Maintaining iPhoto sort order when sending to iDVD

Hello - I have a few iPhoto Events I'd like to put on a DVD as separate chapters.
However, the sorting order I set when viewing Events (using the title) is not preserved when I send them to iDVD. iDVD seems to get them sorted by file name.
A work-around is to export the slides by title (not file name) then re-import them into iDVD but this takes time and brain power.
Is there a faster way to preserve the viewing order when sending iPhoto Event pictures to iDVD?
All help gratefully received.
David.

David,
Create an Album in iPhoto (one for each slideshow) and arrange it the way you want. The Media Pane in iDVD should see the Albums and let you select one. You can drag a whole album into the Slideshow creation window and iDVD will import it, preserving the album order.
Regards.

  • Maintaining custom sort order when copying between albums

Is there any way that you folks have discovered to maintain the custom sort order of the images in an album when copying these images into a another album? Duping the album is not an answer, as I need to collate the contents of a number of albums into one.
I tried selecting the contents of the album that I had just done the custom sorting in, and making it into one big stack, to try to move that to keep the order. Aperture informed me that stacking only works on images from one project.
OK, since I now know this fact about stacking, is there any good way to merge projects? I have a ton of work on the images in the individual projects, and don't want to redo anything.
Anyway, hope you get the problem, any help will be appreciated.

  • List of found events changes sort order when pasted from clipboard

when I find a set of events in iCal, the list appears in the window at the bottom of the page in the correct sort order when sorted by date, title or type. When I then copy that list to the clipboard and paste it into another program (Pages, MacJournal, TextEdit) the sort order changes.
I work mostly in English, but my macbookpro keyboard is German, so I assume the problem is with the language settings. I've tried changing the system preferences for language and sort order, and that changes the sort order, but it doesn't get it right.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

  • E66: Configuring contact sort order when composing...

    Dear friends,
This is probably a silly issue but still, I can't find a solution... I have upgraded my aging Nokia E66 RM-343 to 400.21.013 (this version was suggested by the Nokia Suite and it keeps telling me that this is the latest version). After the upgrade and restoring the phone settings, I am having problems with the contacts sort order when choosing recipients for an SMS message.
I have configured the contact list for the "Last Name First Name" display order, and when making a voice call, the sort order is correct - the contacts are sorted by the last name. However, when writing an SMS message and choosing the recipients, the contact list is displayed in the "Last Name, First Name" mode but it is sorted by the first name which is extremely confusing and inconvenient.
I just do not seem to be able to find where the sort order for the contact list as displayed when composing an SMS message can be configured. Anyone have any suggestion/hint? Thank you very much in forward!
    Best regards,
    Peter

Unfortunately, the 6230i seems to have only one field for the contact name, so it has no way of knowing what is what. I guess the only thing you can do is reinput all the names manually.

  • How do I get Iphoto to preserve the sort order when I transfer an album?

Here's my problem. I carefully sorted my album of 230 photos manually. Each photo was then numbered from 1 to 230.   Then I used IPhoto Library Manager to transfer this album someplace else -- to my desktop, to a thumb drive, to Dropbox---   In every case, when I did that, the photos themselves transfered just fine,  but the sort order I had so carefully constructed has fallen apart and cannot by retrieved. Even  when I  close and then reopen an Album I have transferred to my Desktop, it loses its sort order.  This is driving my crazy  because I need to transfer this album so that it preserves the slideshow I have designed for it. A slideshow, of course, demands preserving the order of the slides.
In short, how can I preserve the sort order of an album when I transfer it out of one library to another?

If you're transferring to another library, why are you exporting to the Finder (which is what Desktop, thumbdrive and DropBox are). This doesn’t understand manual sorting from iPhoto.
Here's one (of several) way(s) to do what you want:
Make an Album of the photos, then drag the pics into your preferred order.
Then Photos Menu: Batch Change -> Set Title to Text "John's Birthday", for instance, and tick the box to append a number to each Photo. Now your photos are titled 'John's Birthday 001, John's Birthday 002 ... etc'
Then File -> Export and in the Export dialogue set the Filename to "Use Title"
Sort on Filename in the FInder and you end up with a folder full of images in the same order as the Album in iPhoto.

  • IPhoto sort order changes on iPad/iPhone when photos are edited

I have been having issues getting photos to display in the correct order on my iPad, iPhone and Apple TV. When I go into an event I want the first photo taken to be at the top and the last at the bottom. I sort by date so that photos taken on different cameras at the same event appear in chronological order and this works very well in iPhoto on my Mac. There is a problem when I sync to my devices though. Sometimes the order on my devices is the same as in iPhoto on my Mac and other times it is not. A recent software update seems to have cured the major issue, but created another. After some experimentation I have discovered that editing a photo changes its position in the sort, even if the adjustment has nothing to do with the date.
I picked a sample event and adjusted the contrast of the first photo. There was no change to sort order on the Mac. I hit sync in iTunes and the photo now displays last on my iPhone. Go back into iPhoto, click on "Revert to Original", sync iTunes again and the photo now displays first again. Seems like a bug to me.

I also have have the same issue and have been on the phone with Apple Care....not much help I'm afraid although I do believe something is broken and requires a fix. Here is what I have found (all software up to date and latest OS BTW)....I have sorted all my pictures by Date, if I want to add a straggler I just alter the original date and all is well within the event.  I then "batch change" the event to the tile and event name. So the pictures in the event are named " Holiday 2012  1-xxx.  Again, all is well in iPhoto but when sent to an iPad or Apple TV the sort is as siwilson mentioned above.  I just discovered a temp work around for events with less than 1000 pictures, if I sort by Title I can get them to show correctly on the ATV and iPad. Now what was/is interesting is somethimes they would sort correct and sometimes not.  It turns out that if you sort the event by Title and quit iPhoto and reopen it....it has reverted back to sort by Date. It does that everytime. So what I do is turn home sharing off in iTunes (forces it to look at the photos again), open an iPhoto event and sort by Title.  Then I turn home sharing on in iTunes (leaving iPhoto open) and sync my iPad.  If I want ot stream photos to my ATV I must leave iPhoto open so the sort remains as I set it. If I want to retain the correct sort this is what I need to do each time. So this is a bandage for me until they fix things.  One final about pictures over 1000.....it sorts them as mentioned above with another twist, numbering goes 0001, 1000, 1001, 1002 etc.  @#$% why can't they just sort the way iPhoto presents them?

  • IPhoto - sort order mixed up!

I am on Yosemite and and all the latest updates.  The other day my Macbook Pro would not wake so i had to "hard" reboot.  I had iPhoto opened when this happened.  When i rebooted iPhoto had to repair/rebuild database.  NOW, the Order-By-Date is all mixed up.  Goes from 2008, 2004, 2009, 2005, 2012, 2006 and so on - any idea's on how to fix thins?  The dates are correct on the photo's, but they are all out of order.
    Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

  • IPhoto - sort order

I can not get my new iPad 3 to work with iPhoto
The sort order is NOT date and NOT by name
I have tried to change on iMac to date and then sync
But nothing ocuurs on iPhoto - iPad3
How do I get a proper sort order for occasions?
    Anyone know?

I found a solution for the events remaining in the same order as in iphoto 9.1.1. After leaving the events in the order you want in iPhoto, edited the date and time information (exif file) of the first picture of each event. For example, I have ordered several events manually in iPhoto. I got in first and put the first photo of the first event to date 01/01/1958 12:00:00 by Pictures menu> Adjust Date and Time. In the second event to repeat the same process, and changed the date for the first photo to 01/01/1959 12:00:00. And so adding one year to each event to the last. After this change, re-syncronize all events with iphone4 and events were in the same order that had set in iphoto 9.1.1. This is because the iphone4 with IOS 4.2.1 uses the information contained in the EXIF photo files and sort by this information. I hope helped with this tip, which worked for me. When I add a new event, I have to sync your entire library again.

  • 'Film Rolls' View loses sort order when finding photos via Keywords or text

I have my iPhoto Library sorted by Film Roll so when I select 'Library' in the source list I see my rolls listed in date order in the viewing area.
If I try and find photos using the keywords pane or the search field the rolls which match are displayed in the viewing area but the order they are listed is no longer according to their date but some (seemingly) random order.
Does anyone else have this problem?

I find that if I have my rolls sorted by Film roll and Ascending (by roll date) the keyword search results will have the rolls in the correct chronological order.
However if I change the sort order to Descending , the search order remains as Ascending by roll date.
If you create a Smart album for a keyword search then you can sort the photos by any criteria you'd like: Date, Keyword (redundant), Rating or Title and Ascending or Descending.

  • How to change sort order when viewing all tracks by an artist?

    When I choose:
    Music --> Artists --> <any artist> --> All
The tracks are organized in the order they apear in an alphabetized list of that artist's albums.
    For example:
    Joe Blow - CD 1
    Track 1
    Track 2
    Track 3
    Joe Blow - CD 2
    Track 1
    Track 2
    Track 3
In the "All Songs By Artist" list, the songs appear as:
    Track 1
    Track 2
    Track 3
    Track 1
    Track 2
    Track 3
How can I cange the sort order, so that they are sorted alphabetically, like this?
    Track 1
    Track 1
    Track 2
    Track 2
    Track 3
    Track 3

  • Playlists lose sort order when burning to CD

I have several MP3 tracks I need to burn to MP3 CD, and they need to appear in order. I've tagged the MP3 files using XLD (track name/number, etc). I followed the Apple Support Guidelines for burning playlists with a particular sort order. I've tried all 3 methods, including manually dragging the files into the correct order and right-clicking/choosing "Copy to Play Order". The playlist appears in the correct order, however when I go ahead and burn the CD, the contents of the disc appear out of iTunes, regardless of what I do. I've looked all over Google and found people with similar issues to mine but, as of yet, no workable solution.

Has anyone been able to solve this maddening problem? I can't understand why iTunes doesn't sort the disc in alphabetical ascending order. The MP3 files are all tagged sequentially, starting with track number – so why does track 5 appear first in the playlist order? My only other alternative to burning with iTunes is to use Toast, which produces MP3 CDs that don't mount in iTunes. A quick search of the forums proves I'm not the only person having these problems.

  • ScreenSaver problem with IPhoto sort order

I am trying to always sort and display the 3300 photos in my IPhoto (ILife08) library in chronological order, with the most recent events and imports displayed at the top of the main "Photos" window so we see them first when we open the program or when ScreenSaver starts up.
How can I force the System (10.5.5.) ScreenSaver to display my IPhoto library photos with the most recently taken shots appearing first when the ScreenSaver starts up ? Instead, the opposite is happening and ScreenSaver always shows pictures from ancient history instead of our most recent shots. I've been told to delete the ScreenSaver cache but I can't find it.

Thanks for your response. I thought there was something I wasn't doing right or something I was missing.
Aperture and Mobileme syncing is really "hit or miss", unpredictable. Especially after a manual arrangement of the order of photos within an album. And selection of the "key photo" is also hit or miss. Sometimes it sticks. Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it sticks for a bit and then reverts back to the 1st photo of the album.
It's ironic that one of Apple's motto is "it just works"! In this case, it really doesn't work!

  • IPhoto sort order doesn't affect my iPad photos app

I've fallowed the instructions as in other posts but my photos are still in a different order than in iPhoto. Anyone have any similiar problems?

When you say that you've followed instructions in other posts, have you tried deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try the photo sync and see if they then copy over in the correct order ? The location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314

  • Line details sort order when using Pick and Pack

    Hi,
A customer of mine recently complained (very small complain) that when he used "Per date" as a sort when using Pick & Pack, that the line details where not grouped together by Sales Order Number.
    Example:
    2008/11/23   SO1001 - Line 1
    2008/11/23   SO1013 - Line 3
    2008/11/23   SO1001 - Line 2
    2008/11/23   SO1001 - Line 4
    2008/11/23   SO1021 - Line 1
    2008/11/23   SO1001 - Line 5
    etc...
Is there a way to sort records on two columns instead of just one? or would there be another workaround this issue?
    Thanks
    Charles

I think I found my answer, sorting data using the Data/Sort feature allows for sorting on multiple columns.
