Maintain pixels and change size

I need help trying to make web ready images in Photoshop.I can resample and maintain the pixels, but as soon as I change the dpi from 300 to 72, the size changes. How can I maintain the pixels and change the physical size? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you so much for responding so quickly.
The customer in question requires the images to be used for the web and that
they have to be at least 1000 pixels wide.  Is this not rather large for a
web image?

  • The fonts of my incoming email change, and change size. How to fix?

    I have a 2009 27 iMac, with Lion.
    In my Apple email, the fonts on some of messages change, from serif to sans serif, and change size.
    How can I fix this?

    1. Thanks.
    2. I did as you suggested.
    3. That did change some of the font to Arial in the incoming message.
    4. However, the message now has copy in two fonts:
    Arial, then Times, then Arial again, then Times again.
    And the Times is much smaller than the Arial.
    This used to occur with just one person's incoming email. Now it is starting to occur with several people.
    (I now suspect that I accused the first guy of having a defective computer.)

  • Load Movie and change size

    i'm pretty green and like some help.
    I want to load a movie clip and change the dimensions of the
    clip at the same time- because my main movie is 765X750 and the new
    clip is smaller. I want the smaller movie to play at it's native x
    and y size in the projector. I can't work out the script to do it.
    This is what I have but doesn't change the dimensions when it
    loads.
    on (release) {
    setProperty("_self", _height, "400");
    setProperty("_self", _width, "600");
    loadMovieNum("intro.swf", 0);
    Thank you.

    The problem is when you load a SWF, the movieclip you're
    loading into inherits the properties of the SWF being loaded into
    it. As loadMovie happens after everything else has processed,
    resizing the movieclip has no effect as it simply gets reverted to
    the dimensions of the SWF loading in. What you need to do is run
    the sizing code after the loadMovie has started and the movie has
    begun to load.
    I usually use a loader function that calls another function
    when it's finished loading. The function can contain _x = ?? &
    _y = ??. I also hide the loading movie or alpha it to zero and then
    show it or fade it in when it's finished loading.

  • Pixels and document size differences in Illustrator compared to Photoshop

    Why is the pixel ratio of a project in illustrator different than that of the same pixel ratio of a project in Photoshop?  Example:  A project can in Illustrator can have an artboard of 950px X 950px and be 12in and in Photoshop that same pixel ratio will be 4 3/4in.

    The rulers in Illustrator are always with fixed ratio of 1 inch = 72 pixels (72 ppi), you can check this by right clicking on the ruler and choosing inches or pixels and you will see that 950 px will be 13.9 inches and not 12 inches as you stated.
    The ratio of the rulers in Photoshop depends on the ppi resolution of the image set by the user in the Image Size dialog box. If choose Image > Image size, and set the Resolution to 72 pixels/inch (ppi) then the ratio of the rulers in Photoshop will match Illustrator. If you set it to something else they will not, in your case with an image with sides of 4.75 inches in Photoshop the Resolution will be 200 ppi in order to contain 950 pixels per side.
    When you save an image from Photoshop that contains metadata it has information about the size of the document in inches and pixels. Illustrator will place such images with the size of the inches not the pixels as indicated on the Illustrator rulers, internally however the image will contain all the pixels as indicated next to the PPI on the Control bar under the main menu when image is selected. These internal (actual) image pixels will be used when printing and when zooming on screen to render the image. Also if you copy from Photoshop and paste in Illustrator, it also will paste with the size of the inches and not the pixels (at least this is how it works with CS5 on Windows)
    If the placed image is without metadata Illustrator will always place it assuming 72 px = 1 inch (72 ppi). You can check that if in Photoshop save an image using Save for Web and Devices and choose None for Metadata.

  • Specify exact pixel and file size

    Hello,
    I have recently purchased Photoshop Elements 4.0 for Windows for a company project. I need to compile a number of outdoor photographs to be uploaded to a specific website. The photo specifications required by the website are that all photos must in JPG format, be 350 pixels across and no more than 40kbs in file size. I've been experimenting with photoshop to try and achieve this effect, but am wondering if there is a simple way to accomplish this. I have been able to adjust horizontal pixel number, which automatically adjusts vertical pixel number and photo size. When I save photos, I am able to adjust what I assume is the resolution of the photo. If there is not too much color contrast in the photo, I can sometimes reduce the file size to 40kbs by taking it as low as it will go, but not always. I was just wondering if there is a simple way to make sure that a photo will be saved with a specific pixel number and no more than a certain file size (40kbs). I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.
    Brandon

    You can also set the pixel dimensions in S4W and save a step. Just enter the size you want in the box about halfway down the right panel, and then click Apply. Then you can optimize the file size by clicking the right-facing arrow at the upper right of the panel and choosing Optimize to file size. You can specify the exact size you want. Just watch the preview to be sure the quality is good enough at the target size.

  • Relation between the Height in Pixels and Font Size?

    Hi All,
    I wanted to find the relation between the Font Size and the Pixels that it will occupy. What i want to do is i have an Icon and a Label. The icon size i need to resize to the Half the height of the Label. But the font Size does not reflect the height in Pixels. Please can you help me find the right way to resize the Icon?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Sameer

    FontMetrics fm = label.getFontMetrics( label.getFont() );Once you have the font metrics you can use the getHeight() method.

  • IMac windows constantly moving and changing by themselves

    My iMac is possessed.  Windows are constantly opening and closing and changing size by them selves.  Brightness goes up and down by itself. iTunes opens by itself.  I can't select individual files in finder on the rare moments everything does stop moving.  I updated software, plugged the computer, router, disconnected peripherals.  I disabled the iPad from automatically connecting with the iMac.  I changed to a wired mouse and turned off the key pad, still does it.  Our iPad was doing it too, a few months ago and would play random music at odd times, really loud. Disconnecting everything worked at that time, but not now.  Help!!

    To be clear, when I say 'save', I mean select the 'Move To' Message menu pick. Further, the issue in question is the appearance (or not ) of an additional pick on the Message menu, to wit, Move to {folder name} Again ... And in all cases, in all tests, the folder named in the Move To process was the same one.
    There is only one other user - my wife, who is afraid to even empty the trash. I did the test in that account as well, and it functioned the same as on my own account. On to the suggested Safe mode test.
    Prior to shutting down, I had sent myself a test message, retrieved the mail, selected that message in the Inbox, pulled down the Message menu, and noted that the 'again' message pick was not there. I left that message in the Inbox and restarted in Safe mode. Then I selected the leftover message, pulled down the Message menu, and the 'again' pick was not there. I left the message in the Inbox.
    Then I restarted normally, did the same sequence, and the 'again' pick was still missing. Hmmm. I sent myself a second test message, went through the process again, saving first the leftover message (no 'again' pick showed), and then the new second message (the 'again' pick had returned). So one thing I discovered was that the 'again' pick does not survive a restart, for whatever that's worth.
    Then, realizing that there was another case, I started all over again. In Safe mode I created, sent, retrieved, and saved two messages in that one session. The behavior was as I have described - no 'again' pick while saving the first, 'again' reappeared for the second save.

  • Changing resolution and image size doesn't change result on screen?

    I'm using Photoshop CS3. I am trying to change the resolution of several images that will be printed in a newspaper. So the current images are 72 ppi and really huge -- for example 36 x 27 inches (document size), and when I change them to 300 ppi, the image sizes shrink to about 8 x 6 inches, as I expect. But the image I see on the screen doesn't change. So, for example, when I open up the image originally, it's at 33% and the entire image is visible. After I change the resolution, and the image size has changed accordingly, the image still appears the same and it remains at 33%. Shouldn't the image shrink on the screen since its size has shrunk? Or if it remains the same on the screen, shouldn't the percentage shift? I mean if the document size is now 8 x 6, it should be able to be displayed at 100% and not fill my whole screen... I'm so confused. Thanks...

    gradded,
    The "Document Size" area of the Image Size dialog is just to indicate the size (in inches) that your document will be printed. The ppi adjustment has nothing to do with what is displayed on your monitor. Your monitor doesn't care anything about ppi. The monitor contains a certain number of pixels and after you change that ppi setting, the monitor will still have that same number of pixels.
    As long as you leave the "Resample Image" box unchecked, your image size (Pixel Dimensions) will not change. You will see no change on your monitor. If you check the "Resample Image" box, then your image size (in pixels) will change.
    Hope this helps.

  • Image dimensions and file size, why the change?

    Here's a Friday puzzler for ya
    I just ran a batch on a couple of thousand orthophoto images (RGB + 1 alpha channel geo-tif) to add some typographic information to the bottom of each image. All the files were saved in PS as flattened, standard uncompressed tif. EVERY image is 10k x 10k pixels. After the process we noticed that the new set of files were consistently smaller than the original images! Not by much mind you, but with this kind of spatially mapped imagery it makes you wonder if we are missing anything:
    before: 720013700.tif = 381 MB = 390,704kb (400,080,750 bytes), size on disk 381 MB (400,080,896 bytes)
    after: 720013700_DRAFT.tif = 381 MB = 390,648kb (400,023,280 bytes), size on disk 381 MB (400,023,552 bytes)
    So my supervisor asks "why"? and that leads me here. I thought about a few answers - 1) pixel values changes for white text take up less space? 2) No geo-tif header information written back to the file (that's a separate step after the PS batch using another app), so we'll know about that one. 3) Bit fairies took the 56kb.
    Any ideas?

    You say uncompressed…  So you didn't select any compression at all during the save of the TIFF files?  If not, white text replacing image data couldn't have changed the size by itself.
    You mentioned geo-tif header information...  Was this header in the file before you opened it with Photoshop?
    I don't really know the internal format of a TIFF file; perhaps Chris Cox can say something about this.

  • Method to double a picture size and change to grayscale

    Hello, I'm having trouble figuring out whats wrong with my code. Its supposed to double to size of a picture and change it to grayscale, but when I call it I only get a double sized blank picture. I can't figure out how to get the picture itself to copy over when I call the method. Here is my code:
    public Picture componentLayout()
       Picture targetPic = new Picture(2 * this.getWidth(), 2 * this.getHeight());
       Pixel[] pixelArray = this.getPixels();
       Pixel pixel = null;
       int intensity = 0;
       // loop through all the pixels
       for (int i = 0; i < pixelArray.length; i++)
         // get the current pixel
         pixel = pixelArray;
    // compute the intensity of the pixel (average value)
    intensity = (int) ((pixel.getRed() + pixel.getGreen() +
    pixel.getBlue()) / 3);
    // set the pixel color to the new color
    pixel.setColor(new Color(intensity,intensity,intensity));
    return targetPic;

    Althought I'm not familiar with the Picture class, i do notice that your line:
    Picture targetPic = new Picture(2 * this.getWidth(), 2 * this.getHeight());constructs a new instance of Picture, which is then never used until
    return targetPic;therefor it is constructed, and returned in it's initial state, without ever being mutated.

  • I click on a link or start typing text in a box on a webpage, any page, and the browser window either randomly changes size, reduces & goes to the toolbar, or some other strange random thing occurs. Why is this?

    Whenever I am using Firefox, when I am on a webpage (any webpage) & I either click on a link in that page, start typing in a box, click on a button, or click on a tab, the browser window either reduces to the toolbar, or just changes size, usually from full-screen to 2/3 of its size. I reinstalled Firefox (downloaded from the web) after wiping my hard drive because I was having so many problems from my browser constantly crashing, to the computer itself crashing often, to the computer running exceptionally slow. At first everything seemed fine. But then after having opened my computer a few times, a few different windows began to freeze, then that stopped, then this thing with the browser started a few times later after opening it. Now it does it every time I open it. Also, whenever I try to click on a button on other windows on my computer, I get the 'warning' sound, nothing happens, then after a couple more tries, the button works. All of this is just weird. I had antivirus protection on my computer, but it apparently did not catch whatever virus infected my computer, or the damage was already done when it did get it. I thought once the hard drive was wiped, that everything would be ok, but then these weird things began to start up, and now I am wondering.... Of course, it could also be something wrong with the browser, too. I've also had some trouble getting my printer to working again, but I've managed to solve that problem.

    I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
    When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
    At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
    I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • How do I find out the file size of my photos, and change them to the size

    This will sound inane, but I cannot figure out where to find the file size of my photos in iPhoto. I need a jpeg of a certain file size and image size for my blog background, but can't figure out how to even start.

    If the limited quality options do not get you the file size you need export the full size image files to a folder on your Desktop and use Resize! to batch resize the image dimensions and file size (jpeg compression level) to what you need.
    Click to view full size
    With Resize! you can fine tune the pixel dimensions and file size.
