Mainboard doesn't recognize my cpu cooler

I have Vantec Aeroflow VA4-C7040 Socket-A
but whenever i boot up my cpu it says cpu fan is not
working even thouhg it is working great
i plugged cpu fan correctly
is ther anyone who could help me? ?(

I just discovered the same situation with my MSI-6585 (648 MAX L) mainboard.
I just replaced my stock Intel Heatsink and Fan with the Vantec AeroFlow VP4-C7040.
When I did, I started hearing an annoying beep.  A peek in the bios shows the CPU Fan RPM Speed reading at 0.  I disabled the beep.
I use a Vantec Nexus Fan Control Panel, and it correctly displays the fan's speed and also allows me to control it through the on-face pot.  For those who think it's because the RPM is too low for the motherboard to read, think again.  I can vary the RPM between 2400 and 5200 rpm, and I never get a motherboard reading.  The fan controller seems to work without a hitch.
Incidentally, just for grins I hooked up my stock Intel fan again and it works fine, both directly connected to the 648 MAX and when connected to the Nexus Panel.  From both connections I can get the RPM reading from the motherboard no problem.
I tried hooking up the Aeroflow directly to the 648 MAX to take the Nexus panel out of the loop, and got the same result: CPU FAN RPM=ZERO.
It could be that MSI is using older code that isn't able to decipher the speeds on some of the newer fans.  Or maybe it has something to do with the fact that the AeroFlow uses a TMD (Tip Magnetic Driving) fan as opposed to a traditional brushless rotor.
Annoying, but not terribly.  Would be nice if it worked, though.

  • Installer doesn't recognize Giga CPU accelerator

    Hello,
I'm hoping someone in the Mac community can help me out here, because I've done a ton of on-line info searching to no avail.
I am trying to install v10.5 on my old G4. A few years ago I bought a CPU accelerator, which runs at 1.8 GHz. So I actually meet the minimum system requirements for CPU speed. But when I boot up from the installation CD, it tells me I don't meet the requirements.
I believe the other requirements are fine. I have 640 MB of RAM, more than the required 512. I have loads of disk space, more than the 9-12 GB recommended. So I don't see what else could be the problem, other than the installer is somehow not recognizing the CPU accelerator.
Has anyone else run into this problem, and figured out how to fix it? I'd rather not have to go the "hack the disk image" route.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
Not all CPU accelerators are recognized by Leopard. Leopard only sees the original CPU and speed. We found this out last year when Leopard came out. Some accelerators have Leopard updates, others did/do not.
If you cannot update your accelerator you might try installing Leopard via target disk mode from a second computer, PPC of course, that does meet the specs. No guarantee that after all that the system will run or if it does run it may run at original speed.
Also even 640MB RAM is a bit low for running Leopard on a G4. Best to max it out. And here again, we discovered that Leopard is very fussy about RAM. It tests and requires the RAM to meet or exceed all the Apple specs. No skimping here or there. Just because Tiger runs on the RAM does not mean Leopard will.

  • !!!!!I CAN'T OVERCLOCK MY CPU. BIOS DOESN'T RECOGNIZE MY AMD ATHLON XP-MOBILE

    My configuration is this:
    Mainboard: MSI K7N2-DELTA2-FSR
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP-Mobile 2500+ 1855MHZ
    Video Card: CAPTIVA Nvidia 6600GT 128MB 128bit
Hard disk: Internal Maxtor DiamonMax 10 300GB S-ATA 16MB Buffer
Audio Card: Sound Blaster Audigy Live 5.1 24bit
    Power Supply: 400WATT
    DVD drive: LG 16X
SO I OVERCLOCK MY CPU UNTIL 3200+ (2200mhz), AND IF I WANT TO OVERCLOCK MORE DURING "POST", BIOS DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THE NEW VALUE (ES: FSB 200  / X11.5  = 2300mhz . DOESN'T RECOGNIZE).
PLEASE HELP ME OR CAN YOU TELL ME HOW CAN I RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM???
    THANKS A LOT. BYE

Please furnish us some more info concerning the memory you are using and power output of the 3.3v - 5v -12v rails of your power supply along with the name of its manufacturer.
Some mobile cpus start up with a lower multiplier and then go to the bios to use the preset settings in the bios.  If the cpu can't start with the bios settings, it remains at its start up values.  Your mobile may not be able to run at a multiplier of 11.5 with a 200fsb.  Drop its fsb back to 166 (stock fsb 133) and see if you can run it at its rated multiplier of 14.  That will equal 2324mhz.
Overclocking is finding a balance between the fsb and the multiplier that allows you to get the most stable speed out of the cpu.
You also have not mentioned what vcore voltage that you are using or the temps.
The memory that I'm using are : V-Data 512x2 MB DDR CL 2,5
    The power supply is 400watt chassis, 3,3V, 12V, 5V.
I tell you that with the mainboard ASUS I did't have this problem with the multiplier because I put 11.5 x 200Fsb.

  • [865PE/G Neo2 Series] Zalman CPU cooler doesn't fit, Northbridge Sink remove?

    Hi,
I have a problem fitting a Zalman (CNPS7000B-Cu) cpu cooler - the MSI northbridge sink is too high and too close to the cpu.
Can I replace the NB sink with one with a lower profile?
( Incidently, I'm not overclocking, although I do use this machine as an audio machine and it does get quite hot.
    - If I can replace - any recommendations?
    - If not - any recommendations for a reasonably priced and quiet cooler that will fit (i.e with a narrow profile).

I had the same problem on my 865PE Neo2-PFS Platinum Edition mobo. Zalman's website indicated that the CNPS7000a-AlCu fits on this board, but it doesn't. The diagonally placed northbridge heatsink is in the way. I originally thought I'd bend a few of the Zalman's fins out of the way, but then I decided if I could do something with the northbridge heatsink. I removed the northbridge heatsink and removed the 2 fins that were in the the way of the Zalman. I wanted to repalce the modded northbridge heatsink using some AS5 but the stock thermal goo (some pink stuff) was impossible to get off, even with alcohol or acetone. So I smeared some AS5 on anyway and just mooshed the heatsink back on with the pink junk and AS5.
I noticed that the northbridge gets really hot at stock speeds (200 FSB). I'm planning on overclocking my 2.4C to 3GHz (250 FSB) today, so I hope the northbridge doesn't burn up. Gonna aim a fan at it and hope for the best.
Hope the "bend 2 fins off the northbridge heatsink mod" helps all you guys that want to put Zalman's on your CPU's.

  • Xfce-ì4-cpufreq-plugin doesn't recognize CPU (x86_64)

I've a laptop with an Intel i7 2.50 GHz processor and archlinux, but xfce4-cpufreq-plugin doesn't seem to recognize any CPU.
In the properties menu (from the panel) I can only access labels settings (show frame, show CPU icon etc), nothing else, nor the plugin displays anything except the CPU icon.
Is the 64bit processor supported by this plugin? Couldn't find any answer on google but I found that ARM 64 bit processors aren't supported yet(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=926772). And if my CPU is supported, how to make it work??

If you are running the latest kernel (3.10) your cpu is likely using the new intel_pstate driver for cpufreq, which does things a bit different and also doesn't expose the usual files for cpufreq in /sys/... Since the xfce4-cpufreq-plugin most likely uses these files it won't work with the new driver.

  • My MSI KT3-ULTRA2 doesn't work with my CPU cooler!!

My MSI KT3-ULTRA2 doesn't work with my CPU cooler!!
I've got an MSI KT3-ULTRA2 mainbord, and I have a NEOLEC VENEZIA TB Cooler. But when I attach my NEOLEC cooler and I start the machine, the machine shuts down within a couple of seconds, and I get nothing to see on my screen. The weird thing is when I turn the PC on, the cooler starts rotating so it can't be broke, but then the pc shuts down i a couple of secs. So pleezze anybody help me!!
The weird thing is that I also have a coolermaster cooler, and that one works fine. But the problem is that this coolermaster is designed for AMD XP 1900+, and I ahve an AMD XP 2200+ that's why I bought the Neolec Venezia TB cooler.

one easy thing to watch for... see if the heatsink or fan is in contact with any part of the motherboard, like... if it is too big and touches something that normally wouldn't be in contact with a fan or heatsink.  If so, it could be shorting it.

    Hi everybody,
I tested one at a time in the pci-e 2 and works.
And do the same on Pci-e nº1. works fine the 2 card.
"Several possibles. If testing a card by itself in the second slot does not work, then either there is a problem with an errant standoff or other item shorting underneath the mainboard. The other most common reason is CPU socket pin(s) bent or damaged or the CPU cooler mouinted incorrectly or unevenly torqued.
I don´t  believe it the pins because if you look at the GPU-Z recognizes the two cards.
And appears on device manager the to cards.
I am using SO w7 ultimate, and the board bios is the last version.
Is something else must be some setting in bios, and i don´t no...

  • Core i7 cpu cooler

I would like to buy a cpu cooler for my core i7. Which ones are good in the price range $30-$50. I don't want to spend a lot on cpu cooler. I dont intend to overclock beyond 3.5Ghz.

The regular Xigmatek HDT-S1283 is $33 right now at Newegg, with a $10 rebate. That along with the ACK-I7361 through-board 1366 mount will cost less (after rebate) than the Dark Knight version.
I have three HDT-S1283 HSFs in use right now. One on a Q6600, one on an E2160, and the last is on an i7 920 I installed last night. For LGA 775, it doesn't matter what direction the HSF is mounted, but for the wider 1366 it does. Pay attention to the orientation of your CPU socket. The long edge of the HDT-S1283's base is perpendicular to the fins. If you mount it so the fins are parallel to the socket's widest dimension, you'll end up not covering the sides of the CPU cap. On the Eclipse SLI, you'll be mounting it so it blows to the left or right of the socket (right being down over the card area), not out the back over the I/O plate area.

  • CPU Cooler Recommendation

    Hi,
I'm looking for recommendations for a decent CPU cooler. Price isn't really an issue.
I recently bought the ASUS Star Ice CPU cooler, couldn't get my MB to work and then broke the fan while fumbling around with it. So don't recommend that one, it maybe good but I don't like it anymore. I also want a CPU cooler that I just can connect to the MB connector and have SpeedFan control its fan, not some external knob etc. It also shouldn't be too heavy. A little above intel specs is OK but not too much.
    Looking forward for recommendations.

The zalman sink is really quite beyond belief. Get this: at idle and moderate load it keeps my Northwood cool enough with the fan turned off. I found this out quite by accident one day when I noticed my idle temps were about five degrees higher than they ought to be. I figured something was running in the background and spent ten minutes trying to figure out what spyware or virus was secretly using my CPU cycles before I noticed that the CPU fan read 0 RPM. I'd accidentally pulled the wire out while working inside the case. I'm sure this would have fallen short had I pulled up anything really demanding, but I was pretty impressed The downside, however, is that the fan, even at full power, doesn't seem to take full advantage of the sink. I've been obsessed with lowering my temps lately, so I dug out an old p4 stock cooler, cannibalized it, and mounted the fan such that it blows across the sink, i.e. perpendicular to the sink fan such that it's blowing directly toward my exhaust fans.  I haven't stressed tested it yet, but my idle temps dropped by something ridiculous like six degrees. As in, my CPU now idles 2-3 degrees cooler than my case. Hence, it's pretty clear to me that the fan just isn't moving enough air to take advantage of the sink's thermal properties. And trust me when I say that the problem is not the amount of air moving through my case: the thing practically hovers. I'm not sure whether the zalman fan can be replaced (I intend to check the next time I have good reason to remove it); if so, mounting one of those 92 mm chop-your-finger-off thermalake (sp?) tornado fans on it would basically do the trick. I appreciate the quiet cooling concept, but I see every extra decibel as added time between me and the moment when something blows up
