Major Printing bug in 10.4.8?

I have three computers networked on wifi and ethernet; 2 macs and a PC. Mac 1 is an iMac G4 flat panel (ethernet) running 10.4.8. Mac 2 is a G4 Powerbook (wifi) running 10.3.9, and the PC is XP (wifi).
I can print to my LaserJet2600n without a problem from the PC and from the Powerbook, however the iMac hangs in the print queue. First it says 'printing', then it stops the job and displays a '-' in the status area.
I've transferred files from the iMac to the Powerbook and they print fine to the same printer, so its not the files. The PC prints fine too. the iMac won't print either by ethernet or USB; the queue hangs.
I've looked at the error log in console and it shows and error message:
"PID (nnn) stopped with status 68!"
Anyone have any additional info on this problem? I see lots of people running into similar problems with a wide variety of printers.

Hello Les,
Like most of the other updates, 4.8 has played its part in stopping some users from printing. Personally I had no issue but a colleague had spooler errors after the update.
The first thing you should try is going to Disk Utility and running Repair Permissions. This is often all you need to do (it was all my colleague needed). If that doesn't work, delete the printer and run the Reset Printing System, located under the Printer Setup Utility menu. Then do a Repair Permissions again, restart and add the printer.
Sometimes you may find that if you download the 4.8 Combo update and run it, you may resolve the problems. But if the jobs still stop after that, check the Console log again and see what process it is. If you look back up the log from the error the process will be listed. Post that information back here and we'll try to work out what is going wrong...

ATTN APPLE: Serious Aperture Printing Bug for You to know about

I am just starting a new post for Apple to read if they do.
Aperture has a serious printing bug (or 10.4.9 does) whereby my HP 8750 Photosmart ICC Paper profiles are corrupted in some way. Not only do my prints look horrible as in there are just plain wrong color filters in place, but the on screen proofing looks just as bad. The same file and printing setup (and ICC profiles) print beautifully from PS or other apps, so it is definitely an Aperture problem. The Generic CKMY looks ok and if I have the printer do the color management (which shafts me for on screen proofing) it looks good too.

This is a serious bug that has been proven by more than just one user.
Please fix it!

FWIW, I have this problem too, but with an Epson 1800. I could print fine with the demo Aperture, but when I purchased it and entered my serial # I lost the ability to print. I can't change any of the preferences in the pulldowns in the print window. If I do change them they don't stick, even 'till the next time I pull them down. To print I have to have Aperture find the file in Finder, then I open it in ACR and PS and print from there (that works fine).

RGB printing bug still not fixed with 6.0.4

I guess I should not be surprised.
After three major releases of OSX and 20 updates and two major version and 8 updates of Indesign the monitor profile is still being introduced into the RGB printflow.
What the HELL does it take to get this bug fixed?
And, yes I know you can use "Print as Bitmap" or "Fast Graphic Process" in the Canon drivers to work around this problem.
Just maybe if IDCS5 uses the Cocoa print path that PS and LR now use it will be fixed then.

Anyone know if CS5 has fixed/addressed this problem?

Major CS5 bug where Smart Objets get thin horizontal lines??

Our prepress company has come across and proven out a rendering bug in Photoshop CS5 for Mac. It has caused us to consider totally avoiding CS5 until it's fixed. We are finding that CS5 is putting in several randomly generated thin horizontal lines about a pixel in height and varying widths, in cases where CS4 does not. Some files get these lines when converting live "smart objects" from one ICC colorspace to another.
I am providing a link to a specific file that shows proof of this bug. The example file has an embedded sRGB profile. To see the bug, set you working RGB colorpsace to AdobeRGB, and set your Policies to "Ask". During opening, USe the embedded profile. Then convert it to the AdobeRGB 1998 colorspace using File Convert, and do not rasterize the smart objects. You will see lines in the lower right hand corner after it's converted. Now go back and rasterize the smart object layers first, and these lines will not show up. And now do the same with CS4, without rasterizing the smart objects and you will not get lines. CS5 bug, CS4 no bug.
Let me know what you find on your end. Can any of the adobe employees document this for me and get it on the fix list?

I also head a Graphics/Prepress department at a medium format digital print shop, with next day service to the casino industry. My two cents worth, CS4 did not have this issue, CS 4 was a Cocoa app and CS5 a Carbon app, to me that is not a reason why a major software company like Adobe has multiple leading products (PS, ID, Ill) that cause these kind of problems. I can't count the times my print opp's have come back with a file showing lines. Now, I have told my designers that we should also be looking for the lines, now that we know about it.
I have printed fabric before and it is a pain to print one and see if there are lines in it, but which is more painful, printing one to test? Or trashing $3k worth of fabric? I know this works for one image printed x times, but multiple images printing a couple each to fulfill the job would be a huge ordeal. Adobe doesn't understand that yet. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, maybe we should all start calling tech support daily.
I saw a post suggesting rasterize pdf's in lower PS to work around, clearly an ad agency/freelance solution, not a production house solution. Opening and closing PS12 and PS11 somewhere around 15 to 20 times, per work station? We process somewhere around 40 minimum pieces of art a day, and sometimes double that. I could rant on this suggestion all day.
The bottom line is Adobe has no clue where it is coming from, they are more worried about the iPad/mobile industry right now.

When will Mozilla correct the printing bug with Firefox where only 1 page is printed?

There is a problem with FireFox whereby it only prints the FIRST PAGE of many sites.
Searching the web on this, it seems that this problem has been around for a long time and even what the cause is.
Apparently FireFox interprets the html text "overflow: hidden" as meaning to 'hide' all the rest of the page when printing.
Many users have reported this problem, but to date it has not been adressed.
Please correct this Mozilla (Or do I have to go back to using Safari?)

Duplex Printing Bug with HP OfficeJet Pro L7680

Well - Duplex printing works but the back page will only print with binding on the top, Binding on the side does not work! Minor bug but still a bug at least with the HP!!

A couple of points - assuming your using the HP OfficeJet Printer - I am assuming your connecting it via the Ethernet point which means it is communicating via IP. That being said - here is what I ran into.
When I first added the HP Printer - Leopard wanted to configure the printer via BONJOUR. I went ahead and let it do that - however printing was terrible!!!! I could send jobs to the printq, but the only way they would print was if I turned the printer on/off again - and the the would magically start printing. Then the printer would go "offline" and I was forced to do this same on/off routine.
So - I went back into add printers - and let the dialog box sit there for a little while and all of the sudden the list updated with an HP2A7180 - Kind - IP. I selected this printer and then told it to use the HP driver via the Print Using - drop down selector and my HP has been working fine since (minus the duplex).
Additionally it installed an configuration utility which allows me to monitor inks, settings and such.

Major Safari bug re: private browsing

Hi everyone, I'm encountering a major bug in Safari's private browsing mode. Basically, after you exit Safari, even if you close all previous tabs and use Settings to clear the cache, after you return again to Safari's private browsing mode it briefly flashes a screenshot/grab from random video content you viewed prior. There doesn't seem to be any way to clear this ... any suggestions? I just tried resetting all settings and that didn't work. Side question: does Safari's cache automatically clear after a certain point in time, i.e. 30 days after site visits and content gets stored? Many thanks in advance for all input!

I have ghost images which sometimes appear randomly when starting or returning to Safari. They last one or two seconds then go away. I can't really define a pattern but it happens quite frequently...
Tried clearing the cache and cookies but I didn't do anything as the problem still occurs.
Apparently this issue has been known for quite some time and everyone is waiting for it to be fixed.

Major JavaScript bug - form variables not submitted

I'm building a page where data is submitted to Paypal via a form and using Javascript to build Select statements on the fly. These appear as expected, but when the form is submitted none of the variables are POSTed through. The same page works perfectly in IE so there must be a major bug in Firefox's impementation of Javascript - this is a total show-stopper for the page I need to implement.
Go to the URL below and then check availability for type of room ANY. On the booking confirmation page if you leave the first select alone and hit the Pay Now button you will arrive at a debug page that dumps all the POST variables in a new window. Now go back and change the room type in the first select statement just above Pay Now - this updates the second select. Maybe even click it again to go back to the original setting. Now click Pay Now - nothing comes through from the select statement and some associated hidden vars.
Try it in IE and it works just like it should.

There seems to be an issue with FF and InnerHTML when a form is in a table. By moving the form tag around I was able to place it within the table definition so that it works in FF.

Strange CS5 printing bug (reds pumped)

Windows 7 64-bit, CS5 64-bit 12.04, Canon Pro9000 MkII.
Many/most files go back to CS4. I just started printing on CS5. I have a way to work around the bug, but maybe someone from Adobe will see this and duplicate and fix whatever the issue is. I can provide file(s) to duplicate.
I have noticed that CS5 remembers my printer driver settings application wide. I also notice that CS5 saves print settings in each PSD file. This may be contributing to the problem.
I open a file. 16-bit Prophoto PSD file.
I open the print dialog.
The dialog is defaulted to printer color management.
Open the printer settings. Check the settings. The driver settings are correct. Paper, quality, no color management. Click ok.
Now the dialog changes to photoshop manages colors and the profile selected is some generic canon bubble jet profile.
I select the correct profile. A red river paper profile in this case.
Print.
Bad print. The colors with some amount of red in them has the red channel pumped up. Many colors are okay.
Start with a new file (one not worked around).
Open file, change print settings. Close and save file. Open file. Print. Bad Print.
Now the work around.
Start with a new file (one not worked around).
Open file, change print settings. Close and save file. Close photoshop. Open photoshop. Open file. Print. Good Print.
So it seems that my file(s) have some sort of saved print info that is confusing CS5 that persists until the file is saved with current settings and CS5 is closed. I never printed before on this installation so I have no idea what print info could be in the file. I did have a different Canon printer previously installed on this machine but never printed or opened the print dialog in photoshop. Photoshop probably noticed the "default" installed printer even though I never used it.
It is rather annoying to open a file, change print info, close file and photoshop and then reopen for all my files I want to print just to get around this.

Have you gone into the "Print Settings" dialog and turned off color matching in the Epson portion of the settings?
Are you running the most recent version of the driver? There is a combination updater to version 7.0 available as the first result at:

PRINT BUG? ADOBE LIVECYCLE DESIGNER 8

Can any one help? I have produced a complex form with many text fields all these fields have the same field properties apart from the field name.
When text is entered in Adobe Reader 8 or Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 it saves to file as it should. The problem I have is that the form cannot be printed off fully. Only some of the text fields print, most remain blank.
This is not just for the text fields but I have also the same problem with some check boxes where some print off and others don't even though on screen all the data and checks can be viewed.
I can only assume this is a bug because it happens to some fields and not others in the same form.
Also I added a PRINT button from the standard menu and this does not appear to do anything when clicked - it just hangs. Anybody got any solutions? Thanks

I've found an answer to my own question.....it was a font issue. When all fields (including check boxes & radio buttons) are changed to Arial everything is fine! Plus don't forget that field properties should be changed to "visible".
The PRINT button issue is still a mystery!

Number of Prints Bug

Using CS5 to process and print photos at a live event I noticed that even though you can specify a number of prints in the print dialog it only ever prints one copy. I tried this several times using both an action that printed and opening a file from Bridge and printing. When I finally gave up and opened a file and just hit Ctrl-P twice to print two copies (leaving the print number at 3 since it was ignoring it anyway) I got six copies! Not only broken but unpredictable. At least CS5 doesn't crash when printing from an action or print negatives like CS4 did but this bug is going to be seriously painful as customers requesting multiple copies of a print occurs about 50% of the time at my events and as I run a complete processing macro, making additional copies means re-opening the file from bridge and printing. Sometimes group shots require 12 or more copies!

As mentioned in the other topics about this same issue: this is a problem with the Windows interface between the new Vista/Win7 printing APIs, and older drivers designed for the older printing APIs.
We are investigating the problem, but don't have an ETA on a fix because we need to work with Microsoft to figure out the whole problem.

CS4 printing bug with trifold?

I'm running InDesign CS4 on a Power PC G5 under Leopard 10.5.8, and using an
Epson Artisan 50 to print. I set up a letter sized, 3-panel brochure using
the feature that allows you to lock "pages" together to make a spread.
Envision three pages, 3.666 inches wide by 8.5 tall, grouped as a letter
sized spread. (Mine actually uses the Page Control plugin to shorten one
panel to allow for proper folding). When I try to print the document, all
that shows up in my print window is the first two panels. What the heck? I
have tried tinkering with it in a number of ways with no success. I wrote
DTP tools and sent them the file, they think it's a bug in InDesign CS4. I
did this in 2009 using CS3 and it worked perfectly, this is the first time
I've tried it in CS4. Does anyone have any clue what's happening here? I'd
be glad to post a couple of screenshots somewhere along with the file, but I
don't know where to post for free with files.

Don't know what I was doing yesterday, swear it wouldn't print correctly with this same file. Still shows only two panels in the print preview window, but the entire spread is printed on my Epson. See Michael's explanation below.

Make sure the three pages are grouped together in a single spread. In the Pages panel, uncheck
Allow Document Pages to Shuffle (first option in the section).
Check Print Spreads in the first dialog box.
As for the preview, ID only shows two pages in the proxy view.

10.5.3 major printing problems

Ok. i have checked a majority of the threads , went to the local apple store and nobody knows how to fix this.
I have an iMac g5 and a HP PSC 1510v printer. After upgrading to 10.5.3 i can no longer print via airport without the program I am using freezing up and crashing. I was just able to find one exception and that is if i use word and click the print button it bypasses the print setup and sends it straight to the printer and will print.
I have also tried connecting the printer via usb, and the computer could not find it. HP has nothing on their website to assist this problem and the guys at the apple store have never heard of this either. someone please help!

Have you tried resetting the printing system? This has helped me get all my printers working again. Be aware that it will clear out your printer list and you will have to add them again.
To reset the printing system:
-Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Print & Fax.
-Hold down the Control key as you click in the Printer list, and choose “Reset printing system” from the pop-up menu that appears.
Add the printers you use.

Major Graphic BUG???

FCP6/HDV appears to have the same Bug that FCP5 had for a while. Imported Photoshop files (any still format) show up looking like they are single fields instead of frames. In other words, every other scan line of pixels is not showing.
Playback Quality changes don't help. And the truly weird thing is that the same file looks perfectly fine in the Viewer, but not in Canvas.
Rendering doesn't help.
Native Photoshop, JPEG, TIFF--all look horrid. Files that played last week just fine in PS 5.x now look like a mistake.
FCP5 had this bug--similar, but not exactly the same behavior--when it was brand new, and it took Apple months to realize it and fix the mother. In FCP6 the major difference is that the still image looks horrible as soon as it is inserted in the timeline. FCP5 looked fine in the timeline in Canvas, but lost integrity when rendered or viewed running.
All effects, titles, matte painting FX, still overlays, still insertions are affected.
Please, somebody, tell me there's a switch somewhere that fixes this?

Dual 2.5GHz G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9)

While I'm not monitoring on an external monitor, the rendered file plays back with a perfectly clear background HD image and a flawed title overlay, so it's not the reviewing apparatus or conditions. Digital Cinema review shows the effect, too. Exported QT files show it, too.
What's significant about RT is that at High, the background is fine and the overlay still is corrupted, appearing to be 1/2 vertical resolution while maintaining full horizontal res. At Medium, being 2 x 2 pixels per detail, both clean background and overlay still look the same. At 50% scale Canvas viewing they look the same, too, which is to be expected. I'm not talking about field artifacts in motion. Those are easy to see on the computer monitor.
In the Viewer window, enlarged right next to the Canvas window, and both at 100%, pixel-direct viewing, the Canvas image is corrupt and the Viewer image of the same file, thrown into the View window from the timeline, looks 100% quality.
Since the Viewer window can portray the still bitmap image while looking perfect, and can portray moving footage perfectly, the issue seems to be in something that the Canvas window's handling routines are doing with the JPEG and .psd files. Since it does the same flaw with TIFF files, it seems logical to assume that it's not the incoming format, rather it's something in the way the timeline/Canvas handles bitmaps.
Are you seeing stills pixel perfect? Scale a 6MP digital image down to 1920 x 1080 and JPEG it, importing it into FCP6. Then view that in Viewer and Canvas at 100% scale after you drop it into the timeline.
One extra oddity; PS files import into the Browser as .psd format (1440 x 1080= exact resolution) self-contained sequences.
That's the way they show up normally--and must, if they had layers. If you double click on the source .psd file, opening it as a sequence, it shows up in its own timeline, and in the Canvas without the mangled look. It looks right.
But drop that source file into another timeline--the way you must to use it in an edit--and the corrupt appearance returns.
So we can add a new bit of mystery solving: It's possible for the Canvas to see a still image file with clarity--IF that file was imported as an existing sequence, the way .psd files do. But somehow still files of several formats can land in the timeline with this flaw. Making titles in Photoshop very ugly. Plus this: Do anything to the OK looking .psd image and render that--poof! The flawed appearance returns.
I'll bet Premiere doesn't make this mistake.
It's not a scaling artifact. It has the look of an image minus every other scan line, showing dramatic aliasing on shallow angle contours and loss of vertical resolution only.
Too much head scratching.

Capture Noise Print BUG??

I Just started using Soundbooth approximately 4 months ago since its the only audio software our business has currently. I must say first before I jump into this problem, that this program is completely Anemic when it comes to audio editing. I have read on this forum that it is intended to be a "Video and Flash Audio Quick editor" which is understandable given the spectrum of the most popular programs Adobe puts out. What is not understandable is when you purchase a "Master Collection" you receive a crumb (Soundbooth) instead of a cookie (Audigy).
Now to the issue.
I have no clue why this is currently being an issue for me. I am currently trying to use the noise reduction technique ( select noise > Capture Noise Print > Noise > have Use Caputred Noise Print checked ) This is simply not working 75% of the time which is very frustrating since 25% of my Voice Overs for my project are Cleaned of a minor background noise while the other 75% are not. Noise removal works just fine with the "use captured noise print" check box un-checked (aside from the robotic audio artifacts added) but for the majority of the time, when checked, the filter acts as if it is not even on. This continues even with adjustment of the 2 sliders.
Any insight to this asinine issue would be very appreciated. Sooner than later I am on a deadline.

I have the exact same problem... I do this..
1. Select 5 seconds of silence
2. Click Capture Noise Print
3. Select select a silent area
4. Click Noise..
5. Click "Preview".. whether On/Off buton is on/off, AND with Use Capture Noise Print selected, I hear no reduction. Even at 100%/3dB
If I uncheck the "Use Captured Noise Print" option, then noise is removed, but I get the robotic voice
CS5 latest updates.
Any ideas?

EDIT:: Interesting.. closing SB, then reopening seems to resolve the issue. Every so often it does the same thing, so I have to close/reopen SB.
