Major iTunes trouble. Cannot import CD's or add album pictures

Several days ago I ran into a difficult problem with iTunes, which I have been unable to fix.
It has become impossible to import CD's. The files start to import, and sometimes even complete, but the results are garbled. Sometimes it's a minor issue (i.e., popping) but most of the time the MP3's wind up much shorter than the original song, but not in any consistent way. For example, on one track I will have the last 2 minutes of a 3 minute song, yet another track on the same album is missing the final 15 seconds. Really random.
Also, I can no longer add album pictures to any song in iTunes. If I drag a picture onto the "selected song" preview, it displays the new artwork, but it's not actually saved, or it gets saved in a garbled fashion.
This is all very frustrating. If it is a virus or spyware, it's something unique to iTunes as neither Norton Antivirus nor Spysweeper find anything on my harddrives.
I have already tried deleting iTunes and reinstalling. That didn't accomplish anything, although it's possible there are some corrupted registry items which I didn't find.
Any suggestions?

Apple hasn't replied, but I believe I have found the answer. If I disable Norton Antivirus's "autoprotect" feature, iTunes works perfectly. If I turn it back on, I get all of the symptons described above.
Whether this is a bug in Norton or iTunes remains to be seen, but one of them is badly misbehaving.

In order for you to solve this problem you have to follow these stept if your running windows:
1'st step is to go into the device manager
2 step is to go to portable devices (it is rught under network adapters)
3 step is to right clic apple iphone and click update drivers
4 step is to brows your drivers from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers

  • Major iTunes Trouble...PLEASE HELP!

When my iPod battery died, I plugged it right in to my computer. Usually, I have no problems updating or charging. I figured I would listen to some music while the iPod was charging, so after I plugged it it, I opened iTunes, and a window popped up that said "iTunes service cannot be deleted," but I was still able to open iTunes. Then another window came up that said "The software for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software." This has never happened, so I'm curious as to what's going on and what I can do to fix it without having all of my songs erased. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • HELP!!  Upgraded to latest Itunes, now cannot import CDs!!!

Was doing fine, enjoying my new Ipod, building music library for first time. Then I upgraded and now I can no longer import music.
I ran diagnostics as suggested in other thread on problems burning CD, which shows that the computer is not recognizing my CD drive anymore. And in My Computer...it does not show that there is an audio cd in the drive.
What is going on that Itunes is causing the computer not to recognize the drive? I read that there is a work around for the immediate problem of beginning the import in windows media player---but is there a way of backing out of this version of Itunes that is clearly problematic? I really regret upgrading.
Itunes diagnostic is below which shows drive is "empty" when there is a CD in it.

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

    "+itunes frequently renders CD/DVD burners useless...+"
"Frequently"?! Do you know why (and what can be done about it)?
I'd love to have itunes on my PC and throw 'em $$ for downloads, but I haven't had any luck so far. And, frankly, I'd rather have my drive and burner working and be itunes-less than the other way around...
EDIT: I asked in an already existing thread with no luck:

  • I don't have a CD import icon in ITunes therefore, cannot import/playback CD's.  How do I fix this?

I do not have a CD playback icon in ITunes in the lower left-hand corner.  As a consequence, unable to import music from a CD.  How can I fix this?

I don't have a CD import icon in the lower left-hand corner either, because there isn't one.
    When you put a CD in your computer's CD drive, iTunes will open up a window such as this;
and as you can see, Import CD is shown in the top right side. Alternatively, if you have the sidebar showing, you will see this instead:
but which still has Import CD in the same place as before.

You need to transfer the iTunes Library from the most recent backup you made before the hard drive was replaced.
You can't transfer the full iTunes Library from the iPad back to iTunes.
There are third-party Windows applications that will transfer data from an iOS device, but they don't re-create the iTunes Library exactly as it was before.

  • HT203242 I use ipod classic 120G. When I launch itunes I first of all see a message "The registry settings used by itunes drivers for importing and burning cds & DVDs are missing." I cannot sync my ipod. Any ideas?

I use an ipod classic 120G. When I try to launch itunes I first of all see a box stating "The registry settings used by itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall itunes"   This I have done. obviously I cannot burn CDs but worse still is my ipod is not being recognised by itunes and will not sync. I have not installed any new burning softeware. Any suggestions please?

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

When I try to import a CD to iTunes, it says Windows will try to diagnose problem. It is followed by "iTunes has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

    Good catch, Pnarbs.
The version which has the trouble with importing using the AAC encoding is 10.1.0.54, and the version which fixes the issue is 10.1.0.56. If you already have 10.1.0.54 installed, 10.1.0.56 doesn't appear for you in Apple Software Update, so you need to go to the Apple Website to get the 10.1.0.56 installer, as per the following document:
[iTunes 10.1 for Windows: iTunes may stop working and need to quit while importing or syncing audio|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3591]

  • When importing a CD I get the following message: The Itunes library cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation. The import will be saved to library but soon is lost.

What can I do to to fix this?

    Hey mishlw!
I have an article for you that addresses an issue very similar to this, and it can be found here:

  • After upgrading iTunes software, I cannot import playlists

After upgrading iTunes software, I cannot import playlists.  Help!

    To be more clear:
    1.  My music and my playlists are on an external drive.  My playlists are saved as .m3u files.
    2.  Everything was working perfectly before the iTunes upgrade yesterday.  But now when I use the iTunes "File/Library/Import Playlist" feature, the playlist that is imported is EMPTY.
    3.  I can open the .m3u file and see that it contains the songs with their full path.  So the .m3u file contains the correct information, it is just not importing into iTunes like it used to.
    4.  Apparenty when iTunes upgraded, it changed some setting and now everything is out of sync.
    I am so stumped.

  • Updated iPhone / iTunes and now cannot Import CDs

    OS: Win7 Home Premium
    iTunes: 10.1.0.56
Yesterday I decided to take the plunge and started importing my CD collection. About 30 CDs in I decided to take a break. I plugged in my iPhone and hit the update button in iTunes. (I’m not sure if I got the iPhone update and/or Itunes + quicktime update.) At any rate, when I went back to importing CDs nothing would import. I’ve tried about 5 different CDs, but each gets a version of this error, “Error occurred while converting the file [blah blah blah]. The disk could not be read from or written to.”
I can play CDs using iTunes. I can play previously imported CDs using iTunes. But now I cannot import CDs.

Its always the first song of the CD as I try to import it. I can play from the CD without any problem. However, when I click 'Import CD' I get the following type of error, "Error occurred while converting teh file 'Mozart: Le Nozze Di Figaro, K 492 - - Overture'. The disk could not be read from or written to.
I'm trying to save to a network folder. I'm not sure what the path is or how to find it again in iTunes.

  • Cannot import CDs into iTunes, disc is corrupted and unreadable error.

Cannot import CDs into iTunes, keep getting disc is corrupted and unreadable error. Advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the reply!
I downloaded the program and ran it, got to the point where it says I have errors that need to be fixed... but it appears I have to pay for the rest of the program to actually repair these errors. Is this incorrect?
If I do have to pay, then I'd like to look for an alternative... the program is $40; of course, that's cheaper than buying a new iPod, but I want to avoid that too.
