Major bunch of iMovie 09 bugs

This is sort of difficult to explain. iMovie 09 (latest updates too) seems to really hate me. Do you know when you start to skim a video, and the red bar appears along your cursor as you skim, well that doesn't happen for me. Also I cant trim video since no handles appear at the end of my video. In fact, I can't even select video, since the video never appears to be selected. If I add a title to my video, I have to restart the entire application in order for the title to appear on the timeline. Also, selecting photos is a no no, I just get a big white block for photos. There are many more bugs to (too many to list). Basically my copy of iMovie is exploding with bugs and I don't know why? The thing worked just one week ago but now it hates me. I don't know how to completely delete iMovie, so I could re install it and I know this sounds stupid, how could I reinstall imovie without it effecting all my other iLife apps?

Its alright now, a lot of these problems where fixed with the new update.

IMovie 09 BUG ? Amendments to Titles not reflected.

Something irritating happens to me in using iMovie '09.
I made a short 5 mins movie, after testing and what not & after being satisfied, I then goto Share > Export Movie, type a filename then press ENTER. A message then appeared and say "Preparing project ...". After 7 mins, the movie is completed.
Then when I played the movie, I realized I don't like the fonts of the titles. So I went back & amend the Title. Then I repeat Share > Export Movie. When I chose the same filename, it asked me whether I want to replace the old file. So, I clicked REPLACE.
When I opened up the file, it played the old movie (meaning the amendment of the title was not reflected). How come it is still playing the old file ?
Fed up, so I tried again, this time deleting the old file before sharing it again. Doesn't work, I tried deleting old file and naming a new file, it also doesn't work. I notice all this time after clicking Share > Export movie, instead of the message "Preparing Project", the message now says "Exporting Movie".
Being too fed up, this time I tried inserting some photos & then took it away & do more amendments. This time when I clicked Share > Export movie, it says "Preparing Project" and it worked !!
I can only conclude that after you clicked Share > Export movie, if the message says "Preparing Project", it will work but you got to pray that the message that comes out is not "Exporting Movie".
Is it a bug that you must make more amendments than just changing the fonts of the Titles ?
Is this a bug ? Or is there some settings that I missed out ?

I don't see prores 422, I do see aic. I tested this the other day and it offers zero compression, but it still gave me a soft output. I must have done something wrong with the settings. I used the preset for HDV 1080i and it still wasn't good. How do i get proress 422. Do i need to have final cut pro? I hope not.

Yet another iMovie 6 bug-Crashing!

Why did I have to upgrade on both my drives? Buggy, buggy, buggy. Transitions don't work properly, neither do video effects and it has a tendency to crash. But, hey, great-looking box!
I wish instead of coming out with all these fancy new features, they'd concentrate on making the software stable.
But, hey, that's just me.

These are projects started in iMovie 6. Yes, I'm having some issues with 3rd party plugins. But they worked fine with the previous version. And, anyway, so few transitions and effects come standard with iMovie—what else are we supposed to do? I'm finding the new preview irritating. It decides for itself when it loops and when it doesn't—so I have to keep turning it off. Sometimes the update feature doen't work. Sometimes I get white frames at the end of pictures placed in the timeline so I have to go back in and clip them off. Updating clips sometimes causes transitions to re-render funny and the whole block has to be removed and recreated. And, in general, the new interface seems fancier but is more cumbersome to work with and takes longer to do projects. I've also had issues exporting finished movies.
In general, it feels like a beta version and I didn't have the sense to wait until the bugs got worked out. My bad. Each first effort seems a little buggy, but this one is the least stable yet. It's almost like the marketing people are telling the programmers when the product is ready rather than the other way around.

IMovie rotation bug when recording new footage

on an iPad open iMovie and start a new movie, holding the iPad portrait click the camera button to record a new video. Is the camera rotation wrong, if you turn the device around to landscape is the rotation still wrong. Now come back to the iMovie screen, now turn your iPad landscape and press the camera button again, it works now right?
is this just happening on my iPad? Or is it doing to others as well.

IMovie '06 bug - Titles - Animated Gradient

I couldn't find anyone else who asked this question under iMovie '06 so I'll post it here.
It appears that whenever you have created a title with multiple lines, and then click on the Animated Gradient title under Clip to Character, or any of those transitions, iMovie will crash. Once it opens back up, if you haven't previously saved the project immediately after working on a multi-line title, you can use it just fine. Otherwise, you have to work on or create a single-line title in order to use one of these transitions.
"Save early, Save often" is not a phrase I usually associate with Apple, nor is quit and restart, but both have become regular practice in this version of iMovie.

I'm actually having problems now duplicating the problem on cue in a new project. I can get it to crash, but it's kind of hard to give the exact sequence. The project I'm working on is a DV/NTSC/Full Screen (4x3) mode movie. It consists of photo stills, transitions and titles, with a music soundtrack.
For example:
Take a song purchased from iTunes and place it in the timeline.
Take a photo and place it into the timeline set at 00:05:20 duration
Copy and paste that clip
Apply the black and white effect to the first clip
Create a 2:10 cross-dissolve between the two
Add a 1:16 Fade-in before the two and a 1:16 Fade out after
Using Edwardian Script ITC font (if you have it on your machine)
Put in a multi-line Centered title over black, largest size
Put in a multi-line scrolling block over black, largest size
In the Titles Pane, click on a different Title type, just not a Clip to Character.
Click on another clip then click back on one of the title clips after it has rendered. Make sure the titles pane changes to the appropriate Title.
Test 1) Try to select one of the Clip to Character transitions, specifically Animated Gradient, as if you were going to update that title clip to an Animated Gradient.
Test 2) Click on one of the multi-line titles and add several lines (4 or 5 pairs)
Keep going back and forth between title types, both with a current title clip selected, as well as without.
This is the type of situation where I am running into trouble. The kind of text doesn't matter. I typed in several lines of gibberish and it did the same thing as the "clean text." Punctuation doesn't seem to be an issue. I thought maybe a ' I was using was throwing something off. That doesn't seem to make a difference. The fact is I can get the title put in, but only if I am careful about how I go about it. That is frustrating.

FCPX & iMovie import bug

It appears to only have started to happen after the 10.1 Update.
I'm using a Canopus ADVC-55 over a FW 800 -> FW 600 adapter and has worked successfully in the past.

Appears on all clips that i'm previewing (eg. Clips that are playing through the import window but are not being imported as such).
It does not appear on the imported video so no its not such a drastic issue but it should be resolved if possible.
This applies for both iMovie and FCPX

HELP: Major LR5 and 5.2 Bug

If I move to the right in my filmstrip (in Develop), all modifications are copied from one photo to the next, including the crop settings and vertical correction. It's like Auto Sync is enabled, but it isn't.
This is not the bug where just one setting is copied if the value is entered manually and the user clicks the next photo without hitting enter.
Literally, all the modifications are copied - including auto correction, exposure, crop, etc. This is a huge issue as I'm afraid to click through my pics.
I did not have this issue in LR5 Beta, only in LR5. I upgraded to RC 5.2 and the issue is still there

IMovie 08 bugged? I lost the components!!?!?!

Sorry, if this have been brought up before or that I haven't come across it. When I started using iMovie 08 for the first time a week ago, I had the audio/color adjustment display right after I click on the button or right on the video clips. Just a few days ago it didn't work at all! The mouse just turn to the audio/speaker color/colorwheel on the mouse. And the clips get highlighted and nothing appear It says to "select clip" I tried that and nothing work! Yes, I have restarted my computer more than one time, tried tech support turn out my tech support expire!! Please help... I don't want to pay $50 for a 30 day support just for a simple answer... that I can't figure out!!

Hi. I called Apple support & talked to a really helpful "Apple Expert". She instructed me to do the following, which worked like a charm.* (she also warned not to use the technique to rectify problems in other programs because it can mess up a lot of settings in some programs)*
1.) Within Finder, click on Home > Library > [Caches] . Delete the [caches] folder.
2.) Now click on Home > Preferences . Delete the file: com.apple.imovie7.plist .
3.) restart computer.

Can't drag and drop iMovie files into iDVD project

I created a bunch of iMovie projects, went through the share/media browser process. They show up as icons in iDVD but when I try to drag and drop them, I don't get the green plus sign and they don't drop. I've tried both widescreen and standard settings, in both iMovie and iDVD, matching them up - still won't drop.

What's the path to the file? Is it on an external drive? A network drive? A mapped drive? Can you try copying the file to your desktop and dragging it from there?
It's on an external e-sata drive. No problem accessing the file from within Premiere. Just can't drop it into Encoder. Doesn't work if I drag to desktop and try from there either.
Are you dragging it in from Windows Explorer? If not, then what app are you dragging from?

Have you tried importing via File > Add Source...? [Double-clicking a blank spot in the Queue gets you to the same Open dialog.]
Yep, tried that. No luck. Double clicking and adding didn't work either.
Definitely only seems to be QT files. Have tried H264 files from 7D camera and ProRes files. No luck. Files that are MP4 work fine.

Imovie not reading my external drive

Have a bunch of imovie events I dragged from iMac at work to my Lacie 1tb ext drive. Have connected it to my MBP for editing at home. IMovie recognizes the external drive but the events are not showing up under the drive symbol after opening it (arrow pointing down)

I have uninstalled Crossover. Still no luck. Here is what I see:

As you can see, it is like the drive just disappears. Judging from the time stamps on the Screen Shots, it takes the whole process about 32 seconds.

Can this iMovie program do anything at all????

I am frustrated, I have bunch older iMovie files and none of them can be opened, my USB camcorder can't be recognized by the program, all I see is myself in the little import box looking frustrated, what does this iMoive program do anyway? This is not a good sign...... I want my older iMovie program compatibility back!!!!!

Downloaded 9.0.4 imovie, how to get it to work??

We downloaded the 9.0.4 imovie update & the system states it is installed, however the icon on the desktop gives me this message when I open it:
The version of iMovie installed on this Mac must be updated through the Mac App Store. Check the Mac App Store to see if an update is available.
I have tried rebooting the computer, plus when I open imovie, & check info, it shows we are still running the older version!! GRRRRR
Please tell me how to install the newer version!! According to the "app store" I am current on everything. I'm so confused!

How i reduced by 10 times the size of imovie Thumbnails

as you may know imovie produces huge movie thumbnails file that appears to be encoded in this format:

it's there just to allow the timeframe to be animated while hoovering it with the cursor which is a MAJOR feature of imovie that I LOVE!!!!

With the newly encoded thumbnail imovie reacts the same way and the movie editing is just AS GOOD AND EASY.

As far as I can see it takes up exactly the same amount of size, it's just stored in the library instead of in the project. Am I missing something - or is that what you mean?
Even when we include both the Event Library and the Project Library, the size of an iMovie 7 project is considerably smaller than earlier versions of iMovie. That is because iMovie 7 doesn't convert the source material to DV, which occurred with most pre-7 projects. H.264 video we import, for example, no longer swells to many times its original size. That saves us a lot of disk space. (I just imported a 12MB H.264 movie — a Large movie exported from iM7 — to iMovie 6. It swelled into a 120MB DV clip. When I import the same movie to iMovie 7 the project and Event combined, including Thumbnails, is 15MB.)
There's one other potential saving. It's now possible to discard Event material while retaining only those part(s) of the Event the project actually uses. That wasn't possible in iMovie 5 or 6. In 5/6, a source clip was never discarded if a project clip used ANY PORTION of the source material. If we used 5 seconds of a 30-minute clip the project retained the whole 30 minutes when we emptied the Trash. That's no longer true. In iM7, if we want to keep 5 seconds we can discard the rest. (I haven't tested that feature yet, but that's what the Space Saver dialog says. For more details search for "space saver" in iMovie Help.)
There's one other advantage to iMovie 7. We can store Events on other disks away from the project. For laptops and iMacs — which can use just one internal drive — that lets us store Events on inexpensive external disks. Yes, we could store entire projects on external drives in earlier versions, but iMovie 7 lets us keep our projects in one place, in the Movies folder of our startup drive, while storing Events somewhere else. I use three drives to store Events; I assume I could use many more drives if needed.
So we will use a lot less disk space for iMovie 7 than we ever did in earlier versions. In that context, I'm not worried about the few MB used for the Thumbnail movies. Nor am I willing to run the risk of messing up a project by fiddling with material iMovie owns. Down that road lies disaster. When we discard Event material, for example, what happens to the thumbnail we substituted? Will it cause problems for iMovie when it tries to modify our thumbnail movie that has a different frame rate? Will iMovie simply discard our thumbnail movie and build a new one? Has anyone tested this? Does anyone know? What happens we we add new material to an Event?
Others may be willing to take such risks, but when considering the whole iMovie 7 space-saving environment, I don't think the risks are worth it. iMovie 7 is such a space saver I'm not going to worry about the thumbnails.

after upgrade from firmware V3 to V4 i´m not able to use my bluetooth gps mouse. I can pair the device, but when I use it with sportstracker for example, it allways tries to reconnect

Imovie 09 serious crashing issue - please help!

I am a newbie to digital technology so I hope this makes sense....
I have a major issue with imovie 09... the movie I have been making for the past year which is now 25 minutes long crashed a few times - this happened after I downloaded a nokia phone transfer application to transfer the videos from my phone to the computer. I am not sure if this has anything to do with imovie crashing however, once I removed the videos from iphoto, imovie at least opened up again. Currently I can still play my movie in the viewer in imovie if i hit the spacebar, there are lots of weird speeded up sounds and noise issues but the clips are all there.
The first clip thumbnails are in the left hand viewer along with sound bars and transitions etc... however, i cannot scroll down as the arrow on the scroll bar is missing.
Unfortunately the "My Passport" that I bought to automatically back up the movie doesn't appear to be working either. I didn't know about time machine until yesterday and didn't have it turned on.
A year of my life has been spent on this movie, I have been very naive not to back it up lots of times, I have learnt an important lesson. I really need to rescue this movie..... If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. I just spent an hour talking to a mac helpline guy but unfortunately he wasn't able to help.

I've been using FileVault for a long time with no problems whatsoever. As with any software package, there are going to be problems from time to time - that is why you BACK UP any and all important data. FileVault is not intended to back anything up or keep is safe from any failure other than security. FileVault keeps the data from prying eyes - that's all it does. It does it very very nicely in that you can copy the "username.sparseimage" file onto another computer and use the password to open it!
I do not want to see people learning about Macs and FileVault's capabilities to get the wrong impression here. This is a fantastic utility that works wonderfully. If you have data that you cannot afford to lose and do not have it backed up - then that is 100% your fault. If you really needed that data, you would have backed it up on an external drive (copying the sparseimage file) or one of dozens of other methods to keep the data safe. I recommend laptop users to turn on FileVault (remember to set a Master Password!) if they have any sensitive information on their computer - but you have to take responsibility and make sure that data gets backed up. Any protection you take is nullified when a drive fails, or you get a power spike - unless you back up.
Please remember the role each piece of software has and not expect it to do something it was not designed to do.
