Maintaining frame size when zooming into stills

I am having trouble maintaining the my frame ratio (video is 16:9) when I am importing stills and adding a zoom motion to them. The stills have been sized properly to the 16:9 ratio when they come in, but once I go the motion controls and set the keyframes for the motion, the zooming works but the whole images gets bigger as it is zooming. I want boundary to stay the same but to zoom in on the image. Please help.

I am new to this, so my explanations may be confusing. Let me try to explain my issue again. When I produce my final product I would like to it to be at a 16:9 ratio. From your last response it sounds like I should be able to achieve that through exporting in quicktime. All my video footage is already at 16:9. For the stills I am resizing them in Photoshop (taking into account the square to non-square pixel conversion) and bringing them into Final Cut Express. When I add zoom motion to those stills the image then fills the 4:3 view in the canvas. My video already looks letterboxed in the canvas, and I would like the stills to look the same.
Can this be solved simply through the exporting process or do I need to modify something in FCE? Whatever the solution, my goal is to maintain the highest resolution possible. Thanks.

  • Iphoto Books: How to Enable "fit photo to frame size" when theme grays it out by default

Don't know if this has been posted before or not, but I've been using the "Modern" Theme in iPhoto books and trying for the life of me to figure out how to get my photos to not crop while they're in a single-photo framed layout (I'm not using 4:3 photos; mine are 8.5" by 11"). Even fully zoomed out my photos cut off at the top and bottom. I knew about the "fit photo to frame size" option but the theme had it greyed out--except for on one page, in which it was already enabled. So I must have done it before without paying attention, but it took forever to figure out how to do it again.
    Here's how:
    1. Open up the page you want to modify. I'm assuming here that your photos are already placed, but if not, place the photo you want to use.
    2. Click the Layout tab.
    3. Change the layout to the single page full bleed option--no frame. Your photo should now be blown up across the page.
    4. Right click the photo. The "fit photo to frame size" option should now be available for you to check off. Go ahead and activate it.
    5. Change the layout back to the single photo framed option. Your photo will now fit inside the frame, although to truly see the whole thing you have to open up the Options tab and select the borderless option.
To save time in steps 1-3, and step 5, you can also change the layout of all your pages at once by clicking page 1 (not the cover, the next page), then opening the Layout tab, then selecting the layout you want. You still have select the "fit photo to frame size" individually for each photo.
Hope this is useful for people.

There is an option for the Initial View that is "Magnification:" "Fit Page".  And this works for the initial page when the PDF is opened and it does not matter what the page size it, Acrobat/Reader will automatically fill the screen with the page. If you want the zoom type to change with each page then you need  add a page open script to each page to set the pages zoom type to "zoomtype.fitP"
    this.zoomType = zoomtype.fitP;

  • Is it possible to define the frame size when capture from MiniDV?

I am editing a series of tapes which I did not film and don't have the original camera. I am capturing it using my Canon ZR500. When I capture it the frame size is 720 by 480 (3:2). Is there any possibility that by using a different camera I could be inadvertently changing the frame size? (I can't see where I could but someone in this project thinks the aspect ration should be 4:3 - I can't see anywhere I could be changing it.)

I have just given this a quick browse but I think it just explains how to make slides match the frame size. I used keynote to make the slide - probably not the best but I don't have photoshop. But the principle should be the same?
But using an incorrect slide size shouldn't affect the aspect ratio of the final video should it?
After I create the .mov file from FCE I use MPEG Streamclip to produce an .mp4 version to upload to the internet. If I use Streamclip to view the stream info it still shows a frame size of 720 by 480.
    Am I missing something?

  • Can't figure out why my zoom into stills shakes

I have been using keyframes to create zooms and pans over pics, but every once in a while one of the pics shakes while it's moving. I can't figure out why this happens- any ideas? THANKS

What you might be experiencing is a scaling issue: you're not really zooming into a picture but actually scaling it. Keep in mind DV is a 4:3 ratio. And your photos probably aren't. Scaling an image is shifting the pixels in an image and so if you're making the picture grow or shrink, you're shifting those pixels and that's could be what you are seeing. What size are your pictures? Are they huge, like twice the size of your standard 720 x 480 DV?
If your photo images are extremely large (like 2838 x 2205, 300 dpi) you might try opening them up in a program like Photoshop and making a smaller version. You can force the results to be 4:3 by using the Crop tool. Be sure to adjust the Crop settings to something like 1440 px x 960 px , 72 dpi (double 720 x 480 so you can still scale) and then Crop the photo. Keep in mind, you might lose some of the photo because it isn't 4:3, so use Crop judiciously. Save the resulting image as something else and try using it instead of the original. Be sure to _render the results in the Timeline_ even though Final Cut may refer to it as a real-time effect.
Also you should only have four total keyframes: a keyframe for the starting Scale size and a keyframe for the starting Center position. Then you should have a keyframe for the ending point for both Scale and Center where the image in Final Cut's Canvas window is either larger or smaller. That's it. If you have any other keyframes in-between these four, you can have problems-- which show up as the image moving around, hesitation, or some other unwanted movements.
    Good luck!

  • IPad photo app crashes when zooming into pictures

I have about 15 GB of photos on this iPad- and the photo app crashes any time I try to pinch to zoom into a picture. anyone else having this problem? what's the deal? works sometimes but crashes 2 out of three times.

Did you get any fruitful answers from an Apple Genius? Sure wouldn't mind saving myself a trip. Thanks.
    Nutshell:
I've had two iPads thus far where I cannot use the Photos app because anytime I scroll it crashes.
I had my first iPad replaced since it couldn't play any video without the entire machine locking up and requiring a forced restart. (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11320267&#11320267 ) The Photos app on my first iPad would also crash anytime I attempted to scroll through my photos.
Now, the Photos app on my second, replacement iPad is behaving the same way, it always crashes when I scroll.
    Observations:
    • I didn't put any of the same photos back on my replacement iPad, I started with an empty Photos app which ever since only contains images that I've saved to the Photos app from other apps on the iPad, e.g. screenshots, saving images from Safari, Mail, etc.
    • I did test drive the Photos app after having saved only a handful of images ( ≈ 30 imgs) and was happy to see that it DID NOT crash. Unfortunately it wasn't long after, having had saved a handful or so more images to the photo library that the app again began to crash anytime I would begin scrolling down through images.

  • Keep stroke weight when zooming into a comp

    Hello
I am building an animation which depicts the building of an element in Photoshop using grid, guides, and bezier paths. I need to represent these items graphically, and not using a screen grab animation.
I need to zoom into a comp up to 800% and show how paths and grid are manipulated in pixel-perfect work. When zooming in, the paths that show the grid and the bezier paths must stay at 1px in width at all zoom levels.
I'll be creating "bezier" strokes using the path tool in AE. I'll be applying a line weight to it in order to show the strokes. When I zoom in, the strokes need to stay the same weight.
What's the easiest way to accomplish this?
    Thanks,
    ------------S

You would link the stroke width of e.g. a shape layer to the zoom/ scale with a linear() expression.
    linear(zoom,startzoom,endzoom,startwidth,endwidth)
Fill in values as needed. The actual zoom varable could be linked to a slider ir the scale of the pre- comped main animation in the parent comp...

  • AAC audio file increase in size when imported into DVD Studio Pro

    Hello all!
I just encountered a very unique issue with the DVD Studio Pro. I used the compressor to export my video as an MPEG2 file and my audio as AAC file. After the compression my audio file had an .mpg4 extention and was about 160MB in size. When I imported it into my DVD Studio Pro project, however, the audio increased in size to 1.2 GB. I tried so many different compressions, but the problem really is (I think) that the file bumps up in size once imported into DVD SP project. Is there anything in preferences that I need to adjust or change? Please help!
    Thank you.

    Hi
I'm a little lost now with versions history, but if you have A.Pack in your App folder, then must use it. Check this tutorial: Encoding AC3 with A.Pack.
Compressor 2 and 3 has AC3 encoding inside the main application.

  • Zooming in on a picture while maintaining frame size

    Hi all,
I am hoping someone would be able to tell be how I could zoom in on a photo without it expanding to cover the other footage in a shot.
To better vizualize... imagine you have footage of an interview... the person speaking is on the left. I would like to place a picture on the right side of the screen and zoom in on the picture without also increasing the overall amount of space that picture takes up on the screen. I assume there must be some type of framing tool.
I am running Premiere Pro CS4 - full production suite. I also have CS4 Design Suite if that has the right tool.
Thanks for helping out a noobie!
    Dan

Perhaps I need to be more clear, I want to do a gradual zoom. Not simply show the whole picture, then show a close up.
I mean, sure I could go into each frame and recrop the picture, but that would be ridiculous.
There must be an automated way of doing it. A way to set boundries for a picture, so that no matter how far you zoom in, the overall dimensions of the photo, visible over footage, does not change.

  • Frame "wobbles" when zooming or panning on stills

I have an annoying problem with CS5.5.  I have assembled a range of slides - all stills - and made a voice-over and added music.  All good except that when I animate some of the slides with movement like a gentle zoom in or a pan when the film is rendered and exported the slides bearing these effects all have a "wobble".  Its only a slight wobble (more like a very light bounce at a rate of about 5/sec) but easily percepetible and unnacceptable to my client.  Please can anyone advise what is wrong here?

    Issue Resolved!
90 minutes with Adobe support (Paul Ashish; you're a God) and we cracked it.  Here are the lessons for all to share and take note:
    1. My system had a wonky copy of quicktime so we refreshed the version that helped.
    2. I was not opening the prog "as administrator" which I now will in all cases - u will not be able to do this unless you have a fresh quicktime anyway.
    3. There is a magic bullet button on the export settings page called "Match settings" clicking this did a number of things given the nature of my original material which included a wide variety of source files all without attendant support info folders which the memory stick on the camera they were taken would have made available (they arrived with me via dropbox).
    4. Choosing the Youtube HD preset as an export setting in h264 seemed like a good idea but it sent the file to a DIVX format which didnt help either.  Clicking Match settings on export meant PP could "assume" some of the missing settings since the original support files and folders associated with the material werent there AND it sent the output to a Media Player format (mpeg) which showed no bounce.
    5. While DVIX is a not too bad player Downloading VLC player helped too.
    Watch it bounce-free at http://youtu.be/w2WuVyVBn6o
I am one happy boy and cant recommend Adobe Support enough.

  • Maintaining original video size when importing into Flash

    Hi All,

  • Captivate 3 is wrong size when importing into Flash CS3

I've tried exporting, publishing etc. and no matter how I
try, when I import into Flash CS3 the size of the Captivate content
(background screens, in particular) are too small. For example, I
captured a 423x424 area for my Captivate project. When I import
into a Flash CS3 project with the same dimensions the Captivate
content (screens) are more like 203x203.5 and the mouse path and
slide context starting positions are upper left corner. I've tried
adjusting some of the importing settings but can't get the screens
the right size unless I resize each one manually - and I have

  • Black frame flash when cross-fading still photographs

Hi, thanks for theuseful answers to questions. I have not seen this one, forgive me if it is somewhere. I am in iMovie HD 6.03 with a MacBook Pro.
When I cross-dissolve two still pictures ( with Ken Burns Effect on) I am left with a flash on the incoming picture, near the beginning. It is a black frame I can't remove, because doign so will un-render the dissolve! What a Catch 22, adn what a weird glitch!
I guess the frame comes in where the transition ends, but why would it do that? It is very evident when I play the series of crossfaded stills, it comes out as a big flash on each incoming pic. Does anyone have any workarounds or suggestions for applying the crossdissolve in a different way to avoid this? Or a cosmetic fix? Or maybe I just fade out and back in, what a drag for a whole bunch of pix.
    thanks in advance,
    maynemoon.
    thanks so much.

    Hi maneymoon:
    Welcome to discussions!
If you delete the transition, you can always put it
    back in without any problems.
    Sue
Thanks for the welcome, Sue! I am indeed new, but not new to Macs and audio. But this is my first iMovie experience.
As to your answer, yes, I know I can delete the transition and re-apply, but when I reapply it, I still have the extra frame problem no matter what. ( I was trying to manually remove the extra black frame the transition left me with)
I am mainly wanting not get this black flash when I do a crossfade between two still pictures, or why I am getting it at all.
I want to use cross-dissolve transitions between the pictures, but can't get rid of the danged flash! thanks.

  • Any way to change the video frame size once imported into fcp?

I have an edit that was done with 2 cameras. I wanted to create a multiclip edit but the size of the video from the 2 cameras are different. One file is 720x480 and the other is 720x486. My sequence is 720x480. Is there a way to adjust the 720x486 footage while in fcp to match the 720x480 footage without re importing the footage.
    Thanks

first determine what you want your sequence dimensions to be. 480 or 486. if it's 486 then just take your 480 clips and scale them slightly so they will the entire frame. if your sequence dimensions are 480 then you shouldn't need to adjust your 486 clips.the FCP manuals suggest that your footage will look better upscaling them with Compressor rather than in FCP. but it all depends on what your delivery is.

  • Please help me!  Illustrator CS3 can't maintain correct size when saving to PDF!

    Hi - please help me!
We run a Mac with CS3 Suite to design our signs for print & vinyl cut.
Most of our files are 50 - 120 cms wide & high, some larger.
If I create a document in Illustrator for exapmle of 100 cms x 100cms, put some artwork (vector) inside, and save it as a high res PDF, then close the file and open the PDF in illustrator, you can gaurentee that the dimensions will have changed by a fraction of a mm.  If working with bigger artwork it can be out but up to half a mil.  Typically a file could become say 58.687cm instead of 59cm.
Anyone know why the heck this does that??
It's the artwork & the artboard.
    Thanks,
    Henoch

All of AI's math is based on points and inches and depending on DPI settings, there may be rounding errors with otehr unit systems. Perfectly normal. Has been forever that way. you may try to place an empty dummy frame around the entire artwork to enforce a specific artboard/ crop board size. Sometimes helps, but not always...
