Main live 2008 R2 server (on AWS) has stopped applying updates

Hi all,
Hopefully someone can help me - I can't believe I'm the only one experiencing this issue.
Our main live server is 2008 R2 (x64) running on Amazon Web Services. Until recently it had been working fine, however now it won't accept ANY updates - they all continue to fail, no matter what (up to 32 updates
outstanding so far).
After trying various suggestions prior to this I ended up trying every single proposed solution in KB article 2509997 - "Unable to install updates
in Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2" Nothing worked. The only thing I couldn't try was a checkdisk (being a VM), however sfc failed to find a problem (from memory).
Below is hopefully the relevant bits of WindowsUpdate.log

Unable to install updates in Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2

Hi Benjamin,
Before going further, would you please let me know if you fix that memory problem firstly which find by using
SFC? If you download and install update manually, will encounter the same issue?
Please refer to the following article and check if can help you to solve this update issue.
Can’t
download any updates on windows server 2008 r2
By the way, when I check the log that you post, it seems that you install Internet Explorer 10 in the Server
2008 R2. Please check if install correctly. There is a KB that you can refer to.
Can't install Internet Explorer 10 in Windows 7 or
Windows Server 2008 R2
Hope this helps.

I am getting this error, while creating my first ever server-pool.
Check prerequisites to create server pool (First-Pool) failed: (OVM-2008 The Server Pool Master (172.16.0.37) has been registered with some other pool, and can not register it again.)
Any idea what can be going wrong?

The only time I've seen this is when the server really has been registered with another pool. You need to clean out the local ovs-agent database at */etc/ovs-agent/db* and restart the agent.

  • App Store program on IPad (3) has stopped downloading updates?

The app store application has stopped updating purchased apps. All else works and I can download wanted apps, but it shows there are 5 update for downloaded apps. When I try to start the update process, nothing happens.?

The update server is down; try this temporary workaround
    App Store>Purchased>Select "All"
Note: Look out for apps that have the word "Update"

  • Server-Side Sychronization has stopped

    Hi,
We have setup a setup of CRM Queues (mailed enabled) with Dynamics CRM 2013 using Server-Side Synchronization.  Everything was working fine until the password associated to the queue expired and we had to reset (about it 4 days later).  When the
connection to Exchange was re-established we began receiving emails from that point on, but nothing for the period when the synchronization was broken (because CRM could not authenticate to Exchange).
So we have all these emails in Exchange, that we want to get processed and routed into CRM.
The only viable solution to this problem has been this blog - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/emeadcrmsupport/archive/2015/01/21/dynamics-crm-2013-server-side-synchronization-email-process-issue-after-disabled-mailbox.aspx - which looks like it will work.
Are there any other ways to solve this problem?  I'm a little hesitant to go right to the database on this?  When previously using the Email Router, once the connection was re-established, all the emails stored in Exchange would automatically route
    to CRM.
    Thanks - Greg.

    Greg,
It looks like this is a known issue.  Check the following blog.  It describes your symptoms, why it happens and how to resolve it.

  • SQL Server Management Studio has stopped working when changing fonts and colors

I installed sql server management studio 2012 about 3 months ago to test drive and from time to time I'll attempt to change my background color of the TSql editor "In the fonts and colors option under tools"; however, the entire studio crashes
    and restarts.
This has been ongoing since I first installed it 3 or 4 months ago, and have waited on posting to a fourm for help, assuming I am not the only one this is happening to I've waited for an update that might fix the issue.
I've got to start on some heavy scripting and that god awful white background kills my eyes. I've got to have a black background or my work day is cut off by about 3 hours becuase of strain.
What can I provide to someone that would help me with this?
    Thank you,
    Erik

  • Microsoft.VsHub.Server.HttpHostx64.exe has stopped working

    Hi there,
Can anyone offer advice as how to further diagnose the cause of the above fault?
This happens each & every time I run an MVC &/or API ASP.NET Web Application built with VS 2015 CTP 6, it does not prevent the application from building/working. What further information can I provide to help with my query?

    Hi XakTacit,
Thank you fro posting in MSDN forum.
Because VS2015 Preview CTP 6 is still a preview version instead of final released version, I suggest that you should submit this feedback to Microsoft Connect

  • Msg 8631 Internal error: Server stack limit has been reached on SQL Server 2012 from T-SQL script that runs on SQL Server 2008 R2

I have an Script mostly that is generated by SSMS which works with-out issue on SQL Server 2008, but when I attempt to run it on a new fresh install of SQL Server 2012 I get an Msg 8631. Internal error: Server stack limit has been reached. Please look for
potentially deep nesting in your query, and try to simplify it.
The script itself doesn't seem to be all that deep or nested.  The script is large 2600 lines and when I remove the bulk of the 2600 lines, it does run on SQL Server 2012.  I'm just really baffled why something that SQL Server generated with very
few additions/changes AND that WORKS without issue in SQL Server 2008 R2 would suddenly be invalid in SQL Server 2012
I need to know why my script which is working great on our current SQL Server 2008 R2 servers suddenly fails and won't run on an new SQL Server 2012 server.  This script is used to create 'bulk' Replications on a large number of DBs saving a tremendous
amount of our time doing it the manual way.
Below is an 'condensed' version of the script which fails.  I have removed around 2550 lines of specific sp_addarticle statements which are mostly just copy and pasted from what SQL Management Studio 'scripted' for me went I when through the Replication
Wizard and told it to save to script.

Assuming your rig can support virtual machines, you can use Hyper-V and run another OS there.
Better practice however is to use a dedicated machine and use remote desktop to the server.

  • Server 2003 R2 DC migration to 2008 R2 worked? but exchange 2007 has stopped

    Hi everyone,
This is a single DC running on Server 2003 R2 which I migrated to a fresh install of Server 2008 R2. This appears to have worked without issue. DNS is working dcdiag and netdiag didn't report problems.
When I demote the 2003 server however Exchange 2007 stops working. It appears that it is still looking to talk to the 2003 server based on this
EVENT ID: 2012 All DC Servers in use are not responding DC.mydomain.com
Can anyone help fix this issue pls. I cant find where Exchange has stored the old domain name.
    TYIA

TY both for taking the time to reply.
I have gotten to the problem. The fact you both pointed me to event 2080 was instrumental in guiding me down the right path. Once I read this MS article I could see the new DC was missing
the SACL rights. This was a tad frustrating as I had previously checked that Manage auditing and security log was correctly configured in the Default Domain Controllers Policy, was applied to Domain
computers and the new server was in the correct container.
However when your up to your ass in a croc filled swamp you sometimes forget the odd thing; I didn't run RSOP, if I had at the time, I would have never have had to post for help. Yes you guessed it the policy wasn't enabled!! A quick enable and gpupdate
    /force and all was well.
Still, always the optimist, I learned about event 2080, and uncovered and fixed problems with the clients servers where they had ghost nics....
Just to clarify in case others read this post.
    This wan't SBS
It was a single DC domain running on server 2003 R2 x64
    Exchange 2007 running on a seperate server 2003 R2 x64.
The domain name didn't change. What I meant was the new DC had a different name
the New DC is a fresh install of server 2008 R2,  IPv6 is enabled
The old DC had adprep /forestprep then adprep /domainprep run on it
The 5 fsmo roles were moved from the old DC to the 2008 DC
Just need to move DHCP and other bits n pieces and job done :)
    Thanks for the help

  • Managed sql server installer has stopped working sql 2008 r2

I tried to installed sql 2008 r2 on my windows 7 but unfortunately I got message "managed sql server installer has stopped working"
    1. I tried to program feature on and off feature
    2. I checked setup file is corrupted or not setup file is well in condition
    3. I turn on firewall too.
then again I tried to installed again same problem I faced.
please any different way to overcome from this problem!
    regard Bishnu Khaling!

    Hi Bishnu,
As Shanky’s post, you can post the SQL Server setup log files for analysis.
According to the error message, it is usually a problem with the installation of .NET Framework on the machine. However, from your description, you try to turn on the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 feature and still fail to install SQL Server 2008 R2.
Do you reboot your computer after enabling .NET Framework 3.5?
To further troubleshoot this issue, I recommend you perform the following steps.
    1. Run the below tool to verify the state of one or more versions of the .NET Framework on the computer .
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx
    2. If .Net Frameworks 3.5 cannot be verified in step1, please use the
.NET Framework Repair Tool to repair it.
    3. If there’s no problem with .Net Frameworks 3.5, and you also have .NET Framework 4.0 or 4.5 installed on the computer, please uninstall .NET Framework 4.0 or 4.5 completely. Then reinstall SQL Server and check if it is successful.
    4. In addition, please make sure that the Windows 7 system is not damaged.
For more details about the error, you can also review the following blog.

  • Windows 2008 r2 server - chkdsk loop - An unspecified error occurred (696e647863686b2e dee)

    Hi,
One of our main windows 2008 r2 file servers (HP Proliant ML350 G6) seems to have a dirty d: drive.
After every reboot, chkdsk runs on drive "d:" and stops with an unspecified error
(696e647863686b2e dee) when checking indexes. After the error it continues to boot and start normally into windows. The d: drive looks ok, but when I run chkdsk in windows the chkdsk runs and stops at the same point without
warning or anything else. The gui stops and exits, period. No message nothing.
When I check the d: drive with "fsutil dirty query d:", the disk is marked as "dirty" ....
The HP advanced Proliant diagnostic tools did not show any problems with the hardisks, I'm running latest HP drivers and firmwares on the server. Last but not least I don't have any special warnings/errors etc in the event viewer.
Here is the output of chkdsk f.ex. in safe mode I did a few hours ago, the output/error is always identical:
    C:\>chkdsk d: /R /F /X
The type of the file system is NTFS.
    Volume label is DATA.
CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 5)...
      184832 file records processed.
    File verification completed.
      15624 large file records processed.
      0 bad file records processed.
      0 EA records processed.
      5 reparse records processed.
CHKDSK is verifying indexes (stage 2 of 5)...
10 percent complete. (182686 of 212928 index entries processed)
An unspecified error occurred (696e647863686b2e dee).
As of now, I have disabled the boot-time check on drive d: (with "chkntfs d: /x"), but I would prefer to restore it when the problem is fixed.
I tried a lot of chkdsk and safe mode combinations, nothing helped. I don't have any clues ... so your help is really welcome.
    Thanks a lot!
    KInd regards,
    Didier

    Hi,
There are multiple cause for the issue such as an improper shutdown sequence, or a more serious hardware problem that can indicate a failing drive.
On NTFS volumes, the dirty bit is typically set only if the file system has detected potential corruption. In this case, an event is logged in the System event log. Please check the System event log for more information.
Please refer to this kb article for more and detail information:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322275/en-us
Meanwhile, I am not sure if this is a harddisk issue, so i would suggest you could ask for the HP support.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • Difference between SQL SERVER 2008 & SQL SERVER 2012 & SQL SERVER 2014

    Difference between SQL SERVER 2008 & SQL SERVER 2012 & SQL SERVER 2014 ?

What sort of databases do you have OLTP? Data warehouse? What requirements do you have for High Availability?
The main features for SQL 2012/2014, as I see it:
o  Support for window functions, which makes it possible to write fast queries for running totals, sliding windows etc.
o  Columnstore indexes, which can speed up your data warehouse enormously. But of no interest for OLTP. Only writable in SQL 2014.
o  AlwaysOn and Availability Groups, a vastly improve story for high availability and disaster recovery.
o  try_convert/try_cast, you can now easily filter out values from a column which does not convert to a number. A small but essential feature.
o  In memory-OLTP, a new in-memory engine in SQL 2014. This far with very limited feature set, and quite specialised.
Of the points above, the second and third require Enterprise Edition, the first and fourth are in all editions. For the last, I don't think Microsoft has announced anything yet.
There are also new stuff in the BI area, but that's out of my league.
And, oh, there is a new licensing model - which I think is holding more than one customer back.

Need assistance with Windows 2008 R2 server BSOD - ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY (fc)
I have a Windows 2008 R2 server which is experiencing random BSOD during the night. This is occurring maybe once or twice a week. I have gathered two Memory crash files. This server is running Citrix XenApp 6.5 but nothing else is reporting an issue except
for the memory dump. I’m looking for assistance in reading crash file and finding the cause.
I’ve spent over a week going through articles trying to learn and trouble shoot the BSOD but no closer to understanding the WinDbg 6.3.9600 report.
This is a production server and I have verified that Windows Updates has updated the server with latest releases. I’m hoping that the crash file will show something before I have to run the Driver Verifier.
The crash zip file is located -

  • BO XI 3.1 SP2 error while installing in Windows 2008 ENT Server 32 Bit

    Hi
We have  windows 2008 enterprise edition 32 Bit SP2 , While installing  BO 3.1 SP2 we are getting the following error.
"Some files could not be created.
Please close all applications, reboot Windows and restart this installation."
1.we do have enough space as well as we are installing it through administrator account.
2.I increase the virtual memory size from 2 GB to 4 GB, still same error.
3.we downloaded the software in two diffrent machines. We tried extracting the "exe" file in two machine but still getting the same error.
4.We dont have any firewall connected and windows firewall is off.
Is there BO 3.1 Sp2 is available for windows 2008 ent server 32-Bit?
Because In the download site there is Windows Server on IA32 32-bit.
    is it the correct version?
Please help us to solve this problem
    Thanks

We have opened a ticket for this. After subsequent discussion with the forum support person we have installed BO Enterprise 3.1 SP2 fixed pack 2.5 on the server (Windows Server 2008 SP2). On the client side, we have also installed BO Enterprise 3.1 SP2 fixed pack 2.5 and Live Office SP2 fixed pack 2.5.
Once we tried to use the Web Intelligence document based on OLAP Universe in excel through Live Office it gives the following error.
"Failed to get the document information. (LO 26315)  A database error occured. The database error text is: Failed to set properties (The component Microsoft® OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services returned server error (Database 'Sales' does not exist.)). (WIS 10901)(6315)".

  • How do i stop workstation users from saving their network password or credentials for logging into a 2008 R2 Server workgroup?

I have a small workgroup of about 30 users that are a mix of XP Pro, 7 Pro and 8.1 desktop / laptop users that connect to a Windows 2008 R2 Server to use Quickbooks Enterprise, share files and printers. I dont want the users to be able to save their password
on their workstations, I want them to have to log in every time they connect to the server. How do I turn that off?Is the something on the server in Group Policy or a secruity setting that will not allow a saved credential for logging onto the server?

    Hi,
I have a small workgroup of about 30 users that are a mix of XP Pro, 7 Pro and 8.1 desktop / laptop users that connect to a Windows 2008 R2 Server to use Quickbooks Enterprise
By connecting to the server, do you mean users log on locally or through remote desktop services, or just through network to access network resources instead of log on to the server directly?
If it’s log on locally, please disable auto logon feature by configure the registry entry
AutoLogonCount to 0, it is under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.
If it’s remote desktop connection, please clear Logon Credentials for corresponding remote desktop sessions.
If it’s network access, then it is by design because network logon has a single-sign-on feature.
