MainStage patches not loading Guitar Rig 4 patches

I'm trying to use Guitar Rig 4 as a channel strip plugin for live EG performance. Unfortunately Mainstage seems unable to properly recall assigned Guitar Rig patches and/or recall screen mapping for those patches. It seems like it only loads the first GR4 patch. If I open up the plugin I see the correct GR4 plugin name but when I double click it seems to then load.
I've mapped screen controls to specific editable functions within Guitar Rig 4's patch. Unfortunately after reboot Mainstage patches do not properly load Guitar Rig patches and screen control mapping breaks.
For instance within a specific Mainstage patch, I have a Guitar Rig 4 patch that has a stereo delay. I screen map to the stereo delay's controllable functions (mix, feedback, etc). I test it out and everything works properly. I save. I restart and then the screen controls lose their mappings.
So what's up? Is it a user error or a limitation between the two softwares?
Andy

Hi again,
OK so to map a MS toggle switch to activate an event in a Plug-in like Guitar Rig 4?
- You have Pedalboard as an insert in the channel strip?
- You have Guitar Rig as an insert in the channel strip?
- if so
- selecect the unassigned button in Manstage edit mode
-  MS will open the screen control inspector panel below the edit view of your MS edit window
- In the third tab 'unassined' of the inspector you sohould see columns make sure you're looking at the left most col
- You will find the name of the channel strip (guitar-1) or something like that - select it
- The next col will fill with info on the channel strip including the inserts - select Guitar Rig 4- The next col will fill with all the attributes of the Guitar Rig patch you've selected as an insert
- The list will contain all the controllable attrubutes of the componants that mack up the guitar rig patch.
- Select the WAH/ON/OFF or what have you.
- Now the switch in MS will control the ON/OFF state of the WAH efect in that Guitar Rig patch.
The same process works for rotary knobs so you can have MS contol the ON/OFF function and allow you to adjust say the Gain and Tone of your choosen Guitar Rig effect. Obviously you can use for Amps/effects/Cabs/and even Tapdeck etc.
Once you have a channel strip set up and your happy with the layout of MS you can save the channel strip and use it in Logic and vise versa - so I have started a library when my guitar and bass patches are channel strips.
This is because I mix up componants of the various Plig-ins I have say - Pedelboard => Ampdesigner => Guitar Rig 4 => Amplitube 3 => and Redwirez as a single 'patch'. So playing live I use the appropriate 'patch' strip in MS and when recording the I use same 'patch' strip in Logic.
Have fun!

  • How do I change Guitar rig patches when it is a plug in in main stage

I'm using Guitar Rig (v.3.2.1) inside Mainstage (v.1.0.2). I'm trying to use a midi foot controller (Yamaha MFC10) to change the patches. Pressing the Yamaha foot pedal sends program change information into main stage, but it changes the patches at the top level of main stage. Also, main stage responds to program change on all midi channels and I don't see a way to limit it to just one. What I'm hoping to do is have the MainStage patches respond to one midi channel, and the Guitar rig patches respond to another. Can this be done??

    Hey Burr,
Okay, I was able to get Mainstage 1 and Guitar Rig 3 talking okay. I'll outline here how I got the two to talk but I probably need a bit more info to address your exact need(s). I've also re-read your posts and I'll take a stab at what I think you might need to do to get set up a little better. The caveat here is that I'm not 100% clear on what you want to do, so apologies if I make assumptions that are a little off
Since it sounds like you want to do MIDI patches and Guitar Rig patches and you're trying to separate the two, then let's look at that, we can always look at combined patches later.
So what it kinda sounds like, is that you're thinking about Guitar Rig at the concert level, the best thing is for you to think about Guitar Rig at the patch level. What that allows you to do is to create two different sets within the concert, one for your MIDI patches, and the other for Guitar Rig patches.
That way, you can navigate to whatever you want (MIDI patch or Guitar Rig patch) and not worry about the MIDI channel separation issue. When you were saying the Yamaha MFC10 was sending program changes for patches at the top level, instead, what you want to think about is using CC's (not PC's) for set and patch navigation and PC's only for direct access to a specific patch.
So, first program your MFC10 to send 4 different CC's for Mainstage navigation (Set Up, Set Down, Patch Up, Patch Down) e.g. you could use switches 7,8,9,0. Then go into Mainstage at the layout level and map the Set Up, Down and Patch Up, Down icon/switches using the MIDI Learn function. Go into Edit mode and test the navigation.
Next, create two different sets MIDI and Guitar Rig.
Then create your MIDI patches in the MIDI set as you normally would.
Create your Guitar Rig patches within the Guitar Rig set. Create separate Guitar Rig patches using the MFX stereo version of the AU plug in for GR. When the Guitar Rig plug-in window opens, select/edit the patch within Guitar Rig that you want to use. That specific Guitar Rig patch will now be saved in your Mainstage patch. Set up a separate Mainstage patch using a Guitar Rig patch for each of your different patches/songs.
Now you can go into perform/full screen mode to navigate to each set or patch using switches 7,8,9,0 (if that's what you used) of your MFC10 and that will call up you patch.
Additionally, if you want to call up a specific patch from MFC10, then program one of your MFC10 switches to send a specific Program Change. Then click on the patch in Mainstage, the Patch Inspector window will open up - now assign that same Program Change number there. Your MFC10 will now call up that specific patch when you press on the switch.
Now, the next thing is...if you then want to modify or express something WITHIN a Guitar Rig patch. Then you first have to program your MFC10 to set up/send let's say...5 different CC's so let's use 1-5 of your MFC10. We might want to turn on/off different effects for example, or boost a gain, or whatever. In this example, we'll choose turning an effect on/off.
So program your MFC10, then go into layout mode in Mainstage and assign the stompbox on/off switch by clicking on it, using MIDI Learn, and then pressing your footswitch to learn the CC.
Go into Edit mode, select your Mainstage Guitar Rig patch, then click the stomp button(s) you just programmed. The parameter mapping section then opens up at the bottom. Choose your Mainstage patch name (appears right under "Parameter Mapping".
Then the next column (to the right) populates, choose "Guitar Rig 3 MFX", the next column then populates with all the Guitar Rig 3 parameters, select whichever GR3 item you want to control and do the parameter mapping. In my test I chose Skreemer On/Off because I mapped my FCB1010 and Mainstage Stompbox to switch that effect.
Anyway, if everything was done ok then when you press switch 1 on your MFC10 it will turn the effect in Guitar Rig 3 on and off through Mainstage.
So now knowing all that, you should be able to map Mainstage and GR to do what you want by just using the same principles.
Sorry for the long explanation but it's the only way to give you the details...I hope I got what you wanted to do after all that...phew
Give it a go and let me know if you have any questions.

  • Patches not loading correctly..

If anybody could help me solve this that would really help.
For some reason my midi patches are not loading correctly when I open a file. In order for the right patches to play, I have to click on the specific tracks. After that , it's fine. What I usuallyu do is, I select the very first midi track and then hit the down arrow button and run through all the tracks (Not the audio tracks, they load fine). I need to somehow lock the patches!? What do I need to do? Thanks in advance.

wolfi228, have a similar issue. sometimes use the internal DLS Midi Synth, and the patches won't stay put.
clicking on any given track solves the prob. i think the patches have to be initialized each time. i generally put patch changes in at the region start as a matter of course.

  • Mainstage 2 not loading mainstage 1 files properly

Hi there, running a 2008 macbook pro 15", 4gb ram. Had no problems installing the logic studio 2009 upgrade, logic's working fine. But Mainstage 2 won't load my old Mainstage files, keeps saying the files are corrupt. If the file does load, it is all fouled up. I just had to revert back to mainstage 1 with my backup drive. Any thoughts?

    I have the same problem.
    a) MS2 reports that MS1 files are corrupted or in a wrong format. Still I can open those files in MS1
    b) Where in MS2 is the menu command "Import Layout". In my MS2 in File-menu is no option for importing???
I can post an Apple-template Concert (Keyboards/Assortment) that was immediately saved under MS1 (and still can be opened there) but crashes MS2! This bug is repeatable (you can open it in MS1 as many times as you like but still it crashes MS2).
I think I have to wait for the MS2 to be corrected...

  • Mainstage/Guitar rig/ midi

    Hey all,
So im quite enjoying the pedal board and set up to a midi foot controller.  I dragged 4 pedals and routed them to 4 pedals in pedal board.
I do have guitar rig and was wondering if anyone could help me use some of the guitar rig patches in the mix with pedal board so I can use my 4 pedal board stomp boxes and say 2 from guitar rig.  So I would have 6 in total.  4 from mainstage pedal board and 2 from mainstage.
any help with routing would be huge.

  • Clicks and pops when running Mainstage 2 with Guitar Rig 5 in Mavericks.

**I've read that this may be unsolvable but I hope someone can help me**
    Hello everyone,
I very recently upgraded to the new Macbook Pro 15" Retina as my 2010 Macbook running Snow Leopard is on it's way to Apple heaven. This means I am now on Mavericks and **** is ******, it's my fault for not upgrading sooner so I am to blame in some respects. Here is my issue.
My set up is fairly basic:
Mainstage 2.2.2 (I can't upgrade to 3 as the synths we use are not 64bit compatible.. another nightmare due to my lack of upgrading in the past)
Axiom 64 MIDI controller via USB
Guitar Rig 5 controller via USB (audio interface)
In Mainstage we have the L output for virtual instrument parts and the R output for guitar parts. These are globally panned L and R.
The L output from Mainstage goes through the Guitar rig footcontroller out the L output through a DI and then to the mixing desk. The R output goes through the Guitar rig controller out the R output and straight to the guitar amp. Simple way to do both keys and guitar.
We never had any problems with this in Snow Leopard. With Mavericks this setup is unusable due to the clicks and pops shooting through the guitar amp. It doesn't matter whether the voume on the guitar itself is turned up or down it's still all "click POP.. CLICK pop pop click" Mainstage just seems to be sending these pops regardless if anything is being played or not.
When I ran the same session through my Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 there was no popping on the virtual instruments so I'm thinking it could be a guitar rig issue.
Can anyone help me with this? I'm sure a lot of people are finding the same thing... **** I know a lot of people are getting the pops without guitar rig involved. For now I'm going to continue to use my old Macbook but I'd LOVE to have the new one running smoothly!
    Thanks a lot!

  • Guitar Rig not found in GBand 10

I have downloaded GBand 10 and am trying to load Guitr Rig patches from the plug in but I cant seem to find it in any menu.

You should see the plug-in in the Smart Controls.
Enable the Audio Units  in the Preferences > Audio/Midi.
Show the Smart Controls for your Track:
Then drag the dividing line between Smart controls and track area upward to enlarge the area.
    Click the button.
Then click the Audio Units brick to reveal your plug-in.

  • Problem with Guitar Rig 5

I recently installed Guitar Rig 5 for use on Pro Tools 11.  The next time I went to open Premiere Pro CS6, it stalled (and has every time since) when it gets to the part where it loads "Guitar Rig 5.VST".  I never tried to load GR5 into Premiere or make it have anything to do with it and I am not sure why this is happening.  Any ideas to get it to open?

you will need to find that guitar rig 5.vst file and rename it to something like .bak or .old  then premiere should ignore it and be able to load up.  after that you can tell premiere not to look there anymore in the settings, and rename the file back to .vst
Audiounit/VST plugins not appearing in Premiere Pro CC
if you want premiere to use some third party vst's and it keeps crashing when scanning default locations, can try to configure premiere to use another location and copy the vst's you want there, or reverse, install guitar rig to its own location and have pro tools look there.

  • ISE 1.2.1.198 patch 5 - Operations Authentications not loading or displaying

Is anyone else having an issue with getting Authentications to display under operations? We were running 1.2.0.899 and started to run into a couple bugs so we upgraded to 1.2.1.198. Ever since then the Operations - Authentications have not been working right. I may occasionally see and actual authentication but not as many as I should. Most of the messages I saw yesterday pertained to radius processes already in progress from endpoint which was my wireless controller. Today I just get a loading data message at the bottom of the screen. It does not seem to be affecting system operation as users are still properly authenticating but I am unable to monitor the process or troubleshoot a users if they were to have an issue. We are on the edge of moving this into full production but really cannot until I get this resolved.
I have a case open with tac and their comment was that the issue of authentications not displaying was fixed in 1.2.1 and not sure what may be happening. We went ahead and applied patch 5 just in case there was something else going on. That did not fix things and it now seens to be getting worse.
I just wanted to see if anyone else had seen this and could possible shed some light on a resolution.
I am running a cluster containing the following. Primary admin on a VM - two policy Services servers both on VMs - secondary admin on retired ACS 2111 appliance. All three VMs are on the same physical server. Memory utilization on the admin server is just under 50% with the Policy servers both in the 30% range. I do have one policy server that is showing authentications in the 10-12ms latency but do not think that should affect anything. The ISE cluster is also tied into our 5508 wireless controller for support of the wireless networks. I have two SSIDs in production here at corporate and trying to figure out FlexConnect for the remote locations so we can centralize everything.
    Brent

TAC recommendation was to install patch 5 which should include patch 4 plus other things. They took logs from my servers and asked to give them a day or so to look at the issue. Today is day three with no update.
I am going to reboot all the servers in the cluster tonight. I do not have console access to the VMs so am hoping that I can reload from the CLI and accomplish the same thing rather than just reload the services.
I tried a wired connection this morning and it popped into the authentications report but will have to test to make sure it repeats.
What is mostly in the log is simply the reports of the supplicant stopped responding to ISE. I know thought that I have at least 5 people that are connected via wireless. Here is a sample of what is in the log.

Superb advice R&W!  My email sending block using TalkTalk started 2 months ago using Snow Leopard, continued when I upgraded to 10.8.2, and has been persistent on my wife's new iPad (IOS 6.1).  Implementing your wise words has fixed all that, and now enables me to call her on FaceTime — previously only she could call me.  Thank you so much; this will save hours of further fruitless searching and phoning.
Please remember that your email is now insecure, if you wish to have a secure connection SSL must be on and port 25 should be avoided.

You recently updated iTunes to v.11.4? This message has popped up on many a Mac screen when this version was first made available, because this kext was obviously faulty.
You should try to download iTunes 11.4 again from Apple's website: the new version bears the same name, but this kernel extension has been updated, and the issues it was causing are now a thing of the past.

  • Using Guitar Rig 5 in MainStage

    Hello all!
I'm just getting started with MainStage, and so far quite liking the possibilities.
However, I've hit one thing which seems to be an issue for me, assuming I've understood it correctly. Each patch seems to have it's own channel strips, with it's own AU instruments etc... which to me seems a bad idea. Surely in this state, I will end up having hundreds of AUs running for the same software, which would slow things down?
On top of that, I'm running keyboard, guitar and vocal through Mainstage. All for me, as I switch what I'm doing depending on the song we're performing (and sometimes mid-song). However, this means I may sometimes want to change a guitar patch while keeping my keyboard the same, or vice versa.
So, to my question; is there a way to change AU presets without changing MainStage patch? I mainly need to do this with Guitar Rig 5 from NI, but I'd also quite like to do it with Massive and Reaktor too.
Not quite sure I've worded that very well, so an example:
I have a MainStage layout set up, which has my vocal going through clean with maybe some EQ etc. I've also got a guitar running through Guitar Rig 5, and my keyboard into Massive. During a song, I start off on keys playing Fat Bass 1 on my keys in Massive for the intro, switch to a distortion for the verse with my guitar, then Fat Bass 2 for the chorus in Massive. Maybe later I'll want a clean guitar in a bridge or something too, with some string hits thrown in from Massive again.
The way MainStage is set out currently, I'd need a patch for each combination, which would leave me with at least 3 "patches" for one song and three instances each of Massive and GR running. I'd much prefer to just send in a control message to change the presets in Massive and Guitar Rig.
    Running on a 2014 15" MacBook Pro, 2.2GHz i7/16GB RAM/256GB SSD.
    Thanks

I haven't been able to find a way to get it to work with Guitar Rig yet, but for Massive (and presumably Reaktor) I have found a solution. First, create an instance in MainStage, load it with Massive and load the presets you would like to use into Massive's preset bank. Turn it on so that it will respond to patch changes.
Navigate to the 'Assignments & Mappings' tab of the edit page. Find the device you want to use to send the MIDI CC messages. If it isn't in the list, click on 'New Assignment', which usually creates an Unmapped assignment in the 'All Devices' list. Click the area where it says No Assignment to bring up the Hardware Input popup menu. Choose your device, assign channel to 1-16, and change Type to absolute. From the number menu, choose the CC number you want to send the patch change. Set MIDI thru to Automatic. Name the input to something like CC to PG01.
Click on it to highlight the mapping info. In the far left side of the Control Inspector, you'll see a list of items such as Same as Input, Block, etc. You will also see the name of the instance containing Massive. Select it to bring up a list of control parameters, such as Volume, Mute, etc. From the list, choose MIDI Controller. The third item down in that menu is Program Change. Select it.
You'll see the Parameter values for Program Change. For saved value, select the Program Change number you want to send. Number scheme is 0-127. Now, here's the tricky part that nearly drove me mad before figuring it out. For NI instruments, one of the Range Max or Min numbers must be set to zero and the other to a non zero number. If you want to select PG 0, set saved value as 0, range max as 1 and range min at 0. For any other patch number, set saved value and range max to the same number and set range min to 0.
Also, make sure that the device thats sending your CC control message is configured as a toggle switch, not a momentary, or else it will send the range min program change number when you lift your foot or finger from the button. If you want to send multiple patch changes, add more mappings and assign different CC numbers to select the patch number you desire.
An additional benefit is that you can load up a single instance of Massive with as many presets as it can hold and use aliases of that instance for other songs. In this case you would create a new MainStage patch and populate it with an alias of your Massive instance. Set up a separate hardware input (I use logic remote) and rather than setting the number to a CC controller, set it to Any. By entering the same NI mapping parameters as above, it will send the correct PG info to Massive when you select the MainStage patch containing the alias. If you need to select multiple Massive patches from the new MainStage patch, simply assign the CC controllers to select new patch assignments. All that info is freely assignable and saved on a per MainStage patch basis, so your first instance could select the patch (say 0) and use three CC controllers to set patches 1-3. On the next MainStage patch containing the Massive alias, you could set the PG to select patch 4 and those same controllers can be set to select patches 5-7.

  • How do you change presets in plug-in guitar rig 5 with FCB 1010 within MainStage 3?

How do you change presets in plug-in guitar rig 5 with FCB 1010 within MainStage 3?

    Hi
Mainstage will not pass through Program Change messages to plugins. I have not succeded with (quick) attempts to get GR to respond to MIDI CC either.
You might do better to simply make additional Patches (or combinations of Audio and Instrument Patches) rather than try to control GR5 directly.

  • GTR ? Guitar Rig glitches in Mainstage

I am running mainstage for all my live guitar sounds without an amp or any back up (brave!!).
Im using an Edirol UA-25 and in Mainstage 2.1.1 using the built in amps / space designer / gtr / guitar rig and Roland FC-300 as my midi foot controller. Its working pretty well although sometimes my CPU does max out if im stupid and scroll through patches too quickly or try and run too many different plug ins on one channel.
One particular problem that Im having that I cant figure out is that sometimes, when I change patches, some of the effects that are open in the previous patch still sound like they are on. For example I change from a patch that is running GTR with a reverb pedal to a patch that is fairly dry sounding with no reverb and just an amp on and yet the reverb still stays on, it then stays on permanently so all my patches have added reverb.
Has anyone encountered this problem before or have any idea how I might fix it?
    Many thanks

In Edit mode, in the Screen Control Inspector, check you parameter value settings for patch changes "On Patch Change:" and make sure you have them set correctly. You might be inheriting settings made from the previous patch?
Also, I recommend using some of the other reverbs (silver, platinum, or gold) as they use a lot less resources, and in a live room setting you may not notice a great deal of difference.

Yes, all other templates work except the Starter Rig templates. When I click in Guitar Starter rig, only one rig loads rather than the dozen or so that used to load.
