MAINTENANCE WIZARD USERS MUST DOWNLOAD PATCHES MANUALLY UNTIL RELEASE 2.18

Due to a recent change in security policy Maintenance Wizard is unable to download patches automatically from within the tool. This issue is being worked and should be resolved very soon.
Until this download issue is resolved, customers will need to download patches manually and stage them into the patch directory defined by the environment variable EOF_PATCH_TOP for the Maintenance Wizard login.
This issue effects all releases of Maintenance Wizard to 2.17
Please feel free to post any questions you may have on this issue here.

All pre-req steps / patches should be defined as steps in the Maintenance Wizard tool. The only manual part should be downloading the patch which is normally done in the setup phase of the step. If you are coming across pre-requiste steps that are not defined in the Maintenance Wizard tool, please update this thread with them so can discuss.
NOTE: Any step that does not have a RUN button within it has been defined as a manual step that you must execute manually outside the Maintenance Wizard tool and then mark the step as completed manually.

  • 11i to R12 upgrade and Maintenance Wizard and the Maintenance Wizard Forum

MetaLink doc 215527.1 recommends using the Maintenance Wizard to upgrade from 11i to R12.
The Maintenance Wizard is extolled elsewhere in this Forum to replace the Upgrade Spreadsheet.
And it is referenced a couple times in the 11i forum.
But that's not much press considering Oracle's description below.
Also, all the Maintenance Wizard MetaLink docs below reference a Maintenance Wizard forum.
The forum contains excellent feedback including how to use Maintenance Wizard within a firewall.
    LCM: Maintenance Wizard
But the Maintenance Wizard forum was Archived ~two weeks ago.
Some clarification would sure be useful.
What I'm actually trying to confirm is exactly what OAS or iAS or OC4J to use with it.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
    From 215527.1:
Oracle Support provides Maintenance Wizard to guide you through the upgrade of Oracle Applications technology stack and products from Release 11i versions to Release 12. It draws on instructions from numerous manuals and other documentation to provide you with a complete picture of the activities required for an upgrade.
Maintenance Wizard helps you to reduce upgrade tasks by dynamically filtering the necessary steps based on criteria it obtains from your Applications environment. The resulting report is a set of step-by-step instructions of exactly what you need to do to complete your specific upgrade, including any critical patches that your system may require. It can also automatically execute many of the tasks for you, so as to reduce the possibility of errors or accidental omission of vital tasks.

PS - To answer Tom's imbedded question (What I'm actually trying to confirm is exactly what OAS or iAS or OC4J to use with it.), please look at the Installation Guide (note 329476.1). In step 2 of the prerequisites, it states:
Maintenance Wizard version 2.x requires Oracle RDBMS 10g (10.2.0) with 10g iAS (10.1.3).

  • Using Maintenance Wizard for generic patching

    Hi,
Does anyone out there uses the Maintenance Wizard?
I want to use it to automate patching on several environments, and it seems that the tool is not very flexible. I am unable to create a empty project, It only creates projects with preseeded tasks. And I cant find where to add a patch to be applied automatically by the tool. It seems that the tool can only add scripts as custom steps.
    Regards,
    Luis

Bumping this thread to the top.
Anyone out there would like to use this tool for generic patching too?
Anyone knows of other oracle software that can manage patching on several environments, and control which patch was applied were? One software I knew did this was Kintana, the company was acquired by HP and it seems to no longer be available. Last time I looked Grid Control was still unable to manage Oracle Applications patching.

  • Regarding Oracle Maintenance Wizard.

    All,
I'm about to upgrade from R12.1.1 from 11i. Please let me know if anyone has done this using "Oracle Maintenance Wizard." and is it useful. I haven' used this before .
    Regards
    Rahul

    Hi Rahul,
I'm currently using MW for the first time to upgrade 11.5.10.2 to R12 and yes it's really useful in that the steps are all predefined for you and the patching is pretty much automated, you can record your timngs and add notes etc. However there are a few things to be aware of, and like any new tool it takes a little while to figure out how MW works, once you've got it setup right and know how it works then it's a really useful tool.
the key things I've come across are:
    - you need a DB to store the MW repository in
    - make sure you setup the ssh properly and test it as defined in the install guide - 329476.1
    - make sure you upgrade mw to the lastest version - 2.17 - I did the update manually and this took a bit of frigging around
    - unfortunately the user guide is out of date so the screenshots differ, plus I don't think there's enough info in the install guide
    - define your nodes and paths, you can redo these at any stage
    - check each upgrade step before hand and if you not using liveupdate then download each patch before hand
    - MW only upgrades to 12.1.1 so you'll need to apply further patches if you want to go to 12.1.3
    - get your functional people to use MW also as there's a whole bunch of functional steps
    - read all the other oracle docs associated with an upgrade..and as always there's heaps!
    good luck!

  • Maintenance Wizard vrs TUMS

In the R12.1.1 Upgrade Guide it mentions both TUMS and the Maintenance Wizard as means to pre-determine the upgrade steps specific for my environment.
TUMS outlines the steps I do NOT need to do whereas Maintenance Wizard gives a step by step outline of what is required in my environment.
Is TUMS complementary to the Maintenance Wizard or an alternative to it ? Which proves more useful ?
What's folks experience of the Maintenance Wizard rather than just going through the upgrade guide ?
    thanks,
    Jim

Looks like I need some help on the patch downloading in 2.18 as well. I ran the utiltity to make sure my MOS login was correct but the patch dowlonad is not working in the Prep for Upgrade/Create Merged patch for Rel 11i - Part 1. I've also tried downloading a patch by itself in the utilities but it won't work either. The errors reported don't tell me much but the log says to have to have the admin run the command manually. Dear all,
Can anybody guide how to download support packs or patches form service market place through solution manager. As the functionality has been restricted at market place.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi Swapnil,

Go manually to http://service.sap.com/patches and select all you need there and put them in your download basket.
Next start the MO and use the 4.0 system and step forward until you reach "confirm" - you will see all support packages your previously selected and you can confirm. After that you can cancel the maintenance task alltogether and download either directly from your download basked or use the Download Manager.
You need the MO task JUST for confirming them, to select them and put them in your Download basked, nothing is necessary.

  • Error in report builder wizard user interface

I am getting error 'REP-31954: Error in the Report Builder Chart Wizard user interface'.
The help subsystem states that I should make sure that the Chart Builder Wizard libraries are properly installed.
I am sure they are because all other wizards work fine, along with the Forms, Reports, etc.
I searched using Google and found two messages that indicate this is a bug in the program and not library installation related.
Does anyone know if this is indeed a bug that has not been resolved, or do I need to troubleshoot more on my end.
I re-linked Oracle graphics and checked the env variables, but nothing gets the Chart Wizard to work within Reports or Forms.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hi.
I am running developer 6i on my home machine (with Oracle 8i, v 8.1.7). I am at work at the moment, and I can't recall what the Reports version is. The same error occurs with Forms.
The filename that I downloaded is called 'd2k6irelease2.tar'.
I downloaded the version that is currently on Oracle OTN's download site, so I presume that is the latest version that should contain all patches, updates, etc.
    Thank you for responding!

    Hi Adrian,
Got the following when grepped through the web. You can give a try and see whether it works :
    1) Open the report in the Builder. In the properties for the graphic image, change to the proper UNIX path. Also, ensure the .ogd file which is referenced is also placed in the proper UNIX directory, so that the new path is reflected accurately.
    2) Ensure that your environment have the ORACLE_HOME set properly and then try re-linking with Graphics.
    Thanks,
    Vinod

  • Maintenance Wizard - Upgrading 11i database from 9206 to 10203.

We are utilizing the maintenance wizard to help map out our plan for upgrading an 11i EBusiness Suite database from 9206 to 10203. The 10203 software was installed in a new oracle home. I have the following questions:
1.) At what point does the maintenance wizard have you generate the appsutil directory under the new 10203 oracle home?
2.) After "Perform Database upgrade steps" the section "Perform Post Database Upgrade Steps" requires the environment file to exist in the new ORACLE_HOME. However, it does not exist because the appsutil directory does not exist and autoconfig has not been run to lay down the directory structure. Should the environment file be copied from the old Oracle Home and manually modified at this point?

I should add another question related to this subject:
Could anybody explain how is MW taking care of the Database upgrade from 9206 to 10203 ? For me i see this step in MW just as a step which must be done manually. Is that correct ?
    Thanks,
    Paul
