Hi everyone.
Hope you experts can help.

Board Saturn (Phoenix+) MS-6309 v N1996 ATX Socket 370 850Mhz.
Using BIOS upgrade V2-3B2, 1-25-2002 (from boot).
In Amibios Easy Setup it displays ver 1.30.
Faults
On clean install WinXP or Win2k hangs every time on setup, loading files (windows executive) form CD or boot diskettes.
On warm boot, I receive Pri master error, run setup.
In Amibios Main, the Auto-Detect IDE hard disks, selects correct devices, but on returning are lost or displayed as SECMa CDRom, SECSlv CDRom with HD detected.
Isolated, PCI cards and DVD ROM, swapped cables, proven drive with install CD and cables on another PC (all work ok), but still same fault.
Harddrive accepts Win2K and XP with same media and cables on a Compaq.
Hardware.
512 mb ram
20gig W/Digital HD, will change to 80gig. (Pri Mast)
dvd rom- Samsung mod sd608. (Sec Mast)

I saw your post in another forum while I was doing a search in google as well.
Seems like it's the controller or the NB chip problem.
HiNovJoe.
Posted fault in a few forums to speed up narrowing things down.
Can you expand on "seems its the controller or NB chip problem".
Its strange the installation hangs at "setup is loading win exec files", then when the drive is removed and Win2K is installed on the drive in another PC, replaced it then hangs in "Starting Windows" seemingly after setup.
Looking for the manual in forums OEM rogue motherboard.
Cheers for looking.

  • Cannot install OS (system hangs) on K7N2GM-L

I've just put together a (mostly) new system.  The system posts OK, but when I try to install either Slackware or Win2k, the system hangs.  Slackware consistently hangs after recognizing the cd drive, with a message about a kernel bug, while Win2k hangs while loading hardware files, with a message about a registry error (As in a hardware registry, not the windows registry).  At one point, I was able to get slackware further in the install process, and even partitioned the hd, but I kept getting segfaults and then it would crash.
[Update]:  Slackware actually hangs in one of two places.  Sometimes it hangs right after initializing the Ramdisk, at which poing it gives an eror about being "Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virual address"  I get the CD error when FSB spectrum is set to .50, I get the ramdisk error when it is set to 1.00
    Things I've tried:
I've tested both ram sticks individually.
I've tried relaxing the memory timings, and changing the ram voltage.
    I've tried disabling external cache.
    Other info:
    System temperature: 30 degrees celsius
    CPU temp: 50 degrees celsius
I had to manually tweak the FSB to 166 (was being registered at 100) and set the FSB/DDR ratio to 1:1 (otherwise my PC2700 showed a 100mhz clock)
Voltages appear to be within tolerance.
Can anyone suggest what might be wrong?  My power supply is rather cheap, but again, voltages look OK in the bios, and would that create such consistent problems?  Is it my RAM?  Or do I just have a faulty motherboard or CPU?
I've been at this for hours and I'm going nuts.  Please help!

qui3ote it's so hard to say just exactly what your rig is going to take to run properly...some ppl spend hours trying different component configurations trying to make them work together only to find out that they have 1 or even 2 components in the "mix" failing at the same time thus leaving them to scratch their heads in disbelievement...I've been there myself...your best bet is to do as the "pro" builders do...
Homework, homework, homework...many of us now look around the net for others who have already built systems around a certain motherboard not being the first pioneers to venture into the unknown...saving ourselves countless hours because we've taken the time to talk to the experienced out there as to what will and will not work...
Some of us who do build a lot of systems for other folx out there take the time to buy different brands of memory, PSU's, CPU's, MB's, etc...and play with different configs in order to find "what works" and then post results in different forums in order to let others know what they've tried and not tried...this usually takes a bit of capital in order to buy what's known as "troubleshooting parts" and can get quite expensive...
To the occasional home builder: The days of buying and building with no problems is long past...with todays high speed systems, a lot of these home builders only remember the brand names that they used in the past thinking that they can go out and buy a really full featured high end MB, cheap generic or "Value" RAM memory, use the same case (usually 3 to 5 yrs old with a PSU in it that couldn't jump start someone's heart if they were dying, much less start up a power hungry high end gaming rig), as well as other peripherals...
Then they head on down to the MB mfg's website (if they even have one these days) and (thankfully not in your case) begin to trash and bash the company about how they have a crappy product, blah, blah, blah...
See where I'm going with this? In any case, as long winded as I've been here, you must now rise above the "occasional home builder" status and approach building with a new outlook as to "how to" and do that homework if you don't want to end up in this boat each and everytime...technology advances and it's up to us humans to advance our thought processes with it...
I wish you luck in your build here...my biggest advice I can give you atm is to go read the sticky posts at the top of the forum for some excellent tips on Memory, troubleshooting, etc, in order to gain some insight into how to do what you're doing...also, as Raven here points out, that PSU is way out of it's league in being able to supply the power needed for the build you're doing...take a step up into the world of high speed computing and lay down some cash for some higher end components that will leave you tearing out less of your hair and give you some peace of mind...
Apacer, OCZ, Corsair, Infineon, and, of course, Mushkin are all decent memory lines that have been known to work with these MB's...DO NOT buy cheap "Value" RAM memory for your board, it's likely to only give you more headaches...Mid to high end memory will cost you considerably more money but will save you countless hours of time trying to troubleshoot which to me is more valuable these days...a PSU with AT LEAST the amperage specs that Raven lists in his post, +3.3v-28, +5v-35A, +12V-18A, or even better is in most cases a requirement these days...and yes you're going to spend 60 to 100 dollars US or more to get one that gives you that spec...sales are a good thing to watch for all of this...
Sorry to go on for so long but I just wanted to give you some insight into the "new age" of computer building! Hope I've enlightened some things for you...if not sorry I rambled on so much *chuckles*
Good luck and let us know if you need any more help!

  • K8N neo3 hangs and restarts

Hi, i have a problem with the k8n neo3 mainboard, it restarts and hangs randomly. These problems occur randomly with no visible pattern.
The pc is composed of a Sempron (palermo) 3000+, two pci cards (sound and network), a pair of Samsung ddr 400 memory, a radeon 9500 AGP card plugged into the AGR slot, and an outdated 300w atx1 power supply.
There is another problem too, some usb devices from the external ports when plugged at start don't work until they are re-plugged when the OS has been fully loaded.
What can be the cause of these problems?
I think that it can be some incompatibility with the agr slot or the power supply is not cappable to supply enough power.
    Thanks

The ram are OK, used it in a k7n2 for month without a single hang.
Just to be sure, run your system with just one stick at a time (try both sticks of course) and see if it still hangs.  If it doesn't hang with just one stick, then it's a memory issue or your mobo doesn't like those RAMs in pairs for some reason.
If either stick alone still hangs like before, try swapping in RAM from another computer.  And if using another computer's known-to-work RAM still hangs, then it's pretty conclusive that it's not a memory issue.
Costs you nothing to find out, so I'd check and make sure before exploring other options (like replacing the PSU).
    Good luck.

  • GeForce-FX5200 tv-out and graphic problem...

    Celeron 1 GHz
    Mainboard MSI 6309 v2
    MSI GeForce-FX 5200 128MB
    Windows XP
Does it just software problem ? Or is it hardware problem ?
    Problem is:
When I'm turning on tv-out in nview on my TV screen is very very weird,
it's dark but I can see desktop etc and colours are very weird, looks like
it is showing up in 16 colors.
chkdsk on startup when I do hard reset, screen that should be blue is yellow
and it's in 16 colours too.
    I don't get it. Any suggestions ?
Btw I wanted to try install windows98 and check if this is software problem
but when I type setup and hit enter nothing happen, only black screen and everything
what can I do is restart computer.
Is it really my graphic card ? I hope it's something in BIOS or in software cause I have warranty to this card but I will have to wait 14 days before I will get it back.
    Sorry for my language.
And I almost forgot, one month ago everything was ok and then out of nowhere...

hey guys i had this problem since quite long...even changed my cable 2 times. But now with one setting i have solved half of the problem. Now the video is coming in the TV but no sound. In n97 go to setting then go to phone then go to accessories then go to TV out. Changed Pal to NTSC and it started shoing atleast video on my TV. Can anyone help how to get the sound also.

  • Hang when starting JDev in Win2k server...

I've searched this forum and in fact quite a lot posts are saying that they have the same problem. When starting the JDeveloper in windows 2000, after loading the addins it hangs and leaving the splash screen alone :) Many replies said JDeveloper 3.1.1.2 is win2k certified. Ok, here is another unsuccessful case, here is the config of my machine:
    PII 333 192MB Ram
    Windows 2000 server SP1 installed
    MS Visual Studio SP4
MS Office 2000 Sevice Release 1a
Default IE version bundled with windows 2000
    JRE 1.3 international version
    System locale: English (United States)
    Installed Languages:
Western Europe and United States (Default)
    Traditional Chinese
    Simplified Chinese
    Japanese
And I haven't install any Oracle database and OCI yet. I can say my system config is "clean" enough as all softwares are new installation with most updated patch. And when I set the default language to others (eg. trad. chin.) the JDev even cannot start (only hanged minimized icon in task bar without loading addins and splash screen), therefore I here provide my langauge settings. Thank you in advance in any help and suggestions

    Alan,
This may not be of much use to you, but all the same I am running JDeveloper3.0 (although this version is not certified for Win2K!!!) on Windows 2000 server with success.
    My system config is
HP Brio Pentium III 600 Mhtz.
    316 (256 + 64) MB RAM
    Installed Softwares :
    Oracle 8.1.5 Enterprise Edition
    JDeveloper 3.0
    Rational Rose 2000e Enterprise Edition
    IBM WebSphere Application Server 3.0
Visual Age for Java 3.5 Advanced Edition
    IBM HTTP Server V1.3.6.2
    No problems till now.
However, I do get some problems with DAC forms in the Design mode - JDev simpler exits!!!But I can counter that by recompiling my projects and then switching in the Design mode for the DAC form
Other than this there is no serious problems

  • JDeveloper Hangs in Win2K

JDeveloper 3.1.1.2 Hangs and Causes Win2K to crash completely. It does this very often while it loads the plugins.
How can I avoid this problem. Any workarounds?
    Thanks

The problem is odd, I check the Task manager when I try to open the page. I get some CPU spikes but nothing major, and memory looks okay, over 1.5G available. This odd thing is that this is particular to certain JSPX pages we have written. Some load fast and some load slow/hang. I have check the JSPX and the Binding and I can see any common factors. It feels like JDev tries to get access to something during the setup of the designer for the page but is blocked? On some pages we are waiting 4-5 minutes for the designed to show the page.
I don't think the pages are very larger (what is large?), I mean we have a good number of components particularly Panel Groups etc.. As an example one of our pages which takes time has the following, 2 tables, 2 select many, 2 Box Layout, 3 buttons, 1 text field. 3-5 minutes to load.
    Thanks for your help.

  • SQLLDR.exe Hang on Win2K, sorry if this is a rehash...

First let me apologies if this topic has been covered in the past. I did a search and found a few other posts on this topic but did not find a solution.
I'm using SQL*Loader from 8.1.5.0.0 on Win2K Adv. Server. (SP2). The target DB is either on the local machine or a remote machine.
    If I specify:
    "Sqlldr userid=demo/demo@<server_name> ..."
Sqlldr loads the data then hangs until ^C is pressed. This even occurs if <server_name> is the local server name.
    If I specify:
    "Sqlldr userid=demo/demo ..."
Sqlldr runs to completion and returns to the command prompt.
    So the question is twofold:
    1. Can the 8.1.5.0.0 version of SQLLdr access the local or remote server by specifying "@<server_name>"?
    2. I've read one post that said only 8.1.6 is approved to work with Win2K, is this correct? If so, where can I download this upgrade? I only see 8.1.7 on this site.
    TIA

I run 8.1.6 on win2K professional. I have had no problem running sqlldr.

  • LabView hangs when trying to load the same VI with a different user logged onto Win2k

When 'User A' is logged onto Win2k, a particular VI loads and runs fine. When 'User B' logs onto the same Win2k box, LabView hangs when trying to load the VI.
I'm also not seeing the setup channels in the Data Neighborhood in MAX when logged on as 'User B'. I tried loading the configuration when logged on as 'User B' that I think is being used for 'User A', but nothing happens.
Where are the configuration files (of whatever type) that tell LabView which user is logged on?
    Thank you!

There are no configuration files that tells LabVIEW what users are logged on. It is Win2K permissions settings that allow different users access to different folders and applications. Try changing the permissions for the LabVIEW folder and see if that doesn't fix your problem.

  • Why LV6.1's example:hostname will hang when "Run Continuously" under Win2K+SP2?

After I install the LabView 6.1 under Win2K+SP2,
I try to run a "hostname" example of LabView 6.1
    that was placed "C:\Program Files\National
    Instruments\LabVIEW 6\examples\dll\hostname".
Then I run it under "Run Continuously" mode. It
will hang. But I try use LabView6.02 to do same
    thing that work perfectly!

    Dear Randy Hoskin
Thank your attention, my O.S. is Traditional-Chinese
Win2K+SP2.I had try four kind hardwares what are ACER
    TravelMate 529TX/AcerPower 500/ACER Veriton 7100/ACER
Veriton 7200D, they have same problem!
I try to find out the real reason, so I just intall
Win2K+SP2 and LV6.1; no additional software run
    simultaneously.
I run it under "Run Continuously" mode, then click
the STOP button, then it will hang. I use the Task
Manager to monitor the usage. LV6.1 take 99% CPU
usage when hang. Some time,LV6.1 can STOP after LV6.1
    lost the focus.
This feature is very important to me. Because I have
many products use traditional DLL. I hope upgrade my
products to 6.1. The hostname is just a example that
to verfiy the LV 6.1 ca
    lling DLL problem.

  • SOS: win2k installation hangs

Hi everyone, I need help really bad.  I'm currently using a Neo2 (6728) with 2 80GB serial ata attached to sata1 and 2 and an IDE cdrom attached as a slave to IDE2.  During the installation of win2k, I pressed F6 to install the ICH5R drivers for sata1 and sata2.  After the loading of the drivers and some other stuff, the installation always hangs on the blue installation screen and the status showing "setup is now starting windows 2000".  Even if i tried the installation without loading the ICH5R drivers, the same thing happens....
Have anyone else had any success installing win2k with similar setup?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks. ?(

---Before reading further, try installing Windows with nothing but the Graphics card and boot Hard Drive installed ---
I had exactly the same problem on an 865PE Neo 2 board with a 2.4C P4.
It is strange but it seems to be caused by a heat problem.
Even though your temps may look fine, your CPU can still be overheating but because the P4 slows itself down to cool itself when it overheats, you may never notice.
First, remove your heatsink from the CPU.
If there is a thermal pad on the heatsink, remove it.  Make sure all of it is removed.  There may be a thin film the same colour as the heatsink.
Clean the heatsink of any remaining thermal pad with a moist scratchy sponge dipped in soappy water (make sure you are nowhere near your PC to avoid any water getting inside).  Be careful not to get any liquid into the vents of the HS. Dry the heatsink.
Clean the CPU with a cotton bud (use no water).
Put good thermal grease on the CPU.  Don't use too much but make sure you cover the entire surface of the CPU.
    Replace the Heatsink.
    This worked for me.

  • USB Hard drive hangs KT4V Mainboard

    Hi,
I am wondering if anyone else is having USB 2.0 problems with MSI KT4V Mainboards?
I am getting system hangs when an external (Acom Data) USB 2.0 hard drive is connected to the following:
    MSI KT4V-L KT400 Mainboard
    AMD Athlon XP 2800+
    512MB PC3200 400 MHz DDR Memory
60 GB internal IDE hard drive
60GB External ACom Data USB 2.0 hard drive
    Windows XP Pro
I have already updated every driver, bios, etc.. via the MSI Live Update 2 util.  This is a brand new system.  Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Brent

wonkanoby - Yes, the external HD has its own powersupply.  It was connected to an external powered hub, but I connected it directly to the mainboard...  same hang results.
I have "legacy support"  turned on in the bios.  There are no hardware conflicts in the device manager.
I really think that this mainboard is either bad or the KT4V has problems with external USB hard drives.  It only hangs when I have the hard drive connected.  I have other USB devices connected and I don't have any problems.  The drive is about 3 months old and was used on the previous mainboard (MSI 6380E KT333 w/AMD XP 1600+) on a USB 2.0 PCI card with no problems.
I have now put in the USB 2.0 PCI card on the KT4V mainboard and disabled the built in USB 2.0 ports.  I will see if my luck is any better.  If this works, the KT4V is definately going back.
    Thanks again for any suggestions!
