Major 160GB ipod problems, no music, no files, no recognition, no resetting

been using my ipod for a while but yesterday, I opened the ipod to find it says there is no music on the ipod, but on the setting section in the ipod it says, that I do actually have space used on my ipod.
I tried to connect the ipod to the computer, but nothing shows on itunes. I opened "My Computer" it says that there is a removable disk, but nothing shows up when I try to click it (given that I have some files and documents stored in it)
when I connect the ipod to the computer, the ipod shows the "Connected" screen, but when I eject the ipod, it goes to the silver apple screen for a long while, and the ipod does a weird clicking noise.
tried doing the 5R's but cant because the itunes doesnt even recognise the ipod.
PLEASE any help would be greatly apprecated, I'm not very technical when it comes to electronics, but this is the best amount of detail I can give for now. if there is any more info needed, I'll gladly give

I a really similar issue a while back, where I turned on my iPod only to find everything gone, but it would still say that something is on it. However, my iTunes would still recognize it, although no music or movies would appear in the the menu. I tried resetting, but no luck. I ultimately had to end up factory resetting it to fix it. Since then, I've had no problems.
Since the case is that not even your iTunes recognizes it, I would take it in to the Genius bar and see what they can do. Hopefully they don't give you their default answer of "it's an internal/logic board problem," which means you're basically stuck and you'll have to pay them to fix it or buy a new iPod.

  • 160gb iPod Problem

I recently bought a 160gb iPod. It has nothing on it yet but apparently I've got only got 111gb left.
    Anyone know the problem?

So, iTunes isn't recognizing it? My first thought is to make sure iTunes is up to date, so, from your Help menu in iTunes choose Check for Updates.
And what sort of noise is the iPod making?

  • Major ipod problem, glitched music. help.

Ok, so here goes the story. 2nd gen ipod, 16GB. this just randomly happened- around a week after i homeshared with my friend and bought some new music.
THERE ARE NO DUPLICATES IN MY LIBRARY CONCERNING THIS MUSIC!!!
Around a week ago, I bought the album Moulin Rouge. I bought it with a gift card on he computer, then re-bought it on my ipod (a mistake, I know) It was completely normal, played normally, no problems. Far before this, I got a song from inception off of itunes, (we built our own world). It was also normal, save the fact that there was a sound at the beginning of it every time it played- like a clap. It started doubling before the moulin did.
The album and song are now behaving oddly. They are doubling themselves up. Like, when I have the Moulin album checked, two of each song pop up in the album. then when I uncheck the album, there still remains the whole album; so it seems there are two copies, one glitched stuck on my ipod, one normal from itunes. Moulin also has very weird ******** album art; the art is like a genius mix cover with another random album. Both of these symptoms are the same with the inception song.
And also, sometimes the moulin picks up random cover art from completely different albums, cover art I have added to songs I have gotten from limewire (NONE OF THE LIMEWIRE SONGS I GOT ARE GLITCHED OR BEHAVING ODDLY)
So, I have reset my iPod several times. I plugged my ipod in, wen under the music tab, and unchecked the 'Sync Music' box. So now the only music that is on my ipod is the weird, glitch music that doesn't seem to be originating from my iTunes library.
I don't even know if restoring my ipod will work with this. I have absolutely no ay of getting this music off my ipod. The 'regular' versions of the song + album are behaving fine, I can still listen to everything on my library.
Please help me. I need to get this iPod through a month or so more, and it just really annoys me to have something like this. I know I can simply create playlists and listen from there, but I kinda need to have my music organized.

You need to repost this in the iTunes discussion group.

  • Another Ipod Problem - Purchased Music wont play

I just recently recieved my fifth repaired Ipod in a year and a halves time, and now I have another problem. I loaded all of my iTunes songs to my iPod, but all of my purchased music will not play, it just skips over them to the next song. What is going on?
Thank you for your help in advance.

Could you share this again? I have looked for answers to this issue in multiple threads and have yet to find anything that works. All the latest stuff, resync, etc. and the purchased music still won't play after some interval of time. It plays fine for a while then it just skips through the titles.
Is it a time thing or something you can set?
    Thx for any insight.

  • MAJOR DVD-IPOD PROBLEMS!!!!!PLEASE HELP

Hi there, i got a 5th generation ipod for christmas but im having problems getting my own dvds onto the computer to convert, i have a program 2 rip dvds but when i try 2 convert them in quicktime 7 pro, it dusnt work, any help would b appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ipod owner in distress

QT Pro is not a ripper/extractor either. It is a file-to-file conversion application with limited editing capabilities. You need a dedicated rip/extraction program to prepare the data for other applications to work on or one that performs rip, extraction, strip, and conversion in one seamless process. The latter tend to be commercial in nature and have to be purchased but don't suffer the problems of many of the "freebies" you will find avaiable on the internet. Try downloading one of the free trial programs if you want to see the difference. Here is one example: http://www.divmm.com

  • New ipod problem download music from itune it keeps closing the progarm

I have new iPod shuffle. Was trying to downloan music from itune. But at first it looks like it was downloaded. but there was no much music. Then tried again and but itune programe will shut down immediatly when I try to down load. I need help, Thans.
    Tsion.

Does it do this with another set of earbuds? If not, does this happen with songs you ripped from CD or downloaded from elsewhere?
Since it's still under a year old, it's covered under Apple's 1 year warranty against manufacturing defects. Show a Genius at the Genius Bar what you are experiencing and they'll likely swap it out for you at no cost.

  • IPod Touch dumps music library when I download content from mobile iTunes

I have had this problem twice now, and both times when I'm away from home and can't get to my computer to sync up easily and fix the problem.
    - I am downloading podcasts from the mobile version of iTunes using the Touch's built in wifi
    - I open the "Music" app to listen to my tasty new podcasts
    - The splash screen that says iTunes is updating the library - this may take a few minutes - appears
    - soon, presta! I have none of my original music available, just the crappy single of the week I got for free from iTunes. I begin to hate this undiscovered band for seemingly poor reasons.
now, every time I go back to my computer at home to sync it up, it restores the playlists and content I thought I had lost, so my best guess is that mobile iTunes is screwing with my iPod Touch's music library file, because for all I can tell the files still seem to be there. Just un-findable.
I'm not jailbroken, and don't fancy it, unless someone thinks it might help me get my music and podcasts back before I can return home... a week is a long time to go without my stuff.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated! thanks,
    Brock

I have the same problem with mine, but i dont really pay attention to when ive bought songs of mobile itunes. Sometimes when i turn my ipod on its says updating library but then states no content, so i have to go to the computer to re-sync my songs. Ive looked all over but cant find any answers to stop this, have you had any luck yet?

  • Major Stopping/Skipping Problem With 30G Photo iPod

Hi all. I'll try to give the short version of my major iPod problems I've been having. It's been going on for a couple months straight now.
The first thing that started happening was, in the middle of playing a song, it would freeze, and then start skipping through of the rest of the tracks on that playlist or album. It would sometimes make a "whirring" sound when going from track to track without playing them. Sometimes, this process would start instead when trying to manually skip from one song to another...it would just start to skip through tracks. It had to be restarted a bunch of times, and none of these problems had been present in the 2 or so years previous I owned it. Eventually, it showed an "unhappy face" and nothing else could be done.
I brought it back to Best Buy, where I bought it, as it was still under warranty for another year. They sent the iPod back to Apple for repairs. The "repaired" iPod was back in my hands in about 3 weeks, and for a week or so worked perfectly. Then, it started having the skipping tracks problem again.
Not long there after, it started having more serious problems. It needed to be resetted very frequently. The skipping of tracks, the first warning sign, became the least of it's problems. It needed to be completely restored. The first time it was restored, it got through about 600-1000 of the 5800 songs on it, then stopped and said the restore failed.
Other times, it showed the dreaded "1418" message. Other times it had messages like these:
Attempting to copy to the disk “Andrew’s iPod” failed. An unknown error occurred (-69).
The iPod “Andrew’s iPod” cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to.
The iPod “Andrew’s iPod” cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found.
Eventually, it synced correctly. But the problems continued, and over the course of two weeks it had to be completely restored about 3 or 4 times, although it would then work again perfectly fine for, like, an hour.
So I took it back in again. This time, Best Buy told me that I would be quickly sent back a "Refurb" unit (a refurbished iPod that someone else had returned, I guess and had then been fixed or what have you.)
After a few days, I got the refurb unit. It's not my old iPod, I could tell just by looking at the front and back. And, for about 2 weeks, it worked absolutely perfectly. It reloaded like a charm, and played completely fine. The battery life seemed a little iffy, but nothing crazy.
Then, yesterday, this iPod that *is not* the same iPod I returned as far as I can tell, is having THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. Yesterday, in the middle of a song that I had played many times before, it froze, stopped, and started skipping songs. It needed to be reset, what else is new. So, I did, and got the "unhappy face" with the address of iPod support once again.
I'm really confused. What is the problem here? When I had my first unit returned, I figured perhaps the problem hadn't been addressed. But this doesn't even appear to be the same unit.
Could there be a problem with iTunes 7.1.1 with my iPod? For what it's worth, I followed the advice found online to try to find corrupted music files, and can't find any. When it had restore problems with the last unit, I checked to see if it was stopping on any particular song, and it was different every time. Even so, I erased those songs just in case.
Also, when it freezes and stops now (and with the old unit, for that matter) it was never the same song. And it was almost always on a song that had already been played many times, perfectly fine, many times before, and recently to boot. I've also played through almost every song through iTunes over the last couple months to check for any obvious problems, and never found any.
With over 5750 songs on my iPod, I don't know how I can possibly know with complete certainty if there's anything with a problem amongst them, although completely erasing my iPod library that until 2 months ago never had a problem is kind of a worst case scenario.
What on earth could be wrong with my iPod? It's currently plugged into an outlet, vacillating between the Apple symbol and the "unhappy face." Anyone have ANY ideas?!?!?

I wondered what a 'photo' iPod was. This forum is for the 5G video. I don't know how long an iPod is supposed to last. I think it is based on use and how roughly it is handled if it is a hard-drive model.
Maybe time for a new machine?

  • IPod sync doesn't transfer files--but iPod is now missing all music/videos

I added some older songs to my library last night and this morning-they had been on a previous hard drive which I finally linked up with and imported them (just the music, nothing else).
I am using a 30gb 5.5 iPod, Windows XP pro SP2, Itunes 7.3 and my itunes and all files are kept on an external HDD. Never had a problem till now.
I imported the desired songs, and I can see them in my itunes library. So I connected my ipod to charge and to sync, and it said it was done syncing so I checked. And before I even checked, the bar that details ipod capacity had me worried-it went from 10gig free, to 27 gig free...
So I checked my ipod, and all music is gone. All movies and tv shows are gone. Only thing that survived was apparently my photos.
I did a restore of the ipod (since it was pretty much empty now anyways), and then re-synced when it was done, and the sync is completed way too fast, considering theres almost 20 gig waiting for it, and of course, nothing is going over.
I did, before it crapped out, go into movies/tv and select what I did and didnt want to sync, but I have since then gone back to the defaults, and that isn't helping.
Any ideas? Right now I have all my files usable in iTunes, but an empty iPod

Someone may have a better explanation, but I decided to remove the iPod from my system via my computer, rebooted, reconnected and now it's synching
though, oddly enough, 100 Beatles songs that I ripped from my CDs using iTunes, can't be located so I have to rip again I guess.....wasnt a problem before because the songs were on the iPod.
    ah well

  • My ipod somehow converted my video files to music files...

Ok, I know it sounds strange, but it happened. I buy weekly episodes of South Park and The Office from iTunes so I have a video to watch while on break at work. The other day I went to watch Season 3 of The Office and the episodes have all vanished!
I looked around the iPod and found that all the videos on my iPod are missing, not just The Office. However, after looking a little more, I found all these videos in the MUSIC section of the iPod!!!
The videos no longer play with an image, they just play the sound, if even that. I'm on a new computer (I sold the old one) and don't have access to any of these files, so I can't simply reload them onto the iPod.
My question is this: since my iPod randomly converted my video files to audio files on the iPod itself, is it possible to edit them back to video?
I have two other friends who've had this same exact problem. If I can't fix it, should iTunes be responsible for replacing my missing videos? Its obviously a hardware glitch.

Your ipod did not convert them to audio files. That's impossible. If you no longer have the files on your computer, you will have to copy all your music and videos from the ipod, to your new computer and into itunes. Once you have done this, you will then be able to restore your ipod and resync all your files to the ipod.
I assume you have all ready tried restarting your ipod?

  • Problem getting music from Ipod to Itunes

I have a 2nd Gen Nano and recently had to reinstall my operating system (Windows XP), which required me to back up my music. I had no external HD at the time and not enough discs so I sync'd my Ipod and stored all 812 songs to my 4GB Ipod. Now that I am back up and running, I have re-installed everything and again downloaded Itunes and authorized my computer (I only have one authorization left apparently, any way to fix this as well?).
The problem is that only songs I purchased from Itunes are in my Library. How do I get the 812 songs on my Ipod to my Itunes Library? I thought I could do it with a sync, but a window popped up saying that it would delete my current Library. I know little to nothing about computers so any plain speak will help. Thanks.

How do I get the 812 songs on my Ipod to my Itunes Library?
Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library. There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump and iPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.
    More information is contained here.
Copying content from your iPod to your computer - The Definitive Guide.
(I only have one authorization left apparently, any way to fix this as well?).
You can't do anything about that until you hit the maximum of 5 authorizations.
    From the iTunes authorization article:
+Click iTunes Store in the menu on the left side of iTunes.+
+If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.+
+Click the Account button again (your ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.+
+In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.+
+Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than 5 authorized computers, or if you have used this option within the last 12 months.+

  • Yesterday i made some purchases in itunestore. the download went well. till the synch of itunes with ipod. some of the downloaded music did noch synchronize. the message was: the ipod does not support the file format (mp4). strange, right?

Yesterday 20 november I have made some purchases in Ittunestore. The download went well. Till the synch of itunes with ipod. Some of the downloaded music did noch synchronize. The message was: the ipod does not support the file format (mp4). Strange, right? All the rest of downloaded music items has been synchronised without any problems. What may be the problem?

For music files purchased via the iTunes Store, Apple has used the following file extensions -
.m4a unprotected AAC format music files
.m4p protected AAC format music files
    .m4b protected Audio Books
.m4r unprotected ringtones in AAC format
As you can see Apple have never used .mp4 for music files via the iTunes Store.
For videos Apple use .m4v and these are in H.264 format.
You could try changing the file extension to .m4a, first then see if it plays on your computer and then try re-synching it.

  • 160GB iPod music dissapeared

    Hi guys,
I have a black 160GB iPod and whenever I leave the iPod plugged into my iMac to charge or sync, I have found that my music is gone from the device when I unplug it.
I eject the device from iTunes.
The iPod shows that I have no music on it, but shows that it has 154GB of "Other" data on the device.
    Ant help?
This iPod has already been replaced about 3 weeks ago and I have re synced the iPod with a fresh reinstall of it OS
Has anybody found a solution to this?

You do not need to restore the iPod (in my case, a 160GB Classic with at least 80GB of music on it) to get your music "visible" again.
    1) If you can read your iPod in Windows Explorer, make sure you can see "hidden" files and folders and locate the folder Whatever your iPod drive designation:\\iPod_control\iTunes. Close iTunes if its open.
    2) Locate two files: "itunesDB" and "itunesDB.old_mlpmp". The 1st file is your current (and now corrupt) library database file, which iTunes needs to refer to to know whats on your iPod; whilst the 2nd is a backup of the this database that hopefully is not corrupt (because it should be a backup of your last successful sync).
    3) Rename "itunesDB" to "itunesDB.old" (or you could even delete it I think) and then rename "itunesDB.old_mlpmp" to "itunesDB". This effectively restores the backup of the library that you had as a backup but didn't even know about!
    4) Open iTunes. It should now read your iPod and its contents without telling you that you HAVE to restore.
Note: if you cannot find "itunesDB.old_mlpmp" then this solution won't work.
    try that

How do I get my iPod classic 160GB to upload my music to iTunes in my new Mac Mini OS X 10.9.5?

That would be via home sharing.
Make sureĀ  it's enabled in iTunes (file - home sharing) and Apple TV (settings - computers)
You would then access on Apple TV using the computer icon. Your computer would need to be on and running itunes

    Hi Craig
Unfortunately, in your case, there isn't really a way to separate them as far as I can think.
You could try restoring from a backup, and choosing an older backup perhaps
