Mainstage 2 & Euphonix MC Mix

Have been using MC Mix with my Logic 8. Upgraded to Logic 9, & would like to know if any knows how to utilize the Euphonix MC Mix as a control surface for MainStage 2.
Running MS2 in 32 bit mode, therefore no issue with Eucon protocol for Logic 9.
I know you can map Midi signals to controls, but with the MC Mix using Eucon protocol possible.
Layout mode recognizes the Euphonix mixer, but will not learn.
Any help ideas or ridicule appreciated

I've decided to "take the plunge" and jump right into Logic 8. The few days I spent mucking with Garage Band really helped as there are some similarities with Logic. With the help of forums like this and Apples' superb printed manuals which accompany Logic 8, the task seems quite "doable" for a relative newcomer to computer based recording. I just got my Euphonix today and I KNOW it works beautifully with Logic. Just for fun I may give it a try with Garage Band and see if indeed it does work. Thanks for the replies guys!

  • Euphonix MC MIX and Logic 9.0.x = no tracks volume values display

    Hi,
Did anybody noticed that, since introduction of Logic 9.0.1 update, the track volume values aren't showed in the MC MIX display anymore? Euphonix support says that they are aware of the problem and are working close to Apple to resolve the issue, but that a fix would demand a new update from Apple.
Does anyone have some info from Apple side? Any light on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
    see ya

Got this from the Avid Support group: Go to Library/application support/Euphonix/Usersets/MC2User/MC_USER_SET_Root/ and make a copy of the Logic Pro.xml file. Then paste it back into the same folder but rename it Logic Pro X.xml. That should then open your old button settings for your MC Control. This worked for me and one other, so I hope it will work for everyone. There may be some different commands that will have to be changed in the button settings for LPX but I haven 't had a chance to check all of that out yet. I'm just happy this worked, I didn't like the idea of inputting all of the button settings from the start!

  • Euphonix MC Mix with Logic Pro 7 (not 8)

    Has anyone picked up this:
    http://www.euphonix.com/artist/products/mc_mix/
And had it connected up to Logic Pro 7? (not Logic Pro 8, I upgraded but stayed with 7)
The Euphonix can use the HUI protocol, so it should function, and I'm very close to buying this - I was just wondering how the user experience felt (especially with regard Inserts etc). Good or bad purchase? I cannot demo the unit; no importer in Hong Kong.
Thanks in advance for your comments.

    Sup All,
I tried one of the MC Mix units that my friend picked up although we couldn't successfully used both units at the same time due to a Ethernet jack issue that i determined later by connecting one unit at a time.
Setup and Config were a breeze. I used it intensively in Logic Pro. I like all the functions for it works almost as if it were a Mackie Controller. But, one thing that could make it a deal breaker for now is that it is very sluggish in response waiting for logic to send the proper Data to the unit or vice-versa.
Even when the MC Mix was not plug to my system everything was still slow; so it is safe to assume it's a Eucon Software issue. Once I did uninstall Logic worked flawless.
With that unit you can do literally anything a Mix Controller does. So, optimistic thoughts say they, meaning Euphonix will workout the issues within weeks.( Unofficially )

  • Euphonix MC Mix and MC Control vs Mackie Control Universal Pro

    Whats up.
I read the Euphonix artist series controllers working as specified with logic Pro 8, has that been fixed ?
Comparing the Euphonix MC series to the Mackie Control USB, which is a better controller and a better purchase ? And which works best with Logic Pro 8 ?
    Cheers

Just saw this over at Gearslutz:
We are pleased to announce the release of EuControl 1.2.2
    What's New
MOTU Digital Performer 6 (v6.01 or later) now directly supports EuCon, giving you added in-depth control of DP from MC Control and MC Mix. You no longer need to configure DP to use Mackie Control. Detailed setup instructions are found in the EuCon Application Setup Guide (PDF), included with this installer.
EuControl now remembers which surfaces are in the My Surfaces list. This helps in facilities where other EuControl users are on your same network, as only surfaces that belong to you are added when EuControl starts. If this applies to you, go to the Surfaces tab and change the new Automatically add: pop-up button to My Surfaces only.
The default setting is All Surfaces, which is used when you are the only person running EuControl in your home or studio. It provides a no hassle, plug and play experience, automatically adding your surface(s) so you never have to manually edit the My Surfaces list.
MC Control users can speedily scroll through Pro Tools tracks using the jog wheel. When controlling Pro Tools, go to the Soft Key tab and assign the EuCon command Left Edit > Nudge to a soft key. Toggle this soft key on. Turn to jog wheel to nudge forward and backward through all tracks.
    Bug Fixes
Improvements in knob sensitivity when controlling certain Pro Tools plug-ins. If using Waves plug-ins with Pro Tools, be sure to select the HUI control surfaces support (low res) checkbox in the Waves Preferences dialog box that comes up when launching Pro Tools. You can hold the shift key during Pro Tools launch to show this dialog.
In the Insert Special pop-up button found in the the Soft Key Command Editor's Add... Key command, the \, Keypad Enter, Return, and Spacebar keys now work correctly.
    General stability fixes.

  • 10.5.7 - not working with Euphonix MC Mix :-(

Oh, what a fun day this has turned out to be!
I installed 10.5.7 last night and everything seemed to work okay. Great! Shut my iMac down and went to bed. Booted it up this morning, could not get EuControl to turn green. Went to the Euphonix site, saw that they had an update (1.3.0), installed that, still could not connect.
Googled "10.5.7 Euphonix" and there was a reference to this problem at Gearslutz. Tried to connect to Gearslutz, their site is dead. GREAT!
Went back to Euphonix' site and called their tech support phone number... and got Fred's voicemail. "Hi, this is Fred, sorry I'm not available, please leave your name and number."
    What the....?
    Is it just me?

  • Can I use my iPad 2 with Mainstage 2 as a mixing surface for my keyboard rig?

How do I use ipad2 with mainstage as a mixing surface for my keyboard rig?

    Hi Capp 543:
I don't really use it any more live, mainly because I use my iPad for reading music and don't want to switch around apps. I'm not part of the company, but I'll try.
IMO the iRig manual is way way too simplistic.
I am attaching some jpeg's of what helped me solve it, though it was tough. If it doesn't open, search Audio Midi Setup help for "sharing midi data over a network". You have to create a wireless session using Audio/Midi setup, OR create an "ad hoc" network using bluetooth if there's no wi-fi (another set of problems...). This may be your issue. There are a few things beyond getting the wireless network appearing that you have to do, that's why I'm suggesting this even though you did it, or a part of it.
    In particular:
"Anyone" has to be set as who can connect to me in the lower left of the wireless midi setup screen, and
First get everything else ready, meaning the iPad connecting, THEN LiveRig has to be launched from closed, meaning do an icon hold and close in down iPad, then open it up for it to connect, when everything else is ready. for some reason that helped me.
In MainStage, you of course need to go to the MainStage #1 Setup screen, drag in sliders, then "learn" them to the LiveRig, which should now be seen when you click "learn" and move a Liverig slider. I have a vague recollection about not seeing iRig in the MainStage #1 top left device window, but then   going into the drop-down menu there where the device shoudl be, selecting it, then learning the sliders. Then in the #2 Edit window you assign the sliders etc.
I would suggest first connecting it via midi wires and getting it to work, which will help you decide if a problem is in the wi-fi or somewhere else when you go to connect it up with wi-fi. You'd need the Apple Camera Connection kit adaptor. I myself would alway run it via midi if I'm playing live, too many unknowns with unknown networks.
    Hope that helps.

  • Using MainStage live in a special way

    Hi,
I have the new Logic Studio. I wanted to find out if I can use MS the same way I do with Live 7, as being a Logic man, that would be my preference.
Here are some things that I want to be able to do:
    1) If someone comes up to me during a performance, can I go to a special vamp section, that I put together in each song?
    2) If the crowd is dancing more than usual, I want to be able to add as many choruses or instrumentals as I want to the song by using a midi controller from either my Roland X7 or some other controller?
Any and all help or opinions more than appreciated and welcome.
    Thanks,
    StashO
iMac 3.06 4 gig, G5 quad 16 gig, PC Intel quad 8 gig, Euphonix MC mix and control, DP6.0, Logic 9 Studio, Live 7, Sibelius 6, Garritan Personal & Jazz, Komplete 5, Melodyne, BFD 2, Waves Platinum,2X 896 mk3, Unitor8, Roland Fantom X7

Good idea! I'll give that a try. One unintended (but handy) consequence of my current set-up is, that since I'm coming out of the Headphone output, I have yet another Gain control. When plugging into different amps it allows me to boost or cut the overall output in a simple analog fashion as required.
I'm using a small dot of "white-out" to mark the preferred points for the two different amps I switch between. Kind of an easy way to achieve some kind of "unity volume". My Classic 30 is scary loud, but the old Fender Frontman at church is kinda lame in comparison. It's not a major thing and I may be willing to sacrifice it after I try your suggestion.
Thanks for the reply, and let's tell our friends about the forums. There's lot of people starting to use MS, and this stuff is all good.
    Much Mahalo and positive waves,

  • Risky to buy Euphonix artists series right now ??

Due to space issues i have been wanting to get rid of my Logic Control and move to a euphonix. Today i got a great offer for the Logic Control, very very rare in my country.
But am scared about the future of Euphonix and Logic.
How is the compatibility at this time ? If they continue to support it the way it is, how much risk is there in buying a euphonix now ?
What do u suggest ? Hold on to the LC for now .... ?

I replaced an old MCU with a Euphonix MC Mix last July and I am very happy with it. I was a little bit buggy at first but what isn't. I'm using it with LP9 and Snow leopard no problems. The space I saved
    was worth the switch.
My desktop with MCU was MCU computer Keyboard Mouse, Imac and external monitor
With the Euphonix MC Mix its the same but with 5 hard drives USB FIrewire HUB Ethernet Switch Akai MPD24 and I just added a Euphonix MC Transport. Getting in and out of plugins are easy. It's definitely not a toy. I like the Mackie just too **** big. I still have room for another MC Mix or MC Control.
As far as the future since AVID bought Euphonix I don't know. Word is that EuCon would continue to be supported. I don't see why not it would be silly to lose Logic user and potential Logic users.

  • Which control surface do you use, would like to use or have used for audio?

I am shopping control surfaces for mixing audio in Premiere Pro CC. I am buying used so I would sure like to get it right the first time. I am looking for feedback from those who have used a control surface as well as those who have just looked around. I have searched high and low for information from Premiere Pro users but have found very little. Even the Audition folks have not shared much information about experiences with audio control surfaces.
Here are some consoles I've looked at but cannot determine compatibility (due to lack of information):
Mackie Control Universal MCU Pro 8
    Digidesign Command 8
Digidesign Digi 002 Pro Tools Console
    M-Audio ProjectMix I/O Control Surface
Icon QCon Pro USB Midi Controller Station

    CM Labs Motormix 2
    CM Labs MotorMate
Novation ZeRO SL MkII MIDI DAW Control Surface
Nektar Panorama P1 USB Midi DAW Control Surface
    Alesis Master Control
If you have experience with any of these consoles, or have any to add to the list, specifically with Premiere Pro, please leave a note here. I believe there will be others who will check this discussion looking for the same answers as I. Documentation of these control surfaces is very thin when it coms to discovering if they are MCU or EUCON protocol (or other) - and even if I was able to discern a flavor I still do not know which features will work in Premiere, such as transport controls, faders, plug-in modifiers, et al.
So I guess my goal here is to come up with a list of work/don't work features for each of these control surfaces and more so we can make informed bang for the buck decisions. My budget for a used control surface is $300-400, but I'd be willing to go to $500-600 or more if the features/integration were significantly better.
    Thanks!

Here is the list with the responses I have received from the manufacturers, (3) so far.
Mackie Control Universal MCU Pro 8
The MCU Pro uses three different types of MIDI operating protocols (Mackie Control, HUI, and Logic Control). We have not tested the MCU Pro here in Tech Support with Premiere Pro. You will want to contact Adobe directly to see if they support the Mackie Control, HUI or Logic Control protocols with the Premiere Pro software. It is up to the manufacture of the software on how well these MIDI operating protocols are implemented into the software.  With contacting Adobe directly you will be able to see what control surfaces are supported with their software.
    Digidesign Command 8
Digidesign Digi 002 Pro Tools Console
    M-Audio ProjectMix I/O Control Surface
The Project Mix I/O is a discontinued product.  However, it should work properly with basically any DAW program.  I can't speak to specifically Premiere Pro, but we have a few customers who use that combination and those customers report it works just fine.

    Behringer B-Control Fader BCF2000
Thank you for your email! Yes, you are able to use the BCF2000 to control Adobe Pro CC. YOu will need to program the controller into Mackie Emulation mode. Mackie Emulation will allow full functionality within your software. Attached you will find a PDF showing each emulation mode. Here are a few informative links explaining setup and application:

  • Does Logic Pro 9 work with Mountain Lion?

    Hey!
    I was wondering...
My computer has Snow Leopard installed and i would really like to get Mountain Lion. BUT there is a problem... I don't know if Logic Pro 9 will with Mountain Lion. Can anybody help me with it? And also does Logic Pro 8 and the microsoft pack (word, powerpoint, excel etc. 2011) work too? Please help me if you know it
    THANK YOU
    Cheers

Since I'm not in the middle of anything critical and have multiple backups, I decided to take the plunge and upgrade. I've only been running for an hour or so, but here's where I am:
2008 MacPro, 8x2.8Ghz, 16Gb RAM. SSL MADI PCIe card for I/O. Logic 9.1.7
Tested with a couple of recent, decent size projects (40+ tracks, VIs and plugins). Not seeing any perormance differences.
    Working:
    - Euphonix MC Mix
    - UAD2 Duo
    - Spectrasonics Omnisphere
    - NI Komplete 8
    - Waves 9
    - Soundtoys 4
    - Wallander Instruments
    - EW Play
    - Melodyne
    NOT Working:
    - Access Virus TI. Plugin opens but cannot connect to Virus. I am running the latest stable v4 release - I will try installing the v5 public Beta and report back. This is a deal breaker so if I cannot get it working I will roll back to Lion
    - SSL Duende Native. Authorization is failing. Possibly a CodeMeter issue or just authorizations lost during upgrade - will look at this next.
Make sure you are running the latest iLok driver - there was one released a few days ago.

  • SIGBUS error

    Hi,
I've got an issue when using an ethernet control surface with Digital Performer 7.22. Whilst this is neither a DP nor Euphonix/Avid forum, having done some googling I've found that the error I'm getting is associated with many other applications on Mac OSX (involving the same symptom of crashing/quitting unexpectedly).
The error occurs specifically when changing between chunks in DP when I have the Euphonix MC Mix hooked up and controlling DP. It completely crashes unexpectedly when I change to a new chunk within a sequence. The error report I am getting is as follows:
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)

I am not knowledgable enough to discern anything from the Crash Log, but someone here might. Any ideas?
Have checked all software and ensured it is up to date. Have also tried whilst connected to the internet and otherwise. Have also reinstalled software numerous times. The same symptom on other machines as well.
As I mentioned, having done a google search I've found many other users with similar crash reports and same unexpected quitting. For this reason, I suspect its not a DP/Euphonx-specific issue, but a Mac OS issue.
    Running 10.6.8
    Thanks for any advice.
    Steve

Without getting too technical, a SIGBUS error occurs when a program or driver attempts to access memory that doesn't exist, or at an address that's not good (no longer valid). This is a very common error and generally the result of failing to initialize a variable in some code, or failing to check the results that are returned from a function to verify that it worked properly.
This isn't an OS X error, per se. OS X simply catches the mistake and terminates the program that caused it because when it occurs, the processor simply can't continue processing the program instructions.
In this case, it looks like Euphonix driver attempted to access memory at address 0. More specifically, it looks as though the ConsumeFunction() call attempted to execute a function pointed to by a CallbackElem pointer, and this pointer had a null-value (presumably because whatever process assigned the CallbackElem pointer failed).
Address 0 is always an invalid address, and this means that somewhere in the driver, the driver's programmer failed to initialize a variable, or received an address as the result of some call/operation and never checked to see if it worked. This is a bug in the driver, and you need to report it to them. You will probably need to provide information about your hardware, OS version, other software, and anything you do that can reproducibly trigger the error.

  • Logic Control issues again!

    Details and history:
Emagic Logic Control---used to work just fine in Logic 6 and then started acting up on Logic Pro 7.
All faders and buttons work just fine. But from time to time, the PLAYHEAD jumps forward and keeps doing so. At this time the Stop and Play button lights also keep turning on and off and the SCRUB and ZOOM light come on at times too.
    Rebuilding defaults does not help.
Then randomly, it starts working perfectly and might do so for hours. Very moody!
Logic Control is connected to AMT8 and is the only external midi device in my setup currently. Previously i had a Yamaha Motif as well and it would work just fine.
On Logic Pro 9.1.1, the same random behaviour, its like a cd skipping when music is playing so only solution is to turn it off. Rebuilding defaults helps at times, other times it does not. I did check/uncheck TOUCHLESS FADER option, one time it worked, other times it did not.
I updated the LC firmware to Mackie Control a few months ago. With Logic Pro 7, it greatly reduced the SEIZURES, not curing it completely.
On a PC with Presonus Studio One, it worked great, had one seizure in months, rest was awesome.
I tried booting it up on Logic Control mode night b4 last, and selected Logic Control in preferences/setup and deleted mackie control. No help.
Reverted to Mackie Control mode and things were great last night.
    Today, madness again!!!
How do i diagnose this, is it hardware failure ? An issue with the AMT 8 ??
BTW, on the PC the mackie control was connected to the midi I/O of an RME card.
Today i will try connecting it via an Evolution UC33 and see if the AMT is the culprit.
Any help please ?? At this point i am seriously thinking about ditching this for a Euphonix MC Mix......but i'd rather save the cash and find a solution.
Sorry about the long post, i just want to be able to work.
    Thanks
    Faisal

Ok its working great now, at least for now. No SEIZURE!
    Steps:
    1. Delete Mackie Control or Logic Control from setup.
    2. Trash preferences.
    3. Boot up in Logic Control mode
    4. Re-Scan.
    5. Check TOUCHLESS Fader if need be.
All good. However, these steps don't always work!
    Will keep u posted.
    Thanks

  • Recording voice over to Soundtrack Pro

I am trying to record some dialogue for a short film and am looking at the following hardware:
Behringer Xenyx 1002B mixer (I need something with battery power for mobility)
    Behringer UCA222 USB audio interface
I am using Soundtrack Pro 3.0.1
Has anyone used this setup? Will STP detect and accept what the ACA222 spits out?
    Is there a cheaper option?
    Any help is appreciated.

Maybe I didn't understand your question. Are you wanting to mix multiple mics down to one audio signal to record into STP on one track via the analogue audio input on your computer? If that's the case then any mixer should work. I use a USB XLR mic input to feed a mic straight into the USB input on my Macbook pro. I use it for both simple production recording and VoiceOver and ADR recording back at my studio. For multiple mics I believe I could plug in multiple USB adapters, but I will typically use my Edirol R4 for when things get more complicated or I need to be very mobile. If you're mixing more than two mics, then wouldn't any mixer work? If you're looking for a mixing control surface, then your options are limited to a handful of options. I use the Euphonix MC Mix. I'm looking for a box to input (not mix) maybe four mics (boom and three lavs) and feed them via USB or preferably Firewire into STP to record onto separate tracks. The reviews I've read are very mixed. If you or anyone else has a suggestion for this please post it.

  • Audio interface for Logic 9

    Hi all,
I'm looking into upgrading my home-studio gear, abandoning my Tascam FW-1884 (no LCD, too much space, 2 dead faders) in favor of a new control surface + interface combo. My DAW will not change, still using Logic. I'm trying to catch up with what's been around in the last couple of years, which I've spent mostly away from Logic, tracking old-style on my Yamaha AW2400. Logic has evolved, too... time for a change.
For the control surface, I'm pretty much set on the Euphonix MC Mix, even though there are apparently some problems still. The only other option (in my budget) seems to be the Mackie Control which is just as huge (physically) as the Tascam.
Since I'll be separating the control surface from the interface, I will be needing, well, an interface. After reading tons of stuff on the web about the recent products within my budget, I've narrowed down the options and I would be happy to have some advice, knowing that I compose and record mainly alone, sometimes using guest musicians for some instruments that I don't play (violin) and vocals. A MIDI port would be nice but is not essential, as I'm running everything through my Fantom X6's USB port. Portability is no concern.
I wanted to get an Apogee Ensemble, but then I saw the Focusrite Saffire 56 which is almost a fourth of the price. What I don't get is the difference in price: the Saffire is priced almost the same as the Duet, which only has 2 input channels, no Word Clock, no ADAT or S/PDIF... I know the Apogee preamps are supposed to be unbelievable, but I'm not sure I will be hearing the difference (I'm recording with an AKG C4000 and listening through a couple of KRK V6s). Preamps are important, of course, but most of what I work with are AU instruments (Kontakt and Synful, essentially).
There also seems to be the option of a RME Fireface 400 which has very good reviews but which is not a recent product (I know it's a silly reflex to always get the newest thing, but I'm not immune to silliness).
I know almost everything there is to know technically about the Apogee devices and their tight integration with Logic. However, I'm used to be surrounded by gear and software, and I don't mind a trip to an external applet (Focusrite mixer or RME TotalMix) to handle routing. I'm just trying to find the best interface I can find for my money. I'm not too excited about the "Power Trio" hype from Apple, Apogee and Euphonix, since from what I read in the forums there are issues with every Logic update and the integration is not that wonderful.
    Any ideas are welcome.
    Thanks.

I use the Power Trio and it works great. There have been a few software issues along the way but what software doesn't have issues. My best advice is to check it out for yourself. The duet is a great interface the sound is fantastic. Based on it's performance and sound I would get the Ensemble if I needed more in's and out's.
I replaced the older Mackie Control with a MC mix and couldn't be happier. My MCU never worked right from the non calibrating faders to the fact it needed it's own midi interface to work properly. I'm sure the new MCU works a lot better but it's still huge. The space on my desktop where the MCU would sit is now taken by MC MIX, MC Transport, 4 Hard drives,Akai MPD 24,FirewireUSB hub, Ethernet Desktop switch. The MC MIx is a gem, plug and play. I'm really starting to dig in to pulling up plugins on it and tweaking them from the MC Mix and controlling duet from the MC Mix also.
I went with these products based on their reputation for making quality stuff and plug in play operation with Apple but if it didn't work I would return it.
