Maintenance Wizard 2.15 env question

Hello,
Using MW to upgrade our 11.5.10.2 instance to R12.1.1.
How is the environment setup, like LD_LIBRARY_PATH for the upgrade? Do we source the .profile? Or does MW do this for us?
Regards,
M

M,
The MW takes care of setting and source all necessary environment variables for you, aside from what's in the Installation Steps.

  • EBS upgrade from 11i to R12 using Maintenance Wizard question

I have installed Maintenance Wizard in development envrionment. I picked module to upgrade 11i to R12. When I am defining the node it not only picked up 11i nodes but required me to configure R12 nodes. So Do I have to to create upgrade file system(for R12) and then configured R12 nodes in Define nodes? My configuration is in In configuration at this time as I did not configured R12 nodes.
Please help me resolve this issue.

My question is which database oracle_home we have to consider to upgrade R12? and What about another one oracle_home?
When you run Rapid Install, provide the details of the already upgraded/installed 11.2.0.3 ORACLE_HOME.
For 11gR1 ORACLE_HOME which is installed by Rapid Install, please see (How to upgrade Oracle E-Business Suite from 11i to 12.1.1 and keep the existing 10g Database? (Doc ID 1345020.1)).

  • 11i to R12 upgrade and Maintenance Wizard and the Maintenance Wizard Forum

MetaLink doc 215527.1 recommends using the Maintenance Wizard to upgrade from 11i to R12.
The Maintenance Wizard is extolled elsewhere in this Forum to replace the Upgrade Spreadsheet.
And it is referenced a couple times in the 11i forum.
But that's not much press considering Oracle's description below.
Also, all the Maintenance Wizard MetaLink docs below reference a Maintenance Wizard forum.
The forum contains excellent feedback including how to use Maintenance Wizard within a firewall.
    LCM: Maintenance Wizard
But the Maintenance Wizard forum was Archived ~two weeks ago.
Some clarification would sure be useful.
What I'm actually trying to confirm is exactly what OAS or iAS or OC4J to use with it.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
    From 215527.1:
Oracle Support provides Maintenance Wizard to guide you through the upgrade of Oracle Applications technology stack and products from Release 11i versions to Release 12. It draws on instructions from numerous manuals and other documentation to provide you with a complete picture of the activities required for an upgrade.
Maintenance Wizard helps you to reduce upgrade tasks by dynamically filtering the necessary steps based on criteria it obtains from your Applications environment. The resulting report is a set of step-by-step instructions of exactly what you need to do to complete your specific upgrade, including any critical patches that your system may require. It can also automatically execute many of the tasks for you, so as to reduce the possibility of errors or accidental omission of vital tasks.

PS - To answer Tom's imbedded question (What I'm actually trying to confirm is exactly what OAS or iAS or OC4J to use with it.), please look at the Installation Guide (note 329476.1). In step 2 of the prerequisites, it states:
Maintenance Wizard version 2.x requires Oracle RDBMS 10g (10.2.0) with 10g iAS (10.1.3).
Hope this is what you needed, Tom....

  • Maintenance Wizard - Upgrading 11i database from 9206 to 10203.

We are utilizing the maintenance wizard to help map out our plan for upgrading an 11i EBusiness Suite database from 9206 to 10203. The 10203 software was installed in a new oracle home. I have the following questions:
1.) At what point does the maintenance wizard have you generate the appsutil directory under the new 10203 oracle home?
2.) After "Perform Database upgrade steps" the section "Perform Post Database Upgrade Steps" requires the environment file to exist in the new ORACLE_HOME. However, it does not exist because the appsutil directory does not exist and autoconfig has not been run to lay down the directory structure. Should the environment file be copied from the old Oracle Home and manually modified at this point?

I should add another question related to this subject:
Could anybody explain how is MW taking care of the Database upgrade from 9206 to 10203 ? For me i see this step in MW just as a step which must be done manually. Is that correct ?
    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Maintenance Wizard install

I would normally post this to the Maintenance Wizard forum, but it appears to still be inadvertantly archived.
In the Maintenance Wizard Install Instructions (329476.1), Step 1. a. ii. h. says: Verify that $HOME does not have execute permissions for group and others. The next line is the command: chmod go-w $HOME which revokes write permission from group and others.
Two questions: 1.Is it only write permission which should be revoked, because group execute may be desired so applmgr and oracle can read each others directory trees to facilitate co-managing Apps?; and 2. Can Maintenance Wizard be used on a single node Express/Vision configuration, and if so, and if the Express/Vision Apps instance is installed by a single oraapps user, would it be best to create a separate oracle user on that same node to install and run Maintenance Wizard?
I will probably have questions about how the port configuration will play with Apps on a single box, and if there will be a ports.ini to identify the OAS Apache port in Post Install Step 5, and about Administration Instance settings and Cluster Topology, but hopefully the Maintenance Wizard forum will be back online by the time I get there.
Thanks in advance. I hope for another of the excellent answers which characterize the Maintenance Wizard forum.

Due to the Maintenance Wizard forum being unavailable at the time, this question was answered via email. The answer was something to the effect of:
1 - It is write permission that should be revoked - note has been corrected.
2 - Yes, it should work fine. The MW can be installed on the same or a different box from the Apps, and it can be owned by the same or different UNIX account. I often recommend using a different owner, just to keep things easier to distinguish.
The MW Forum is now back up, so please post future questions there! Thanks!

  • MAINTENANCE WIZARD USERS MUST DOWNLOAD PATCHES MANUALLY UNTIL RELEASE 2.18

Due to a recent change in security policy Maintenance Wizard is unable to download patches automatically from within the tool. This issue is being worked and should be resolved very soon.
Until this download issue is resolved, customers will need to download patches manually and stage them into the patch directory defined by the environment variable EOF_PATCH_TOP for the Maintenance Wizard login.
This issue effects all releases of Maintenance Wizard to 2.17
Please feel free to post any questions you may have on this issue here.

All pre-req steps / patches should be defined as steps in the Maintenance Wizard tool. The only manual part should be downloading the patch which is normally done in the setup phase of the step. If you are coming across pre-requiste steps that are not defined in the Maintenance Wizard tool, please update this thread with them so can discuss.
NOTE: Any step that does not have a RUN button within it has been defined as a manual step that you must execute manually outside the Maintenance Wizard tool and then mark the step as completed manually.

  • Is there a way to use the Maintenance Wizard with a .profile file...

    Good afternoon all...
In my environment we have the same applmgr account for multiple databases. The .profile delivers a menu that allows the user to pick which database they wish to work with, and then a script runs which changes the environment specific variables for the desired database.
In many environments I have worked in the .profile is used to setup environmental variables for the applmgr account.
In looking at the instructions for setting up Maintenance Wizard it says to ensure ssh or rsh access to each of the applications servers using the applmgr account, and removing any .profile or .login scripts. This is not viable in my environment.
In asking on metalink I was told 1) just ignore the ssh setup stuff; and 2)the ssh setup is essential for maintenance wizard to work. Clearly conflicting advice.
How can I install/implement maintenance wizard without the loss of my current .profile configuration?
    Please advise,
    Adam

Oracle support's assessment was that that there is no way around the requirement to use ssh/remsh, I did a bit of further research into the issue. I developed a resolution for hpux as follows...
I used ssh rather than remsh for my shell and created a conditional statement in my .profile to handle the issue...
    # Set environment script if not secure shell -- 100311 MAC
    if [ -n "$SSH_CLIENT" ]
    then
    #Set up the shell environment
    set -u
    trap "echo 'logout'" 0
    umask 012
    else
    #Set up the shell environment
    set -u
    trap "echo 'logout'" 0
    umask 012
    # Set up Oracle environment
    . /usr/local/bin/envch
    fi
The conditional uses -n for not null, or in other words it is True if the variable is defined but false if it is not.
The variable $SSH_CLIENT is defined when logging in through ssh, but undefined when using another terminal method.
If it is an ssh shell I still setup other environment variables, but I have to move the "set -u" line to a result of the conditional as placing it before the conditional will make the -n test condition invalid. (It will cause references to an undefined variable to return an error rather than null). If it is not an ssh shell I again setup the variables but also call the interactive component of the login as it's own script.
I have tested this successfully and will now move on with the rest of the maintenance wizard installation.
    Thank you,
    Adam

  • Maintenance Wizard Installation on more than one box.

    Hi,
We are in the process of installing the Maintenance Wizard, to help us on our EBusiness upgrade. As a current, policy we avoid installing App server and database on the same machine (it also applies for MW installation).
The only part where something similar is mentioned is on the FAQ. But I'm not sure if the installation is supported having one box for the database and one box for the App server. Can anyone help me on this topic?
    Thank you.

I have a customer using the following navigation route through Maintenance Wizard:

Can anyone advise what could be the problem or how to get additonal errors to diagnose the problem.
