Major dropping out problems!

I have been experiencing wireless drop outs on my macbook. I have tried resetting the router/modem, and anything else I could find on this site.
I am constantly having the "reset by peer" or "connection reset" messages. These happen if I am trying to download updates from apple, iTunes, or something from my email.
The problem existed before/after I updated to 10.5.3
Is there anyone who knows a fix to this? I had no problems in the past. And others on my network seem to have no problems.
Thanks.

I've never had this problem myself, but it's not uncommon.

  • AirTunes with AirportExpress cut or drop out problems - my solution...

I buyed 2 of the Airport Extreme one month ago (Firmware 6.3, Itunes 7.1.1), never got them working fine, till yesterday...
I have A Zyxel ADSL WLAN Router Switch. WPA-PSK as I wanted a secure Network. Both of the AX were connected with static IPs. WLAN was always working fine, but I had many cut outs with airtunes. I wanted a solution with lossles streaming audio with the possibility to connect my Receiver digitally. That's why I bought my first Apple hardware, as I was always told, Apple=Plug'n play. Very frustrating!
I tried other switches, Routers, WLAN adapters and cards, nothing worked. Airfoil does not support multiple speakers yet, so it's useless for me.
In the FAQ of the Airtunes, Apple mentioned to use lower security, as some Computers probably do not have enough power to stream music flawlessly. But my Computers really do have enough power! I think the AX does not have enough power to do that. So I created another wireless network with one of my AX. I set the security to WEP-40bit key and joined this new Network with my other AX. Not the best solution, as I'm now connected to the Internet or to the AX to use Airtunes. Cables could fix that problem, but then I could use a wired system instead...
I use Channel 11 for the AX WLAN (the only clean channel in my area), Multicast to 11, only G mode for Wireless and a 5 characters WEP-40 key and no WDS. Seems to work at the moment.
I hope this will help others with the cut or drop out problem. If you have a working AirTunes system, please post your setup. Mostly I'm interested in a Setup with working WPA...

Thanks, I hope I can help others with this annoying problem...
Sorry, I forgot to write about the RF Interference. Belive me, I spent hours and hours searching for a solution in the Internet and every checkbox the Admin utility offered me to try out... I'm working as a system engineer, and supporting computer systems since the early 90ties, so I'd say I have a bit knowledge about all the networking, WLAN, Audio... In school we had the Apple Mac I with the 12" monochrome monitor and appletalk for networking quite funny!
But back to the RF interference: At the moment I activated it on both AX I own. I have a microwave, wireless phone and I'm living in a Area with many WLAN access points. I can choose between 6 networks!
I'm the only one with a network higher than channel 6, so this area is clean at least.
As my AirTunes do work at the moment, I'm not going to try if I could also deactivate it.
Next step is to try if I can connect the AX Router to the internet. A connection to my ADSL router should do that, but up to now I had very strange behavior when plugging in a ethernet cable to the AX. If this will work, it will be my final solution, at the moment I only see it as a workaround...

  • IP address and drop out problems

    Hi,
I had infinity installed into my home in May and have usually found it very good.  I mainly run 3 machines on the system plus smart phones sometimes.  My main laptop is rather new and runs Windows 7 and has no problems at all.  Along with that i run an Ipad which is increasingly dropping out of connection but usually only short time.  I also run an older laptop with Windows XP.  It has had connection problems all along linked with IP address but now fails to get an IP address at all.  I have tried deleting my wireless code and re-entering it but still no fix.  I should also say that all of these devices are connected wirelessly.  I have also tried connecting the XP machine via a cable but this did not help.

Please take a look at the wireless help on the website below.

  • Why Apple isn't acknowledging the wireless drop out problem on iMacs?

    Hey everyone
I've been having constant wireless drop out on my iMac while all other computers at home work perfectly.
I've noticed I am not the only one who is having this problem and it seems to be a software/ upgrade problem that Apple needs to get fixed.
Anyone knows any progress on this topic?

Unfortunately you simply can't say that this is a general problem. Or, rather, you can, but you won't be taken seriously. Some of us (me, for example) have several Macs, including several iMacs, and simply do not see your problem with any of them. It may be a problem linked to the specific model. It may be a problem linked to a specific batch. It may be a problem linked to specific 3rd-party software. It may be linked to any of several other mutually incompatible factors. What it definitely is NOT is a general problem.
Those who have it need to provide further data _to Apple_ using the feedback system so that the actual cause of the problem can be identified and a fixe set up.
Insisting that it is a general problem when it quite clearly is not will tend to get you ignored.
Which precise model of iMac are you using? There are several different 24" Intel iMacs; which one is yours? When was it built? Where was it built? (You can tell this by looking at the serial number.) Are you running any 3rd-party haxies? What stuff are you running? Does any of it launch at startup? What make and model wireless router are you connecting to? How are you connecting to it, using 'G' or 'N'? Is your connection encrypted, and if so, using WEP (bad) or WPA (better)? Are you broadcasting SSID? How close are you to the wireless device? Is there something in the way, such as a wall or a floor? What are the walls/floor made of? Are you using other devices which access the same general radio band (you do know that wireless systems are radios, don't you?) such as wireless landline phones, or microwaves, or some cell phones, or baby monitors? Are there other wireless systems in your immediate neighborhood, and what channels are they broadcasting on? What channel is your wireless router broadcasting on?
Are you beginning to see the number of possible reasons for your problem?

  • Wireless drop out problems - usual stuff

Hi,  I  am new to this forum and have used some of your suggestions to help me.. so thanks everyone....however
we still have problems and we are now getting pretty fed up.
I am not technical so bear with me..
We have 2 wireless lap tops and 1 pc connected to our Home Hub 1.0  another pc is connected by ethernet cable.
Over months now the wireless connection has dropped and, at worst, has taken hours of fiddling, resetting of the Home Hub to work.   Occasionally even sitting directly in front of the home hub, my laptop and the HH cannot find each other.  The wierd thing is that whilst I can't get my own connection working I could (until I opted out) get BT Fon and Openzone also looks available when I can't get any connection.  Since it looks like it is also be shared from my broadband I am not happy.
I have changed the channel a couple of times from the 1 setting it was on to 11 (problems again) to 6 now (too early to tell).   Is there anything more I can do?   (Can't move the HH from front of the house and it is on a shelf not the floor).   The fix is usually for a short time however.  I have talked to the Help Desk and they have tested the line and told me to move the Hub to the centre of the house, which is simply not possible owing to telephone sockets ets.
Would some sort of wireless repeater help, in which case - which one would be compatible with HH1?   Is Openzone and BTFon 'stealing' connectivity in some way.
Thanks for your thoughts in anticipation.  Epona.

Are your wireless card drivers up to date?

  • Time Capsule internet drop-out problem.... Solved (for now....?)

I am new here, but i would like to share my experiences with a problem a lot of people seem to have here aswell.
I got home last week after being abroad for work for two days, and noticed i couldn't get on the internet again. My system uses an iMac, TC and an internet modem i got from my ISP, which is a Motorola modem.
Hooked the TC up to the modem via ethernet and this has been working without a glich for about 2 years now. I first noticed the problem on my iPhone which was unable to get on the internet. Connected to the network just fine, but no internet. Very strange, as i had a solid green light on my TC.
Checked the internet on my iMac, and i found the same problem. Did a reset on the TC and the modem, and things seemed to be ok again. But.... after about 20mins. internet was not working any more again. By now i was getting rather frustrated, because in the AirPort Utility it said everything was working the way it should, including a solid green light on the TC.
Been going over everything i could think off. Soft reset, hard reset, going back to factory settings, resetting the modem. Just resetting the modem, just resetting the TC, resetting both at te same time. Nothing seemed to work, the problem kept coming back! Downgraded the software on the TC, upgraded again. Nothing.
Strange thing was, i hooked up my computer via ethernet directly to the cable-modem and internet was just fine, so no problem there, which was confirmed when i called my ISP (which is great... as long as there is no problem)
After 3 days i finally called Apple, and they were ok to help me. For free just for once (next time i will have to pay 49euros!!) and told him about my problem. He gave me all suggestions i already tried, except changing channels on the TC.
After the call i tried doing that, going from channel 1 to 6, but still... after 20 - 30 mins. internet would drop.
But.... i put it on channel 7 and for now it is working great again. (no loss of internet for about 36hours!!)
This seems to be THE solution for my problem. Apparently, one of my neighbours put up a device which was interfering with the signal of my TC, which caused all my problems!
For now i am really happy everything is back, up and running and i thought i just let you all know about my problems, and solution, because this forum has been a great help!
And... before i forget.... i am running firmware 7.3.2 now... because i read a lot of problems about 7.4.1 and things are running great for me now !!
Hope this little story can help someone else..... try change the channels TC is working on !!
    Good luck to you all!

  • Help needed for strange signal drop out problem

My iphone 3G does this odd thing -
The phone will show a strong 3G signal until I open an app that uses data, or try to make a call. Then the signal suddenly vanishes and the connection fails. If I wait 10 seconds it comes back and it's fine. Also it seems I am missing calls while the phone is locked.
When I disable 3G under the network settings the problem seems to go away.
Has anyone one else had similar issues or been able to solve the problem?
    Many thanks.
    Luke

I have the samme issue ever since 3.x software came out. HAvent been able to use 3G since and have been operating on Edge without issues. Very dissapointing as its definitely a software problem and been going on for ages...even the newest update 3.1.3 hasnt fixed it...

  • Air Port Express Audio drop Out Problem

Hi I have just brought an Air Port Express home and spent the evening setting it up which went relatively smoothly, but once tested using the Optical out into an Musical Fidelity V3 X Dac (Digital to Analog Converter) the sound persistently jitters making music unlistenable, using conventional 3.5mm stereo jack output works fine it only seems to be on the optical.
Have read as much as I can find of use on the net but it seems either the optical out is faulty or incompatible with this DAC or some people have mentioned it might be the latest version of I tunes all my soft-wear is up to date.
Does anyone have a solution or should I return it or will anyone at Apple no what I`m talking about in the shop I got the impression they didn`t know anything about the Optical out.
    Any Help greatfully recieved.

You will need to try several different optical cables as they vary tremendously in their signal integrity. It is not unusual to see two identical cables from the same manufacturer perform very differently. Check out the store's return policy and try several different cables to see if you can find the right combination.

  • Tape drop outs causing capture problems

I have just discovered my Sony DVCAM tape has major drop outs but I still need to capture the video recorded on it. Is there any way to set the capture tool to ignore the drop outs and capture through them so I can fine tune my interviews in the editing process rather than the capture process?

In User Preferences, General Tab, set to 'Warn after Capture' in the setting for 'On Timecode Break'

  • ITunes Radio drops out

My iTunes often cuts out (abrupt interruptions in music stream), especially the radio portion. I just updated from a PowerBook G4 to a Macbook. i use a linysys cable modem and an airport extreme base station and connect to my stereo through airport express. i have seen others talk about the drop out problem. does anyone have a good solution?

Radio streams can drop out for a myriad of reasons, only a few of which are under your control. For example, the server sending out the stream is overloaded.
On your end of things you can try a couple different settings in QuickTime and in iTunes.
First, in QuickTime, make sure the Streaming speed setting matches or is one step SLOWER than the actual connection speed offered by your ISP. Restart iTunes and see how it performs.
In addition, iTunes has one setting that can affect streaming performance. My best recommendation is try each of the settings separately and see which works best for your system. The setting is in Preferences -> Advanced -> General -> Steaming Buffer Size

  • Audio drops out for a second at the start of the song

I have an 8gb Black Nano 3g. My first time syncing I added songs, video, and photos.
The problem I am having is after selecting a song through cover flow the song will start playing and around the 17 second mark in the song the audio drops for a second then it comes back on and continues playing. At first I thought it was the song file, but it was happening to multiple songs. I also verified the tracks on my computer were fine.
I updated the firmware and Restored the iPod software.
Since my iPod had all of my media wiped out I added back only music and tested it. It worked perfectly, no more audio drops. I listened to it all day just fine. Last night I added some new video clips and photos. Audio drop out problem has now returned.
After work I am going to remove the video files and test it again.
Has anyone else noticed this issue?

Yes I have the same problem, actually I'm guessing everyone has the same issue but everyone hasn't realized yet. Problem occurs just after the the backlight turns off.
After many hours of troubleshooting, I realized the cause is syncing photos.
Tried resetting iPod & and restoring many times, tried different computers (with different new test iTunes/iPhoto libraries), problem occurs with both iLife 2006 & iLife 2008.
Took back to Apple Ginza store in Tokyo for testing and a different iPod nano 8GB 3G has the same issue. Staff believed it was a firmware issue and filed a report. A few days later 1.0.1 firmware was released but still didn't fix the issue.
I have yet to file a bug report with Apple myself.
My screen also seems to be rotated about 1mm.

  • Very Brief Audio Drop Out in Sequence

In one particular part of my sequence, I'm experiencing a very brief audio drop out (which effects the entire audio) timeline. For example, I have a clip of a car starting and revving up. Two seconds into that clip, ALL audio drops out for a frame or two and then comes back in again. It sounds like everything in the audio timeline was cut and moved down a few frames (and the playhead is passing over that gap).
At first I thought it was my media clip so I switched it out by deleting it from my bin and capture folder. I recaptured it and used it again. Same thing. As an experiment, I then tried placing some other audio (from another clip) in that same area of the timeline to see if it happened there too. It did. I then made a new sequence and copied and pasted the affected audio and video it in there. Same thing. I never mixed down audio but saw that this was a suggestion on the forums. I tried that but it was still happening.
By the way, when the audio cuts out, ALL TRACKS cut out, so it's just not limited to a certain clip in a certain track.
Would anyone be able to shed some light on this? Is anyone else experiencing this?
    Thanks everyone!

_*(SORRY, I DIDN'T MEAN TO POST THIS TWICE) Didn't think the last response went through_.*
Thanks, David. That solution sounds interesting and I'm going to give it a try. I appreciate your quick response, too.
I went back and tried something else, too.
By going to VIEW > EXTERNAL VIDEO > and choosing OFF, I was able to solve the drop out problem. I don't know HOW or even WHY this happened but it seems I can narrow my investigation to my exterior monitor and stereo or my audio/ video card or the actual firewire 800 cable running between the two. I always edit with an external monitor so I've got to jump on this issue quick.
When I turned external viewing back ON again, I got some very weird, garbled audio and static. Turning it off solved the problem. Do you think my video or sound card are going belly up? I have the stock card on my Mac (NVIDIA GT 120).

  • Drop-outs with Airport streaming iTunes

    hello all and merry Christmas
I am streaming music to two Airport Express from a hard drive mounted to an Airport Extreme base station. I have the latest versions of firmware and iTunes. iTunes will randomly drop-out and it's driving me batty.
I know it's not a network related issue (ie .... interference from other networks or phones) as I can stream the Expresses using Airfoil without drop outs. The problem only occurs with iTunes 8 as it didn't occur in version 7. I've searched for comments and read as many threads on these boards as I could find but haven't found the solution.
I have based my entire music system on the basis of streaming as described above.
    Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts,
    Warren

I have recently installed 2 airport expresses, and use them with a wire router from Thomson (SpeedTouch). I have had a number of these drop-out problems, and discovered that there is a lot that can cause network interference. After checking a number of things these problems have now been significantly reduced:
    1. Make sure that multicasting is on on the wireless router. Since I don't have an Apple Airport base station, I needed to find the setting for this in my SpeedTouch setup, which was off by default.
    2. Set the network to operate on a channel not used by any nearby networks. I live in an apartment building where nearly everyone has a wireless network. Using the iStumbler app I could determine which channels other networks were using, and pick one that wasn't in use.
Of course, interference can also be caused by nearby power transformers, phones, etc. In my case my microwave cuts out my Airport Express, but that I can live with.
To test the reliability of the streaming to Airport Expresses, try the following:
    1. Find the Airport Express IP number in the Airport Utility
    2. Open up Terminal
    3. Type "ping <ip-address>"
    4. Let it run for a nice long time, then type cntl-C
    5. You will now see in the text in the terminal screen the % of data lost. If this is high then you need to continue troubleshooting your network.
Hope this helps somebody .. I have a frustrating time figuring it out for myself.

  • Acer one w/ atheros chip drops out on "heavy" load

I've got a Acer Aspire One (model zg5) which has a AR5BXB63 chip and I'm running the ath5k driver. The connection constantly drops out when there's "heavy load", and by that I mean simple stuff as updating packages etc. I've tried swapping the ath5k driver with the older ath_pci, but that doesn't seem to work. It sets up the wifi0 device and the ath0 interface, but it's not possible to scan for accesspoints. Though I do remember that when I ran Ubuntu 8.04 (or maybe it was 8.10) about one year ago, I was able to use the ath_pci driver - which did fix the drop out problem.
I hope somebody can help me
I'm starting to get really frustrated over this.. I'm kinda sick and tired of having to constantly reconnect when updating the system or downloading something.

I found another thread on this subject, though there where no native soloutions, there was the ndiswrapper soloution and that seems to work just fine for me, so I'll use that for now. But if anybody has a soloution that does not include ndiswrapper I would be grateful

  • Itunes 7.0.1 streaming radio and airtunes stutters/ drops out

    Hi there,
With both the upgrade? to 7 and 7.0.1 there is suttering and dropping out of audio when listening to streaming radio thru airtunes. The problem doesn't exist when using realplayer and airfoil accessing the airport express. I know others have experienced this. I thought it would be fixed with this upgrade. Do you think it will be fixed anytime soon?
    thanks,
    rwa

I'm also having the stuttering / dropping out problem.
It seems to me that the latest iTunes (7.0.1) and AE have trouble keeping in sync.
Selecting 'Multiple Speakers' does fix the problem for me, though it's annoying to do that in some situations.
I use AirTunes over both wired (100mbit) and 802.11g conntections, using several computers (a 733mhz G4, powerbook, and macbook). I get the same problem with dropouts / buffering on ALL of them. It's definitely iTunes.
