Major Move of My Pictures from C to D drive

I need to move all My Pictures or at least the contents (20 GB) from a C drive to a new partition on that same physical drive, the D drive.
Rather than move one folder at a time, is there some way to move the entire master folder?  Either with LR3 or with Explorer and than resynch (or I suppose reimport) to LR3?
My C Drive is simply getting too full and needs something relocated to D and the pictures are the things that are growing by leaps and bounds.
Perry

Do not re import under any circumstances.
If all the folders are under one master folder, as is always the sensible way of structuring, then this is easy. Just move (not copy, if you copy the files remain in the original location and LR will continue to reference them there)) the entire folder to the new drive and then in LR right click on the master folder, select relocate folder, point to the new location and the job is done.
Large moves will be a lot faster using the OS rather than in LR. You can do this in LR, by dragging the folder, but it is likely to take a lot longer.

  • Lost hard drive how do I move music and pictures from iPhone to new drive

I lost the external drive that had itunes on it. How do I get all my music and pictures from my iPhone to the new iTunes program?

Music is not stored in the iCloud. Past purchases can be reloaded from the cloud, and iTunes Match provides this function to non-purchased music.

How do I move a PDF picture from an email on my iPad to my pictures?

You can't save a PDF directly to the photos app, but if you can open the PDF in the mail app and get the entire PDF to appear on the screen, take a screenshot of it and that will be saved to the photos app camera roll.
Hold down on the sleep button and the home button at the same time briefly until you see the white flash on the screen and hear the shutter sound. That's how to take a screenshot.
You should probably tap and hold down on the PDF in the mail app and select it to open in iBooks or another PDF app that you might have on the iPad.

My question is pretty straightforward: How do I—or can I—move my operating system from one internal hard drive to another on the same Mac Pro desktop?

I'll let baltwo come in with a definitive answer, but the last time I just made a clone, CCC used Disk Utility to create a recovery partition on an external drive's partition. You get these windows successively (and it did create it with a message that it was successful):

  • How do I move my iTunes library from my external hard drive back to my computer?

Just wondering how do I move my entire iTunes library from my external hard drive back to my computer? It was moved to an external hard drive a few years ago, and now I'm wondering how to move it back to my iMac to increase performance.
Where does it belong in the computer?
    Any suggestions?

The library itself is the /Home/Music/iTunes/ folder in its entirety. Did you also change where preference files were stored? Normally, they would be in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.

  • HT1589 iMac:  How do I move my iTunes folder from one external hard drive to another external drive?

Due to file size reasons, I found myself several years ago with the need to move my iTunes Library from my desktop's internal drive to an external drive [which I also used via partition for a backup of my internal drive]  I now have to move to a different external hard drive -- again for more space.  I've copied the iTunes Library to the new drive, but can't seem to get iTunes to recognize and run it.
What specifically do I need to do to get this done?

You could plug the WD drive straight into the TC but it will be much faster to do it with the WD drive plugged into the computer.. and just mount the TC hard disk in Finder.
To move itunes library you must follow the Apple instructions.. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1449
You may need to reconnect itunes to the library before you try to move it.. !!

  • How do I move my iTunes library from an external hard drive to my new Time Capsule?

I stored my 77GB of iTunes library on my six year old 1TB Time Capsule. I just bought a 2TB Time Capsule and moved the iTunes associated folders onto a WD My Passport HD. Now, I can't figure out how to get them onto my new Time Capsule. Can someone please help me?
I have a MBP that doesn't have enough hard drive space to move them from the WD hard drive onto the MBP and then onto the Time Capsule.
Isn't there a way to move the files directly from the external HD to the Time Capsule?
    Thanks.

  • How do I save pictures from Iphoto to flash drive?

How do I save my pictures from Iphoto to a flash drive??

File -> Export and export the files to a folder on the desktop.
Drag the folder to the flashdrive.
You might not want to reformat the drive as then it won’t work with many other devices.

  • Can I simply move my main pictures folder to External Hard Drive?

My pictures folder contains all my catalogues and all my photos that are stored in Lightroom 3. I am running out of internal storage space, so I need to get an external hard drive.
Is it possible for me to simply move my Main Pictures folder, which contains all the photos and catalogues to the external hard drive, and still be able to use those photos in Lightroom just like before?

What he means is inside LR, you'll have to rebind the location of the images.
After you move your image folders (and one assumes, the images) to your external drive, the next time you start up LR you will have a bunch of '?'s marking the images and folders.  Do not panic!
LR runs a database about your images, including the locations.  If you move your images in the OS, it won't tell LR that you've moved them.  So when you start up LR again, you have to tell it.
In the left menu in LR, you should see your drives and folders.  Right-click on the top most/left most folder, and select "find missing folder" and browse to your new location.  If you kept the same folder structure (i.e., you just dragged your top folder onto your new hard drive) then LR will reconnect all the folders "below" it in one swoop.
If you reorganized as well, then you'll have to reconnect them the hard way.  Next time, do folder reorganizations within LR, and that won't happen.
I move folders in the OS instead of LR, it's faster.  But I keep the same format, so I only have to reconnect the top level folder!
    Cheers!

  • Duplicated photos when importing pictures from an external hard drive

I've just bought a Macbook Air and am trying to import all of my photos from an external hard drive (I was previously using Windows 7).
I started off by importing them to iPhoto but lost all of my folders and found it hard to organise the pictures so then stopped doing that, deleted all the pictures and started again. My next attempt was to open 'Pictures' in the Finder window and I then dragged and dropped the folders of photos from my external drive into this window. The pictures all copied inside the folders but as well as the original photo it's also created another folder for each picture with the same name as the photo but ending in .files. Inside the file is two additional copies of each folder starting with the name 'vcm_s_'. One photo seems to be a high res version and the lower a low res version. See an example of this below:
Anyone have any idea why it's created these folders and how I stop it happening?
    Thank you!

    Thomas
Drag them to the iPhoto Window or use the File -> Import command.
    Regards

  • Transfer pictures from PC - External Hard Drive - MacBook = Duplicates?

    Hello.
I recently bought a MacBook Pro.
So I am NEW to the whole Apple World.
I was trying to transfer pictures from a Windows PC to the MacBook via external harddrive.
I opened iPhoto, File, Import to Library. Once there I went to Devices, picked the Device which has the Photo Album, picked the Album and clicked Import.
After the Import was done, I have one Album in iPhoto, plus each picture has a File folder in which it is to more times, one small and one regular size.
    Wy did that happen?
What can I do to have just the Album with the lets say 25 picture instead of 75 in iPhoto.
Like I said, I am NEW to the Mac world.
    Thank you.

I have no Idea why the screenshots came out so small but maybe you'll still see what I am talking about.
On here you can see, the first one is the actual picture, the second file folder (highlighted) has two more pictures of the actual picture in the folder.
So each picture has to "copies" of it.
The first file is the actual album with I think 8 pictures in it, iPhoto shows a total of 24.

  • Will a Mac automatically delete files/videos/pictures from an external hard drive?

I plugged in one of my external hard drives that contained documents, photos, and videos formatted from Windows.  When I plugged it into my MacBook none of my files were on the external hard drive and I didn't see any prompts asking if I wanted to reformat my hard drive so I'm not sure if it was automatically deleted.  Will a MacBook automatically delete files, pictures, videos from an external hard drive?

    No.
What format is the external drive?
