Major GeForce4:ti4600 problem

Hey everyone, I just bought the MSI Geforce4:ti4600 "champion Edition" video card and i have a huge problem. I uninstalled the drivers from the old video card i was using. and shutdown to install the new card. i installed it and boot up. when i got to the windows 2k screen i get alot of nasty artifact blocks with static going through some of them. i've read through a few threads about this problem but no one seemed to know the answer to the problem.
after i installed the drivers i figured it would be fine after that. was i wrong. it still gave me the same nasty blocks everywhere and it would not even go past the windows 2k start up screen. it would just give me a blue screen of death very quickly and restart. i looked in the BIOS to see if everything was fine and it was. here are my system specs: Abit KG7 mobo
       AMD Athlon XP2000+
       256mb 2100DDR micron ram
       sound blaster x-gamer 5.1
       10/100tb nic
       windows 2k sp4
       350W PSU
       +3.3V 14A
       +5V
       +12V
       +5VSB
hope you guys can help, thanks!

Well i just bought a new PSU for my PC and I'm still having the same problems with the video card. X(  I think it's time to call MSI for an RMA. this sucks. i was hoping i would not have to do that. now i have to wait til after i move out next week to replace the card. this is my first time upgrading my vid card in over 2 years and i end up with a lemon. :(
well here are the new PSU specs.

  • Problem with Geforce4 Ti4600 AGP4X

well I tried searching the forums but I couldn't find a thread that pertained to my problem :/, so: I have the MSI Geforce4-Ti4600 AGP4X card, but when I use it I see lines running down my monitor. The picture is still there (sometimes), but there are vivid lines of color that run vertically on the screen maybe a centimeter wide. So right now I'm using my GF2 ULTRA, but I was thinking that if I couldn't get any help on here I'd go ahead and return the card on warranty...and by the way could someone explain to me how that works? Thanks for any help.
    -Josh

First, make shure you have a good and strong power supply. GeForce 4 tends to draw a lot of power. Adding two 1 GHz CPUs, although Intel P-III, doesn't make the burden easier...  I wouldn't go for anything less than 300 W, and preferably 340 W or even more. Also be aware that not all so called 300 W PSU's are equally strong. Chieftec makes good PSU's, I would probably recomend their 340 W for this system, unless you have many hard disks or CD's, in which case I would choose an even more powerful PSU.
If possible, you should also test the graphics card in another computer, just make shure the PSU is strong enough for the GF4.
    Best regards

  • Problems booting into OS 9.1 after upgrading to Geforce4 Ti4600

    Help!
I still use a older g4 mac to work with several older legacy hardware products such as 12x9 Walcom Tablet, Kodak 8650 dye-sub printer, and a Agfa 12x18 2000xl oversized scanner, and a Nikon LS-2000 neg scanner. So, I still use classic for these hardware items in which os x drivers were never created.
I wanted to use two displays for color proofing, the adc 23" studio display and a DVI formac display. So I needed to upgrade my Geforce2 MX to Geforce4 Ti4600.
It boots fine into OS X however it freezes when booting into os 9.1.
I cannot find any information on the extentions needed for OS 9.1. I am using Nvida drivers 1.1.1 from June 2001. I think this is the source of the problem.
What drivers do I need for the computer to boot?
    Adrian

Thank you for the reply, but that link does not work. Is this an os 9.1 issue were the drivers do not exist and I have to upgrade to 9.2.2 or is this an updated drivers issue?

When I just touch the video card a little with the power off (without removing at all), it gets back normal when I restart...
The pins on the monitor cable maybe bent.  Can you try another monitor.
Could be something loose somewhere on card maybe?  Bad solder somewhere etc.  When card warms up it can lose connection.
What are the Power Supplies.  Can be the root of alot of problems exp with Gf4 (make and wattage of PSU can be the difference of it working or not)
Bluesky.  I'm not familier with grounded AC plug.  Does this have three wires, or is it a separate wire???

  • Geforce4 ti4600 conflicting or something with win2k.

Hi all...just got me brand new K7N2 Delta-ILSR....I got it all plugged in and went to install win2k pro...it gets through the dos portion of the setup with no problem...I'm not installing the raid drivers because my HDD's are not on the raid controller.
It gets done copying and says its goign to reboot to finish the install...it does so...then when it comes back up I get the dos-like progress indicator at the bottom of the screen that says Starting Windows and it goes all the way across and then the screen goes blank and stays that way...
I've tried numerous things and managed to narrow it down to the video card...I put in an old PCI card and it worked fine...I've pulled out all my other cards and extra devices and turned off the on board extras.
Apparently I'm missing some particular bios setting perhaps that makes my video card work properly?
I have the following actually plugged in:
    Antec 450 Watt PSU
    K7N2 Delta-ILSR
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (333 version)
    Crucial PC3200 512Mb
    Visiontek Geforce4 ti4600
    Anybody got any bright ideas???

I'm pretty sure I tried that already, along with increasign the voltage to it.

    Greetings all.
I'm havin' a problem with FPS in games. The video skips pretty badly. It seems to skip about 5 frames every second.
    Specs & Settings:
    Proc: AMD XP2000+
      -FSB 133
    Mobo: k7n2g-LISR
      -Bios: v1.2
      -8x AGP disabled
RAM: Kingston 1024 megs PC3200 DDR
    Video: VisionTek GeForce4 Ti4600 (4x version)
      -nVidia v43.45 Detonator drivers
OpSys: Windows 2000 Pro (also used Windows XP SP1)
      -Service Pack 3 installed
      -All windows updates installed

Where would one turn that off? I checked both in the game and in display properties.
Edit - NM found it. nVidia hid it. That didn't work either.

  • GeForce4 Ti4600 HELP PLZ!!!

So i put the card on my brother computer, is a P4 1.4, motherboard intel D850DB, 256MB rambus memory and work perfect. So I ask for the teachers ehehe.. what is the problem? I really think that is the motherboard. :(

You have a 1.9GHz P4.  This processor draws more power than was originally planned for ATX 2.0 power supply units (PSUs).  Thus, P4-compatible power supplies have been augmented with an additional 12V connector to supply additional current to the motherboard (which then divides and regulates it down to what the processor and other board components expect).  Thus, the board/processor/RAM combination generally isn't receiving adequate power to operate when the additional 4-pin connector is not connected.
    Quote
and whem i put over that 4pin dont work. Like without the 4pin dont get in on BIOS, and with that get in on BIOS what you think?
Yup.  When the extra connector is disconnected, inadequate power is provided and the board does not operate.  When it is connected, there is adequate power.
Note that it is still possible to have a too tiny power supply and too power-hungry components.  In fact, your particular set of hardware is rather power-hungry.  Even if you don't have immediate power trouble, as the power supply ( and other components ) age(s), you may find that the machine is unstable when it is either cold or hot.  Eventually this will worsen until either it only works after it's been off for a while or it only works after it's been on for a while.
Thus, although you aren't experiencing power supply trouble currently, it would be wise to watch for the symptoms I've mentioned and then take corrective power supply action if you observe them.

  • Okay, here is a GF4 Ti4600 problem for you

My MSI Ti4600 problem has a problem blocking in games. It runs a little blocky in most games, but NFS Porsche is the worst.
I had a LeadTek GF3 w/64 meg RAM in there before that ran great. I really don't know why I wanted to change it... The same games ran great on my GF3, and continue to run great on the same GF3 in my P3 750 machine. Here are my machine specs:
    P4 2.0 GHtz
    768 meg pc800 ram
Western Digital 120 gig 7200 rpm w/8 meg cache
Western Digital 40 gig 7200 rpm
600 watt (yes, 600) power supply
    MSI GF4 Ti4600
    Intel D850EMV2 motherboard
    Aopen 12x DVD
    Samsung 40x12x40 cd-rw
    USB 2.0
    D-Link ethernet card
    Creative Labs Audigy Platinum EX
    Direct X 9
Windows XP home on the 120 gig drive and Red Hat Linux 8.0 on the 40 gig drive.
Also, the case, processor, chipset, hard drives and video card are all liquid cooled. The card is not overclocked and my video settings are set at 800x600. I had Direct X 8.1 in and it still did the same thing. My 3D Mark score is almost identical to the GF3 card at 11,700.
So what gives? Is this video card as cheap as I think it is?

    Okay, problem solved!
I went with the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, which by the way, uses more power than the GeForce 4 Ti4600, and have not looked back since! Oh yeah, I am using the same power supply too

Be careful about what you call a POS. My guess is that there are less than a dozen power supply manufacturers, as listed on the net. I can assure you that in manufacturing, one company will make the same product and put different names on it for other companies, distributors etc.....
Now a question for deathstalker and wonkaboy:
After about two days of searching the net, magazines, manufacturer's sites and speaking with techs in large and small computer stores, why did I find absolutely no articles or comments about Geforce 4's and power problems?  If they need as much power as YOU say, and most power supplies sold in computers are around the 300 watt flavor( and not all antec), then why are there no articles or complaints about it? Why do the manufacturer's not put XXX watts combined required on the box, in the readme or in the manual? Because it is nowhere near an issue you are making of it.
Seriously, with thousands upon thousands of GeForce 4's sold, and nothing about power problems? Except here, of course.
By the way, I did find one site ( Best Buy I think) that listed some power requirements, they averaged at 300 watt power supply, if it was even listed. Most 300, some 250 and only one 350. All with no combined power recommendation.
If MSI has a need, it is heat sinks for the memory chips and a better gpu heat sink, but like your power supply idea, this is just an opinion.
I should've learned from the MSI mobo I had briefly. It had a nice little habit of supplying power to the KVM switch and optical mouse when it was shut down. I, however, got absolutely no help on the old website with this problem.
Now, after all that, I must thank the two of you for replying to this thread and trying to help me with this problem.
    Thank You!
That is something I am sure you don't hear often on the net, or even in this message board :(

  • "aperture size" for geforce4 ti4600?

I'd like to know what's the best aperture size for geforce4 ti4600..    someone know tests that can answer this question?
    thanks
for now i'm using 128mb for the aperture...
But this is equel to  128mb G4 + 128mb RAM =  8o 256mb.. (and is not necessary so much memory)
    my motherboard is SOYO dragon+

    Codsid,
I tried several sizes and ended up just using the default 64Mb.

    Hi
i have a MSI TI4600 AGP8x(602-8900-070) but the detonator 45.23 drivers detect a TI4800 GPU... the card is VERY hot.... the system tº up to 47ºc !!!!!!
please help me after burning my card

    eXPerience,
Btw, a GeForce4 Ti4600 with 8X is a GeForce4 Ti4800. So your drivers are detecting the card correctly.
Do not worry about the Temp, it is withing normal operating limits for that card.

  • Major Stopping/Skipping Problem With 30G Photo iPod

Hi all. I'll try to give the short version of my major iPod problems I've been having. It's been going on for a couple months straight now.
The first thing that started happening was, in the middle of playing a song, it would freeze, and then start skipping through of the rest of the tracks on that playlist or album. It would sometimes make a "whirring" sound when going from track to track without playing them. Sometimes, this process would start instead when trying to manually skip from one song to another...it would just start to skip through tracks. It had to be restarted a bunch of times, and none of these problems had been present in the 2 or so years previous I owned it. Eventually, it showed an "unhappy face" and nothing else could be done.
I brought it back to Best Buy, where I bought it, as it was still under warranty for another year. They sent the iPod back to Apple for repairs. The "repaired" iPod was back in my hands in about 3 weeks, and for a week or so worked perfectly. Then, it started having the skipping tracks problem again.
Not long there after, it started having more serious problems. It needed to be resetted very frequently. The skipping of tracks, the first warning sign, became the least of it's problems. It needed to be completely restored. The first time it was restored, it got through about 600-1000 of the 5800 songs on it, then stopped and said the restore failed.
Other times, it showed the dreaded "1418" message. Other times it had messages like these:
Attempting to copy to the disk “Andrew’s iPod” failed. An unknown error occurred (-69).
The iPod “Andrew’s iPod” cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to.
The iPod “Andrew’s iPod” cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found.
Eventually, it synced correctly. But the problems continued, and over the course of two weeks it had to be completely restored about 3 or 4 times, although it would then work again perfectly fine for, like, an hour.
So I took it back in again. This time, Best Buy told me that I would be quickly sent back a "Refurb" unit (a refurbished iPod that someone else had returned, I guess and had then been fixed or what have you.)
After a few days, I got the refurb unit. It's not my old iPod, I could tell just by looking at the front and back. And, for about 2 weeks, it worked absolutely perfectly. It reloaded like a charm, and played completely fine. The battery life seemed a little iffy, but nothing crazy.
Then, yesterday, this iPod that *is not* the same iPod I returned as far as I can tell, is having THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. Yesterday, in the middle of a song that I had played many times before, it froze, stopped, and started skipping songs. It needed to be reset, what else is new. So, I did, and got the "unhappy face" with the address of iPod support once again.
I'm really confused. What is the problem here? When I had my first unit returned, I figured perhaps the problem hadn't been addressed. But this doesn't even appear to be the same unit.
Could there be a problem with iTunes 7.1.1 with my iPod? For what it's worth, I followed the advice found online to try to find corrupted music files, and can't find any. When it had restore problems with the last unit, I checked to see if it was stopping on any particular song, and it was different every time. Even so, I erased those songs just in case.
Also, when it freezes and stops now (and with the old unit, for that matter) it was never the same song. And it was almost always on a song that had already been played many times, perfectly fine, many times before, and recently to boot. I've also played through almost every song through iTunes over the last couple months to check for any obvious problems, and never found any.
With over 5750 songs on my iPod, I don't know how I can possibly know with complete certainty if there's anything with a problem amongst them, although completely erasing my iPod library that until 2 months ago never had a problem is kind of a worst case scenario.
What on earth could be wrong with my iPod? It's currently plugged into an outlet, vacillating between the Apple symbol and the "unhappy face." Anyone have ANY ideas?!?!?

I wondered what a 'photo' iPod was. This forum is for the 5G video. I don't know how long an iPod is supposed to last. I think it is based on use and how roughly it is handled if it is a hard-drive model.
Maybe time for a new machine?

  • Major Entourage calendar problem...HELP!

So we're having a major problem with out Entourage Exchange calendars.
When one of our users accepts a calnedar invite, a NEW invite is generated from OUR USER and sent to everyone on the original invite's list! The second invite has full ability to accept/decline, so it looks like our user is taking over the original invite, just by accepting.
Totally embarrassing and this just started out of nowhere.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Wish I had a solution for you - but I don't. A full search of this issue has revealed major ignorance or avoidance from Apple re: this.
Another problem - when accepting an invitation on the iPhone, it appears on the calendar but not on Entourage's calendar. We share calendars at work, and mine looks completely empty (which may or may not be a bad thing!)

The problem is that i only get to the Windows 98 SE startup screen and then the pc reboots in safe mode. I can use the standard Windows drivers without any  problems. I even updated the bios on the mainboard to 1008 beta 3 on Asus homepage without any luck + i installed latest drivers and tried with several other drivers versions. Still no changes :/
I borrowed Windows 2000 from work and it installed without any problems.
How do i get it to work in Windows 98 SE?
Is there anyone kind out there who can help me?

The link appears broken at this time.
As I recall, MS's solutions were:
    1) remove some RAM,
    2) configure the machine to ignore some RAM, or
    3) pay MS for an upgrade.
The much better solution is to fix the problem.  The problem is that the File Cache is configured at boot time as a function of your total system memory.  However, the space for the cache is allocated from a particular section of memory (from which accelerated graphics resources are also allocated).  The MS programmers didn't bother to check that the amount they were trying to allocate would actually fit.
Consequently, the nVidia drivers and the File Cache will fight for limited resources and one will lose.  In neither event can the machine operate.
This link provides additional information on what's going on and why you might want to fix this, even if you aren't having a "too much RAM problem".
    http://www.putergeek.com/vcache/index.shtml
Even more information is available at
    http://tweakhomepc.virtualave.net/memory/vcache98.html
at which recommendations for particular RAM configurations are made.
And, in case you're wondering, the settings for this Win98SE, 1GB RAM machine are:
    [vcache]
    MinFileCache=65536
    MaxFileCache=131072
    ChunkSize=2048
    NameCache=4096
    DirectoryCache=96
    ConservativeSwapFileUsage=1
I also must take umbrage with the recommendation that one should automatically upgrade to Win2k.  If you're like me (and you probably aren't -- I've been a geek far too long), over half the software you use on a regular basis is unable to run under Win2k.  Thus, for my workflow, there's no way to run Win2k.  It's worthless to me.  And, so far, no one's convinced me that giving up half the software I've spent ~10 years getting to know really, really well justifies spending yet even more money for something that is fundamentally the same as what I've got...
