Maintenance Plan Issue

Dear All,
I have maintained Strategy with Offset as 6 12 36 76 & 84 Months & no cycle length for the same .
As i wanted to get order only for specific months , now as i schedule the plan the system is creating order for past dates dates also which i don't want .
Tasklist Key Date - 01.01.2006 as we want to upload back date data.
E.g Start date 01.01.2008
1     29.06.2008                                   HF     New start Save to call
2     26.12.2008                                   Y     Scheduled Save to call
3     16.12.2010                                   3Y     Scheduled Save to call
4     25.11.2014     25.11.2014                 7Y     Scheduled Hold
Please suggest what setting i have to change.

Hi,
1. If u dont want past dates then u can enter restart and enter present /future date ..in start date of the Maintenance Plans ..,IP10 ..
2. If ur using offset then on scheduling system first calculates planned dates as per offset cycle for each package then goes to the cycle length of the packages .
3. You can use Hirerachy in strategies in IP11 if u want to avoid unwanted calls , Like 6month call if u do not want to generate on 12th month then hirerachy will be helpful , in this for 12th month u can H2, 6th -H1,same for other packages also
4. If ur looking for something different u can explore user exit :-IPRM0002 Determine planned date info for maintenance plan

This problem occurs if some of the stored procedures while installing SP2 has not been applied successfully. So manually run the script below and it may resolve
your issue. It resolved ours and we went throught exact same process of re-installing several times.
                1)
First go to the folder Install . The default location is this = “C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Install “ .
Please post back still your issue not resolves.
2)
Then in this folder find this “sysdbupg.sql” .
3)
Please open this script with a nodepad.
4)
Then copy the
whole script and then paste it in the Query window of the Management studio.
5)
Then execute this script.
6)
Once this script has been successfully executed, The issue should be resolved.

Database updates statistics maintenance plan issue.

Hi team,
We are configured one job through maintenance plan that job name is “database update statistics” and database size is 280 Gb, this job executing 13 to 15 hours but job was not finished still it’s continually running.
This same job I am running through below script it’s executing within 2 hours.
Use database
Go
Exec sp_updatestats
What is the main problem if this maintenance plan.
Note: on this server no jobs and no traffic, only abc_update subpaln1 Job.

Updating stats for whole database which is 280 G will always result in problem.It is better to run update statistics for tables and indexes which are changed frequently.
Now to your question few points which sp_Updatestas list in BOL

sp_updatestats updates statistics on disabled nonclustered indexes and does not update statistics on disabled clustered indexes.
sp_updatestats updates only the statistics that require updating based on the rowmodctr information in the sys.sysindexes catalog view, thus avoiding unnecessary updates of statistics
on unchanged rows.

Maintenance Plan Issue in SQL 2005

Hi All,
In SQL 2005 server maintenance plans are not active. If we execute maintenance plan manually, it will show as success but actually it is not running and history also not recording.
Server Details:
Product version: 9.00.1399.06
Product Level: RTM
Product Edition: Developer Edition
OS: Windows server 2003 with SP2, Enterprise Edition
We are able to create maintenance plans, also SQL agent jobs are running fine.
But maintenance plans are not working.
Can anyone please suggest, what will be the problem.

Thanks for your immediate reply.
Sure will apply SP4 asap.
Maintenance plan created to take backups, when I right click and execute maintenance plan, it will show as success but backups are not happening, also in view history nothing is recording.
Actually no maintenance plan is working on this server.
If I modify any maintenance plan while saving modifications, it is showing bellow message. But changes are reflecting in maintenance plan
Message:
Guid should contain 32 digits with 4 dashes ( xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx)
Ex: Right clicked on backup maintenance plan and selected modify.
then added one more database name in backup list and while saving changes, we are getting above message.

Issue in displaying Maintenance Plan Category.....

I have created a maintenance plan category ZQ , copying PM category in the golden client, and transported it to test client. This customized plan category is not populated in the transaction IP41 in both servers, golden client and test client. whereas this value is populated in list edit(IP15) maintenance plan category. I have checked in SPRO setting also and is available.
Path of config:
spro>plant maintenance and customer service>set maintenance paln category & assign number range.
Is there anything missing?

In the configuration have you set the call object correctly. Call object must be a PM object for it to appear in IP41, but can be anything to appear in IP15.
I have replicated this and cannot find any issues - ZQ is available in both IP41 and IP15 transactions, call object used - Maintenance and Service orders

"Value cannot be null" error when trying to edit or create Maintenance Plan in SQL Server 2008

I have SQL Server 2008 installed on Windows Server 2008 64bit, every time I try to open or create a new Maintenance Plan I receive the error:
Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: component (System.Design)
Program Location:
   at System.ComponentModel.Design.DesignerHost.System.ComponentModel.Design.IDesignerHost.GetDesigner(IComponent component)
   at Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.VsIntegration.DtsDesignerService.OpenDesigner(String connectionString, Object connection, String objectUrn)
   at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.DatabaseMaintenance.MaintDesignerMenuHandler.Invoke()
And in the Design view screen
"Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio is unable to load this document: Could not load type 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.runtime.Wrapper.IDTSPackageSigning100' from assembly 'Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSRunTimeWrap, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral'.
I have searched for a possible solution and have tried some suggestions of registering the msxml6.dll but and have installed VS2008 SP1 but I'm not in a position where I can do a full reinstall of SQL Server right now. Any help is appreciated. My SQL server
environment information is below.

I digged a little deeper and figured out it was a missing directory/file in %TEMP%. Seems some CleaningTool removes all files/directories in %Temp% and after that SSMS was not working any longer. The missing file is actually not needed, but the
missing directory causes the "Value cannot be null" error.
My missing file name was:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\2\6vvdaozf.tmp
But the file name changes on every startup.
So my missing directory name was:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\2
After creating a empty directory with the name "2" in %TEMP% all went back to work fine for me.
I'm not sure the directory name is every time the same, but you can discover your missing file with the process monitor from Sysinternal Tools and filters to "Process Name is ssms.exe" and "Path contains AppData\Local\Temp"
Hope this helps other people to solve their issues too.
Thank you!! When I run %temp% it takes me to "C:\Users\Admin ...~\AppData\Local\Temp\some random number". At first the random number was 3, after I logged off and back on it was 2. My temp variable in enviromental variables is correct. I looked on another machine
running SQL2008 and temp is correct there. If I try to rename the numbered folder SSMS stops working. Any idea?

Work Order - Maintenance Planning plant change

Hi Gurus,
Is there any way to change the maintenance planning plant in a created work order? We are having an issue on work orders and we need to tranfer our open work orders to another plants to solved the issue. Please me let me know if this is possible to do in SAP. And let me know how to do it in SAP.

Hi,
The start of the plan is not option as this will surely have an impact. Anyway, work around for this issue was provided and this is OK now. We will continue with the old orders untill such time they will finally be closed. No postings will be created against this old orders and if there's a need to do GR new orders will be created in new plants for the postings.

Certain Maintenance Plan not getting scheduled in the background job

Hi Gurus,
I am facing an issue here.
A weekly background job (RISTRA20) runs every weekend and schedules the maintenance plans.
But we have noticed that some maintenance plans are not getting scheduled. i.e no orders or schedule is getting generated.
When I run IP30 manually for these plans then the schedule gets generated and orders get called.
I have checked up the background job and it is running fine.
Also, i have noticed a similarity in all these plans which are not getting scheduled. There schedule has been restarted (through IP10) at somepoint or the other.
But i don't see any direct impact of this?
Can any of you provide some help on this?? Points will be rewarded.

Thanks for replying.
The message number for 'Groups don't match' is ME303.
I think this does not have anything to do with the restart as i have done further investigation.
Whenever I run IP30 with sortfield input as AS02*, i get the error as mentioned above for a certain number of maintenance plans while the remaining plans get scheduled.
If i run IP30 for any other sort fields, it runs fine and i don't encounter the error
mentioned above.

Management studio error while creating/editing maintenance plan

I had MS SQL 2012 enterprise edition installed and everything was working fine. Later I removed MS SQL 2012 and re-installed. Now when I am trying to create maintenance plan I am getting below error. When I click Yes system allows me to go through the maintenance
plan wizard and create new plan but when I want to edit it give me same error and it doesn't open screen to edit the plans. Can you please provide solution to below error?

I tried repair option from MS SQL 2012 setup but it didn't solve the problem. This is my production system and it has TFS 2013 and it's database. Please let me know how severe this problem is? Is it something to be worried about in future? How do I solve

Thanks for your reply. I resolved this issues yesterday by installing SQL Server
Management Tools Complete. I suspect that
Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.VsIntegration.DtsPackage, Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.VsIntegration
DLL files were having issues. When I searched my system I could only find Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.VsIntegration.DLL and
Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.VsIntegration.DtsPackage.DLL file was missing.
When I re-ran the MS SQL setup to add new feature I selected Management Tools Complete and after installation this error was resolved. Though this has solved the issue for now I feel the error shouldn't have come with Management Tools -
Basic installation as I had installed MS SQL Server before with Management Tools - Basic and it had worked without any issues.
For now this issue is resolved but it will be of good help if I can know the cause of this error and what could be the possible solution.

Error when running Maintenance plan

According to your description, you get errors when double-clicking on the Maintenance Plan. Based on my research, this issue could be due to that DTS Package is corrupt or missing. You could follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue.
1.Uninstall Management tools. In Control Panel, click Uninstall a program, click Microsoft SQL Server (for example, Microsoft SQL Server 2012(64-bit)) and click Remove. Select a instance and then select the feature 'Management tools' to uninstall.
2.Reinstall the following features from SQL Server setup, make sure that the installation of these tools complete successfully.
a. SQL Server data tools
b. Client tools SDK
c. Client tools backwards compatibility
d. Management tools-complete

Mandatory field "Priority" for maintenance plan

Hi,
Setting mandatory fields on preventive maintenance plan is not possible in customizing.
So the alternative are:
     - User-exit as described above (TCode SMOD)
     - Transaction variants (TCode SHD0)
I've tried SMOD: this approach is not a user friendly option. The user get an error but the field are greyed out and need to click on cancel before the are able to enter data.
So I triend the screen variant (SHD0). But I'm having an issue on the field "Priority" (RMIPM-PRIOK). The dropdownlist is not working...
Does anyone has a workaround? I want to avoid development...

I understand that you are trying to make the Priority field (PRIOK) in maintenance item mandatory. It is a very simple task with User-Exit. Just put the following code in the include ZXPRMU06 of user-exit IPRM0004.
IF IMPOS_IMP-PRIOK IS INITIAL.
   MESSAGE: 'Please Fill the Priority field.' TYPE 'I'.
   RAISE NO_UPDATE.
ENDIF.
You will get this message and the Plan is refused to be saved until Priority Field is filled.
Your ABAPer will be able to do it in few seconds.

SQL Server Maintenance Plan does not run DEL command in .BAT

I have a T-SQL Statement task in my Maintenance Plan that runs a .BAT file and it runs OK when manually executed. The .BAT file has a del d:\backups\*.* command in it. However, when the plan runs automatically at a scheduled time, the .BAT file does
not delete files. Could this be a permissions issue?

This looks like a permission issue. Make sure the account SQL instance is running has delete permissions on the folder from which you are trying to delete and also make sure the account has execute permission on that batch file.

Maintenance Plan Date Monitoring

Dear Experts,
Around 50 pages of print out is getting printed in our Office Printed with the heading Maintenance Plan Date Monitoring.
Maintenance Plan || Maintenance Stategy || MaintPlanText
We know that there is a background Process running which generates Maintenance Orders.
But we are not able to find out from where it is printing.
Please help us out in this issue.

I am not sure how you can deactivate printing from the current background job.
But i can help you to create a new background job from IP30 Dead line monitoring. here when you click on program and execute in background it will ask for a printer Give the printer name then insted of clicking on continue click on properties button. In properties see general properties there is a line for time of printing double click on the parameter value to select the appropriate value in you case select send to spooler only for now. this should solve your problem and then continue in the normal way.

Change or Add Cycles in a Maintenance Plan (IP02)

we have an issue with a number of maintenance plans that were setup as 1 year cycles, and now we want to run them as monthly. Is there a way to either change the yearly cycle to monthly, or add a new monthly cycle?

You are correct, the key word here is "approximately", as the Cycle Modification Factor has only two decimals of precision, you will need to input 0,08 to reflect the appropriate factor of 1/12=0,08(3) - so that will mean your cycle is 360*0,08=28,8 and not 30 days, which is why I did not propose this route. But if it's not an issue, then yes, that's another way to do this
EDIT: Which reminds me, after switching the cycle to monthly, consider if you require Time or Key Date scheduling on the Maintenance Plan scheduling parameters, as for SAP 1 Month = 30 Days with the former, but with the latter the scheduling is always for the same day of each month.

Deadline Monitoring for Maintenance Plans

Hi there,
i want to execute the deadline monitoring (IP30) for a maintenance plan in
a function module. Unfortunately I couldn't find a function module for this
purpose.
So I tried to execute RISTRA20 (program connected to IP30) with the
following statement:
SUBMIT ristra20
USING SELECTION-SCREEN '1000'
WITH SELECTION-TABLE rspar_tab
AND RETURN.
Problem with this call is that some dialogue-dynpros are shown - I want the deadline monitoring completely in the background.
Any ideas? Thx in advance..

we have found similar problems in many PM jobs; in some cases there are some Notes pointing to the issue ( and fixing them, too ) ; for this case check Note 984177 and related.
