Main start-up drive icon on desk-top

Getting up and running on my new mac-pro - probably a silly question but here goes:- the drive name has disappeared from the main start-up drive icon on my desktop. Don't know why as I've not touched disk utility since formatting my three new drives and have been using FCP for editing for a month now. Great system! Any help as to what happened would be much appreciated. Thanks. timod.

Select the drive icon, press COMMAND-I to open Get Info window. In Name and Extensions section enter "Macintosh HD" without quotes, then close window.

How do I merge external drive images to desk top drive within the same master catalog?

I have about 900 raw files on an external drive. I edited those files using my master catalog using a laptop while still travelling. When I got home, I copied the master catalog from the external drive to the desk top, then opened the master catalog on my desktop. I can see the edited images on the external drive. So far so good.
I want to copy (add) the edited images to my desk top. I tried to export the images as a new catalog and then import it into the desire location on my desktop drive. However, LR5 does not allow that. I get this message: "There is nothing new in the catalog you have selected. All of the catalog's photos are up to date in this catalog." Yes, but the edited images are not on my desktop.....
I also tried to Import from the external drive and then Copy the files to the desktop, but then I lose all of the work done in the develop module and the keywords.
I watched Kost's LR 3 video on merging catalogs, but she dodges the question of how to deal with this issue since the "merge" is within the same catalog.
I'm using LR5 with Windows 7.
Any suggestions would be immensely appreciated as I've spent hours trying to resolve this problem.

Okay, so I would copy (not move) the folders/photos to the internal HD, keeping them in the same folder hierarchy as they are in now on the external HD. Yes, of course the drive name will be different, but other than that the folder path and file name should be the same.
Then, open the LR catalog that indexes the files and Update Folder Location (details are here: http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm, scroll down to the "Update Folder Location" section)
Then, once that is complete and everything is working in your LR catalog, with no question marks on the photos or folders, optionally delete the photos on the external HD.

Drag the Word icon back to where it belongs.
Applications > Microsoft Office 2011 > Put Word there.
I'm assuming you have Office 2011. If you have 2008 there should be a similar location to put Word.

If you have upgraded to Mavericks, then it sounds like maybe a Notification Alert without a Banner.
To check, click on the three bars up on the right side of your menu bar.

Hit option and command keys then 2 to open full page ilnternet screen. Forgot I wasn't in Safari and the icons on my desk top scrambled. Can I reverse this action with key strokes?

IMac G3 Panther, Why do I have three hard drives on my desk top and how do I combine them into one?

Trying to get an old iMac up to be enough for my four year old to go on the internet. Upgraded to panther and put an airport card in. Now problems;
1. It can connect to my airport express, but not if I have the password enabled, then it won't, even if I put the password in.
2. There are 3 hard drives showing on the desk top, with the space divided between them.
3. I've been trying to download an old version of flash, but it never finishes and says it can't write the file or something like that. I kind of think it has to do with the file being to large and since the hard drive is divided, it won't fit.
Let me know if anybody can help and thank you for your time....

Your old iMac can only connect to a WEP network, and yours is probably WPA. As far as the partitions are concerned, if you don't need any any of the data on it, use your Panther disc and erase and fomat it as one partition.

All of a sudden I cannot get anything showing on my desk top when I plug my memory sticks in to open them. When I remove them it says DEVICE REMOVAL etc.

Choose Preferences from the Finder menu,
Click the General icon on the toolbar,
Select "External Disk" and "CDs,DVDs" in the "Show these items on the desktop:" section.

Deleted stack icon on desk top

I am going to sound really stupid. My stack icon on the desk top disappeared with a little smoke cloud, how do i get it back?

Go to Finder and then drag the icon back down to the dock. You cannot delete items from within the Stacks view. You have to go to Finder and then find the folder you want to delete the file from and delete it from there.

My Mac Tower missing 2nd built in hard drive icon from the top right corner of my monitor?

Stick a new drive in a free bay. Format it with Disk Utility. And then use a backup utility like Carbon Copy Cloner to copy your current drive to the new drive essentially making them equivalent. Then change Startup Disk system preferences to use the new drive and reboot (from your new drive) and continue on your merry way.
Keep the original as a backup.

It may be that your Desktop view options are set to sort icons on your desk.
You can change the size of icons, arrange them in a grid, and set other preferences for items on your desktop by changing the view options on your desktop. To change your desktop view options, click the desktop, and then choose View > Show View Options from menu bar. You can try the different settings to see which ones you like—you will immediately see the effects of your changes.

I have succesfully replaced firefox 4.0.1 with 3.6.2 as I have a Mac Mini but not the intel chip. Everything works fine except I can't get rid of the install window and the firefox logo in a simulated drive on my desk top home screen.

When viewing videos, they would seem to running in slow motion. I thought that by reverting back to an older version that was compatible with my system that I might correct the problem.

Does the iPod work OK?
Does it charge when connect to the computer?
Does it appear in My Computer?
Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Compare with the iPod that does work/connect.
I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1
