Major CS5 bug where Smart Objets get thin horizontal lines??

Our prepress company has come across and proven out a rendering bug in Photoshop CS5 for Mac.  It has caused us to consider totally avoiding CS5 until it's fixed.  We are finding that CS5 is putting in several randomly generated thin horizontal lines about a pixel in height and varying widths, in cases where CS4 does not.  Some files get these lines when converting live "smart objects" from one ICC colorspace to another.
I am providing a link to a specific file that shows proof of this bug.   The example file has an embedded sRGB profile.  To see the bug, set you working RGB colorpsace to AdobeRGB, and set your Policies to "Ask".  During opening, USe the embedded profile. Then convert it to the AdobeRGB 1998 colorspace using File Convert, and do not rasterize the smart objects.  You will see lines in the lower right hand corner after it's converted.  Now go back and rasterize the smart object layers first, and these lines will not show up.  And now do the same with CS4, without rasterizing the smart objects and you will not get lines.  CS5 bug, CS4 no bug.
Let me know what you find on your end.  Can any of the adobe employees document this for me and get it on the fix list?

I also head a Graphics/Prepress department at a medium format digital print shop, with next day service to the casino industry. My two cents worth, CS4 did not have this issue, CS 4 was a Cocoa app and CS5 a Carbon app, to me that is not a reason why a major software company like Adobe has multiple leading products (PS, ID, Ill) that cause these kind of problems. I can't count the times my print opp's have come back with a file showing lines. Now, I have told my designers that we should also be looking for the lines, now that we know about it.
I have printed fabric before and it is a pain to print one and see if there are lines in it, but which is more painful, printing one to test? Or trashing $3k worth of fabric? I know this works for one image printed x times, but multiple images printing a couple each to fulfill the job would be a huge ordeal. Adobe doesn't understand that yet. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, maybe we should all start calling tech support daily.
I saw a post suggesting rasterize pdf's in lower PS to work around, clearly an ad agency/freelance solution, not a production house solution. Opening and closing PS12 and PS11 somewhere around 15 to 20 times, per work station?  We process somewhere around 40 minimum pieces of art a day, and sometimes double that. I could rant on this suggestion all day.
The bottom line is Adobe has no clue where it is coming from, they are more worried about the iPad/mobile industry right now.

There is a thin horizontal line running across the width of my screen about 1/4 of the way from the bottom. This line, along with an occasional vertical line about a 1/3 of the way from the right side of my monitor, started appearing about 7 days ago. Usually the line would disappear after a restart but now it seems intent on staying. Does anyone know what is going on and how can I resolve this?

You can try Resetting the iPod, won't work, if LCD screen is damaged or the display chip surface mounts has gone wobbly, which mean going in for servicing.

  • Thin Horizontal Line Across Screen

I've had them before and they disappeared spontaneosly. The latest one seems to want to hang around. Any idea how to get rid of it?

This is a followup to my post earlier today. A web search on "Thin Horizontal Line Across Screen" turned up this article:
    http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/post24947-5.html
Sure enough, my horizontal line came back. I decided to follow the advice in the linked article. I didn't even have to twist the monitor. I barely tapped the screen as I was reaching up to twist the panel, and the line disappeared. This suggests to me that the problem is a loose internal connection between the driver circuitry and the panel.

    hi kbrunk,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums and sorry to hear about your trouble.
Horizontal lines are commonly caused by an imminent failure on the LCD (either the LCD panel or the LCD cable) or the GPU. To identify which component is failing, the unit must be connected to an external display. If the display is fine then the culprit is the LCD cable, otherwise, it's the GPU (which is integrated to the CPU (CPU is soldered to the motherboard)).
In the event that the problem is with the LCD cable, you can opt to:
    1. Contact lenovo for service
    2. Have the machine serviced at a professional computer repair center (if they don't have the parts for the repair, you can purchase it online (like this item).
If it's not convenient to have the unit serviced at the moment (ie. need it for an upcomming exam, thesis, etc.), the computer can still be used if the horizontal line is still bearable but I recommend you get it serviced ASAP.
    Regards

  • FCP 7 Why do I get these horizontal lines on my playback?

I'm working in Final Cut with 1920x1080 Apple Pro Res footage. For some reason I keep getting these
horizontal lines when I playback footage on my timeline or viewer. What is this?

When I export to quicktime there are no horizontal lines. It's only a problem in FCP.
So when I transcode my footage for FCP to Apple Pro Ress 422 (HQ) I should click 'deinterlace video' rather than 'interlace scaling' Is that what you're saying?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Getting waved-horizontal lines running through my photos...Happens not during time of working image in photoshop...but appears when sending to files or other applications, such as after printing back to files...?  Mac checked out OK.

Getting waved-horizontal lines in my imagery just after working in photoshop...sending to files as with after completing some applications, such as printing. Nothing is wrong with my Mac...Issue does not occur every time I go into using Photoshop?

Doesn't matter what kind of file...size, jpeg or tiff, black and white as color, etc...Something is in the software issue for my upgraded CS 5 Photoshop, running on a Mac OSX with Leopard version. The CS 5 Adobe software was in an up-grade from CS 3. Best I can do and I thank you for any suggestions based on your experienced background as I can only offer a general interpretation with the waved-horizontal lines that run across some of my images from being in the Photoshop mode from Bridge.

  • Thin Horizontal Lines on 27" iMac display, 0.5 inches thick covering dock

About a week ago I started to notice thin horizontal lines running across the bottom of my 27" iMac Core Duo screen. A ribbon of thin lines, about 1/2 inch thick, covering the bottom portion of the dock. The overall ribbon of lines is translucent, a bit animated shortly after boot-up but they become pretty fixed and static after a few minutes so I can still see and manipulate the dock, and I have not noticed any malfunctioning of iMac systems. All applications are working fine as always. For months I have been downloading all the software, operating system and firmware updates, without a problem. I have no other software or firmware updates that I can download. Like other iMac 27" users, I too suffered thru a period this past winter when the display screen intermittently flickered or blacked out or worse, but those problems were immediately fixed by Apple's relevant display firmware updates that came out in December and January. I recently called AppleCare and they ran thru a diagnostic test with me over the phone, but they can't diagnose the underlying problem. Next step requires that I lug the computer to a nearby Apple Store for a "Genius Bar" appointment. Will do that soon. But in meantime, has anyone else with an iMac 27" display experienced this latest problem that I'm having despite having downloaded all available software and firmware updates? Thanks, in advance, for whatever insights and helpful advice that you can share.

  • Why do I get faint horizontal lines when I print from elements 12 mac

why do I get faint horizontal lines when I print from elements 12 mac

    Hi Ben,
I can't reproduce that behavior.  The only two things I can think of at the moment are (1) you accidentally added a shortcut as a panel shortcut instead of a diagram shortcut or (2) the name of the object you specified isn't for the "Multiply" node, but for some other node (you said "Multiplication" in your initial post) that can only be dropped in certain places (i.e. maybe it's a node that is only valid in Simulation diagrams).  Can you post the following lines from your LabVIEW INI file so I can look into it further:
    QuickDropDiagramShortcuts
    QuickDropPanelShortcuts
    Let me know,
    -D
    Edit:  Yeah, what he said.

  • I don't have a Camera Raw option in Photoshop CS5. Where do I get the correct plug in??

I have been trying to download plugins for the Camera Raw option for Photoshop CS5.  It is not working....I get a message that 6.4 is not found and 6.5 not compatible.  Where can I get the correct download for Windows 7?  I am very frustrated.
    Thank you!

Here is he download page.  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows
For CS5 you can download 6.7  Do not need the prior ones as they are cumulative.

  • Thin Horizontal Lines visible within PDF file after OCR run

I print to PDF(Acrobat 9.1 Pro), from an imaging application where the images are stored and managed as 300dpi TIFF(Group 4) B&W.
The PDF file is produced with no issues.  At this time I run the OCR process to capture the type written data.  As the OCR process works it's way throught the file, the PDF is re-written with both OCR data and thin black horizontal lines every 2/3 of a inch down the page.
These lines will be saved with the file and print out.
How do I eliminate these lines?

I had this problem too.  I'm using Acrobat Pro 9.4 and after OCRing a doc it had horizontal lines running across the page.  We were able to fix it by first Optimizing the document and then OCRing it.
    Document > Optimize Scanned PDF
When finished, Document > OCR Text Recognition > Recognize text using OCR
    Hope this helps

  • My iPad screen shows a very thin horizontal line... What could it be?

My iPad ia showing a very thin red horizontal line... Wyatt could it be? What should I do? Please help guys!
    Tks!

You can try giving it a reset. HOld down the sleep and home keys, past when you see the red power down slider and until you see the silver apple. See if the reboot helps.
If not you should make an appointment at your local apple store and have them look at it. If something is wrong with the iPad's version of the video card, that's beyond a user fix.

  • Where can I get photos  on line to use as backgrounds for Photoshop Elements 9 ?

I have some pictures that iI took @ Walt Disney World  that I would like to have new backgrounds. I have downloaded some from on line but when I try to fit them for the background they become blurred. Is there a site that I can download photos ? Is there a  requirement about what size & how many pixels are needed? I'm using Photoshop Elements 9 .

If you Google for free photos for download, you will get many hits.
The problem is that they are usually low resolution, resulting in a suboptimal presentation with your high resolution foreground.
Another consideration is the copyright issue.
I usually make my own background in this type of situation. However, in full editor, open the content palette. In the drop-down select "by type" and in the drop-down to the right select "backgrounds".
If you are so inclined, post one of your pictures here for targeted suggestions.
