MAJOR 7.5 bugs

Everywhere I've looked, people are having problems with their music not showing up after they've updated to 7.5. I've tried everything recommended, even to the point of doing multiple restores which have all been in vain.
At this point, I can't get iTunes to launch, even after I've removed iTunes completely and re-installed it, and also tried using previous versions of iTunes - nothing works. All I have on my iPod now are my photo files, which I'm assuming are only on there because they have nothing to do with music files.
The only conclusion is that iTunes 7.5 has MAJOR bugs in it. whether this is due to them incorporated iPhone information, I'm not sure. All I know is that it *DOES NOT WORK*.

Try this (I admit I haven't yet)from

  • MAJOR Cover Art bugs in iTunes 7.x.x

Here are some interesting observations in discovering MAJOR Cover Art bugs in iTunes 7.x.x
    1. Importing CDs
If you import a CD, you must wait for complete import to finish in hopes that all songs will populate successfully with cover art. Even here, success is random.
If you request cover art during the import, there are mixed results.
iTunes should be smart enough to detect if any album exists with partial cover art in the library database, then those tracks with missing cover art will be automatically detected and updated.
    2. Missing Cover Art
    This occurs on 2 levels:
    a. iTunes Store may just not have cover art for some (older) albums
    b. iTunes Store does find the cover art, but it is not applied to *all tracks* on the album
    The workarounds bring mixed results.
I have resorted to the "Get Info" approach and pasted cover art to random album tracks where cover art was only partly applied by iTunes.
In other cases, I scanned in the CD cover and applied it to albums where iTunes found no cover art. I assumed this would be a one-time fix as I expected some minimal tweaking would be involved in managing cover art.
No such luck! Here is why iTunes cover art represents a MAJOR bug in version 7.x.x
Day 1: I spend many hours tweaking and fine-tuning the cover art, assuming iTunes will "save" all my work. I browse different albums/tracks and everything looks great!
Day 2: Looks like iTunes only "saved" some of this effort. Sure enough, certain complete albums and random tracks from other albums now show NO cover art! How frustrating!
    * * * Here is what is MORE DISTURBING about this Cover Art bug! * * *
I resort to thinking about more workarounds, and here are the results:
Hmmmm. Looks like if I paste in the Cover Art twice on certain album tracks, the Cover Art is now applied to that track. Meaning, if you do a "Get Info" on a track, you will see two pastes in the Cover Art tab, yes, you add the cover art twice, one cover next to the other so as to force that album track to get the cover art to attach. On the surface, this seemed to work, and all album tracks now seem populated with Cover Art and the effort appears "saved" when I revisit the album on Day 2.
But all is not what it appears. The trick of adding missing cover art twice, in the hopes that an album and/or certain random album tracks might adopting the cover art you are trying to assign will produce the following:
IT ACTUALLY AFFECTS THE AUDIO TRACK!!!!
Multiple attempts to add/fix cover art will ADD TO TRACK DURATION, such that when you play a track, the lead-in portion of the lyrics (say first 10 secs or so) will REPEAT in as many times as you tried to add the cover art!!!!
Thinking this might be a corrupt library database, I even deleted the database, started over, and while adding missing cover art, was able to reproduce the lyrics repeating on those tracks where the cover art was added (pasted) twice. You can HEAR and see the increased track duration in iTunes 7.x.x
MAJOR Cover Art bug!!! So you are not alone. And besides all the wasted hours trying to fix this, I say wait for iTunes 8.x
Please post and let me know if you have had the same experience with this cover art bug and similar workarounds.
C'mon Apple! PLEASE FIX THIS. What gives?

You can tell iTunes to "Clear Downloaded Artwork" to get rid of the wrong image.
Getting iTunes to select the correct image, especially for compilations can be quite frustrating. I've been slowly cleaning up some old artwork from when iTunes could not pull artwork from the iTunes Store for music from other sources. I've learned to check the album in question by using the iTunes Store link in iTunes - I figure if it goes right the the album I'm all set - Wrong! Today I'm doing battle with a bunch of "20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection" albums. I can go through the album song by song and every one goes right to the correct album - but when I "Get Album Artwork" it still may not find the album or will pull in volume 2 instead of volume 1, etc. I've tried making sure my albums names are exact matches to the iTunes store with the same bad results.
It really seems like iTunes uses a different search method for artwork than for the iTunes Store link. At least Google has an image search...

  • Major font substitution bug in Illustrator CS5

    Hi all,
This took me a good long time to track down, and since I didn't find any information here and Adobe technical support was no help, I figured I'd post the result. Happy new year.
Here was the problem. Working in CS5, intermittently we would get font reflow issues. In addition, when going to edit the type boxes with font reflow, we would get the message, "This text was created in a different version of Illustrator. Editing the text may cause some changes to your text layout. Basic formatting will not be affected. Do you want to continue?" Please note it says "different version" rather than "previous version". These files originated and stayed in Ilustrator CS5! If we hit OK, the type would snap back to the original state!!! Worse, if the type was copied and pasted, or anything in character or paragraph styles was edited, it would snap back without ANY warning. Now you see it... now you don't. Major problem in any print environment.
So here is what I found, and this is a CS5 exclusive. If you are working on a file and have a font set open which includes a font from one foundry, and then opened another document and activated a font set with an identical font from a different foundry (the original font closing), the kerning for the original document (in the background now) would be set to zero (rather than auto) and the font would reflow. If you didn't notice the reflow, and saved the file, well it would create the condition as described above. Of course it isn't ideal to have the font foundry change like that, but bottom line usually you could get away with it... maybe with one or two characters moving slightly. In the new CS5 world, Illustrator decides you really don't need ANY kerning pair information and then helpfully tells you it was a "different" version of Illustrator that caused this. Heh.
What a mess. Bottom line, make sure your font management application is set to throw warnings when conflicting fonts are opened, and most importantly, leave the original font open! Do not allow the new font to be opened until the conflict is resolved.
If your font management application does not have this option (Universal Type Server 1 did not), you better upgrade or forget about using Illustrator CS5 in a heavy production environment.
Adobe, this was a major change and a major headache. You have some explaining to do...

Confirmed this is being generated entirely in CS5. I opened the font Sabon. I created a text box. I pasted in some generic type I had just made in text edit. I changed the font to Sabon and the paragraph to justify. I saved and closed the document and closed Illustrator. I closed Sabon and opened Sabon from another foundry. I opened Illustrator and opened the document. All looked good. I duplicated the text box over and outlined the type. I went into the font manager and closed Sabon. I opened the original Sabon. DING! Type reflow. I saved as a second document. I copied the outlined type and closed the document. I opened the original document (note the original font is open). No problems. I paste the outlined type (type outlined with the wrong version of the font active) and it lands exactly in place. I open the second document. The type that reflowed now gives me the stupid message about another version of Illustrator screwing it up. I hit OK and the type reflows back to the way it is supposed to be.
This proves that the kerning changes weren't due to differences between the fonts. This proves that Illustrator CS5 has a MAJOR type engine bug that could easily spell disaster in production.

  • MAJOR EDL Export BUG in 8.2!

I just upgraded to version 8.2 and now there is a major bug when exporting EDLs with audio clips!   EDLs (cmx3600 format) should only export Timecode In/Out for Source & Record.   The latest 8.2 version is now incorrectly outputting SAMPLE FORMAT for EDLS for any audio clips!  This is a major bug and potentially show-stopping.
    What 8.2 is exporting:
What it used to (and should continue to) export before 8.2:

with my PP 8.2.0 (65) Build, I get the same error with edl WAV audio clips until I 'link' video clip with audio clip below on the timeline
I believe after linking the video clip to the audio clip (below on the timeline), then exporting the edl, the timecode format displays properly
However, my edl export ability still needs work, because I would think my video timecode needs to match my audio timecode (for linked clips) so I am still working on importing the edl into Speedgrade and 'hearing' the audio
I was getting the same error audio text file as AjentJJ30, until I 'linked' video with audio,
so far my edl text file appears as below

EDIT: as you can see my WAV file does not show the proper clip name, as well as not displaying the .wav file extension.
I chase after the edl displaying proper WAV data, but could not achieve any solid results. My dng video clips from the bmpcc have wav files, normally they do not import into Speedgrade with the dng sequence, so using the video clips to test the edl process isn't very helpful.
I can not get results to support having the WAV edl data working when importing into SpeedGrade.
    Sorry to think otherwise.

  • MAJOR iTunes 7 Bug (messes your tracks up!)

OK I think I've found a really major bug here. I've been trying to manually paste in artwork, while the track is playing and then iTunes then overwrites the track repeating the 1st 7 seconds of the song twice!!!!!
I've just tested it on Whatshername by Green Day, and copied the file out to another location for I would have an original copy.
    Original track details;
    File size 6172kb
    Runtime 3:39
    iTunes altered version;
    File size 6367kb
    Runtime 3:46
I can then repeat this for any other track I try and paste artwork into.
    HELP!!!!

Okay, we've investigated this issue further. Here's the situation:
We can clear artwork for MULTIPLE items when it is our OWN artwork that we manually imported. But when it's Apple's artwork that iTunes 7 automatically downloaded, it doesn't let you clear the artwork for multiple items all at once... you actually have to clear the artwork one song at a time.
This is a real pain, since iTunes doesn't always download the proper artwork!

  • Major Music app bugs w/ iTunes Match

I have iTunes Match and the Music app on my iPhone is almost un-usable.  Two major bugs are causing this:
    1.  Sometimes, a song will fail to play if it's not downloaded.  I'll have it on shuffle-all and a song will come up and the app will pause for a minute (as if it's building the cache, which is fine), but then the song will fail to play and the next track will begin.  If I go back to that song, it will immediately skip it.  The only way to play the song, is to download it manually (with the little cloud icon) and it will play fine.  HUGE pain in the butt when I'm driving.
    2.  More often than the first bug, a song will begin to play and when it get's to the 1-minute mark, it will skip to the next track for five seconds and then come back.  When it comes back to the original track the counter will start ticking, but no music will play.  The only way to get it to play again is to seek to before the 1 minute mark and hope it doesn't happen again (about 30% chance of getting through it).  If it doesn't happen at the 1 minute mark it will sometimes happen at the 2 or 3 minute mark (+/- 5 seconds).
    Is it just me?

Okay, so since I'm the only one experiencing this problem... is there something I'm doing wrong?  Is there a way to submit a bug report?

  • Major 8.3 bugs

i'm having major bugs after installing ios 8.3 on my iphone 6.
first, my phone keeps freezing. it will be in an app or just on the home screen and i won't be able to do anything. this never happened before the update.
second, my phone won't connect to my wifi. i will be in the wifi selection area, and it says that it is connected in there, but the bars won't show up and my apps that require data take forever, in my own house, on just 3G.
i haven't had much in the way of battery drain issues (maybe it's a little quicker) but these are major problems for me.
has anyone had similar issues. anything i can do about this?

    Hi Deggie!
    Thanks for the thoughtful response.
I tried everything you suggested over the weekend. It's not all apps, but it's definitely a good amount of them -- but what's most perplexing is that it's doing it in the camera app, which is an Apple app, and it happens most often in apps that are trying to use the camera or maps or launch Chrome from within Twitter for instance.
As for the wifi problem, that seems to have worked. Thank you!
    M.

  • Will Mountain Lion fix the major Internet Sharing bug in Lion?

Does anyone know if Apple have indicated that they will be issuing a fix to the Internet Sharing bug in Lion (i.e. Internet Sharing does not work) in the new Mountain Lion?

Hmmm. Pete, suggest cease dissing people's problem with VNC in Mt Lion as "doesn't exist here" syndrome. Maybe for you, it's working just fine....for some of us...NOT.
Following several threads on issues with VNC and Lion and the vague hope that Mt Lion would fix the problem, I also upgraded to Mt Lion. Worse.
Prior to Lion, VNC worked every time with any Mac I tried, inside or outside the local network. With Lion, VNC worked correctly until around 10.7.4, then with intermittent connections (requiring restarts on the target Mac in order to connect a second time).
Now, with Mt Lion (target Mac is still on Lion and restarted), I cannot connect externally to the Lion Mac even with it being restarted (and Screen Sharing and Remote Management turned off/on as one thread suggested).
As another thread suggested, I had deleted the iCloud System Pref on both Macs while on Lion (with no effect to VNC).
While I'm sure there's a solution out there, I have yet to find it.
Thanks for any suggestions, but will someone at Apple please address this issue?

  • MAJOR Flaw or Bug in the Video iPod

    Hey everyone,
I believe I have found a flaw or at least a bug in the Apple 60 Gig Video iPod.
If you play a movie on the iPod it will not let you shut down the unit until you play a song, going back in to the menu screens does not help.
Here is the scenario, you have downloaded a movie to your iPod and you play it, you pause the movie and try and shut down by pressing and holding down the play/pause button and nothing happens.
You go back to the main iPod menu and again you try and shut down the unit by pressing and holding down the play/pause button and again nothing happens.
The only way you can get the unit to shut down it to play a song, then press and hold down the play/pause button and it shuts down.
I have tried this on 3 different 60gig Video iPods and they all do it.
Now what I have found out is that if your iPod is in a Video dock so you can play it on your TV the iPod works, if you press and hold the play/pause button it shuts down right away like it should.
I called Apple tech support about this and they had no clue, they had me reload the OS back on to the iPod and of course that did nothing.
You guys should really try this on your iPods, I think Apple has a bug with these units and I hope that it is not a hardware issue and something that can be fixed via a software update.
iPod 60 Gig   Windows XP Pro

Ok I have more info on this for you, I am playing a DVD that I installed on the iPod it is 615Meg Mp4 file, it plays perfect no sync problems at all.
I have timed it and I have to wait 2 min and 30 sec before I can turn the unit off once I stop the movie. Now if I play that same movie in my video dock, I can shut down the iPod instantly without having any wait time, I can even shut down the movie while it is playing without having to go back to a menu.

  • Final Cut Pro X & ProRes Major but Funny BUG

This must be the weirdest BUG I have ever experienced... And the most difficult to find. I found it via coincidence ;-)
I playback and use ProRes 4444 inside of FCPx. And generally there is NO problem doing so. Until yesterday...
In After Effects I converted a bunch of H.264 Canon 5DMKii movies, after denoising them, to ProRes4444.
I imported the movies into Final Cut X and immediately noticed that they were jerky in playback. So I loaded the original files and wanted to see whether they were jerky as well. They were not... Here comes the funny part...
The Original H.264 had AUDIO on them the ProRes version I had stripped the audio from as I did not need it. To better compare the two files (Don't know why I did it but I did) in the timeline I just copied the audio from H.264 file over underneath the ProRes4444-jerky file. Then I compared again. This time the ProRes was playing smooth as silk. I could NOT believe my eyes. I was cursing at the Mac but after smoking a cigarette and contemplating, I went back an deleted the audio from underneath the Prores 4444 file. Back to jerky. I put the audio back - jerkiness GONE...
So I did some more testing...
I took a completely different clip and imported that into After Effects.
I did the same denoising to it and exported TWO versions to PRORES 4444.
1 with Audio and 1 without it...
Then imported the two into FCPx...
We are talking TWO identical files here expect one has audio to it.
The one with audio played back silky while the one without was jerky.
I copied the audio (any audio will do) underneath the jerky one and it stopped jerking around.
I opened the two test files in QuickTime 7 and 10 and NONE of them were Jerky... This issue seems to pertain to FCPx only....
So if any of you export from AE to ProRes4444 and the guy on the FCPx station gets agitated because of the jerkiness,
before you blame adobe (like I did) tell him to just copy some sound underneath the sound-less video clip. That will take care of the problem,
untill Apple fixes the problem ;-)

Glad you found a solution, AtonMusic! Did you bring the issue up to Apple?

  • Major File Resolution Bug in iTunes

I have repeatedly encountered what I consider a major problem iTunes has in resolving file names. Here's a recent problem that almost lost me a customer. I'm an audio engineer and I use iTune as an audio format converter. I had just finished an audiobook project spanning 6 CD's. It's in AIFF format. I wanted to send an MP3 version to my customer over FTP. I used iTunes for the conversion.
I cleared out my iTunes library, then dropped the original AIFF files for CD 1 into iTunes. I went into the import preferences and set iTunes up to create 128Kbps stereo MP3 files. I then selected all the files and started the conversion. This worked fine for CD 1.
After saving these MP3 files outside iTunes, I deleted all files from my library. I then dropped in the AIFF files for CD 2 and started a conversion of these new files. The files for each CD are named in the same manner: "Track x.aiff" where x is the track number.
Here's where the problem occurred. iTunes totally confused the first set of files from CD 1 with the new files from CD 2. Even though I had deleted the old CD 1 files, somehow iTunes still pointed to the originals or maybe the ones in the trash. When I did the MP3 conversion, I got CD 1 files, not CD 2.
To make sure this wasn't a mistake on my part, I repeated this several times on two different Mac's (a 1.25 GHz G4 iBook and a 2.0 GHz dual G5 workstation), both running Mac OS 10.4.8. I got the same problem in all attempts.
Bottom line, iTune has a real problem with two files of the same name and will likely get them confused.

Why didn't you import them as Disc 1 thru 6 of 6?
And why didn't you give them real file names?
I thought doing them one CD at a time would be less likely to confused iTunes.
The track names were generated automatically by an audio editing program I use. In fact, they were originally named like: "CD x Track y.aiff" When I first inported them into iTunes, it stripped off the "CD x" portion of the name.
After saving these MP3 files outside iTunes, I
deleted all files from my library.
How did you save them outside iTunes?
Select them in iTunes, then drag and drop into a folder.
And how did you delete them from the libary?
Select all, hit the delete button on the keyboard and then confirm that I want to move them to the trash.,
As an aside, why did you use 128 kbps?
If it's just speech (no music), you could use 32
mono/64 k stereo and the quality would be just fine.
It's mostly speech but there is some music. I wanted a little better quality that 32/64.

  • Major Front Row Bug

    Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro 2.2 Ghz with a external 24" Display as the main monitor. I started Front Row, went to the DVD menu and had the "loading dvd" thing coming up. I watched my movie for a while and quit FrontRow with the remote control. Then I decided to go back to FrontRow and continiue my movie, but as soon as I hit the DVD menu my screen just went black, no key combination helped but hardware reset... This bug occured already twice.
What can I do? I don't want to loose my data if that happens another few times since I haven't recieved my backup drive.

I had a similar problem as this, and it may be in conjunction with the problems people were having in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5666519&#5666519
If turning off the screen saver doesn't work, it might be a minor glitch involving Leopard's new de-interlacing technology. I am going to do some further reading on this to see what can be done to correct it and call Apple if necessary to ask for their recommendations.

  • MAJOR Flash CC Bug

I just finished editing a Rich Media unit in Flash CC. The FLA contained a MovieClip that had a frame script that I needed to make a few edits to. Unfortunately FlashCC did not save these changes when I saved the file. When I opened the file again it had completely reverted to the origional version. I made a few changes again just to test, and was still unable to save the changes. Finally I opened the FLA in CS6 and finished the project successfully.
I remeber a similar bug when they introduced the ability to "Pin" frame scripts - changes made to the pinned scripts did not save. I wonder if this is something similar in relation to the new script sidebar.
In any case, be warned that your scripts may not save!
For the record, this FLA was created in CS6.

    Hi Mike,
If the problem is reproducible with a fla then can you please share the same? It'll help us debug the issue.
    Regards,
    Dharmendra.

  • Major iTunes Match bug - WARNING!

I spent an entire day editing album and song titles for my music collection in iTunes on my Mac.  I'm very careful, so to ensure the changes would stick after I was done I selected "Update iTunes Match", and then shutdown iTunes.   The next morning, I turned on my iPad and discovered that none of the changes were there.   So I went to my Mac and started iTunes and discovered that all my edits had reverted back to their original values.   *** is iTunes Match doing!
    Ouch!
    Paul

    Hi Jim,
Yes, I edit music in iTunes using the "get info" function, and often make bulk changes.  I have a large classical music library, and I use a naming system as follows:
    Album Titles:
Composer • Piece • Primary Artist
So for example I have the following albums in my collection:
    Chopin • Preludes • Blechacz
    Chopin • Preludes • Pollini
    Chopin • Preludes • Rubinstein
    Bruckner • Symphonies • Haitink
    Bruckner • Symphonies • Jochum
Beethoven • Violin Concerto • Heifetz
Beethoven • Violin Concerto • Mutter
Beethoven • Violin Concerto • Znaider
If I buy an album with both the Brahms and the Beethoven violin concerto (I think Hahn has such an album), then I split it into 2 albums in iTunes.   The 2 albums would have the same album art, but would have different album titles as described above.
    Song Titles:
I don't like having the composer prefixed on the song title as is often done by default.  This is because song titles are usually truncated on Apple TV and iPhone, etc...  Also, the album title tells me the composer, so it doesn't need to be in the song title.  So instead of:
Beethoven: Violin Concerto in D major, op. 61: Allegro ma non troppo
    I prefer:
Violin Concerto in D major, op. 61: Allegro ma non troppo
I only make an exception to the above for compilation albums.
I have purchased music, matched from CD music, and unmatched but uploaded music.  I have the same issues with iTunes edits getting undone for all 3 kinds of music.   Thanks to a suggestion from Michael, I have been experimenting and noticed that if I limit the number of my changes and I keep iTunes running without shutting it down, then the changes seem to stick better.   Its as if there is a limit to the number of edits Match can support, and also there is a long delay for Match to push the changes to the cloud.  If you exceed these mysterious limits then the changes are lost, but you may not know they are lost until the next day when they are mysteriously undone.
I have also found, as MIchael suggested above, that invoking "update iTunes Match" will surely undo any recent iTunes edits.  So stay away from that if you've done any edits within the last 24 hours or so.
