Major help needed! Saving iPhoto book as a working file

I am a student teacher and I am teaching a lesson on Friday that uses iPhoto book. My cooperating teacher has asked me to create an iPhoto book template for the students to use to make the activity easier for them. I have created the template book but realized I have no idea how to save it as a working file that can be transferred from one computer to the students' laptops.
I know there are some tutorials from a user named Old Toad for this; however, I am not typically a mac user, so I found those directions sort of confusing. I need very clear and explicit directions on how to do this if I can. Thanks so much.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The Photobooks are templates.
The only way to move a book to another computer is to move the Library that contains it. This is because the book is an entry in the database and there is no ay to share it.

  • Help needed with iphoto book

I am putting together a photobook.  When I format it for 8'x10 hardcover some of the photos come up with a warning of low resolution.  Is there anyway to preview how the pictures will print so I can figure if they are acceptable?  Is there anything I can do to increase the resolutions on the photos? Any help would be appreciated.

    No and no
you can not preview the print quality of a printed piece on a computer screen since the resolutions are totally different
and you can not "increase" the respolution of a photo - just like you can not change an out of focus photo - some software like Photoshop and elements can "increase the resolution by creating new pixels that are created by splitting the difference between the two pixels on each side thereby reducing pixelzation but it does not increase quality - in face it reduces it
Books need a minimum of 180 DPI so for an 8x10 print you need a photo that is at least 1440x1800
I have printed lower resolution when I really wanted the photo and the results have been ok but certinly not of the quality that photos with adaquate resolution have

  • Urgent help needed with iPhoto/pdf preview for book order - mysterious pixelated areas show on PDF but not in iPhoto

Hello. I ordered an iPhoto book last week to give to my parents for their 50th wedding anniversary. Tonight, I just checked on the order status and found that my book is cancelled. I received no notification about it, and all I could do was fill out the online form, so customer service will get back to me on Monday via email (if I'm lucky...). There is no telephone number for me to call about this. I decided I'd best do some searching to try to figure out what had happened.
I had thought that the preview I saw in iPhoto was the preview of the book. I found out I was wrong. So I created a PDF preview of the book and found some craziness that I don't understand. In iPhoto (and any other program, i.e. PhotoShop), my photos are fine. They are mostly TIFF format and high resolution with a few high res JPEGs. However, when I view the PDF, there is a band of black and white pixelation about 1/2-inch across the bottom of some pages - not all. The photos in that area are messed up in that band zone. The other photos are totally unaffected. This affects both TIFF and JPEG photos, and both black and white and color.
Has anyone else had this problem, and what was your solution? I would be extremely grateful to anyone for advice or information about this! The anniversary party is less than a week away and I'm beyond my limit of stress right now...

Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new library.  Import enough photos for a book (use some of those in the current book) create a new book and preview as a PDF.  If you don't see the problem then it's limited to your library which may be damaged.  If that's the case make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete  the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot and the option to rebuild the small thumbnails.
If you get the same problem in the test library then log into another user account on your Mac, create a test library and try it there.  If the problem shows up there a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated.  To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
If you don't encounter the problem in the other user account then it's something in your account that's the culprit. Post back with the results.

  • Help needed for iPhoto 8

I have inadvertently moved all my photo events (and their various labels) into one folder. This move erased all the event names so I have one massive unnamed folder/event. How can I undo this without having to go through all 10000 pictures and reorganize them? (I closed iPhoto before realizing what I had done, so I can't just "undo"). I did back up to Time Capsule this am and started to import them from there but I don't know that TC keeps them in event order and it seemed painfully slow. Ideas? thanks
    Dave Stroh

    Dave:
Do you have a recent backup of the entire library or of the library's database file, Library6.iPhoto, or the AlbumData.xml file? Having either is the only way I know of to get your events back without having to do it manually.
Otherwise, since Events are time based, you could create Smart albums based on years. Select all of the photos is one year smart album and create an event. Then do the same for each month in a year and make events for them. That way you'd at least have events based on months. That's the best I can think of.
See the tip at the end of my signature for a way to quickly and easily recover from a similar problem or other library damage issues in the future.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Please Help, Very Frustrated - iPhoto 11  & Canon Raw(.cr2) files

I recently started shooting raw(.cr2) with Canon 6D (on the list), while on vacation of course.... while there I loaded all my images to my Ipad to save room, due to only having my 16gb memory card with me, yesterday I decided to take them off the ipad and store them in iPhoto where all my work is stored and back it up to my external harddrive,  I have tried for 4 hoursto figure out why it won't upload to iPhoto 11, nothing works, it acts as if its uploading and then after 30 mins it says unrecognizable format(see screen capture below).
I have read several other different forums and similar questions all the way back to 2005 and nothing seems to help, I tried making a smart album, updating the software, but iPhoto will not recognize the pics.  I did find one forum that said use Image Capture and do it that way, It worked to move them off the ipad but only to my extrenal hard drive with no image preview, saying it cannot open the file, all I eally want to do is have them load like all my other images into iPhoto which I use almost everyday and not have to go back to shooting jpeg along...PLEASE HELP any suggestions??

Thanks everyone...I tried and even downloaded the specific software released from Canon specific for Mac for my camera a Canon 6D... Nothing worked... IPhoto never would recognize the images....
BUT .....  in case someone else has this problem... I had to jump through hoops to figure it out... but finally with the help of several forums on here... I figured out a way to save my images and have them in a jpeg format to save for my memory folder for my daughter....so I did figure out a way to make it work...
If you transfer for images from camera(in raw format .cr2) to your ipad...... and cannot load them to iphoto like me....here is how to do it....
    1. I searched my Mac, it comes with a software installed called "Image Capture" find it and load your pictures on
your ipad to a folder on your desktop for easy finding.
    2. Search Google and Download Program Called Rawker....
    3.  Open Rawker... go to File
                                  a.  Select Batch - Select source Location - Select your file you saved your images in
                                  b.  Select File Batch - Select Source Destination - either make a file on your desktop or
select where you want your newly converted RAW/jpeg images to be placed
                                  c. Select File batch and Start Batch...
    4. After its done with the convert -  you can import that new .jpeg folder of images to your iphoto
Bunch of crazy circles because I was told it was better to shoot in Raw .cr2 ... NOT ... It might be if you have the right program but I guess none of the ones I tried worked....
Until I find a better way I will just go back to shooting in jpeg fine.
    Thanks again Everyone

  • Importing iPhoto books back from pdf files

I saved my book on a cd in pdf. I want to put it back into iphoto to print more books - iphoto said it couldn't read the format. How do I do this?

    sjrb:
You can't back engineer a book from the pdf file. You might however do a Print to PDF and select the Send PDF to iPhoto option. That will give you jpg files for each page of the pdf. You might be able to create a book with all pages in a 1 photo per page layout and use those jpgs of each page. It won't be as good as the original but may be acceptable.
The pdf conversion process produces jpgs that are 2200 x 1700 x 200 dpi which do not give a low quality warning when put a 1 photo/page layout. You'll have trouble with the cover and will have to find the photo for it and redo it with a photo. Worth a try.
If I may offer a suggestion. In the future create a separate library for the book, add the picture you want in the book to an album in the original library. Then use iPhoto Library Manager to transfer that album to the book library and any more photos as you go along. When you're done you can burn that book library folder to a CD using the Finder to archive that book. If you want to order another book at a later day, copy that library folder back to the desktop, open it iPhoto and order another exact copy. Delete the folder when done.

  • Help needed w/ JDeveloper and Raptor not working for me in 10.4

Well, I've been successfully running the previous version of JDeveloper, 10.1.2.0.0 (Build 1811) for a few months on my OS X, Tiger (10.4) laptop. I recently tried to get Project Raptor running. I'm using Apple's version of Java from Software Update, J2SE 5.0 Release 3 which is the most up-to-date version I can find anywhere.
My problem is this. I can do most anything fine, but as soon as I try to Debug an PL/SQL function in either Raptor, or the JDeveloper 10.1.3 build I get an error "Unsupported feature Vendor Code 17023" when I click OK in the Debug PL/SQL dialog box.
Thing is that this works just fine in JDeveloper 10.1.2.0.0 (Build 1811). The thing that is interesting is the 10.1.2 JDeveloper uses the Java 1.4.2 where Raptor and JDeveoper 10.1.3 use the Java 1.5, I'm guessing it's a problem in Apple's Java 1.5 but can anyone else verify this or offer help to how I can make it work?
    tks

I fail to get the error message you describe. What I get is:

  • HELP NEEDED! iphoto library from version '08 to '11?

How do I export/transfer/migrate/move the iphoto library from an old computer running iphoto version '08 (7.1.5) to a new computer running version '11 (9.1.2)?
Due to lack of space (library >100GB) I intend to put the old library on an external drive and keep it there for reference. My more current photos are kept in a new fresh local library.
I succeed in transfering the library to the external drive, however the icon for the file (in Finder) is not recognized as an iphotolibrary (iPhoto Library masa is a test library, iphotolibbig is the library I want to transfer):
I now tried creating a new library iPhotoLibraryBIGfromG5 (it is empty to start with even though the name says BIG...):
I now open iphoto choosing the iPhotoLibraryBIGfromG5 and then import the old library by simply dragging and dropping into iphoto.
The photos surely show up, but I loose all my "events" and some info is corrupt (and what else, I don't know haven't looked into all errors).
Please, please give me some hints on this issue, it has followed me for a long time now...
    Help is much appreciated!

I now open iphoto choosing the iPhotoLibraryBIGfromG5 and then import the old library by simply dragging and dropping into iphoto.
This is NOT the way to convert an older library to iPhoto 11.
To move you library from your old Mac to the new one all you need to do is connect the two and drag it to the location on the new Mac where you want to run it.  In this case that would be to your external hard drive.
Then open iPhoto 11 with the Option key held down, click on the Other Library button.
Navigate to the external hard drive and select the library that you moved there.  iPhoto 11 will open and convert it to the new format keeping your events, albums, keywords, titles, slideshows, books, etc. intact.
If you want to keep a smaller library on your boot drive launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and use the Create New... button. Then use iPhoto Library Manager to copy the Event and/or albums from the full library on the EHD into the smaller library on the boot drive.  It will keep the keywords, titles, descriptions intact.
Again as a reminder, do not import the old library into a new library.

  • RH9 Crashing When Generating WebHelp - MAJOR Help Needed

    Hello,
Our software release date is next Thursday, August 18th, so I'm a bit panicky. What's happening has never happened before. Every time I try to generate WebHelp, RH9 crashes while "Updating Files". There are two of us working on the project...maybe something has gotten messed up? Can anyone tell me what I should check, or what I should do? Below is a screenshot of the error, as well as the error report itself.
In the above screenshot, you can see the Output View at the bottom of the window, and the crash happens during "Updating files..."  Does anyone know what this means? I REALLY need help. If I can't get this figured out, we're in major trouble - possibly no Help released for our product. A trillion thanks in advance for anyone who can help.
Below is the contents of the error report
Message was edited by Peter Grainge - The text posted has been removed as it was over 100 pages long and made the thread very difficult for forum supporters to assist. I have deleted it and put the text into a text file that is attached.

Can we start with some questions to see what is going on here.
Has this project ever compiled correctly, either in RH9 or another version?
Is this a new installation of RH9?
Can you generate any RH project. Try generating one of the supplied dummy projects (e.g. SalesBuilder)?
Can you generate any other output formats from this project (e.g. CHM)?
Have you tried creating a new WebHelp SSL?
If none of this works, perhaps you can post some more details of what exactly has changed since the last successful generation.

  • WRT350N..Major Help Needed

Ok...I've just about had it with calling Linksys and not getting any help at all.  I am trying to connect an external hard drive into the USB port and access it wirelessly.  I can not get it to work.  When I go to Networks on my computer (I have Vista) I see 2 Linksys WRT350n listed.  When I click on one, it asks me for my password.  I type it in and it goes to the Linksys set-up page.  When I click on the other one, it also asks me for my password...yet it doesn't work.  It always changes my username to Fitzgerald-PC/admin and NOTHING is working.  A technition with Linksys had the nerve to say that they don't make a router that has a USB capability!  UGH!  If anyone can help me...I would really appreciate it.  Please email me at [email protected]!  I need some major assistance.  Thanks!!!!

hmmm... they did? I wonder what they call a WRT350N router then... anyway, can't really help much... i only know basic routers and devices which are what I have...  hehe..

  • Problem installing Creative Suite CS4, major help needed

Basically I need help asap because I uninstalled my previous versions of PS etc to install this and work has to be done.
I installed the "Adobe Creative Suite 4 Master Collection" yesterday without problems, but then something happened to my machine last night which forced me to do a system restore.
I restored and the suite was no longer installed, since then I have had many problems trying to install it again.
It keeps getting up to about 5/8 of the progress bar then it freezes on "Currently installing Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin". I did have trouble trying to install "Adobe Flash Player 10" before and finally managed to do it, but it's still freezing when installing the suite.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Liam

OK now it's installed, all of the programs work fine except for photoshop.
I did have photoshop cs2 and cs3 previously installed.
I load up "Adobe Photoshop CS4" and it starts loading, it says "initialising" etc and then when it gets to "Building TWAIN menu items" it pops up with the "Adobe Photoshop CS4 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" message window asking me to "Send Error Report".
    Any ideas please?

  • Help needed saving text members to TAB delimited txt file

I have 7 text memebrs each containing several lines of text
that were pulled in and sorted from a TAB delimited text file.
What I'd like to know is, is there any way to convert those
text members back into the TAB delimited format from which they
came? I'd like to be able to pull in the data, let it be edited to
some extent, then saved back out..... and I'm not too sure how to
    go about it.
    Example of txt file:
    ID_No Name Age
    1 Phil 26
    2 Sam 34
    3 Mary 21
They're then sorted in to text files of ID_No, Name, and Age,
with the lists of the relevent items in each.
    Like.....
    ID_No
    1
    2
    3
    Name
    Phil
    Sam
    Mary
    Age
    26
    34
    21
Certain lines of these text members change, depending on what
the user selects. I'd like to put these sections back in their
original TAB delimited format, but with any changed data replacing
the old, so next ime the app is opened the new data is pulled in
    from the txt file.
I know I'm probably going about this the wrong way, but it's
the only way I know so far lol
    Any ideas?

    filex.openfile (the moviepath & "tout.txt", 2)
    repeat with x = 1 to idlst.count() do
    filex.writestring (idlst[x] & tab & namelst[x] &
    tab & agelst[x] & return)
    end repeat
    filex.closefile()
    end
I tested this on your exact scenario and it worked a brezze
    hope it helps

  • Help needed with audio books

Could someone please tell me how i get an audio book to appear under the category "Audio books". Everytime i import an audio book into itunes it shows up as a song file and ends up in the middle of all my songs instead of its own category? ? ?

Only audiobooks from ITMS, audible.com and AAC files with m4b extensions (applescripts for mac) show up in audiobook main menu, skip in main menu shuffle, and allow faster/slower/normal playback speed.
