Maintain a History of Instant message in Portal
Hi All,
Can we able to save the history of the Instant message in Collaboration? If so, how to do that configuration.

The answer was using a Session; because is not to able to obtain a IM log.

one of the potential client is looking for the following features in the portal -
1. instant messaging in portal
2. bulletin board in portal
has anyone done this before ... ?

I'm not sure what you mean under "federated".
Portal has it's own Instant messaging system, it works within single portal.
But I don't think it works in FPN scenario to connect users between portals.
There is lot of instant messager systems, you coudl try to use them without portal.

How to install instant messaging and Application sharing in Nw2004s Portal

I have a prob installing and configuration of Instant messaging,APPLICATION sharing in the Netweaver 04s.
1)When i open the "send instant message link"
i was getting like
"Portal Runtime Error
An exception occurred while processing a request for :
iView : com.sap.netweaver.coll.appl.ui.base.UpcmSession

The exception was logged. Inform your system administrator..

My question is how can i check the error and location of error for clear description.
and 2)for Application sharing i can just see the blank window.
I followed and activated the following
1) Coloboration launch pad
2)Activated Real time colloboration (RTC)
3)Activited SCF service types.
Please help to how to solve this.

Sun ONE Instant Messaging is tightly integrated with the Sun ONE Portal Server. Sun ONE Instant Messaging provides a portlet or channel that displays a list of a given user's online buddies and also provides the capability to archive chat and other forms of IM Communications within the portal server search database. Hence, chat, alerts, news channels and more can be archived and searched using the Search capabilities of the portal server. Unable to launch Instant Messaging Service
Hi,
I have a IM channel deployed on a portal desktop as one of the portlet. When I click Launch Instant Messanger in IM channel , following error is displayed:
"Unable/Cannot to launch Instant Messaging" .
I am not getting to know why this error is displayed . Any help will be highly appreciated.

Not able to send instant message through CLP
Hello All,
I am a beginner in portals.
I am doing a test assignment on collaboration.
1.I have enabled the Collaboration Launch Pad.
2.Now when I click on the link, CLP opens. I have added some contacts to it.
3.Then I tried to send an instant message and then I get the error:
Could not open a new instant-messaging session. All invitees are offline. Try again later.
I know that some configurations need to be done to be able to send the instant message.
Please let me know the configuration steps for the same or any relevant document.

Please check the collaboration contacts is portal users.
Make sure that other portal user also logged in the portal for sending instance message.
OR you can try to loging with two differnet portal userid and try to use instant-messaging functinality by sending message.

Problem with instant message in clustered environment
Hello, I have some problem with Instant Message service.
We need to use it in our Production Environment (a clustered emvironment with a central instance, two dialog instances and two web dispatchers), some months ago we tested it in Development Environment (not clustered emvironment, just a single system) and it worked fine.
So I did the same configurations on Production Environment but it did not work.
But if I access on my portal (Production Env.) by the central instance (avoiding the dispatchers) the instant message service works.
I think it can be a web dispatcher's configuration problem, in its logs I found the message :
"<i>[Thr 3700] *** ERROR => htmlEncode: called with empty string [icpif.cpp 847]</i>"
I' ve repeated the same configuration done in Dev.Env. (no dispatcher) on the Prod.Env. (with 2 dispatcher), is possible that I'm missing some configurations??
Could someone helps me?

Instant messages are not received
Instant messages can't be received to contacts that are online. The status for these contacts is changing until the message is not received (offline-online although the contact is always online). When the contact writes your smth, the message is delivered. It happens on the latest skype version and on the beta version too. I also tried to remove the skype and clean up the register and install the beta version only after that.
Lync is aware of active conversations. This is how it works:
You are signed in to three different endpoints (let's say A,B & C)
someone sends you an IM, you'll get a notification on each endpoint
You decide to answer on endpoint B
Each consecutive IM between those 2 endpoints will only be send to endpoint B.
Only when someone in the conversation closes the IM (or it timed out) and the other party sends a new IM, a new popup toast is shown on all devices.
In point 4 it's very normal that Lync only sends to endpoint B since it know's you're active there. I would consider it annoying if a conversation I already had is also opened on a different endpoint. You would close it anyway.... If you want to continue
the conversation, you go to Outlook conversation history (in your Exchange mailbox) and continue the conversation from there so the other party gets contextual information.
Once the conversation is closed or timed out (point 5), Lync is not sure on which device you are so it send a new toast to every signed in endpoint. It could be that you changed PC or switched to mobile in between.
That's how it works and this behavior cannot be changed. I actually think it works fantastic.

My Lync 2013 deployment doesn't work like that. If I'm signed in on three devices (my work PC, my phone, and my home PC), I never know which of the 3 a new IM will come in on. It seems to randomly choose it. -

Unable to send a Instant message
Hi all,
I`m working in Collaboration. I properly cofigured the collaboration. Also i`m able to add contacts to my contact list.
The problem is i cant send Instant Message to another user who is in online and also in my contact list. When i click the
send instant message link it displays nothing.
Also i logged in to my id for eg:12345....and when i see in my contact list its showing as 12345 is offline(even though i`m in online) ....... Thanx in advance....Plz help me out......Hi vgarun,
Open System Administration---> System Configuration -> Knowledge Management-> Content Management-> Global Services(Mode-Advanced)-> Availability Status Service -
> Active (ticked) -
> Default Availability Status setting - Auto-Detect Status
By default the status is supressed so, even if you are logged into Portal it shows that you are offline in Instant Messenger Contact List.
Do the needful settings as mentioned in first para and try again

Problems whit Instant messaging 8.2 and SSL
Im trying to configure a instant messaging 8.2 whit ssl but when I restart the IM the mux start whitout ssl
I dont have idea what is the problem whit the configuration and I dont know if Instant messaging 8.2 support ssl
I use the same cert database that I used for the application server and smtp
Can I configure ssl only for the Mux and not for the server?

You can debug you JSPDynpage either from NWDS with the help of break points or by writing log statements in your code which will be written in defaultTrace log file.

On the following system:
Microsoft Windows 2000 Service pack 3

2 Gb RAM
During the installation I faced no error messages and the implementation runs without error logs. Unfortunately, the instant messaging does not work. I see the CLP, but the "auto-detect status" is malfunctioning. Online users are shown as offline. Trying to send an instant message there is happening nothing. I did the configurations for the instant messaging as described at help.sap.com:
1) Displaying the Collaboration Link in the Portal Header Area: OK
2) Configuring Collaboration Services in Collaboration Launch Pad: OK
3) Activating the RTC Session Manager: OK
4) Configure the Groupware Framework: Is Not Used and therefore not configured
5) Configure the Synchronous Collaboration Framework: OK
