Major 30G Photo Skipping/Stopping/Reset Problems

*I originally posted this under "5th Generation" which I think was a mistake, so I'm posting it here.*
Hi all. I'll try to give the short version of my major iPod problems I've been having. It's been going on for a couple months straight now.
The first thing that started happening was, in the middle of playing a song, it would freeze, and then start skipping through of the rest of the tracks on that playlist or album. It would sometimes make a "whirring" sound when going from track to track without playing them. Sometimes, this process would start instead when trying to manually skip from one song to another...it would just start to skip through tracks. It had to be restarted a bunch of times, and none of these problems had been present in the 2 or so years previous I owned it. Eventually, it showed an "unhappy face" and nothing else could be done.
I brought it back to Best Buy, where I bought it, as it was still under warranty for another year. They sent the iPod back to Apple for repairs. The "repaired" iPod was back in my hands in about 3 weeks, and for a week or so worked perfectly. Then, it started having the skipping tracks problem again.
Not long there after, it started having more serious problems. It needed to be resetted very frequently. The skipping of tracks, the first warning sign, became the least of it's problems. It needed to be completely restored. The first time it was restored, it got through about 600-1000 of the 5800 songs on it, then stopped and said the restore failed.
Other times, it showed the dreaded "1418" message. Other times it had messages like these:
Attempting to copy to the disk “Andrew’s iPod” failed. An unknown error occurred (-69).
The iPod “Andrew’s iPod” cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to.
The iPod “Andrew’s iPod” cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found.
Eventually, it synced correctly. But the problems continued, and over the course of two weeks it had to be completely restored about 3 or 4 times, although it would then work again perfectly fine for, like, an hour.
So I took it back in again. This time, Best Buy told me that I would be quickly sent back a "Refurb" unit (a refurbished iPod that someone else had returned, I guess and had then been fixed or what have you.)
After a few days, I got the refurb unit. It's not my old iPod, I could tell just by looking at the front and back. And, for about 2 weeks, it worked absolutely perfectly. It reloaded like a charm, and played completely fine. The battery life seemed a little iffy, but nothing crazy.
Then, yesterday, this iPod that *is not* the same iPod I returned as far as I can tell, is having THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. Yesterday, in the middle of a song that I had played many times before, it froze, stopped, and started skipping songs. It needed to be reset, what else is new. So, I did, and got the "unhappy face" with the address of iPod support once again.
I'm really confused. What is the problem here? When I had my first unit returned, I figured perhaps the problem hadn't been addressed. But this doesn't even appear to be the same unit.
Could there be a problem with iTunes 7.1.1 with my iPod? For what it's worth, I followed the advice found online to try to find corrupted music files, and can't find any. When it had restore problems with the last unit, I checked to see if it was stopping on any particular song, and it was different every time. Even so, I erased those songs just in case.
Also, when it freezes and stops now (and with the old unit, for that matter) it was never the same song. And it was almost always on a song that had already been played many times, perfectly fine, many times before, and recently to boot. I've also played through almost every song through iTunes over the last couple months to check for any obvious problems, and never found any.
With over 5750 songs on my iPod, I don't know how I can possibly know with complete certainty if there's anything with a problem amongst them, although completely erasing my iPod library that until 2 months ago never had a problem is kind of a worst case scenario.
What on earth could be wrong with my iPod? It's currently plugged into an outlet, vacillating between the Apple symbol and the "unhappy face." Anyone have ANY ideas?!?!?

Okay, my last word on the subject:
Please do not take this as any sort of real advice or a long term solution, as it almost certainly will not be based on my past experiences with this thing.
But, as I was preparing to go to bed and head out the door to Best Buy tomorrow, so that they could for the 3rd time in a month and a half "fix" my iPod or give me a "refurb unit," I tried one last terrible thing.
As I said above, it vacillated between the apple icon (unlit) and the sad-faced iPod when plugged into the wall, and the old fashioned lightning/battery when plugged into the computer. The computer didn't recognize it, iPod didn't recognizing it. Resetting did nothing. Restore was impossible. The original problem was, as had kept happening throughout this process, it would play some random song and then stop and start skipping through tracks, or it would simply skip through tracks when I tried to move manually from one song to another.
I'm so fed up with this thing after having it "fixed" several times in the last month, and even sort-of replaced, I did the thing some people suggest for you to do as a last resort.
I picked up the iPod, turned it over in my hand so the metallic side was facing out, and gave it one good, hard slap.
And now it works. I plugged it back into the computer, and it was fine and raring to go. All my files were there like nothing ever happened. It's playing right now.
What in the world is wrong with this thing when a SLAP "fixes" it, and absolutely nothing else will.
I don't get this thing, I tell ya.

While trying to update my phone one photo is stopping the whole process and I've gone through all the online suggestions (check for updates, etc)

Verizon was having a problem on their end, perhaps a server down for some repair or updating. However you were already aware that there was an on-going problem in your own posting and you decided to continue on.I can understand you wanting this done and trying to save the $15.00 fee. However I would have waited a bit longer until the Verizon issue had been corrected. Yes it is frustrating but again you know in advance of a problem , I can understand that this is most upsetting for you but never try to perform any change when a problem is there and I also do not like to do business on a weekend with no live tech support available. I'm sure this will all work out for you if given some time. Sorry.
So I have been trying to change my phone number for a few days now and every single time I get this error message, before i even start, "The activity you are trying to perform is currently unavailable. Please try again later."

• Zen MX Skip/Stop Problems

I just bought a 'like new" Zen MX from amazon.com and today was the first day I've used it; every four or fi've songs it will skip/stop for a split second every couple seconds and then play like normal. My question to anyone who can answer this is: does this mean it's gonna die on me pretty soon or is this just an annoying but normal bug? Because I am obviously not covered by Creative Labs since I bought this from an amazon merchant so if this mp3 player is going to die in three months I really doubt that I could get my money back from the merchant after that long. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi,
You might want to perform a Clean Up, Reboot to see if it resolves the Skip/Stop problem.
To enter recovery mode:

Turn off your player.<

Press and hold the power button to turn on the player.<

When the Creative logo appears , press and hold the back button until the Recovery Mode screen appears. Three menu items are shown:Clean Up[/b], Format All[/b], and Reboot[/b].<

• I have a iPhone 4 that will not stop resetting itself on its own this is my fourth phone and the second to have this problem

I have a iPhone 4 that will not stop resetting itself on its own this is my fourth phone and the second to have this problem. I have AT&T so I need to post here instead of actually being held to get help on a Sunday night. this is a extremely frustrating situation as I count on this phone for business.

Are you restoring your phone from a previous back up? If so there could be a problem within the back up. Try restoring your phone as a new device and then manualy reinstall all apps.

• ICloud photo sync stops after 30% of my collection (30000 pics)

With the latest update of Yosemite I finally switched to Foto iso iPhoto.
I switched on the iCloud option and expanded my storage to 200gig.
I have a collection of 30000 pics (yeah, I need to clean up )
It started syncing ok (although slow) but now it completely stopped at 10400 pics).
New pics taken by the iPhone end up in iCloud (I see them fine on the iPad or AppleTV) but don't sync with Foto (of Photo).
Advice anyone?

I have the same problem, my library has 52000 photos, but stopped uploading to iCloud with 37384 pictures to go... very annoying!
Is a way to "reset" Photos so it starts uploading again?
I have plenty of free iCloud storage left, so that isn't the problem.
BTW, Photos (agent) has been using all my computer's resources for three days now, I find it very that irritating Photos has no user control about its large memory, disk space and CPU usage... If it keeps doing it I will have to stop using it and switch to other photo management software that lets me decide what I want to do with my computer

After updating to iOS 5.1. Photo stream stopped working on my iPad 2. I tried turning it off and on.reset the iPad too. I didnt do anything else to make photo stream stop working.I tried closing the camera app before trying to access photo stream and waited to see if it would upload to iCloud and nothing. Photo stream works fine on my iPhone 4. Advice and help please?

Having the same problem on my wife's iPad2. All settings are correct. If I take a pic with the iPad, it shows up on her iPhone4 in Photo Stream. When I access Photo Stream on her iPad2, there is nothing there. Here's the really weird part: when I add a photo to iMessage on her iPad2, it lets me select Photo Stream and the photos are there!!! Any fixes besides a restore???

I recently got the iPhone 5s and I transferred all of my music, pictures, etc. over from my iPhone 5. My music was playing fine the day I got it (2 days ago) and now my music skips, stops in the middle of the songs, or just stops playing and exits. It was just working and now it wont. What is wrong? What can I do?

Not sure if this will help but a reset is the first thing to try. To reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

• Multi-room DVR 30 second skip stops working

When I watch DVR'd shows on my non-DVR box, the 30 second skip stops working in the middle of shows. This does not happen on the DVR box itself. Verizon has already sent a replacement box and same problem. When it happens, the display looks like there is no time left in the recording. When I hit stop and the resume play, it jumps about 10 minutes back in the show but shows the correct time remaining. It is particularly annoying when watch longer shows because I have to stop and go back in several times. Clearly replacing the hardware didn't fix it. It seems to me to be a software issue. Am I alone or is this a common issue? Thanks.

Are you trying to watch a program that is currently recording?
For example, let a show record for 20 minutes so you can skip the commercials, then start watching from the beginning?
Because if so, Verizon's software will act exactly like you're describing. It fails on this use-case scenario -- after 20 minutes have elapsed (your initial recording time), you will be unable to fast forward and your recording time will read 0:00. You have to Stop playing the recording, and Resume.
This annoys me to no end that (lowly) RCN can get this right, and Verizon can't.

• After updating to iOS 5, the Photo album stopped working.

After updating to iOS v5, my iphone 4S's built-in Photo app stopped working.
The Camera takes a photo, but the photo disappears from the camera roll and shows no photos in the photoalbum.
My iPhone used to take photos so, I don't believe it is a hardware issue.
Is anyone having the same problem?
Would there be a update of the v5 to solve this issue?

I figured it out.
In my case, I just needed to restore my phone to the factory setting.
My iphone = iphone 4 running iOS v5
My computer = iMac
Software didn't work = preinstalled "Photos" app
Symptoms = after I take a photo, the image thumbnail of the camera roll shows the image, but images are found neither in the camera roll nor in the albums of the "Photos".
Solution procedure:
connect the iphone to iMac
in the Summary window of the devices, click "Restore"
choose not to save the backup file
choose to restore the iphone as a "NEW" device instead of choosing a backup files*
follow the rest of instructions.
It helped and now I can view my photos in the photo album.
* However, I accidentary re-restored it with a saved backup file and the "Photos" application stopped working again. I repeated the resotre procedure avoiding the accidental restoration to a backup file.
The camera and the photos were working before iOS v5 update, and it is now working again. So, it is obviously not the hardware issue. It seems that iOS v5 and the Photos are having compatibility issue Apple should look into this issue.

• TextEdit, Calca, Numbers photos syncing stop to work

Hello,
Since Mavericks have been having some obscure, difficult to formulate problem. In the nutshell, some programs (TextEdit, Calca to name the few) cease to work under unknown circumstances (nothing magical, I just missed the moment when it happens).
A couple of times photos synchronization (with iOS devices using iTunes) stopped to work. Synchronizing them took so much time that I never had patience to wait till it ends (waited an hour or more). Guess it somehow may be connected to the former problem.
I have the strong inkling that it happens after some new app is installed. When I installed Team Viewer a month ago or so the photo sync stopped to work also. After rebooting everything returned to normal.
Week ago installed Aquamacs, sync wasn't affected, however TextEdit was.
After restarting the system everything returns to normal.
How TextEdit doesn't work (the same applies to other programs):
Icon of the App jumps for a while. Menu of the App appears. No windows of TextEdit, menu irresponsive. Terminating only by 'Force Quit'. See no relevant records in the log (Console). If the records in log somehow connected to the TextEdit, the relation is too distant for me to recognize it.
Checked the disk with Disk Utility, nothing serious,
"The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK.",
some messages of permissions like
"Permissions differ on “Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Safari.help/Contents/Resources/"
Googling and analyzing for some months. Many quite contradicting suggestions, like reinstalling the OS or just checking the /Library permissions. None of them looked to me very reliable to rush doing it specially killing the OS.
Seems the bug (?) affects the app which uses iCloud.
Presently:
Mac OS X 10.9.2
MacBook Pro 13'
Careful usage, no suspicious software, mainly Apple made, except few like Aquamacs, VLC, TextMate, etc.
TextEdit Version 1.9 (310)

VladimirSch
One by one or a few at a time the permssions conflicts may not matter. Mine were quite large in number having accumulated over 4 OSX upgrades. There was also a problem with a "pointers / blocks" reference.
In my case the situtation led to a condition that manifest itself as if it were running out of disk space in a partition while Get-Info reported there was plenty of space unused. In adition some of the apps became quite slow and displayed erratically.
There may have been some other aspect as when the "Genius Bar" guy booted up my MBP with his network version of Mavericks he then ran a special version of Dick Utility that "fixed" the disk in about 1/2 hour wall clock.
I'm glad I live close to an Apple store.

• Elements 12 Photo Editor stopped working

I recently purchased a brand new HP with Windows 8. I downloaded PS Elements 12 from Amazon last month and a few weeks in, Photoshop Editor stoped working. I ended up uninstalling it then reinstalling and it worked great for a few days before the Editor crashed again. This pops up: "Photoshop Elements 12 Editor has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I am beyond frustrated. I am trying to get a photography career going and I don't have time for this. I'm not very computer savvy when it comes to issues like this and honestly have no idea what to do. I obviously can't keep uninstalling it. I also don't know if this is a Windows issue or Adobe. Please help!

I'm replying from my e-mail so I hope this works! Couldn't figure out how to reply on the Adobe discussion board. But I checked the updates and it said they're all up-to-date and to answer your questions, yes it crashes every time I try to open a photo. If I'm in the organizer then right click a photo to open in Editor that notification pops up. So yes, the organizer works just not the Editor.
As far as the admin rights, I right-clicked the icon and ran to do so if that's what you're talking about. Like I mentioned before, I have NO idea what the heck is wrong. If it's Windows or Adobe...all my friends say I should've gone with an iMac. Haha. Sigh

• 9.4.1 Shared Photo Streams - my Photo Stream stopped functioning altogether

I've been experiencing unexplained problems with the Shared Photo Stream feature. After creating a new shared photo stream and adding a couple of photos to it iPhoto shows the number of shared pictures as 0. I eventually managed to get an album shared with iPhoto 9.4 a couple of weeks ago after creating and deleting a shared stream a couple of times. Today I decided to created another shared stream using iPhoto 9.4.1, left the 'Share with' empty, enabled public sharing, added a couple of photos and voilà, same problem. Only worse this time around. I'm getting the following messages in the Console:

I tried disabling and reenabling the Photo Stream option in iCloud settings - seems it made it even worse, now I'm unable to access even the basic Photo Stream, let alone the shared ones!!! I tried resetting the Photo Stream via iCloud control panel on www.icloud.com, no effect... I switched to my MacBook, enabled the Photo Stream - same errors on both my iMac and MacBook. I am beginning to wonder whether first-gen iPad with iOS 5 connected to the same iCloud account could be causing problems. I disabled its Photo Stream, reset the Photo Stream again, no effect . Anybody experiencing similar problems?

Try logging out of your iCloud account in the System/iCloud preference pane and then log back in and try again. If that doesn't help launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists.
If it does log into another user account on your Mac and try there. All this is to try to narrow down where the problem is originating, your library, user account or the iCloud account itself. This is a first but I'm sure that's not very reassuring to you at this time.

• What determine whether I see 'keep both' or 'skip/stop/replace' as options when moving files??

Recently I've rolled over the file numbers on my camera again, so moving new photos around often causes filename conflicts: 'An item named "_XXX1234.jpg" already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the one you're moving?"
What controls whether I see "Keep both files" as an option (where Finder just adds a 2 suffix to the filename of the newer item being added) vs "skip/stop/replace"?
When I'm trying to copy distinct new items with duplicate filenames, I want to use 'keep both files'; when I'm grabbing a mass of files, moving to a common storage place, and want only the new files to copy over, so that finder does the hard work of figuring out which ones are new/missing from the new folder, I want the option of 'skip' instead.

The option-click 'copy file' does not change the dialog box from just clicking and dragging without option--still only seeing the skip/stop/replace.
I do use iPhoto, but find the file structure does not follow my patterns of use, so do not let it organize the files--for those many, inevitable times when I want to access the images directly without having to export the images first. I also have Adobe Bridge, which has a file renaming feature. But I started seeing this option of 'keep both' recently--I think since my install of Mavericks when 10.9.3 came out, and determined it does something very helpful to me, but can't figure out how to make it show up consistently. For some things it would be nicer than always just making a new iPhoto library when the file numbers start over again.
