Main Stage and Logic.
While using Main Stage I'd like to trigger a sequence in Logic, is this possible, and if so how? Thanks.
Why would you need both?
You use Mainstage when you want Logic's sounds, but don't want to run the full sequencer engine.
If you do want the sequencer engine, then just run Logic and use the sounds from within that. Using the two together seems... counter-productive...
But yes, you could use the MIDI IAC bus to send MIDI from Mainstage to Logic, but you'll also have to block that port in Logic otherwise both applications will receive the MIDI data at once, which is something you don't want.

Using main stage and Logic Pro at same time?
Hi all,
Is it possible to use Mainstage to play sounds and at the same time take the sounds and with a Firewire mixer record the out of mainstage into Logic Pro? I'd like to do this internally without using an additional soundcard.
I could use my FastTrack Pro to control the sounds in Mainstage and then use the Outputs of the FastTrack Pro to feed into the Firewire Mixer and then Record the performance in Logic Pro.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Earl Greenyep ... I do it like that all the time.
Soundflower is your friend for piping audio out of mainstage into an audio track in Logic.
http://cycling74.com/products/soundflower/
To capture midi, just create an empty software instrument in logic and leave it record enabled (i.e. uncheck "open library" when creating it, and then just never select a software instrument to go on the track). This will record all the midi messages you send to mainstage.
Granted, that only gets you so far. Playing that midi track in Logic isn't going to make any sound until you assign a software instrument to it, but it can be handy.
A lot of times I'll record jam sessions with my band this way. Usually I'm playing pretty simple patches. 90% of the time it's just the Steinway samples, or NI B42 for organ stuff. If we do something particularly brilliant, but I flubbed the keys, I'll go into logic and manually assign whatever patch I was using in mainstage to it, then edit the midi.
You could, in theory use something like the IAC device to route midi back OUT of Logic, into MainStage (and then capture the audio out of mainstage back into logic with soundflower). Essentially making MainStage into one big software instrument in Logic. I've never tried it, but others on this board have posted about doing this before, and I don't see why it wouldn't work.
I really wish Apple would just setup Mainstage to work this way out of the box. It'd be an incredibly powerful tool. -
Is there an arpegiator in main stage and where?
Is there an arpegiator in main stage ?If yes , where?
Hi
Short answer: no
There are 3rd party plugins with arpeggiators that might do the trick for you.

Where can I find wave burner and main stage?
I'm not sure if I should have this or no, but I cannot find wave burner or main stage. I have Logic Pro (version 8.0.2) Is this the same as Logic Studio? Also, I already have Compressor and Soundtrack Pro. Is this the same that comes with Logic Studio? Thanks
I have Logic Pro (version 8.0.2) Is this the same as Logic Studio?
What's printed on the big black box it came in?
I'm not sure if I should have this or no, but I cannot find wave burner or main stage.
Logic Studio is a bundle that contains Logic Pro, Mainstage, Waveburner and so on. It should all be installed by default. If you customised the install, then perhaps you chose not to install them. Just rerun the installer from your Logic Studio DVD.
Also, I already have Compressor and Soundtrack Pro.
Is this the same that comes with Logic Studio? Thanks
Yes, both those apps come with Final Cut Studio and Logic Studio. -
Accessing buttons on main stage from inside of a movie clip
Greetings...
here is the scenario:
- I have buttons on main stage, and a swf file which is loaded to scene using a LOADER in AS3
- this is a website, so the problem rises when user moves its cursor around the page and now buttons in main stage,
are still active since they are behind the loaded swf file.
- i would like to learn, how can i CODE inside the loaded SWF file, to either remove the buttons in main page, or remove
the event listeners. not sure if my case has anything to do with .Parent or .roo, (I want to access those main stage
buttons from the SWF file which is loaded)
- The general case is, i have SWF files loading inside another SWF files, is it possible to access items on each stage from
inside of loaded SWF files on that specific stage. Similarly i would be interested to learn about accessing main stage from inside
of movieclips running on stage. how can i access something not in present FLA file yet, in FLA file that is loading the page as SWF.
Thanks. If you load an swf into another using the Loader class, then the Loader itself is the parent of the loaded swf., so MovieClip(parent.parent) might help you to target the timeline that the Loader was born from. The more proper way to have a loaded file talk to a parent file is thru dispatching events that the parent assigns listeners for after the file has loaded. Here's a link to a posting that might help explain how to implement this.
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/470135?tstart=120
As for the buttons that you want to disable, you could either use the removeEventListener() method to remove the listeners you have assigned, or you could set their mouseEnabled property to false, or you could set their visible property to false. -
Logic/Main Stage won't run in Leopard. Repeated installation attempts.
Hopefully I can find some help here. I just upgrades from 10.4.11. Here are my steps -
Upgrade to 10.5.4, repaired permissions, ran all software updates
Main Stage crashes during loading, Logic crashes going through global/audio preferences
Installed 10.5.5 Combo update. No change. Repaired permissions. No change.
Trashed all preferences for all Logic Studio apps. No change.
Trashed everything Logic Studio, reinstalled Logic and Main Stage only. Installation successful. Ran software updates - successful. Still having the same problems. Main Stage crashes during load up. Logic crashes in preferences and settings windows. Repaired permissions. No change.
I have a M-Audio 410 running the old and new drivers didn't change. The problem persists regardless of using the internal audio source or the 410.
BTW, Pro Tools works perfectly. Reason works perfectly. iTunes/Quicktime work perfectly.
What can I do?

It could be Protools related, especially since in the Global audio preferences, where you say Logic crashes, you can also set DAE. Try disabling DAE in Protools first perhaps? If that doesn't help, try trash DAE prefs.
Btw, how does it crash? "Quit Unexpectedly"? Or freezing and "not responding"? Do you get a crash report?
regards, Erik.
ps. compliments for your summary of the problem, core info all there, including all you've excluded and tried already. We'll sort it out... -
Loading Plug in Sounds To Main Stage & Logic
I'm pretty new to this whole Audio Units world.
I just bought Komplete to add to my sounds in Logic. I've gone throw the whole install and the Native Instrument Packs show up under the Audio Units Manager as successfully validated, but nothing shows up in the Channel Settings. Am I missing a a step to this or something? How do I use the sounds from Komplete with Logic and Main Stage?A channel strip setting is a Logic thing and third party plug-in content won't show up there. A channel strip setting is a combination of plug-ins that make up a Logic mixer strip. You will need to create the channel strip setting you want, say Kontakt as the software instrument with reverb, compression and EQ then save that combination as a channel strip setting.
Obviously there's a load of content supplied with the installation of Logic but this is all made from Logic's built-in plug-in. Sounds for Kontakt need to be loaded using Kontakt UI which can then be saved as a channel setting for later use.
Make sense? cheers! -
Controlling video and timelines from main stage. Can it be done?
The set up:
I have 3 Symbols on the main Stage.
Each Symbol has a video and 4 text sections, with the text appearing below the video.
When the video reaches a certain point, the text changes (for instance, when the video is talking about Widget 1, Text 1 appears, then when it reaches the part about Widget 2, Text 2 appears, etc). Getting and keeping everything synchronized is very important.
The goal:
Having a button that will pause both the video AND the text when clicked so they stay in sync.
The fly in the ointment:
The goal is pretty easy to accomplish by simply having a button in the Symbol that will stop the text and pause the video. The problem is that since there are 3 Symbols on the stage, when the button is clicked, it needs to stop any other videos that are currently playing. For instance, someone is viewing Video 1, but they decide that they'd rather watch Video 3, so they click on the button for Video 3, but Video 1 (and its Timeline with the text) is still playing after they hit that button. How do I make it so that when they click on Button 3, Video 1 (and its timeline) stops playing?
The other fly:
Right now, there are only 3 of these video players on the Stage, but more may be added later. The code I use must be flexible enough to adapt, so I don't have to add additional lines of code to every button every time a new video is added.
ThanksPhil,
1. Could an Xserve be loaded with a standard version of OSX and operated as if it were a desktop system?
The general consensus is "yes" but you will lose some of the cool features like hardware monitoring, heat warnings, etc. which might or might not effect your ability to keep an eye on it in odd situations - like hot clubs or cramped DJ quarters.
2. Does the fact that I'm considering the "cool factor" as it relates to a rack-mounted server make me a complete geek?
THAT doesn't make you a geek. But it is an outward expression of your inner geek.
3. Is it odd that I'm okay with that?
Until you admit you have a problem you really can't seek help.
Seriously though... I don't think this is a great plan despite whatever respect I have for your geek chic.
1) You're paying for features and software you'll be throwing away.
2) Xserves are designed to run in server rooms and air-conditioned offices not in the field.
3) They are loud. No, really they are... perhaps not the best choice for a DJ.
4) If an iBook G4 is working for you currently then you don't need the processing power or through-put you're paying for with the Xserve.
I would suggest getting two low end Intel towers (or you might be able to get away with 1 tower and a mini or something cheap) and then mounting them in a glass lined rolling rack or something like an Xrack. If you're concerned they are "cool or geeky" enough then spend some of the thousands of dollars you'll save on some case mod neon, LED spotlights or those lighted USB cables or the like to "tech them up".
Congrats on embracing your inner geek,
=Tod

Set specific size and position of preloader's empty movieclip on main stage
hey, just wondering if it's possible to script an external preloader's empty movie clip to be of a specific size and position on the main stage? here's the script i've got for the preloader so far:
var my_pb:mx.controls.ProgressBar;
my_pb.mode = "manual";
this.createEmptyMovieClip("Portfolio", 999);
var my_mcl:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
var mclListener:Object = new Object();
mclListener.onLoadStart = function(target_mc:MovieClip):Void {
my_pb.label = "LOADING: " + target_mc._name;
mclListener.onLoadProgress = function(target_mc:MovieClip, numBytesLoaded:Number, numBytesTotal:Number):Void {
var pctLoaded:Number = Math.ceil(100 * (numBytesLoaded / numBytesTotal));
my_pb.setProgress(numBytesLoaded, numBytesTotal);
my_mcl.addListener(mclListener);
my_mcl.loadClip("Creative-Outrage_External.swf", Portfolio);
thanks in advance.i could load the movies that way or if i tell my main movie to load the same preloader in an empty movieclip, instead of on the main timeline. however, this way it all looks great, but the buttons on the main timeline won't respond to user events from the external swfs.

Problems with Current use of Main Stage on tour as live rig.....
Set up...
•MacBook 2.2 Ghz
4 GB ram
System 10.5.2
(airport off when using MainStage)
•MOTU Ultralite connected via Firewire (and powered by AC adapter)
•M-Audio Axiom 61 Controller (connected via USB)
•M-Audio Expression Pedal
•M-Audio Sustain Pedal
•Main Stage 1.0.2
•Motion Sound Stereo Keyboard Amp
I'm using this as my live keyboard rig with the band I play keys and lap steel in (Son Volt). We've been on tour for about a month, the set up worked flawlessly until about a week ago when it started developing problems I've been unable to figure out/fix. Here is a brief description of my "Concert"...
•I have 1 Concert.
•I don't think I am using a "set", if I even know what one is, a sub set in a concert I'm guessing...I think I just have a Concert.
•There are 14 or so Patches in my Concert.
•All are culled from sounds in logic/garageband, Organs, pianos, wurlitzer, vox, rhodes, a couple variations, and one sound that has piano with a pad sound along with it. None are that complicated, though the way they react to the controllers, especially the volume pedal as they are scrolled through seems a little unpredictable.
•The problem started about a week ago....we would start our set, and I'd get into it, use a couple sounds, then I'd use the sound with the Piano and Pad stacked, this would play fine, but then, when I'd let the rig sit dormant after using that sound, when I'd come back to it after playing steel on a couple songs, the rig would produce no sound. It would also stop showing that it was receiving MIDI info, at least based on looking at the keyboard-display that shows the keys you've played as you play them. I'd switch to other sounds, move the controllers...no-go. I'd be forced to quit and re-start the program. A hassle during live performance, to say the least.
•I haven't had a lot of time to troubleshoot this, and honestly my MIDI skills are kinda weak, but here is what I tried...
•I started over, and basically made the concert over from scratch, it works fine at soundcheck or when I mess with it...but in performance it always goes down OR...even more disturbing, now it has taken to playing random notes, not even with the currently selected sound, and freezing with those notes in play, held down. They are unstoppable, even with changing the sound, and once again, a re-start is required (I have found the MUTE button on the MainStage window, but no "panic" button or the like.)
•At tonights show I had to restart twice, and that stacked sound, which I'm coming more and more to feel like is somehow the culprit, didn't even sound completely when selected before using (the piano sound only was reproduced, the "pad" sound didn't sound.
Any suggestion about what to try? Could this have something to do with running out of RAM (the MacBook is Maxed and I'm not including too many Patches in my Concert)? Conflicting controller settings? The keyboard controller itself (it seems unlikely). Some other simple set up, configuration or preference I might be unaware of? I set up my Concert with the sounds and patches available, without any consideration for any "differences" they might have, configuration or controller-wise. I just assumed I could drag em' all in there and use them no prob. Maybe I'm mistaken, but, if anyone has any good ideas or suggestions on how I might make this rig more reliable it'd be much appreciated. I LOVE the sounds, and don't want to have to (what I consider) step down to the sounds of my XP-30 or pony up for a Nord.
Thanks in advance, Mark.Try using the application 'console' in the Utilities folder. Make sure you have both the system and console logs open from the File Menu. I resize both windows to @ 1-2 inches tall across the bottom of your screen.
If there are any USB or firewire issues. There are ways to search the logs back in time, if you know the time and date the problem occurred, look for that weeks log file (use help) search that day, or search for resets.
One other, try to keep lower speed USB devices together on one usb port. And put all the high speed devices on the other, faster with faster bus, and slow on a slower bus.
System profiler shows which usb devices are on the 'USB High-Speed Bus (faster) and USB Bus (slower)'. Check with M- Audio and MOTU for USB port speed configuration they are.
Hope it helps -
Hello,
I'm new with edge animate, but i fell in love with it.
I'd like to know, is it possible to load different html pages dynamically in the main stage in order to avoid the preloader to be load?
I can figure out how to save all the pages of the site, but i can't merge them in a continuous animated browsing experience.
As sample.
I've got a index.html and home.html, how to switch form index to home without having a clear division between the two pages?
I can place all the animations within a file and this will allow me to have a continuous surfing experience but it won't generate specific and google indexable pages within the site.
Example, index.html will generate www.mysite.com, home will generate www.mysite.com/home. How ho switch dinamically between them and integrate them in a unique fading experience?
Thanks in advance for any help. I'm a newby, but i would like to learn.
Fea.Look into using the Loader class to load the swf files. If you want to have it happen in different frames then you can put the code into the different frames.

Problems with Presonus Firestudio and Logic
I am having problems with compatability with my brand new Presonus Firestudio recording interface and Logic pro 8. I am new to logic but not to home recording, and i cant understand what might be the problem. When i use the firestudio with garageband it works easily. In the garageband sound preferences there are input AND output channels that the user can define. (i.e. you can set your input channels to come from the firestudio while the output channels go to the computer speakers or headphone jacks or whatever you define it as).
From what i have seen in logic, there is only one option for your audio settings. when in preferences and under audio, there is a "device" setting in which you can define your audio device. Wheather this is input AND output for the program, i do not know. but the problem i am experiencing is that whenever i choose the firepod as the input device, no sound from logic will play from the speakers whatsoever. My first thought was that maybe ouput was going straight to the firestudio, but after plugging headphones into it this also did not work. Has anyone had success getting their firestudio to work in logic? if so let me know what settings you had to use, and how you got to moniter your input from from the firestudio via your computer.
p.s.
another WIERD problem i have run into, is that if i shut off the firestudio while logic is open, alot of times it will shut down my whole computer. i have never heard of this happening. what am i doing wrong?
thanks!SydSeale wrote:

ah, I was hoping to find my solution here, but alas the thread is gone...
I recently bought a Macbook running Leopard, and am having difficulties with my PreSonus Firestudio Project thru Logic and Mainstage. I can get audio input and output just fine, but there's a ton of distortion/crackle. Kickstarting the sample rate seems to clear it up for a minute or two, but then the crackle comes back. The recorded tracks sound clean if I unplug the Firestudio, so apparently it's only in the monitoring stage?
On the PreSonus board, they're claiming it's Apple who needs to update drivers for Leopard; PreSonus says the "Firestudio Project is Leopard compatible."

Problem with stage and Error #1034
Hi!
Well I'm newbie in AS, writing it only for a 5 days and I've come across error which gives me a lot headache. I was searching for solution to it for quite some time now and didnt understand what I suppose to do with solution.
So, here is my problem if someone is willing to take a look at it.
Error:

I have a lot of layers and movieclips inside my fla and so pasting all of my code isn' t an option, cause there is a lot of newb, memory wasting programming it could take hours for someone to look into it.
Problem here is, if I understood it right, that my stage isn't a movieclip as I referenced it, most probably in this section of code:
MovieClip(parent).gotoAndPlay("result"); // in stage / association_mc
Didn't have that error while doing same thing in other movieclips like:
MovieClip(parent).gotoAndPlay("home"); // in stage / instructions_mc
And last question is: How can reference my main stage? I'm using MovieClip(parent) to get to it, but I see that everyone using just stage object from Stage class
Thank you in advance!
Marioalso reports call to undefined method :/

edit:
After numerous checking code all over again and testing and tracing everything i found out that problem occurs when going to result label at Frame 31 when playing the result_mc movie.
going from different movieclip to it gives this errors

found on one forum this answer, maybe it will help someone else
I've just had the same problem myself. A bit of detective work revealed that it has nothing to do with the code, but occurs when:
The swf is being run from a remote server.
You have a custom class on the stage which has an instance name.
The class is NOT declared as "Export in first frame".
An instance of the class doesn't appear on the first frame of the movie.
So the solution, in my case, was just to tick "Export in first frame" in the library symbol linkage options. This made everything work fine, but if anyone knows why this is then I'd be interested to know. -
How do I interact between stage and classes?
Hi,
I have asked this question before, and all I got is "Go back
to reading beginner books", so I'm hoping that someone here is
willing to actually answer my question as opposed to brushing me
off because they were unwilling to help...
And yes, I have read books on the topic and gone through tons
of the documentation and not found the answer to this. I have
ActionScript 1 and JavaScript experience, so this whole business
shouldn't be this hard.
I am using ActionScript 3 in Flash CS3.
My problem is this:
I need to find out how to send commands between stuff on the
stage and stuff that's defined in a class.
I have had this issue for ages and kept trying to find ways
around it since so far I haven't been able to find help for it.
For example:
When using a document class, how can I access the current
frame number of the Stage?
Or using a document class, how can I access any object (like
a MovieClip with instance name) that was put on the stage using the
IDE?
Currently, to be more specific, I am trying to do something
really simple:
Make a button work on my stage that is not always visible.
With AS3 that's not as easy anymore as it used to be.
So what I did now is create the button in the document class,
used addChild and set it to alpha = 0.
Now, when the Stage reaches specific frames (i.e. ones with
labels, and I got this part figured out), it is supposed to make
the button visible. Then I can add event listeners and stuff, and I
can figure that part out myself.
I don't know how to access the stage frame number from the
document class, so I put it into a frame script in frame 1, but now
this script cannot access the button that is defined in the
document class.
It's driving me bananas...
PLEASE, someone here, can someone please explain to me how I
can make this work?
I have seen plenty of diagrams of the Display List and the
Object Hierarchy, but none of that explains how to actually USE any
of it...
Thanks so much in advance to anyone who is willing to spend
some time to answer!Well, first of all, I have to say that AS3 has basically been
designed to be difficult on purpose, in that all this interaction
between objects is purposefully very strict. For this reason, I
still use AS2 for all my basic Flash work. AS3 is just a lot more
involved, a lot more strict, a lot less forgiving... you need a lot
of experience with it before it starts to make sense.
Now, I think I might have a few specific answers to your
questions:
From any DisplayObject (this includes any Document class,
which has to extend MovieClip or in some cases Sprite) you can
access the Stage using the 'stage' property.
However, stage is probably not exactly what you want, you
want the main timeline, which is the child of stage. To access the
main timeline, you can use the 'root' property of any
DisplayObject.
However, unless you have strict mode off, Flash won't let you
just say "root.myMovieClip" because the root property is of the
type DisplayObject, which is not a dynamic class (meaning you can't
add properties to it) and it has no built in property "myMovieClip"
so it thinks you made a mistake. So you have to "cast" the root
property as a MovieClip, which *is* dynamic so it will let you try
to reference anything on it (like AS1/2 did for everything.)
So what all that means is this should work from inside you
document class:
(root as MovieClip).myMovieClip
or
MovieClip(root).myMovieClip
Either will successfully reference a MovieClip you had put on
the main stage in the IDE and named "myMovieClip".
Rather than setting the alpha to 0, try setting visible to
false. I think this will disable all interactive events, where
simply setting alpha to 0 would make it still be interactive.
