Maintain title on conversion to mp3

Hi,
I use iTunes9 to convert wma to mp3, however, it does not maintain the filename but replaces it with the title field. why? How can i change it?

That is how the iTunes conversion function works; there is no flexibility in how the file gets named.
If you like more detailed filenames, you have a couple of options.
One is to let iTunes conversion do its thing, then manually edit it and re-add the track to your iTunes library.
Another option, if you still have the original CD, is to re-rip but this time set your WMP Rip setting to MP3 and set the file naming options as you wish. Then add the resulting MP3s to your iTunes library.

  • MPEG-4 conversions to mp3s.

I have some songs that I have recorded that I would like to post online. It is my (probably incorrect) understanding that mp3's are the preferred form of music file for the internet. What is the best way to convert iTunes MPEG-4 files to mp3's while keeping the highest quality sound? (Aside from changing the desktop file from .m4a to .mp3)
Thanks in advance for help and response.

You can't just change the extension; that won't change the format and will just cause problems with the files being recognized properly.
The best thing to do would be to convert the original recordings rather than an already-compressed version. You'll get the cleanest MP3s that way. If that's not possible for some reason, then there's not much you can do to improve sound quality; you're going to lose some in the conversion. Some people feel that the LAME encoder does a better job than the iTunes MP3 encoder, so that's about the only advice I'd have.

  • Can I automate import, then sample rate conversion, then mp3 export ?

I do radio spots, lots of them, and every day I have to take my spot that is a 48k wav, convert it to 44.1k, then convert it to a mp3, them distribute via email.
    Can I automate this task?

Rather than trying to automate iTunes, it might be easier to do the conversion in one go with a utility such as Sound Converter or Switch.
    Hope this helps.

  • Duplicate Library from Conversion of MP3 Files?

OK, so I converted all of my MP3 music files over into I Tunes to the MP4 or whatever format; Does that mean that I can delete all of the huge files of MP3 music on my hard drive? Or do I need to keep those files for I Tunes to reference back to?

Did you import your files into iTunes first and then convert them? If you used iTunes to convert the files then you now have two copies of everything in your library. Converting creates a second copy of the song in the format you have chosen which gives you the opportunity to either keep or delete the original. Is there any particular reason that you converted your MP3 to AAC, iTunes can use either. Converting from one lossy format to another can result in further quality loss. It's a bit like photocopying a photocopy, the farther you get away from the original the lower the quality.

  • Re:  conversion to mp3 or .wav

I am using Adobe Photoshop to create a slideshow with digital camera pix. It has option to browse and look for music to incorporate in the show in mp3 or .wav format. When I browse and go to my music/itunes/artist/album and open the album folder, I don't see any songs (it displays only files of type mp3 or wav-- there are no other options).
I can only assume that however itunes works, it is not in a format of mp3 or .wav. Is this a correct assumption? What format does itunes use?
If so, how do I convert itunes format to mp3 or wav? When I click on a desired song from my library in itunes and go to "advanced" at the top I see an option "convert to AAC". What is this?
When I simply drag from itunes library onto desktop it creates a .m4a extension. Adobe Photoshop doesn't seem to recognize this either. Any thoughts?

AAC is a newly developed codec by a conglomeration of several companies and is used with the MPEG4 ISO standards. It is not proprietary to Apple but it is not MP3 or WAV. See:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/technologies/aac/
    http://www.vialicensing.com/products/mpeg4aac/standard.html
If you get the "convert to AAC" selection in the menu, then your importing settings are for AAC. Go to: Edit=>Preferences=>'Advanced/Importing' tab and change your setting to MP3.
Then select the song you want to convert and iTunes will create a new MP3 file for you.
Post back if you have more questions.

Sounds like it is because the file has yet to be converted.
Select the track(s), and from the menu bar, choose Advanced > Create MP3 version.

  • Conversion to MP3 format

    Hey all,
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to convert the entire library to MP3 format without having a copy of each song (i.e. one in each format)?
    Thanks.

    >Can anyone tell me if there is a way to convert the entire library to MP3 format without having a copy of each song (i.e. one in each format)?
    There isn't with iTunes.
You can, of course, delete the original files if you so desire after converting.

  • Importing and Conversion to MP3

Is there any way to convert existing imported iTunes songs to MP3?

You can convert songs in your iTunes library to another format. When you convert a song in iTunes it will be converted to the format that you have set to import your CDs in. Converting creates a second copy of the song in the format you have chosen which gives you the opportunity to either keep or delete the original. You can get details on these pages:

  • Help -- MP3 conversion problems

Currently converting wave files from SoundTrack Pro into mp3 by using the Automator for encoding and import into i-tunes. Although the wave file sound is clear and clean, the mp3 files have a slight echo/reverb to them and I have not been able to overcome this.
    1. Does anybody have a solution to the echo?
    2. Is there a better program available for conversion to mp3?
Any help will be appreciated, as clients are not ecstatic about this "new" sound.

The other tip is very helpful, but you can also use iTunes.
Drag your file (AIFF or WAV) into your Library and convert it by rightclicking on it and choosing "Convert selection to ...". Before you do this, set the proper mp3 format in your iTunes preferences (Preferences - Advanced - Importing). I think the default is AAC import, so you have to change that when you need an mp3. Import using mp3 encoder, custom... Then choose something like 192 or better kbps bitrate, [x] Use Variable Bit Rate Encoding and Joint Stereo. This will render a pretty decent mp3 file.
    Good luck!

  • Can I have iTunes maintain 2 libraries, 1 wav, 1 MP3?

I'm about the rip my collection. I have multiple Mac's and multiple external hard drives to use.
I want to rip to wav files for sound quality, for in-house audio, etc. I also want to have a duplicate library in MP3 for putting music on iPods, Sansa, cell phones, USB sticks, etc.
I'd like to manage this all with iTunes, but have the ability to use other software to play or transfer songs.
What I most want to avoid is dealing with duplicate songs. For instance, I rip 30 CDs today and do some conversion to MP3, so I have 2 libraries. I rip another 20 CDs tomorrow, convert to MP3, but instead of converting the 20 new CDs, I end up converting 50 and having 30 CDs of duplicate songs.
Does anyone know the best way to achieve this?
For instance, should I rip the wav files to one external drive on one computer (say it's an iMac)? Then convert the files to MP3 on another external drive attached to another computer (call it a MB Pro) and have a separate iTunes library there and use that machine to transfer music to portable devices?
Or can this all be done on the iMac?
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Hold the option key down while launching iTunes. Take the choice to create a new Library which can be placed anywhere you choose. You can change between libraries by holding the option key down while launching iTunes, which will stay with that library through subsequent ordinary launches until you do another option-launch. Let's call the libraries A and B.
    2. Rip some CDs to WAV (or AIFF or whatever) in library A.
    3. Set the 'import' setting in Preferences>General and click 'Import Settings' to MP3.
    4. Select your imported songs, and choose 'Create MP3 version' from the 'Advanced' menu.
    5. Select the MP3 versions and drag them from iTunes to a folder on your Mac. Delete the MP3 versions in the iTunes Music list.
    6. Open iTunes to the other Library and drag the MP3 versions into it.
For another CD, repeat from step 2, but in step 4 select only the songs you have imported this time.
When doing this it's best to click on the 'date added' column to sort in that order and group imports and conversions together.

  • Song Titles Get Cut Off

I have decided to convert all of the music on my computer from MP3 to AAC format, but when i convert songs the titles tend to be cut off after 35 characters or less. A good portion of my music has rather long names in the file titles because some of them have either those featured on the song or the name of the album within the file title while they are MP3, but after having converted them to AAC this causes an inconvenience because the title will be cut off at odd places such as just after the "artist - album title" or for example if the song title itself was "portion of the song title" the newly created AAC file will only display "artist - album title - portio" rather than "artist - album title - portion of the song title" as would be preferred. I have tried turning of the option of "Automatically retrieve CD track names from the Internet" and this has not helped at all.
Is the shortening of the song titles simply an issue that I will just have to live with or is there some other option/possibly downloadable patch that could stop this from happening to my selection of music? I would love to convert the music to AAC but i also enjoy not having sore eyes and a headache from tedious tasks like copying and pasting the song names from a website into the file names for hours. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it wouldnt be such a problem if the conversion process just cut out the album title in the name of the file, but it's the fact that the album title remains part of the file title and the song name will be cut off instead so when viewing the files in the folder they all have either the exact same name minus and appended number or they all have only a portion of the title to the track

  • Middleware-Error of Field conversion from R/3 to CRM

    Hello Friends,
I am getting the below error when we tried replicating pricing condition objects from R/3 to CRM. Kindly help me if you have any solution on this.
Funct. CND_MAP_CONV_FUNC_T682Z_QUSTR cannot convert content KOMP of field T682Z-QUSTR to field /SAPCND/T682Z-QUSTR
    Message no. CND_MAP141
    Diagnosis
Conversion of the source field into the target field cannot be implemented. Possible causes may be:
No conversion is defined for the current contents of the source field in the system tables for condition exchange.
There is no conversion rule for converting the current field content in the system tables for condition exchange.
Conversion according to the defined conversion rule was not correct for the current contents of the source field.
The reason for this os often problems that result from putting together an R/3 System with a CRM System. These problems are, for example:
not paying attention to the restrictions in CRM for data values or supporting applications and objects,
incorrect exchange objects or exchange objects with the wrong selection values,
an inconsistent data structure from the R/3 OLTP System.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Yogesh

    Hello Yogesh
I have just noticed the message you placed on SDN re condition customising download errors.  Did you ever get to the bottom of this problem ?
The reason I ask is that I am getting similar errors. I actually started with two errors which I believe are related, these being:
Funct. CND_MAP_CONV_FUNC_T682Z_FNAME cannot convert content AUBEL of field T682Z-QUFNA to field /SAPCND/T682Z-QUFNA
    and
Funct. CND_MAP_CONV_FUNC_T682Z_QUSTR cannot convert content KOMP of field T682Z-QUSTR to field /SAPCND/T682Z-QUSTR
I have since read OSS Note 319636 and looked at maintaining the separate
conversion rules in CRM Customizing table CND_MAPM_CNV_FLM by adding an
entry for AUBEL into view V_CND_MAP_CNVFLD using SM30. This I saved to
    a transport.
I then looked to add AUBEL to the field catalog within the IMG however I received a
    message stating that :
"Entry is in SAP name space. Message no. /SAPCND/CUSTOMIZING403".
    So it won't let me.
Did you have similar problems and did you resolve them ?
    Regards
    Ian
