Major Finder Problem for Quicktime Files

Hey all,
I have noticed a horrible bug in Finder for Sprited Quicktime files.
Some background. Some files I download have web 'popups' in the Quicktime file as a marketing campaign. We put a link inside the Quicktime file (you can do so in GoLive) so when it is opened to the end a web link pops up.
However, Leopard has introduced a bug where if you open a folder that even HAS one of these sprited Quicktime files, it will open my browser and go to the link inside the Quicktime file, even though I did even open the file.
I know this bug does not effect everyone, but it is a serious bug in the software.

dude. gotta watch where you download your pornoze!
heh
thx for the heads up. havent noticed that yet here. i wonder if this bug is because of quick look...

  • Thumbnails For QuickTime Files In Windows XP?

Windows XP shows thumbnail previews of video files in Windows Explorer. However, it doesn't show thumbnails for QuickTime files. Does anyone know why this is? Does Windows Vista also share this problem? Is there a way to add this feature to Windows XP?

One other thing to explore - do these particular files begin with Black Video?
    Good luck,

  • Major Finder Issues (Also Quicktime, Itunes, Spotlight not working)- Please

I have a lot of problems, but I posted in this forum b/c I'm figuring if I can get the finder back I may be able to resolve the other issues.
Here is the situation. I'm running OSX Tiger on a Core2Duo Mac. A few days ago I did a mac upgrade that upgraded Quicktime. Unfortunately, that caused Quicktime to stop streaming a site I use for school. I was getting video but no sound. Quicktime streamed other sites just fine. I came to this website and saw others having this problem. Don't remember exactly what thread I read, but a few threads convinced me that I could uninstall Quicktime and get the old version which had worked for me. I dl'ed Tinker Tool to erase all files with the name quicktime in them (simply dragging Quicktime to the trashbin proved fruitless), including those in the system folder. When I tried to remove the trash it said some quicktime files were in use. So I restarted the comp to kill whatever background programs could have been running. When it restarts, I have no finder. The trash is still full, but I can't delete anything. I can't activate anything in the dock. I click on the icons and they just jump around. All my desktop items are missing. I couldn't even get online b/c firefox wouldn't activate and I don't keep Safari in the dock b/c I prefer Firefox.
I ran disk repair and repair permissions. Nothing changed. I added a new user account and this is how I was able to get online. Although all the problems I mentioned still exist, this account has Safari in the dock and the program opened so here I am online. So far the only programs I can open from the dock are dashboard, mail, addressbook, system preferences, and safari.
I'm guessing I deleted something that was vital to the system. But all I deleted were files with quicktime in the title.
I've tried to reinstall quicktime, but it says I can't b/c there is a newer version already on the drive. But, this version is not really there b/c I cannot stream or use sites that require Quicktime.
Of course, I would just re-install OS if I had backed-up my data, but I'm between external HDs right now.
Can't get access to the Genius Bar until tomorrow and I really need my comp in its full capacity asap. Any help would be appreciated.

    You are welcome, Anita.
I relate to the economics - I was a student myself (1000 years ago...well, maybe a little less).
When you do get an external HD (I bought my last one for under a $100 on the Apple on-line store), take a look at a little program called SuperDuper ($28 at www.shirt-pocket.com). SD makes bootable clones - pretty fast after the first one. I have no installed OS X 10.5, so I have not had a chance to look at Apple's built-in backup feature.

  • Problems with QuickTime file...

I have recently tried updating iTunes, but during installation, it told me that there's a problem, and that it needed QuickTime. QuickTime was already installed, so I uninstalled it, downloaded the standalone setup file, and proceeded to install QuickTime again. During installation, it tells me that there's an error, and that it can't find "C:\documents and settings\[username]\local settings\temp\ixp424.tmp\quicktime.msi". I don't have any QuickTime files on my computer, and the iTunes installer won't work either, as QuickTime refuses to install... Can someone please help?

thanks tom. i am refering to render bar in the timeline, upper for video and lower for audio. May be i shoud describe them as white line gaps between dark grey or steel grey bar color.
what do you mean by down mixing? please advise

  • How to remove or disable "Finder Preview" for a file type?

I have some large .hdr files which are large image files, and cause PathFinder (but I guess the issue is not really Finder or PathFinder but the preview app being called in Preview feature) to beachball forever. The problem is the calculation of image size and thumbnail display when either clicking on the .hdr image file (which brings in preview) or ctrl-clicking on the file which kicks off image size calculation for contextual menu in PathFinder (confirmed by PathFinder support). While I can get around ctrl-clicking until this issue is fixed, there is no walking around preview feature for thumbnail viewing unless I tell Preview not to consider .hdr files as image files (while still being able to view thumbnails of other image formats such as jpg and tif, which is what I will like to do).
Those .hdr files are not valid Photoshop radiance files. They are generated by Photomatix (www.hdrsoft.com). So, Preview seems to be having issues with it. Whenever I click on a large file (no problem with an empty file labeled with .hdr extension), PathFinder memory shoots from 50+MB to 500+MB and it beachballs forever until I kill it.
So, I will like to tell Preview not to consider .hdr files as image files. Pointers on how to do this will be appreciated. I am guessing that Preview.app is being called by Finder (same thing should apply to PathFinder) to calculate image sizes and render thumbnails. Please correct me if I am wrong about it.

You can turn off the preview column in Finder's Show View Options. I don't know if this will help with your problem. Also, I 'think' if you use a program to create a preview icon for the file (assuming it supports that format) the Finder will use that. It sounds like you want to keep icon preview selected, so I don't think there is a way to conditionally show the previews. You can also set Finder's PreviewDisclosureState to 0, which hides the preview icon--it controls the disclosure triangle in the preview column. Again, I don't know how this will affect what you want.

  • Mac Finder previews for .AI files not working

    [I'm using fully updated OS X 10.8.5, using Illustrator CS6 16.0.4]
In the Finder, all my .AI files show up only as a generic AI file icon. Trying to Preview the files in the Finder also only show the generic icon.
I've tracked down the QuickLook Generator locations, and found that I've got a generator named "illust.qlgenerator". But when I run in the Terminal.app this command: "qlmanage -t <ai file>" tells me this:
    [WARNING] Plug-in at file://localhost/Library/QuickLook/illust.qlgenerator/ is 32bit
[ERROR] Can't load plug-in at file://localhost/Library/QuickLook/illust.qlgenerator/: The bundle “PDF” couldn’t be loaded because it doesn’t contain a version for the current architecture.
That Quick Look Generator is only 32-bit, which seems to be causing problems.
When I moved it to a different folder to disable it, then the native PDF.qlgenerator takes over, and puts the obnoxious grid behind the previews.
Problems with the OS X PDF QuickLook generator:
Obnoxious grid behind the actual content instead of resizing to maximize the thumbnail
Native .AI files saved without PDF compatibility show no preview, just "This is an AI file without PDF content"
To get the preview, saving with PDF compatibility would double the file size. Double.
And I still get the grid.
Is there a native Illustrator QuickLook Generator? I don't want to uninstall and reinstall CS6 just to find there's no difference. Does CS6 install any better previews than I'm getting? Another Mac user with the same setup shows beautiful full-color previews of the same AI sample files without requiring PDF compatibility or the obnoxious grid.
    Thanks
    Darryl Z

    Hi Monika,
Unfortunately, I neglected to mention that because I work with very large illustrations with many layers, paths and nested symbols the PDF preview is not very fast.
I prefer not to save a complete pdf inside my AI files because it multiplies the file size which I find slows the cloud synchronisation of the very large files I work on.
A quick raster preview would be the most performant option, lazy loading any available pdf or ai render if the item was enlarged.
    Thanks,
    Luke

  • Problem embedding quicktime files

    Hi,
I run a website with embedded quicktime files at www.tubespot.com. I have a problem viewing the quicktime files using Safari. The page seems to work fine on any other web browser.
I copied the code for the <object> tag and the <embed> tag straight from trailers.apple.com. And in Safari, if I refresh several times, eventually it will show the video. This is true on any of several macs running Panther and Tiger.
Also, when I put forth just the <object> tag it works every time. But in the context of my site, it often doesn't show up. I've tried playing with the tag specs to make sure there's way more than enough room, etc., but I cannot seem to make it consistently show up.
Can anyone look at the code and offer any insight to the problem? Is anyone able to reliably see the videos using Safari?
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • ODBC Problem for MSAccess file as Source data extraction

<p><span class="postbody">Hi,</span></p><p><span class="postbody"><br />Please dont ignore this posting. Please try to help in providing relevent solution to my problem. <br />I believe, my previous posting didnot convey you. Let me explain my problem to you. <br />I have MSAccess database file(.mdb) to process. I am able to process for 1(One) file. I am testing for multiple files submission. As the ODBC points on the file1 and when i need to submit file2, its not allowing me to do a sql query. says, &#39;Database access Error&#39;. <br />I am trying to work on usual way, that is, moving file from Incoming to Processing folder where the processing folder holds the ODBC pointer on the file, here the file cannot be deleted as the job going to fail. For this reason, i am replacing the file which is under Processing folder and trying to access the file same time, but it fails with the &#39;Database access Error&#39;. <br /><br />I have tired using DI exec() for replacing file and also tired using the batch script. <br />Here i find the DI is one step behind using the batch script. When i use Batch script it replaces the file in Processing folder and fails with above error but when i use the DI exec() and pass the parameters to Replace file from incoming folder to Processing folder, the job does&#39;t support Replace command, instead it starts processing the existing file(ODBC pointer file). <br />I think DI has peculiar problem in this situation. Please advice and show the way how i can fix this. <br /></span></p>

How can the ODBC driver still hold a handle on the previous file if the dataflow stopped and hence its process stopped. Can you try with a different application, e.g. excel to do the same manually just to figure it is not a problem of the ODBC driver itself?

  • Why can't I see the Finder thumbnails for .mov files with alpha channels?

Ever since I upgraded to Mavericks I haven't been able to see the thumbnail for or preview using spacebar any .MOV clips that contain alpha channels in Finder. PSDs and PNGs with alpha channels are fine, and I can still see their thumbnails and previews, it's just .MOV clips with alpha. Here are a couple screenshots:
Most of these clips are using a PNG codec, but I converted on to the Animation codec and tested it in After Effects to make sure it kept the alpha channel and it did, but the same thumbnail error persists.
Any idea why this might be or how to fix it?

ok, have copied the photos again from the memory card and hey presto, it all works fine.  So in summary...for RW2 files from GF1 camera, I have no thumbnail images, couldn't view in Preview, and neither Quickview nor Coverview were working.  Ran the bit of code provided at "https://discussions.apple.com/message/18369759#18369759" (thanks to Snoop Dogg) and then recopied the photos onto my Mac (only required for photos copied since upgrading to Lion, everything from before the upgrade is fine anyway).
    Hope others find this helpful.

  • Is there a maximum file size for Quicktime files?

I am trying to make a Quicktime file of 40 gig size, but it keeps failing

in case you're exporting to a fat32-formatted media, those have a 4GB-per-file limitation...
    but QT? No, no limits.

  • Problem viewing Quicktime files after export

So a few months ago, I finished a number of projects in Final Cut Express.  I exported them as self-contained .mov files and kept those files in their own folder.  Today, I try to open/play those Quicktime files, Quicktime opens and says "loading video", and only audio plays.  No video.  Weird.
What I want to do is upload these videos to YouTube, so I opened MPEG Streamclip in an attempt to transfer these apparently corrupt files into a .mp4 format.  When I drag and drop the Quicktime files into MPEG Streamclip (the title of the first .mov file I tried is "1 Naitram On the Road to Syndicate"), I get this: "The movie file "1 Naitram On- FIN - 00000002 cannot be found.  Without this file, the movie cannot play properly".
When I first exported these projects into .mov files a few months back, I was able to watch them in Quicktime.  Now, I cannot.  Why would this be?  Can a file just corrupt like that over time?  Are these files beyond saving?  Thanks..

    Thanks Al..
The files originally used were imported from my Canon Vixia HF G10; I guess you would call them AVCHD files?  Anyways, when the files were imported, a scratch disc folder as well as a Render Files folder was created.  I arranged the imported clips in my sequence to make a two minute long videos, then exported as self-contained movie files.  Would having tampered with or deleted these Render Files even AFTER exporting have corrupted the QuickTime file?  ....because I may have done that..

  • Problems with Quicktime files

    Hi everybody,
I have a huge problem with the quicktime. Some week ago I wanted to download the last version of QTime.

problem is, that my web cam doesn't work and also doesn't work when I want to use processing with the webcam, and I need it
for a project that I am doing.
What I need to install in my computer to restore it?
Which libraries for the mac I need?
If anybody can help me I really appreciate it.
    Thanks for your time

  • Newspaper layouts cause major usability problems for your website

Think about what happens if a [Web Development|http://www.intellixmedia.com/web-development.htm] page is laid out in a newspaper-type multiple column format. How would visitors read that page? There will be this thin strip of text going down the page. To read it, they will have to scroll down with the browser to read that narrow strip. When they reach the bottom, they will have to scroll upwards again to find the next column to continue reading that same story. And so on. Back and forth, and up and down. In the meantime the rest of the space that they have in their huge monitor is wasted - they cannot use it to speed up their reading because at any one time, only one narrow column is relevant. The frustration and irritation caused by that kind of page will probably rival the annoyance caused by the webmaster mistakes listed in my satirical Seven Ways to Annoy Visitors to Your Website. In reality though, many visitors to such a website probably won't even bother to read the page. Why suffer the punishment when the competition is just a click away? (Bear with me in this section. It may not look relevant to the main topic, but I want to try to address one of the root causes of low-usability sites as a site with a newspaper layout would have been.) Many new web designers want their website to look unique. They want their site to look special and memorable. As such, they have a tendency to come up with all sorts of interesting things to do with their site, including this newspaper layout idea, so that it does not look like every other site on the Internet. Unfortunately, in so doing, as discussed before in my article on Appearance, Usability and Search Engine Visibility in Web Design, they may sometimes inadvertently create websites that cause usability problems as well as search engine indexing issues. Recall the (not so) early days of home desktop computing, when many people used an operating system called MS-DOS. Contrary to what you may think, not all programs that ran on DOS were command-line programs. There were full-screen or windowed programs like the ones you see on Windows and the Mac today. However, the task of learning to use new programs on DOS was not as easy as it is to use a new program on modern operating systems. Every program had their own way of doing things. For example, to save a file, different programs had different keystrokes and menus to accomplish the same task. With modern operating systems, companies like Microsoft and Apple have clearly-defined "Human Inteface Guidelines" for programmers to follow. As a result, the interface of just about every program on your computer is fairly similar. For example, to save a file in Windows, no matter what program you are using, you can simply use the "File" menu and the "Save" item on that menu. Or hit Ctrl+S. Or click the icon that looks like a floppy disk on the toolbar. The standardisation of the interface means that anyone who has learnt how to use one program will also know how to use another. You no longer have to read the manual. After installing a new program, most people can simply grope around and still be able to accomplish their task.
Web design is pretty much the same way. Although there is no overarching organisation to give a user interface guideline to specify that websites are to work a certain way, there are millions (or more) of websites on the Internet that more or less behave the same manner. By their existence and similarity alone, these existing websites have established a de facto standard. Users who know how to navigate a site with one of those standard design styles will also know how to navigate other sites with the same way of doing things. In other words, you don't have to be a web guru or a usability master to create a usable website any more. Just use the trick of following the standard pattern used by other sites - a one, two or three column website with navigation menus in the usual places (top, bottom, left or right), and the main content flowing downwards in the centre, links that work like normal links, and so on. (See my articles on usability if you want more information.) By making your site operate in a standard way, visitors will automatically find your site usable, because they've already learnt it from their past experience with other sites.

I have the same problem, as I can not log into my iCloud via Preference Pane since I changed my password which is verified correct.  Keeps saying "Can not login at this time.  Try to login again."  Or just give the busy signal and eventually no connection.
I looked for the "Networkinterfaces.plist" entry but there is none.  Any other potential solutions would be highly appreciated.
Apple refuses to help unless I pay $49 for their mistake.
