Maintaining an Up-to-Date Clone

I have two, almost identical MacBook Pros. The nature of my work is such that I can't really afford any down time. If my primary machine goes down, I need to be able to grab the secondary machine and pick up pretty much where I left off.
Currently, I am backing up at work to a 1 TB MyBook and then again to a 1 TB MyBook at home. I have Time Machine running in both places. I also make one SuperDuper backup per day to each MyBook.
I would like to have my primary machine incrementally backup my secondary machine throughout the day (in addition to the MyBooks), or, at the very least, once a day. If I have the secondary machine running in target mode, I can then plug it into the primary machine and use SuperDuper to update the secondary machine.
Is this my best option? Can anyone think of any easier solution? I am looking for the least amount of setup and hassle and the maximum amount of safety. I would also like to avoid a lot of time restoring disdrives from backups unless something absolutely catastrophic happens.
Thanks.

When you say "almost identical", does that mean that they may not be exactly the same build? If they are not, there could be potential problems trying to use cloning with different machines. For example, if one is an original build with the original trackpad and one has the new trackpad without the separate mouse button, then the version of the OS will be slightly different for each. I gather that both of your MBP's are more similar than the newest and the oldest, but I don't know if the build is identical. You will need to ascertain that a clone of the primary machine will run the secondary machine with no problems.
Do you plan to carry both machines with you at all times? If so, then you can use FWTDM to do a Smart Update to your secondary machine as frequently as you like, assuming that the secondary machine will operate properly if cloned from the first.
Another possibility is to get a portable firewire hard drive and clone to that, keeping it updated with Super Duper. If the primary machine suddenly fails, you could then boot from the portable hard drive and keep on working with the secondary machine. You could also update your secondary machine from the drive once a day.
I think there are also ways to do this sort of thing over the internet, but I have no experience with anything like that, so I don't know if it would be something else to consider.
You have a lot of safety already with your separate 1 TB MyBooks with both a clone and redundant Time machines. As I recall, MyBooks are USB, and would be slow to restore from. A firewire drive would be much faster, and booting up from one is very much like booting up from the internal drive.
Not sure if this answers your question--there may turn out to be a better solution.
Good luck!

  • Maintain outgoing EDI-connection data for partner 199093 during ORDRSP

    Hi Experts,
We are trying to send the "Order Confirmation" using "ORDRSP" IDOC message type. So we created the new Output type as ZBA0 (Copy of BA00) and assigned with the sales output pricing procedure.
Then we maintained the "partner profile" in WE20 in the "Outbound" parameter. Then we tried to send the Order confirmation in the sales order. During that time, we are getting the error as "Maintain outgoing EDI-connection data for partner 199093".
After maintaining the relevant configuration and partner profile maintenance also we are getting the above mentioned error message. Kindly give your valuable comments on this issue, which will help us to speed up the process.
    Warm Regards,
    Nag

    Hi Nag,
The message '"Maintain outgoing EDI-connection data for partner 199093" comes if the partner profile settings are not maintained properly.
Please check wehther the customer 199093 is maintained under the partner type KU. If it is maintained, please check whether the message type 'ORDRSP' is configured in the outbound parameters for the customer 199093.
If the above settings are done properly, please check whether the output type ZBAO is configured based on the partner type of the customer 199093.
    Hope this solves your problem.
    Regards,
    Vijaymadhur.

  • PO Change O/P error- Maintain outgoing EDI-connection data for partner for

    Hi Experts ,
We are connecting our SAP ECC 6 ( Ehp 4) sytem to 3rd party system via SAP PI.  We already done all the settings..line Output detemination procedure, Partner Profile ( WE20) , Port creation , Condition Records..etc.
We have PO Creation ( ZCRE)  and PO Change ( ZPOC) Outbound messages to go from our system. Both have sepate message Types, since PO Creation IDOc should go immidiatly ( Dispatch time 4-Send immediately (when saving the application)
and PO Change IDoC should send as per wish manully in ME9F ( Dispatch time -3 Send with application own transaction).
Once PO Created , Output Message successfully triggering and  IDoC is creating ( Green Color) ..so it is working fine .
Fo PO Change Message we had selcted Program -FM06AEND & FORM routine -CHANGE_FLAG.
We also set "Multiple issuing " checkbox in the Output Type and no requierment is assigned.
In WE 20, for Logical system ( LS) Partner XYZ,  we set Process code ME11 and checked "Change Message"
    1. But when I change PO Qty , output is not automaticaly triggering .After changing PO, if we see determination Analysis, in Procedure RMBEF1, this output ZPOC shows 2 times. First, it shows green color,...Output Found , and second times, it displays, "partner XYZ is not an EDI partner"
    2. If we try to manually enter the Output ZPOC in PO Header, then system gives the Error - Maintain outgoing EDI-connection data for partner XYZ.
Can anyone pls suggest what should be the reason for above?
    Thanks
    NAP

    Issue Resolved .
The reason for this system behaviour is in fine-tuned control: We was
using ZMIN only for new message output and ZCHG only for change messagesNevertheless, you can maintain two entries in WE20 for ORDCHG:
EF ZCHG ME11 w/o Change message flag
EF ZCHG ME11 with Change message flag

  • IDOC Error - Maintain outgoing EDI-connection data for partner

    Hi
I am trying to send customer invoice to an external system thru IDOC, type INVOIC02. I have done the basic setting for the output type ZEDI to transfer the doc thru edi. But when i got to the output types of the doc and give the type ZEDI and the partner, i get the msg "Maintain outgoing EDI for partner".
I have created a partner profile for customer (KU) for the same partner number in WE20 and have given the outbound parameters with the message type INVOIC.
These are the settigns for my partner profile:
    part type: KU
    msg type: INVOIC
Outbound Options: Receiver port: A000000050 (tRFC)
    Packet size: 1
    Transfer IDOC immeediately
    basic type: INVOIC02
    Message Control: Application: V3
    Msg type: ZEDI
    Process Code: SD09
Following are the steps that I did in VF01
    menu GOTO>> Header>> output
    I have only RD00 there
I manual add ZEDI there hit return, i get the medium, partner function and partner populated to  EDI, SH and the partner number.
i get the msg: Maintain outgoing EDI-connection data for partner 300203.
What other setting should i do to get it working?
    Regards
    Sujai.

    Hello Sujai
In our case we never send any invoice directly to the customer (Ship-to-party) yet to the payer (partner role = 'PY') defined for this customer (check partners in XD03 for Ship-to-party).
The output sent from the invoice is in our case:
    - output = 'ZRD0'
    - medium = '6' (EDI')
    - function = 'PY' (payer)
    - partner = <partner number of payer>
The partner profile (WE20) looks like this:
    - partner no = <partner number of payer>
    - partner type = 'KU' (customer)
    - partner role = 'PY' (payer)
    Regards

  • How to maintain schedule invoice print date

    Hi everyone,
Could anybody please guide me how can we maintain schedule invoice print date in table te417.
Or, please guide how this field gets maintained?
    Thanks and Regards
Edited by: MP Vashishth on Aug 12, 2009 11:36 AM

    hi,
scheduled print invoice date is maintained in 'portion' which is part of the scheduling setup.
scheduling helps in generate dates for meter reading, billing, and budget billing plans etc.
in portion we give some date in the following fields.
end of billing period--Date by which the portion must be billed .
allocation date of billing--used to allocate billing statistically.
scheduled billing date-Date on which the billing of contracts belonging to a portion is to be started
scheduled print invoicing date--date on which printout should be generated.
all these date are important as they help to generate schedule records for billing and invoicing.
the end of billing date should be after scheduled billing date i.e this should be last date
order of dates scheduled billing date 21042008
    scheduled print date  25042008
    end of billing date 30042008
table te417 stores the schedule records which are created for the portion one has made.

  • Create and maintain a payment run date field

    Hello,
I have to use a payment run date on selection screen of my Bex report. The dates of payment run  this year have been given to us. In order for this date to be maintainable (say for next year the date changes by one or two days) , what kid of object do i create in BI side ?
And how do i tell my Bex report that If i select this particular payment date, then data in the report will be corresponding to date only?

    Hi,
You cannot create you own Time charactersitics in BW they are already delivered, examples are 0calday, 0calmonth etc, can you not use 0calday in this case and map the source date field from where ever you load the data to to this time characteristic?

  • Maintaining Cell Style with data update

Having a difficult time trying to maintaining the styles and characteristics (built in ID) of a table from Excel when we update the link to refresh the data.  I have read old threads and went through the proper process of creating; Character, then Paragraph, then Cell Styles, then a Table style but no luck with the Table style. (Like the example in the video; which I agree don't believe it fully works)  But even just using Cell Styles, the data, when updated, is reverted back to it's original plain input and you manually have to apply the Cell Styles.
How can I prevent having to manually do that process/ get the Table Style to work?  Is there a setting or check box that need to be checked when importing the data or relinking/updating the file?  Please help....using CS3.
    thanks,
    Ed

What options are you using when Placing the file? From Help http://help.adobe.com/en_US/InDesign/6.0/WSa285fff53dea4f8617383751001ea8cb3f-6f41a.html:
    Formatted Table
InDesign tries to preserve the same formatting used in Excel, although the formatting of text within each cell may not be preserved. If the spreadsheet is linked rather than embedded, updating the link will override any formatting applied to the table in InDesign.
    Unformatted Table
The table is imported without any formatting from the spreadsheet. When this option is selected, you can apply a table style to the imported table. If you format text using paragraph and characters styles, the formatting is preserved even if you update the link to the spreadsheet.
    Unformatted Tabbed Text
The table is imported as tab-delimited text, which you can then convert to a table in InDesign or InCopy.
    Formatted Only Once
InDesign preserves the same formatting used in Excel during the initial import. If the spreadsheet is linked rather than embedded, formatting changes made to the spreadsheet are ignored in the linked table when you update the link. This option isn’t available in InCopy.
I never use linked Excel files, but it looks to me like you should be using the second option: Unformatted Table.

AnirbanMy opinion is you should forget about the "7.2 million data" (whatever that means) and focus on performance. Are you experiencing an actual performance issue?
I'll leave it to others to decide if my opinion is "valid".

  • AWM maintain CUBE not refreshing data

    Hi,
I have refreshed the data that feeds my CUBE and it seems as if AWM is not deleting old CUBE data, when I view the source table for the CUBE in the mapping I can see there is only 1 row but after I maintain CUBE and tick the delete dimension members checkboxes and run process immediately in this session the original data exists. Any help appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Brandon

    hello brandon,
my solution is quite awkward but it works:
you have to maintain the cube's measure data where the result would be 0 processed data(wierd huh?).
To do that you, you can empty one of the dimension's data(members) by emptying the table/view that it is mapped to, giving you a memberless dimension. Then maintain the cube's measures(do not include dimensions). This will give you a result of 0 processed data, and all records are rejected, all the while emptying the cube.
Then fill back the table/view that is mapped to the memberless dimenstion with data again so it will have its members back when you re-maintain it, then maintain cube data again.
There's probably a more elegant solution out there, but this one works for sure.
