the secondary iCloud email account ONLY with Find My iPhone. This allowed everyone in the family to see the location of everyone else, very nice in an emergency. Unlike the Find My Friends app, the device being located doesn't have to respond to a request to be found (very important when finding a lost or stolen device).
In both the above cases, we just log into the Find My iPhone APP on ANY iOS device, using the secondary iCloud account's email address and password (the email address is actually saved in the app, so you really only need to enter the password after the initial login). Viola! You can now see the location of any device that has that secondary iCloud account installed. And a person can still be untrackable if they wish, simply by turning off the Find My iPhone feature under the shared account's iCloud account settings on their device.
Alas, with iOS7 this is no longer possible. With the Find My iPhone feature only available for use with the device's PRIMARY iCloud account, there are only two ways to track another device:
    1) Use the same primary iCloud account (which forces you to share other data and features you may not want to);
    2) Log into the Find My iPhone APP with the PRIMARY iCloud email address and password of the person you want to track.
Either way, the person doing the tracking MUST have access to the PRIMARY iCloud credentials of the device they are tracking. This is a large security hole! Ask yourself: if you are a parent, do you really want your kids to have access to your primary iCloud account, including your mail, contacts, calendars, etc? Some people may not want their spouse to access that. In a company setting, do you want all your employees to be FORCED to share Documents & Data, Backup and Bookmarks, just to use the Find My iPhone feature? If they want to keep their mail, contacts, calendars, etc. separated from other employees, they will be forced to move these to a secondary iCloud account, which will no longer allow them to share Bookmarks, Photo Stream, Documents & Data or Backup. Why this ridiculous limitation?
The bottom line:Find My iPhone is now only useful for the primary iCloud account holder, and can no longer be used effectively between larger numbers of iOS devices, such as families or corporate institutions. This should be addressed in the next update to the iOS.

  • Share Photo Stream and Contacts but backup to different iCloud accounts

I have researched this question a bit and found remotely similar questions but none exactly the same (feel free to point out an answer that answers this already).
Is there a way to use a joint iCloud account between my wife and I (so Photostream and contacts are synced), but have the phones backup (to iCloud) to two different accounts?
At the moment, the "main" iCloud account on both iPhones shares the photostream and contacts - which is great. I've also installed another iCloud account (on each phone, i.e. three iCloud accounts in total) with the calendars shared between each new account and to solve the problem with Siri automatically switching who we are (see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3411497?start=0&tstart=0 for this problem, which I have fixed). Ideally, I would like each phone to backup to these (new) accounts due to space restrictions, not the shared iCloud account.
Currently, it seems, I can only backup to whichever account the Photostream comes from - is this correct? If not, how do I get around this?
(I consider iTunes as a completely separate entity but FYI, iTunes on both iPhones uses a shared account - one that is completely separate from all the iCloud accounts mentioned above).

To migrate to a new account and keep your data and photos, start by saving any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud), provide the password to turn off Find My iDevice and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data.
if you are signing back into the same account, just with a revised ID you should choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted as your data will still be in your account and will download back to your device when you sign back in with the revised ID.  You do still need to save your photo stream photos to your camera roll before deleting the existing account.

  • Multiple iCloud Accounts?

I thought I had a grasp on all this, but I am now a little confused and can't find an exact answer to my question, so I started a new thread...
Here is what I am trying to do:
My wife and I each have a Mac and an iPhone.
I have one main AppleID that I have had for years (from .Mac to MobileMe years) and have done all my purchasing for the various App/Music Stores, primary email, and is now my iCloud account.  For ease I will call it [email protected] (or [email protected]).
My wife also has an iPhone and a Mac and I set up an email address for her years ago under my now defunct MobileMe Family Account ([email protected]).  I have not updated it to iCloud yet.
I want to be able for her to use the [email protected] for her email on her iPhone and Mac and the [email protected] for all the other iCloud stuff (Find My iPhone, Cal, Address book, reminders, photostream etc).  Will this still work when I upgrade her account to iCloud? Can you have 2 iCloud accounts activated on the same iPhone and Mac like this?
The next level I want to achieve is to create a THIRD email: [email protected] that we both have access to on each of our iPhones and each of our Macs.  so the question would then be, can I still create an email address with the address @me.com or is that address gone now and replaced with something else?  And second can you have multiple iCloud email addresses going into a unified email inbox?
I hope that makes sense to someone reading it.

You can create the third apple id, but there is no way that I know of to log into more than one iCloud account at one time on a device. Signing into iCloud automatically creates the account in Mail. So, you would have to sign out of one to sign into the other.
You could log into iCloud.com website with the "ours" account. Put a bookmark to the iCloud website and you can both access it there, while accessing your main iCloud account in Mail. This would be a good option if you don't mind webmail. Of course, there will be no syncing anything else this way, but you could still read common mail there.
You could also just get another email account such as gmail and use that for your together account. This would probably be the easiest solution. Set it up on both devices as IMAP and everything will stay in sync.
For multiple iCloud email addresses belonging to the same apple id, but not separate apple ids, they will all go to the iCloud account. You can only have one main address per apple id, but you can create 3 aliases to the account. Problem is they will all be under the 1 iCloud account in the message list and you will have to look at the address sent to to know which one it is. You could create a rule to move messages of a particular address to another folder or a smart mailbox to show messages to a specific address if that's a problem.

  • Multiple iCloud accounts / iOS 8 iPhone cellular / Coherence

    Hello,
My partner and I share a photo library, a music library, and a keychain. In iOS 7, we would just sign into the same iCloud account, and then for FaceTime and iMessage sign into a different account, each respective account associated with our own iPhone mobile number.
It seems this strategy doesn't work in iOS 8 -- to use iPhone cellular or Coherence, you have to be signed into the same account.
Associating the accounts mentioned above under a family account doesn't help.
If each of us signs into our own iCloud account, we will have different Photo Streams which for now means our pictures can't both end up in the same iPhoto library, and, down the line, we will need iCloud Photo Libraries (probably 500 gigs worth), with no good way to sync them across accounts. We would also lose shared keychain. We could keep the same music library because of the family account.
Is there any way to work around this? Ideally, we would sign into our own iCloud accounts but for Drive, Photo Stream/Photo Library, and Keychain, be able to connect that feature with another library. Or at least have a way to share the whole library between accounts, not just the single Family Album.
    Thanks!

EDIT:  It seems this strategy doesn't work in iOS 8 -- to use iPhone cellular or Coherence, you have to be signed into the same account in FaceTime as the main iCloud account.

  • How to Manage Multiple iCloud Accounts?

I've been getting these email notifications saying that my "complimentary iCloud storage upgrade expires" soon. It's prompting me to upgrade my plan, which I did for my main iCloud account, however how do I do this for all my other accounts?
I already went to System Preferences -> iCloud -> Sign Out, but once I click on "Sign Out" it says "do you want to keep a copy of your iCloud contacts on this Mac" (which I responded with "Keep Contacts"), then the next pop up says "If you stop using iCloud for Calendars & Reminders, calendars and reminders stored in iCloud will be deleted from this Mac" with the option of "Cancel" or "Delete from Mac". I don't quite understand what this means and am too scared to click "Delete from Mac", but unless I do this I can't proceed any further. Help! What should I do?
All I want to do is just log out from one iCloud account to another (on my Mac) so I can upgrade my storage plan on a different iCloud account.
    Thanks!

You only have the complimentary storage on one iCloud account - the one you migrated to from MobileMe. If you have upgraded the storage then this will work with all your devices logged into that account.
Do you actually have any other iCloud accounts - with different logins and email addresses? These would not be affected by upgrading the ex-MobileMe one.
If you have another iCloud account you want to upgrade you will have to pay for it separately, but in that case you don't have the impending termination of the free storage.
To change the iCloud account in use on any one device, go to the iCloud preference/settings pane and click 'Sign out' or 'Delete account' as applicable. This will not delete the account from the server. If 'Find my iPhone/Mac/Ipad' is running you will have to turn it off first. Do not choose to retain data on the device (it will still be on the server and when you sign back in you will get duplicates when you sign back in).
Then you can sign in with the other account, do whatever is necessary, sign out in the same way and back into the original account, whereupon your data will reappear.
But, once again, the prompt to upgrade your storage applies to only the one account, and will take effect for all devices logged into it without your havint to do anything else.

  • How to enable Find my iPhone using non-primary iCloud account in iOS 7?

Our business relied on this functionality to track our iPhones and iPads.  We had a separate MDM service so we can remotely manage/wipe devices, but finding the location is important to us.
There are lots of articles on the Internet on how to set this up on iOS 6, how useful it is for businesses (and families), etc.  Why would Apple change this functionality?  They can still "protect" the feature by requiring a password to turn it off for the account, just like they do with the primary/main iCloud account.
    Help!

Interesting. I haven't updated yet but I'd like to follow your progress on this issue.
If an answer isn't found by the end of the day, I will do my own iOS7 update and do my own research. Good luck.

  • Question on Shared iCloud account and Find Friends

My wife and I share a common iCloud account on our iPhones because we want to share calendars, contacts, etc.  I recently upgraded to IOS 8 and it seems to have changed how Find Friends works.  Since Find Friends uses the main iCloud account as identifying "Me", both phones cannot independently report their location (i.e, if I set phone #1 to "share my location from" from phone #1, then the share location on phone #2 is set to phone #1 since the same iCloud is used on both phones).
I thought that I had this working correctly prior to the upgrade, but maybe I am misremembering.  Was there a way in prior versions to set up different apple ID's for Find Friends (like you can for Messages and FaceTime) so that it didn't force you to use the main iCloud account?

    Hi Seal,
And the Mac is connected to Wifi? Also, when you say the Find My iPhone "tab" doesn't locate any devices, want to make sure that you mean the Find My iPhone icon on the iCloud website on the Mac:
And when you click on the Find My iPhone app, you are not seeing anything at all under Devices:
Just want to make sure we are on the same page....

  • How do I remove an iCloud account from contacts on my Mac

As many other people I have two iCloud accounts, one that was my forme me account and the other is the one I used to purchase apps in the app store. When iCloud arrived we (Me users) were given 20GB extra storage on our iCloud accounts for one year. Well that year has ended and I want to get rid of my Me/iCloud account. I purchased my extra storage on my main iCloud account, signed out of my Me/iCloud account and signed in with me main account on my Mac. Now when I access my contacts it keeps bugging me for my me account password event though I dont need it anymore and I cant find a way to delete it or make it stop asking me for the password. Anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance for your help.
