Major differences between SAP BW & BI

What are the major difference between SAP BW & BI

1. In Infosets now you can include Infocubes as well.
2. The Remodeling transaction helps you add new key figure and characteristics and handles historical data as well without much hassle. This is only for info cube.
3. The BI accelerator (for now only for infocubes) helps in reducing query run time by almost a factor of 10 - 100. This BI accl is a separate box and would cost more. Vendors for these would be HP or IBM.
4. The monitoring has been imprvoed with a new portal based cockpit. Which means you would need to have an EP guy in ur project for implementing the portal !
5. Search functionality hass improved!! You can search any object. Not like 3.5
6. Transformations are in and routines are passe! Yess, you can always revert to the old transactions too.
7. The Data Warehousing Workbench replaces the Administrator Workbench.
8. Functional enhancements have been made for the DataStore object:
New type of DataStore object
Enhanced settings for performance optimization of DataStore objects.
9. The transformation replaces the transfer and update rules.
10. New authorization objects have been added
11. Remodeling of InfoProviders supports you in Information
Lifecycle Management.
12 The Data Source:
There is a new object concept for the Data Source.
Options for direct access to data have been enhanced.
From BI, remote activation of Data Sources is possible in SAP source systems.
13.There are functional changes to the Persistent Staging Area (PSA).
14.BI supports real-time data acquisition.
15 SAP BW is now known formally as BI (part of NetWeaver 2004s). It implements the Enterprise Data Warehousing (EDW). The new features/ Major differences include:
a) Renamed ODS as DataStore.
b) Inclusion of Write-optmized DataStore which does not have any change log and the requests do need any activation
c) Unification of Transfer and Update rules
d) Introduction of "end routine" and "Expert Routine"
e) Push of XML data into BI system (into PSA) without Service API or Delta Queue
f) Intoduction of BI accelerator that significantly improves the performance.
g) Load through PSA has become a must. I am not too sure about this. It looks like we would not have the option to bypass the PSA Yes,
16. Load through PSA has become a mandatory. You can't skip this, and also there is no IDoc transfer method in BI 7.0. DTP (Data Transfer Process) replaced the Transfer and Update rules. Also in the Transformation now we can do "Start Routine, Expert Routine and End Routine". during data load.
New features in BI 7 compared to earlier versions:
i. New data flow capabilities such as Data Transfer Process (DTP), Real time data Acquisition (RDA).
ii. Enhanced and Graphical transformation capabilities such as Drag and Relate options.
iii. One level of Transformation. This replaces the Transfer Rules and Update Rules
iv. Performance optimization includes new BI Accelerator feature.
v. User management (includes new concept for analysis authorizations) for more flexible BI end user authorizations.
Hope it helps..

  • Difference between SAP 7.0 and 7.1

    Hi,
We are working on NW2004 and NW2004s.
Recently SAP announced support for SAP 7.1
I wanted to know whats the major difference between SAP 7.0 and 7.1.
I did not get a good link which tells the difference.
Any link here would be very helpful.
    Best regards
    Manoj

Well the link above is only targeting NetWeaver CE 7.1 and that's no full coverage for the NW2004/2004s features. What I mean is that CE is not a successor of NW but kind of a side-product mostly intended for developing and running composite applications. You cannot upgrade from NW2004/2004s to CE since CE will not offer you the full NW2004/2004s functionality.
Besides CE there is only 7.1 version of PI/XI released. I beleive the full NetWeaver 7.1 will be released at some point of time but it's not the case yet.
    So:
If you're seeking for an upgrade of your NW2004/2004s NetWeaver systems you should wait for the next release of the full NetWeaver that will eventually be based on 7.1 (except for PI systems which already have a new 7.1 release).
If you want to have systems to develop on using the new cool features you can install some additional CE 7.1 server(s)

    Hi,
4.7 is based on SAP Web Application Server 6.30 whereas ECC 6.0 is based on SAP Netweaver 2004s (or Netweaver Application server 7.0).
Quite a lot of difference in the two.

    Dear Friends,
Please mail to me the differences between SAP R/3 ECC 6 & SAP R/3 4.6C in Material Material management module.
    With regards

    Hi Vasmi
There is lot of Diffenence Between ECC 6.0 & 4.6 C
1-in 4.6 C Country India Version(CIN) is add on Separatelly
while after 4.7 E up to ECC 6.0 CIN is integrated Part of SAP. that is the measure difference as per my knowledge
2-ECC 6.0 have more functionality in terms of transaction for example
if you do MIGO for PO then you can capture and post the excise invoice in the same transaction while in case of 4.6 C that feature is not available
these two are major as far as MM is concern
there are many others feature also
    Thanks

  • Differences between SAP PI 7.0 and PI 7.1

    Hi Everyone,
I have a requirement where i use webservices most. I feel PI 7.1 is good. Please suggest me.
Would anyone suggest which is the best. Is it PI 7.0 or PI 7.1
What are the major differences between the two ?
    Regards,
    Varun.

    Hi Varun,
New highlights for SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1 are:
Enterprise Services Repository as a central storage location for enterprise service definitions and lifecycle management data for all enterprise services
Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI) 3.0–compliant services registry for runtime management of enterprise services
Improved support for standards such as Web Service Reliable Messaging (WS-RM), WS Policy, Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML)
Extended support for high volume scenarios
Business Activity Monitoring for process definition of milestone monitoring (event correlation)
Improved SAP NetWeaver Administrator support for central configuration and administration of both mediated and point-to-point scenarios
    Further functional enhancements include:
    XML payload validation
Process editor modeling enhancements: step groups, integrated alert management, configurable parameters
Integration of human interaction (generic user decision)
    WS-BPEL 2.0 preview
The message server and the enqueue server can be separated from the central instance (CI) to the ABAP SAP Central Services Instance (ASCS) in the ABAP stack
    also (recommended)
In SAP NetWeaver 7.1 ,Only ASCS is supported
SAP has changed the signatures of the relevant Java classes,So in these cases the Java coding effort should only be "mere syntax check".
    1. PI 7.0 is the part of Netweaver 2004s and PI 7.1 is key entity in eSOA.
    2. PI 7.1 have various mapping Enhancements as well as reusability of UDFs across the mappings etc. which is not available in PI 7.0
    3. PI 7.1 comes with the concept of folders for more flexibale and Organized way of developements.
4.Advanced adapter engine is used in PI 7.1, which have overcome the various communication related limitations of previous versions
5.High Volume support in PI 7.1
SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1 (SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1)
You can use the ES Repository and Registry with SAP NetWeaver PI and take full advantage of the process integration capabilities of SAP NetWeaver. With the ES Repository, you can start modeling your business process and designing your interfaces, data types and mappings for the message exchange. The Integration Directory and Integration Server that are also available with SAP NetWeaver PI, enable you to configure and to run your business process in your individual system landscape.
SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment 7.1 (SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1)
SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment 7.1 offers full service provisioning capabilities, also for those who need to work with a lean development environment and do not focus on process integration. For those customers, the ES Repository and Registry offers capabilities for service provisioning and consumption

  • Key Configuration differences between SAP and ORACLE Financials

    Hello,
After spending good 7 years in SAP related projects recently I started working in ORACLE Applications. I used to be an ORACLE programmer years back. To my surprise the same <b><u>ORACLE Forms</u></b> are still very much the heart of the ORACLE UI.
Then I thought what will be the key differences between ORACLE and SAP in terms of configuration elements. While I know a bunch of configuraion items in SAP , I am not sure about the same in ORACLE world. I am not even sure some of the configuration items that are available in SAP exists in ORACLE.
Does anyone know both sides of the coin ? The terminology and design ?
    SAP has
Client,Company code, Business area, Functional Area, GL, Posting Key, Document Type.
I am trying to get the details of the equivalents of these in ORACLE.
    Does anyone know it ?
    For e.g , when you post to <b>AP</b> or <b>AR</b> in <b>SAP</b> , <b>GL</b> is updated  automatically. In <b>ORACLE</b> you post to a <b>AP Book</b> or <b>AR Book</b> then Run a batch to move them to <b><u>GL Book</u></b>.
ORACLE uses SQLLoader to load data . You can write a PL SQL and update the tables directly, which is not the case in SAP. For dataloads and conversions, SAP uses BDC's ( though XI can be used but its slow). For ORACLE its the good old SQL and PlSQL combo.
What are the equivalents of the configuration elements in ORACLE world ?
Also what are the major differences between these two in terms of designing a financial system.
    Does any one know ?

    Genie,
I agree that a case is made on how well these two ERPs solve the day to day tasks before a company chooses one of these two. But my question is aimed at finance to begin with. You are going to need a general ledger for any company or government regardless of ERP. And how well you can drive the ledger to map your business is the key here.
The way ledger is built is around a business area ,company or country and is very tighly designed in SAP. I would like to know if there is any equivalent of the configuration items in ORACLE. I am more interested in terminology of ORACLE.
    For example ,
    <u><b><u><b>SAP ====> ORACLE</b></u>
    <u><b>GL ==> Book In ORACLE</b></u>
    <b><u>Document Number ===> Invoice Number</u></b>
<b><u>Posting Period in SAP ==> Posting period In ORACLE</b></u></u></b>
Most of the terms are finance terms , so they are common ( eg. an account number is an account number in ORACLE and SAP ) between two systems. I am interested in any specific thing that is available in ORACLE but not in SAP and  vice verse.
thanks for the link you have provided.
    Its very useful.

  • Difference between SAP/APO/DP and the SAP/CRM solution for forecasting

    Hi,
Can you please help me identifying the main differences between SAP/APO/DP and the SAP/CRM solution for forecasting? Advantages and disadvantages?
    Thanks a lot

    Hi LCD777,
Forecasting at DP & CRM are altogether at different entities.  CRM involves webbased data transfer mechanism tool whereas DP is database/livecache driven tool.
In CRM, you dont get optimised solution of forecasting out of it whereas in DP you can get as much as
optimised solution & flexibility as per your requirements.
DP is majorly a forecasting tool where in huge statistical method functionalities are embedded in
whereas CRM is majorly a transactional tool wherein it involves gathering of forecast data and executing it.
Typically, CRM will be integrated with DP containing GATP environment & ECC so that DP will plan for forecast data, ECC system drives sales order data & GATP calls for availability check and finally
the forecast execution& transactions will be controlled by CRM

  • Major Differences Between IP& BCS & BPC

    Dear Experts,
Could you please help me what are the major differences between IP (Integrated planning) ,BCS(Business Consolidation)  and BPC(Business Planning and Consolidation).

    Edited by: srinivasan.singari on May 19, 2011 10:08 AM

    Hi Srinivasan,
As mentioned above, BPC as consolidation as well planning both. you need not go for separate tool for both of them.
BPC is an Account-based model whereas IP is KeyFigure-based model.
    BPC has following added functionalities:
    1.     BPC has highly flexible and customized Input Schedules and Reports which IP doesnu2019t have.
    2.     Business Process Flows.
    3.     Work Status is present.
    4.     Audit trail.
For a detailed study on BPC, you can refer the following links:
